Arrowhead General Insurance Agency Reports Improved Time-To-Market and Higher Document Quality Using Document Sciences' xPression
CARLSBAD, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Document Sciences Corporation , a global market leader in providing customer communications management solutions, announced today that Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, one of the largest privately held general agencies in the US, has experienced faster time-to-market of new products by as much as 50% since implementing Document Sciences' award-winning xPression(R) software suite. xPression empowers organizations to produce highly personalized 1:1 customer communications for clients and agents for delivery via multiple distribution channels including print, email, and the Web. Arrowhead General reports that it has improved document quality, overall presentation and time-to-market since integrating xPression into its organization.
Operating in 35 states and offering quality products to 4,000+ independent producers, Arrowhead General's products include personal auto and home, workers compensation, construction, public risk, general liability, commercial auto, DIC and professional liability. As the company expanded through acquisition and organic growth, it used a range of technologies for policy administration and other back office functions, resulting in the need for Arrowhead General to standardize document production and have more control over its document composition and distribution operations.
"We continually push the envelope in all areas of technology utilization throughout the enterprise," states Stephen Boyd, Chief Information Officer, Arrowhead General. "We preferred a Java foundation for our environment, and xPression offered the Web-based architecture we needed to consolidate our output and improve the general look and feel of communications."
Arrowhead General notes that since implementing xPression, the time it takes to create new document applications or change current applications has been significantly reduced. With xPression, business users have taken greater ownership over application changes, minimizing IT's involvement in design and maintenance of document applications. Moving forward, Arrowhead General will continue to leverage xPression's integration capabilities by incorporating the technology into its sales portal, Arrowhead Exchange, as well as improving document quality by continually consolidating its document production onto xPression. "We expect to use xPression throughout all of our lines of business," said Boyd. "We are getting products to market faster by using xPression as our enterprise solution."
"Arrowhead General has taken full advantage of xPression's J2EE architecture and highly intuitive user interfaces to simplify document design and streamline processes for its agents," states Liza Smith, Vice President, Document Sciences. "By integrating xPression into the Arrowhead Exchange portal, Arrowhead General's agents will be able to improve the customer experience and increase revenue opportunities with highly personalized documents in real-time."
Stephen Boyd will be presenting on Arrowhead General's utilization of xPression during the Chief Information/Technology Officer Roundtable, taking place during the IASA 2007 Conference in the Minneapolis Convention Center, June 5, 2007.

Concord Publishing Achieves Significant Cost Savings While Gaining Security, Speed and Stability With Secure Computing's Sidewinder FirewallNetwork Gateway Security Solution Provides Major Operations and Productivity Advantages
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Secure Computing Corporation , a leading enterprise gateway security company, today announced that Concord Publishing is achieving considerable return on investment from its Sidewinder(R) network security appliance deployment, and is benefiting in terms of employee productivity and overall network operations. According to Michael St. Charles, the systems administrator at Concord Publishing, the company has experienced a 25-30% boost in network performance and is saving thousands of dollars over their previous network security approach.
"I can summarize the benefits of the Secure Computing(R) Sidewinder solution in three words -- security, speed and stability," said St. Charles. "Our network has become more stable and proportionately faster as we've been able to block most unwanted traffic at the network gateway. This has also led to a significant increase in available bandwidth."
Sidewinder is the world's most robust firewall/VPN and is the first and only firewall to deepen its defense-in-depth arsenal with a real-time global intelligence reputation system. Secure Computing's reputation system, TrustedSource(TM), provides Sidewinder with sender-based reputation scores that allow it to more effectively and proactively block threats while significantly improving network performance.
The Sidewinder security appliance provides next-generation unified threat management, advanced intrusion prevention, and protection of Internet-facing applications as well as employees' outbound Internet use. It blocks spam, viruses, spyware, phishing attacks and other malware through a process of deep content inspection down to the application layer.
"Sidewinder's flexibility and ease of use make it the best firewall I have seen. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to take control of their network security and improve overall performance," said St. Charles.
The Sidewinder network gateway appliance gives Concord Publishing's heterogeneous computing environment advanced bi-directional protection while eliminating the burden of having to regularly update ACL lists through a third-party provider. To St. Charles, this means reclaiming control of the company's network security without inhibiting the ability of employees to connect to the network remotely.
St. Charles explained: "Sidewinder allows us to control security and routing issues in-house with detailed reporting and logging, completely eliminating third-party ACL [Access Control List] updates. From a technical perspective, it is much faster to add a rule on Sidewinder than on the router or any of our previous firewalls."
"Using the Secure Computing solution, we've been able to save hard dollars simply by not having to pay an outside IT company to keep reconfiguring routers and firewalls. And the productivity gains are immeasurable, thanks to a much more stable network," he said.
Concord Publishing House is a multi-location, multi-media powerhouse publishing company that owns multiple newspapers and various other publications in the Midwest. With more than 200 employees working in multiple locations, including home offices, Concord Publishing must ensure that its employees have unrestricted access to many different sites, including some that under normal circumstances might be considered inappropriate to visit.

With an Active 2007 Hurricane Season Soon to Begin, Alabamians are Urged to Make Emergency Communications Plans
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- With another active hurricane season predicted this year Verizon Wireless, which made intensive preparations to maintain strong network coverage during the extraordinary storm seasons in years past, offers residents these tips to be safer during hurricanes and other times of crisis:
-- Keep wireless phone batteries fully charged - in case local power is
lost - well before warnings are issued.
-- Have additional charged batteries and car-charger adapters available
for back-up power.
-- Keep phones, batteries, chargers and other equipment in a dry,
accessible location.
-- Maintain a list of emergency phone numbers - police, fire, and rescue
agencies; power companies; insurance providers; family, friends and co-
workers; etc. - and program them into your phone.
-- Distribute wireless phone numbers to family members and friends.
-- Forward your home phone calls to your wireless number if you will be
away from your home or have to evacuate.
The company also urges the following actions once a storm is on the way:
-- Limit non-emergency calls to conserve battery power and free-up
wireless networks for emergency agencies and operations.
-- Send brief TXT messages rather than voice calls for the same reasons as
above.
-- Check weather and news reports available on many internet-connected and
other wireless phones applications when power is out.
"We've seen first hand the need for reliable wireless communication before, during and after an emergency situation, which is why we work year-round to ensure that our network is ready," said Jeff Mango, president - Alabama/Georgia region for Verizon Wireless. "Because of our continued investment and preparation of our network across the state, we're confident we'll again provide stand-out reliability if severe weather strikes Alabama this year."
The Verizon Wireless network is built for reliability in emergencies, with battery back up power at all facilities and for additional reliability, generators installed at all switching facilities, and many cell site locations. The company also owns a fleet of portable generators that can be deployed to provide emergency power during extended power outages to those cell sites without permanent generators.*
Additional Verizon Wireless preparation for the 2007 hurricane season includes:
-- Verizon Wireless has invested $35 billion in the last seven years - $5
billion on average every year since the company was formed and more
than $6 billion in 2006 - to increase the coverage and capacity of its
national network and to add new services. These improvements fortify
Verizon Wireless' network to ensure operations during circumstances
such as the hurricane season.
-- Verizon Wireless is fully prepared to again quickly set up Wireless
Emergency Communication Centers* (WECCs) to serve residents and rescue
agencies in the area(s) in the greatest need.
-- The company has developed and practiced a comprehensive emergency
response plan, including preparing emergency command centers in the
case of a storm or crisis.
-- Verizon Wireless has a new Communications Store on wheels* ready to
roll. The 35-foot trailer will allow Verizon Wireless to maintain
retail operations in areas when company stores are not able to open or
when retail services are needed in areas where natural disaster
strikes, enabling customers to purchase the wireless phones and
accessories they need.
Verizon Communications' national wireline network of central office switching systems has backup power in the form of batteries and backup generators that automatically keep the switch running when commercial electrical power is lost. In addition, Verizon monitors traffic on the network around the clock, and can quickly manage calling and data traffic around problem areas. Much of Verizon's national inter-city network contains redundant and diverse routing so that customers can still make calls if one part of the network is damaged.

Stereo Power Amplifier Chip from STMicroelectronics Creates Impressive 3D Audio Effects for Mobile Phone PlatformsCompact, self-contained amplifier for high-end portable audio products has power-efficient design and 1.2W/channel power output
GENEVA, June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STMicroelectronics , a world leader in mobile phone audio solutions, today announced a compact audio power amplifier chip - intended for mobile phones and for other portable audio products -- which creates 3D audio effects in the stereo speaker outputs to add impact and a surround-sound feel to MP3 and video files. The TS4997 can deliver 1.2-watts per channel of continuous average output power into 8-ohm loads, from a 5V supply - although it operates from supplies of as little as 2.7V -- while its high-efficiency design and ultra-low standby power will help extend battery life.
Mobile phones increasingly offer media features such as FM radio, MP3 player, video player and videophone. The TS4997 is an ideal solution that can enhance the performance of such functions, in addition to providing a high- quality stereo amplifier. It delivers an impressive stereo effect from a very small platform, and is also suitable for PDAs and for other portable audio devices.
ST's analog 3D technology, which is integrated in the TS4997, is the simplest in the market; no signal pre-processing is required, and it needs no external components to be added to the compact 4mm square package, minimizing space requirements and ensuring low production cost. A two-pin digital interface controls the 3D effect through independent gain adjustments for each audio channel, while additional left and right channel Standby mode pins allow the supply current to be cut to less than 10nA per channel.
The amplifier chip operates on a 2.7V to 5.5V power supply, providing excellent immunity to supply interference with 85dB PSRR. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is a high 106dB(A), and pop and click interference is suppressed. The device is part of ST's large portfolio of audio amplifiers designed for portable applications such as mobile phones and laptop PCs.
The TS4997 is available now in a QFN16 4x4mm package, with 0.65mm pad pitch, priced at $1.20 in quantities of 1,000 pieces.

Digirad Introduces nSPEED(SM) - The New Standard In Cardiac SPECT Reconstruction
POWAY, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Digirad Corporation demonstrates its commitment to clinical excellence and technological advancement by introducing nSPEED, an advanced three dimensional SPECT image reconstruction technique. This advanced algorithm provides the clinicians with significant image quality improvement over existing 2D reconstruction techniques by producing clearer and more accurate images to help improve physicians' interpretation confidence.
nSPEED models the depth-dependent point response function in an iterative reconstruction algorithm (OSEM), thus enabling depth-dependent resolution recovery and improving chamber contrast in cardiac SPECT images. Such improvement may further enable the reduction of acquisition time while maintaining image quality as compared to conventional reconstruction without depth-dependent resolution recovery, while adhering to ASNC imaging guidelines. With this product, Digirad is striving to obtain ASNC and other society acceptance in order to meet accreditation requirements.
Preliminary studies of nSPEED have resulted in equivalent diagnostic quality for stress and rest images with reliable function quantitation measurements from gated stress images and reliable quantitation of perfusion defect severity on stress and rest images.
"Our next step is to conduct multi-center study that will seek to demonstrate that nSPEED offers the opportunity to cut the acquisition time for cardiac SPECT studies in half while maintaining equivalent or better clinical results than those produced by 2D reconstruction techniques," said Mark Casner, President and CEO, Digirad. "We believe that with nSPEED, Digirad's Cardius(R) 3 XPO triple-head cameras will be able to perform a four minute rest study and a three minute stress study, increasing throughput and decreasing patient motion and patient imaging time."
About Digirad
Digirad Corporation provides diagnostic imaging products and services to physicians' offices, hospitals and other medical providers for use in cardiology, internal medicine, and general imaging applications. Digirad designed and commercialized the first solid-state nuclear gamma camera for the detection of cardiovascular disease and other medical conditions. ThyssenKrupp Steel Selects Sybase iAnywhere RFID Technology for Multi-Site Slab IdentificationLeading Steel Producer Relies on RFID Anywhere to Streamline Slab Logistics for More Than 100,000 Slabs Per Year
DUBLIN, Calif., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Sybase iAnywhere today announced that ThyssenKrupp Steel, the first steel producer in the world to use RFID technology, has selected RFID Anywhere(TM) for slab identification. The software infrastructure will be used in ThyssenKrupp Steel's new steel mill in the Bay of Sepetiba, Brazil, as well as at the European sea harbor and local harbor in Duisburg, Germany, to identify steel slabs automatically and to speed up the unloading process.
Working with consultants from Accenture, ThyssenKrupp Steel recently completed successful pilot trials with 1,000 slabs sent from Brazil and marked with RFID tags. Custom-made software applications based on RFID Anywhere were used to tag the slabs in Brazil and identify them at various points throughout their journey. At the harbor in Duisburg, slabs hanging on a crane were identified in a fully automated fashion while being unloaded.
The Brazilian steel mill is currently under construction and is scheduled to start production of five million metric tons of steel per year in 2009. Overall, a total of 250,000 slabs will be transported every year, 100,000 of which will be processed at ThyssenKrupp Steel's German plants -- a highly complex logistics process for which ThyssenKrupp Steel will rely on Sybase(R) iAnywhere(R) RFID technology.
"Using RFID to tag steel slabs enables us to read data over large distances and automatically transfer the information to our IT systems for further processing, all without the need for physical contact," said Gerhard Thiel, project manager, ThyssenKrupp Steel. "The solution developed with the help of Accenture and Sybase iAnywhere enables us to significantly shorten unloading times and thereby achieve cost savings."
Accenture recommended RFID Anywhere for ThyssenKrupp Steel's application based on its superior ability to manage a broad range of devices, including mobile and fixed RFID readers as well as RFID printers that are deployed at different locations around the world, and integrate these into existing IT systems. "We have selected RFID Anywhere for this challenging project, as this middleware is especially powerful and complete with respect to mobile devices. The results of the pilot project confirm our choice," said Lars Schittko, manager, Accenture.
"It's a testament to the strengths of RFID Anywhere that it has been selected by leading integrators such as Accenture for some of the world's most innovative RFID projects," said Martyn Mallick, director of RFID Technologies, Sybase iAnywhere. "Slab logistics is a completely new application area for RFID and demonstrates how RFID technology can create process efficiencies for innovative organizations like ThyssenKrupp Steel."

Cascade Microtech's WinCal XE Adds 16-term Calibration to Enhance RF Device Model Accuracy
BEAVERTON, Ore., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cascade Microtech today added an important new capability, a 16-term calibration technique, to its WinCal XE calibration software to help semiconductor labs reduce design cycles and time to market. Using WinCal XE for on-wafer measurement helps semiconductor manufacturers create more accurate high-frequency RF device models. With the explosion of wireless devices, semiconductor companies are under pressure to get their high-speed products to market faster than ever before. The 16-term calibration eliminates certain undesired measurement parasitic effects, thus enabling more accurate device models and shorter design cycle times.
The new WinCal XE 16-term calibration was implemented with the assistance of researchers from Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., who will present a technical paper demonstrating superior transistor model accuracy using the technique. The paper will be presented June 7, 2007 at the International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
WinCal XE's open architecture easily adopts 16-term calibration
WinCal XE's highly flexible design and open architecture allows new innovations and capabilities to be added quickly to the software. In cooperation with Auburn University, Cascade Microtech was able to add the new feature seamlessly, making it available to all customers who need advanced capability for high frequency measurements.
High frequency transistor measurement begins by calibrating the test system to the wafer probe tips using known test standards. Next, to eliminate undesired parasitic effects of transistor probing pads, wafer "dummy" pad structures are measured, de-embedding their loading and crosstalk effects on the "intrinsic" transistor. The accuracy of this approach is limited at extremely high frequencies due to necessary lumped element behavior assumptions that are no longer valid. A calibration-like approach with dedicated on-wafer standards for de-embedding makes no such assumptions and will overcome the high frequency limitations.
Past attempts to use traditional 12-term error model calibration for de-embedding have been incomplete and were not capable of characterizing the device-dependent coupling present in the pad structures. Only the complete 16-term error model can handle the complete behavior of device pads while providing improved transistor model parameter extraction. This approach is particularly valuable when a single-step calibration to the intrinsic transistor is desired and proper correction for device-dependent coupling is necessary. For more detailed information, see IMS session TH2D-04, June 7, 2007, "Singular Value Decomposition-Based Four-Port De-embedding and Single-Step Error Calibration for On-Chip Measurement," by X. Wei and G. Niu, Auburn University.
Other new capabilities for WinCal XE
WinCal XE calibration software is designed to reduce the complexity of making accurate wafer-level measurements at ever-higher frequencies and obtaining fast-turn data to reduce time to market. WinCal XE's open architecture allows new innovations and capabilities to be added quickly. It provides easy access to advanced features to refine RF measurements that are accurate, repeatable and reliable.
In addition to the new 16-term calibration, WinCal XE also includes new and recently added features including:
-- Unique hybrid calibrations, SOLT-SOLR and LRRM-SOLR, enable more
accurate multi-port measurements;
-- Advanced data post-processing of S-parameters with flexible viewing,
customizable data manipulation and simple creation and sharing of
display templates to increase lab productivity;
-- Management and automation of all calibration methods -- whether it is
SOLT, SOLR, multi-line TRL, LRM, LRRM or hybrid: and for 1-, 2-, 3-, or
4-ports -- enable shorter setup times;
-- System validation tools, including a calibration comparison and
advanced statistical reporting tools, to increase data accuracy;
-- For faster measurement verification, the VNA (vector network analyzer)
error set manager allows you to post-correct measured or stored data
and make fast and simple calibration comparisons or augmentations.

Euro Tech Holdings Company Limited Updates
HONG KONG, June 4 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Euro Tech Holdings Company Limited today reported that registration of the PACT Asia Pacific Ltd's ("PACT") manufacturing joint venture is underway and is expected to be completed by end of June 2007. The company registration task has taken far too long due to detailed scrutiny by the Chinese authorities and to a larger extent due to the mutual agreement to the withdrawal of one of the minority JV partners, namely Wuxi Tongtian Environmental Engineering Co., Ltd. ("TONT"). The withdrawal of TONT has made way for the inclusion of a new minority partner namely the Italian Company, Ecomacchine S.p.A. ("ECO"). The new share holdings of the JV are PACT will invest US$300,000 and have a 60% controlling interest of the joint venture, whereas ECO and PACT Engineering FZC ("PACTFZC") will each invest US$100,000 to own 20%.
About PACT
PACT is a majority owned subsidiary of Euro Tech.
About ECO
ECO, established in 1976 in Torino, Italy, has many clients in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. ECO is specialized in manufacturing of sludge handling and dewatering equipment.
About PACTFZC
PACTFZC, based in Dubai, is a Middle Eastern water treatment company.
As sludge dewatering and wastewater recycling are practical measures to lower cost of manufacturing and in the process reducing pollution and improving the environment. The new JV management has decided to concentrate on manufacturing of the following two products as standardized units. There will be less emphasis on custom-built equipment in order to reduce the high cost of engineering overheads. Besides cost reduction standardization substantially reduces technical risk.
Belt filter presses
The "Belt Filter Press" converts wet sludges to dry ones thus reducing disposal volume to a fraction of the original, hence substantial saving in disposal costs. The new JV will use the existing technology of ECO in manufacturing of Belt Filter Presses.
MBR (Membrane Biological Reactor)
The "MBR" uses an advanced membrane technology that treats biological wastes to a quality level which in many industries is good enough for reuse or low-cost disposal to sewers. PACT will produce state-of-the-art packaged sewage treatment plants. These packaged sewage plants have smaller area than that of the conventional packages and the treated effluent is treated to a level that it can be recycled or re-used.
T C Leung, Chairman and CEO of the Company, commented " We are excited about the new products and capability of the new JV in water treatment solution business. We think this new activity together with our recent acquisition of 20% stake in Zhejiang Tianlan Desulfurization and Dust-Removal Co. Ltd. ("BlueSky"), a company in air pollution solution business will definitely help combat the drop of income and revenue since early 2005 due to rapid drop of distribution business as a result of losing a number of exclusive agreements with our key suppliers. These suppliers now either sell directly into China market or open the market for other distributors to sell into China. The inevitable threat of falling income and revenue from distribution business has negative impact on the result of 2006 and this will continue and will only be reduced and under control when the contributions from our new acquisitions and activities are materialized and realized in coming months."

Dow Jones Adds Multimedia Content to Its Factiva ProductsPartnership with PodZinger Combines Advanced Technologies and World-Class Content for Revolutionary Video and Audio Search
NEW YORK, June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dow Jones & Company today announced a partnership with PodZinger, the only multimedia platform that allows users to find audio and video content using keyword searches, to integrate multimedia content into Factiva.com and Factiva iWorks, the leading news and business information solutions for the global corporate market. Beginning August 2007, Factiva customers can easily access highly relevant video and audio information including business news, CEO interviews, executive speeches, shareholders meetings, product reviews and other meaningful business content.
According to eMarketer, there were more than 7.2 billion video streams viewed by 123 million consumers in January 2007 alone, and AccuStream iMedia revealed that 30% growth in multimedia viewers is expected annually.
"Multimedia is proliferating exponentially and companies are paying attention," said Clare Hart, executive vice president of Dow Jones and president, Dow Jones Enterprise Media Group. "However, finding relevant and meaningful content can be time-consuming as most multimedia sites apply only limited metadata and offer rudimentary search capabilities for audio and video content, resulting in voluminous and often irrelevant results."
Hart added, "For companies that want a comprehensive view of their business, video and audio content is playing an increasingly significant role in their news monitoring and research activities. Our commitment to helping companies capture the power of emerging content and Web 2.0 technologies is reinforced in our partnership with PodZinger."
Factiva's multimedia offering leverages PodZinger's exclusive speech-to- text and natural language processing technologies, giving users highly relevant results around their search. It also uses the patented Factiva Intelligent Indexing (TM) and displays results in charts and graphs so that users can immediately extract value and understanding from their search. According to a 2006 study by PodZinger, viewers listen to or watch only 15% of an entire audio or video file. Dow Jones is combining the strengths of both Factiva and PodZinger to deliver a unique and powerful multimedia search experience that enables users to surface short, targeted clips around specific search terms where they can subsequently view only relevant sections or the entire episode.
Tom Wilde, CEO of PodZinger said, "As multimedia content becomes a larger share of online news and information, users need a way to pinpoint just what they want inside these video and audio files. PodZinger's unique search capability saves valuable time for Factiva customers by giving them the means to skim over extraneous content and quickly find and view highly relevant material."
The Factiva multimedia content offering includes:
-- Continuously updating content from more than 4,000 news and business
sources (or series) and more than 300,000 individual episodes
-- 90-day content archive from a business news and information collection
that includes The Wall Street Journal, NPR, CNN, BBC Radio and more
-- Language interfaces in English, Spanish, French, German and Russian
