Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) Achieves Major MilestoneFIRST AARGM DEVELOPMENTAL LIVE FIRING SUCCESSFULLY DEMONSTRATES PRECISION LONG RANGE TIME CRITICAL STRIKE CAPABILITY
MINNEAPOLIS, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems , the U.S. Navy team of PMA-242, the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division -- China Lake, and the Italian Air Force recently conducted the first Developmental Test (DT) firing of an Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) from an F/A-18 aircraft on the China Lake test ranges on 25 May 2007.
The test firing confirmed the effective integration of AARGM with the F/A-18 aircraft and the continued progress of fielding a long-range, precision strike capability against a wide array of time critical targets. The missile successfully achieved safe separation from the aircraft, navigated over an extended range to the designated target location, and guided to a direct hit. The successful flight test met all test objectives.
"This was the most significant test in the history of the AARGM program," said Dave Wise, Vice President and General Manager, ATK Advanced Weapons. "Not only did the AARGM missile score a direct hit, it demonstrated how ATK's design offers the war planner affordable, stand-off time sensitive strike capability."
"The entire international AARGM team is very pleased with the results of today's successful test," said CAPT Larry Egbert, the Department of Defense program manager for HARM and AARGM programs, "This event marks a major milestone in the AARGM SD&D program and demonstrates the positive results that a true international cooperative effort can yield. This successful test demonstrates the viability of an affordable Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (DEAD) capability for U.S., Italian, and potentially other Allied Air Forces through the upgrade of legacy AGM-88 weapons."
The recent test was the first Developmental Test firing of the AARGM System Development and Demonstration (SD&D) phase and continues the tradition of success established with the Quick Bolt Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (ACTD) and AARGM Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) phases of the program. During those tests, AARGM achieved seven successful test flights. The AARGM program plans a series of additional launches during the SD&D phase. ATK expects to begin Low Rate Initial Production in FY08. When fielded in FY09, it will be the only extended range tactical supersonic strike weapon in US and Italian inventory.
In addition to demonstrating long-range, supersonic, GPS precision strike capability and maturity; the test also demonstrated AARGM's compatibility with ATK's Common Munitions Built-in-test/Reprogramming Equipment (CMBRE), as well as the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS) and AWM-103. The test also demonstrated AARGM's compatibility with the F/A-18C/D 21X Software Configuration Set, and the successful integration of AARGM hardware and software with legacy AGM-88 High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) components.
AARGM is a supersonic, air-launched tactical missile that will be integrated on the F/A-18 C/D, F/A-18 E/F, EA-18G and Tornado IDS/ECR aircraft. The missile is also being designed to be compatible with the EA-6B and U.S. and Allied F-16 aircraft. Its advanced multi-sensor system, including a Millimeter Wave (MMW) terminal seeker, advanced digital Anti-Radiation Homing (ARH) receiver and a GPS/INS, is capable of rapidly engaging traditional and advanced enemy air defense targets as well as non-radar time-sensitive strike targets. The AARGM MMW seeker can operate in concert with the ARH to counter RF shutdown tactics or in a stand-alone mode to discriminate non-emitting time sensitive targets. AARGM is a network-enabled weapon that directly receives tactical intelligence information via an embedded data link and provides near real-time Weapon Impact Assessment (WIA) reports. AARGM, the successor to the U.S. Navy AGM-88 HARM system, is a U.S. and Italian international cooperative major acquisition program with the U.S. Navy as the executive agent.
ATK is a $3.8 billion advanced weapon and space systems company employing approximately 15,500 people in 21 states. News and information can be found on the Internet at http://www.atk.com/.
Certain information discussed in this press release constitutes forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Although ATK believes that the expectations reflected in such forward-looking statements are based on reasonable assumptions, it can give no assurance that its expectations will be achieved. Forward-looking information is subject to certain risks, trends and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those projected. WebMD Teams with CDC to Offer Online Continuing Medical Education Program on Breast Cancer DetectionCertified Course is Part of Joint Initiative to Inform Clinicians of Updated Evidence, Protocols, and Guidelines in the Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer
NEW YORK, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WebMD has teamed with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to educate clinicians on providing appropriate and timely care to women with early signs of breast cancer. In collaboration with Medscape from WebMD (http://www.medscape.com/), the leading provider of online medical information and education for physicians and other healthcare professionals, the CDC has developed an online continuing medical education (CME) program called "Follow Up of Abnormal Clinical and Imaging Findings of the Breast: Five Self-Study Modules for Primary Care Clinicians."
The program has been endorsed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), which will promote the activities among its membership base of more than 50,000 physicians and other healthcare providers.
The curriculum was developed to train physicians on the latest evidence, protocols and guidelines around detecting breast cancer. Available to registered Medscape members at http://www.medscape.com/editorial/public/breastcancer-cdc, the activity consists of five modules:
1. Breast Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology,
2. Health History and Clinical Breast Examination,
3. Workup of Abnormal Clinical Findings,
4. Follow up of Abnormal Imaging Findings: Biopsy Methods, and
5. Risk Management.
The format of the modules is designed to promote self-study and to be updated regularly in order to reflect new clinical research and advances in technology.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer to occur among women in the United States, and 13.2% of all U.S. women are expected to develop this malignancy in their lifetime.(1) The online CME activity developed by Medscape, the CDC, ACOG, and in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will help health professionals better understand different approaches to early breast cancer detection, as well as provide the opportunity to earn CME credits.
"The challenge for primary care physicians is to optimize detection and management of early breast cancer," said Eddie Reed, MD, director of CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. "In order to do this, physicians must stay current with an ever-growing body of clinical evidence, methods, and procedures. We believe that this CME program will provide critical help to physicians and enable them to keep on top of new and potentially life-saving information."
"The breast cancer modules review the latest knowledge and research on the presentation and management of abnormal findings of the breast, with particular emphasis on assessment and early diagnosis," said Ralph W. Hale, MD, Executive Vice President, ACOG. "This hands-on clinical information will be very valuable to ACOG's more than 50,000 members who provide health care to women."
"As the leader in online CME, Medscape is committed to helping medical professionals improve their skills and augment their knowledge in order to provide the best care for patients," said Steve Zatz, MD, EVP, Professional Services, WebMD. "We are very pleased to partner with the CDC and ACOG to offer such an important CME program that will improve the ability of physicians to detect and investigate early signs of breast cancer in their patients."

Microsoft Announces New Partnerships to Drive Economic Growth, Help Build Competitive AfricaNew collaborations with the government of Burkina Faso and UNIDO expected to bring benefits to African citizens.
OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Microsoft Corp. today announced two important new partnerships to help bring social and economic opportunities to people in Africa through the benefits of technology. The agreements were signed at the first subregional Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Best Practices Forum for West and Central Africa, an event created as part of a collaboration among Microsoft, Burkina Faso, the African Development Bank and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa to discuss ways to improve using information and communication technology for economic and social development across Africa.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)
"The world has entered an era in which access to the sources of information and knowledge has become a decisive factor in competitiveness and economic growth," said His Excellency Blaise Compaore, the president of Burkina Faso. "In the face of the digital divide that threatens to increase the marginalization of developing countries, we must step up the introduction of electronic communication infrastructures to seize the opportunities offered by new technologies. This forum is an occasion for African governments, their advisory institutions and ICT experts to share their experiences so that we can build an inclusive information society to serve the sustainable development of our countries."
The agreements announced at the forum include the extension of Microsoft's work with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to develop an environmentally responsible and localized computer refurbishment program that would benefit small and midsize businesses in Africa, and the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with Burkina Faso to provide ICT training for civil servants in Burkina Faso, as well as support for broader online government initiatives.
"Technology in all its forms has tremendous potential to connect communities and facilitate healthy, sustainable economic growth," said Dr. Cheick Diarra, Africa chairman for Microsoft. "The partnerships and progress made at this ICT Best Practices Forum are helping the expansion of the African IT sectors and ultimately increasing technological competitiveness for Africa. At Microsoft we have made a commitment through Unlimited Potential to work closely with governments to help local economies develop and compete in the global marketplace and provide technology that is relevant, accessible and affordable."
Microsoft(R) Unlimited Potential is the company's long-term commitment to use technology, training and partnerships to transform education, foster local innovation, and facilitate jobs and opportunities to sustain a continuous cycle of social and economic growth for the estimated 5 billion people who are not yet realizing the benefits of technology.
Computer Refurbishment Program Promotes Job Growth, Protects the Environment
Microsoft and UNIDO have been working together over the past year to promote innovative uses of ICTs that support entrepreneurship and help promote investment and create business opportunities for small and midsize businesses (SMBs) in Africa. At the forum, Microsoft and UNIDO announced they will expand their strategic partnership to create a sustainable and environmentally responsible local computer-refurbishment program for emerging markets. The program will develop a business model for refurbishment centers in Africa and will pilot the first computer-refurbishment center in Uganda. The program will help create local jobs, increase development of ICT skills, and greatly improve the availability of technology for people running SMBs in Uganda. To help ensure the proper disposal of computers once their usefulness has been exhausted, Microsoft and UNIDO will promote the creation of a regional electronic-waste recycling facility for East Africa. Ultimately, the goal is for this to result in a pan-Africa best practice.
"This is the third collaborative program in less than a year under our partnership with Microsoft and, like the others, it is designed to enable new avenues of economic and social empowerment through access to innovative technology," said Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, director general of UNIDO. "By providing computers, software and training to entrepreneurs, we aim to foster jobs and opportunities in small and midsize enterprises in rural Africa. We are committed to developing a model for refurbishment that is sustainable, both economically and environmentally."
Alliance Brings Investments in Education and Skills Training
Under the strategic partnership agreement signed with Burkina Faso, Microsoft will invest in ICT training for civil servants in Burkina Faso, as well as support broader online government initiatives to strengthen Burkina Faso's knowledge-driven economy and improve the use of ICT in the public administration, education and business community sectors in Burkina Faso.
This approach to economic development through the partnership of public and private organizations is reflected in the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals, agreed to by countries and leading development institutions around the world to promote a comprehensive and coordinated approach to tackling many problems in developing countries. Microsoft supports these goals by focusing investment and resources in Africa and by fostering public-private partnerships that develop ICT infrastructures and grow local industries.
About the ICT Best Practices Forum
The ICT Best Practices Forum in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, brings together African governments and organizations from different regions in Africa to demonstrate practical examples of successful solutions and how ICT can enable Africa to accelerate the penetration and application of technology on the continent and increase its competitiveness in global markets. Three subregional forums will be held over the course of a year: one in East Africa, one in Southern Africa, and one in West and Central Africa. This event in Burkina Faso is the first for West and Central Africa.
About Unlimited Potential

This requires new products that meet the needs of underserved communities; creative, new business approaches that make technology more relevant, accessible and affordable; and close collaboration between local governments, educational institutions and community organizations.

Microsoft Announces New Partnerships to Drive Economic Growth, Help Build Competitive Africa
OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso, June 7 /PRNewswire/ --
- New collaborations with the government of Burkina Faso and UNIDO
expected to bring benefits to African citizens.
Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq: MSFT) today announced two important new
partnerships to help bring social and economic opportunities to people in
Africa through the benefits of technology. The agreements were signed at the
first subregional Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Best
Practices Forum for West and Central Africa, an event created as part of a
collaboration among Microsoft, Burkina Faso, the African Development Bank and
the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa to discuss ways to improve
using information and communication technology for economic and social
development across Africa.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)
"The world has entered an era in which access to the sources of
information and knowledge has become a decisive factor in competitiveness and
economic growth," said His Excellency Blaise Compaore, the president of
Burkina Faso. "In the face of the digital divide that threatens to increase
the marginalisation of developing countries, we must step up the introduction
of electronic communication infrastructures to seize the opportunities
offered by new technologies. This forum is an occasion for African
governments, their advisory institutions and ICT experts to share their
experiences so that we can build an inclusive information society to serve
the sustainable development of our countries."
The agreements announced at the forum include the extension of
Microsoft's work with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO) to develop an environmentally responsible and localised computer
refurbishment programme that would benefit small and midsize businesses in
Africa, and the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with Burkina
Faso to provide ICT training for civil servants in Burkina Faso, as well as
support for broader online government initiatives.
"Technology in all its forms has tremendous potential to connect
communities and facilitate healthy, sustainable economic growth," said Dr
Cheick Diarra, Africa chairman for Microsoft. "The partnerships and progress
made at this ICT Best Practices Forum are helping the expansion of the
African IT sectors and ultimately increasing technological competitiveness
for Africa. At Microsoft we have made a commitment through Unlimited
Potential to work closely with governments to help local economies develop
and compete in the global marketplace and provide technology that is
relevant, accessible and affordable."
Microsoft(R) Unlimited Potential is the company's long-term commitment to
use technology, training and partnerships to transform education, foster
local innovation, and facilitate jobs and opportunities to sustain a
continuous cycle of social and economic growth for the estimated 5 billion
people who are not yet realising the benefits of technology.
Computer Refurbishment Programme Promotes Job Growth, Protects the
Environment
Microsoft and UNIDO have been working together over the past year to
promote innovative uses of ICTs that support entrepreneurship and help
promote investment and create business opportunities for small and midsize
businesses (SMBs) in Africa. At the forum, Microsoft and UNIDO announced they
will expand their strategic partnership to create a sustainable and
environmentally responsible local computer-refurbishment programme for
emerging markets. The programme will develop a business model for
refurbishment centres in Africa and will pilot the first
computer-refurbishment centre in Uganda. The programme will help create local
jobs, increase development of ICT skills, and greatly improve the
availability of technology for people running SMBs in Uganda. To help ensure
the proper disposal of computers once their usefulness has been exhausted,
Microsoft and UNIDO will promote the creation of a regional electronic-waste
recycling facility for East Africa. Ultimately, the goal is for this to
result in a pan-Africa best practice.
"This is the third collaborative programme in less than a year under our
partnership with Microsoft and, like the others, it is designed to enable new
avenues of economic and social empowerment through access to innovative
technology," said Dr Kandeh Yumkella, director general of UNIDO. "By
providing computers, software and training to entrepreneurs, we aim to foster
jobs and opportunities in small and midsize enterprises in rural Africa. We
are committed to developing a model for refurbishment that is sustainable,
both economically and environmentally."
Alliance Brings Investments in Education and Skills Training
Under the strategic partnership agreement signed with Burkina Faso,
Microsoft will invest in ICT training for civil servants in Burkina Faso, as
well as support broader online government initiatives to strengthen Burkina
Faso's knowledge-driven economy and improve the use of ICT in the public
administration, education and business community sectors in Burkina Faso.
This approach to economic development through the partnership of public
and private organisations is reflected in the United Nations' Millennium
Development Goals, agreed to by countries and leading development
institutions round the world to promote a comprehensive and coordinated
approach to tackling many problems in developing countries. Microsoft
supports these goals by focusing investment and resources in Africa and by
fostering public-private partnerships that develop ICT infrastructures and
grow local industries.
About the ICT Best Practices Forum
The ICT Best Practices Forum in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, brings
together African governments and organisations from different regions in
Africa to demonstrate practical examples of successful solutions and how ICT
can enable Africa to accelerate the penetration and application of technology
on the continent and increase its competitiveness in global markets. Three
subregional forums will be held over the course of a year: one in East
Africa, one in Southern Africa, and one in West and Central Africa. This
event in Burkina Faso is the first for West and Central Africa.
About Unlimited Potential
Microsoft Unlimited Potential expands and accelerates Microsoft's
commitment to facilitate sustained social and economic opportunity for the
more than 5 billion people living throughout the world who do not today
benefit from technology. This requires new products that meet the needs of
underserved communities; creative, new business approaches that make
technology more relevant, accessible and affordable; and close collaboration
between local governments, educational institutions and community
organisations.

Meridian Systems Launches Proliance Starter Pack to Accelerate ImplementationsKey components include Proliance Office Business Applications and preconfigured dashboards, metrics, alerts and best practices
FOLSOM, Calif., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Meridian Systems, a provider of enterprise project management software for optimizing capital projects, programs and facilities, announced today the Proliance(R) Starter Pack, a new set of Solution Accelerator technologies designed to improve end user productivity through composite applications, improve executive visibility into programs and projects, and reduce implementation timeframes and costs on new Proliance customer implementations.
Proliance software delivers Infrastructure Lifecycle Management (ILM) to building owners, real estate, construction organizations who plan, build and operate large complex capital project, programs and facilities. These organizations work with Meridian to implement Proliance in order to completely address their project management business objectives.
"Adopting solution accelerator technologies such as Proliance Office Business Applications as part of our Proliance implementation allows us to deliver a solution tailored to all organizational levels," said Raj Patel, CIO of Forest City Ratner Companies. "It was important to create a user interface with Microsoft Excel that securely connected to Proliance over the internet to allow some of our end users to create and retrieve financial project data. Now we can automate important processes involving expenditure approvals, while keeping all our capital project data in one enterprise system of record for management reporting and tracking, while still providing a familiar user interface with Excel for certain task oriented roles within the company."
The Solution Accelerator strategy is built on the foundation of Proliance's Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). These Solution Accelerators are designed to extend Proliance to the end users desktop with familiar applications like Excel as well as for senior management to have preconfigured dashboards, metrics, and alerts to provide visibility into the entire portfolio of projects. Meridian has uniquely combined its industry knowledge together with these technologies and packaged them in one easy to deploy Proliance Starter Pack.
"The goal behind launching the Starter Pack was to help our customers jump start the configuration process," said John Bodrozic, Meridian Systems president and cofounder. "By productizing our industry experience in these new technology products, we can get customers to a complete solution more quickly."
The Proliance Starter Pack provides value by delivering several preconfigured components that allow customers to instantly leverage the workflow, reporting and business intelligence capabilities of Proliance. Customers who purchase the Proliance Starter Pack will gain access to these Solution Accelerator offerings:
* Standard Dashboards, Metrics and Alerts: A number of dashboards and
performance metrics for instantly evaluating the performance of capital
projects and programs, designed for both executive management and
project managers.
* Proliance Office Business Applications: These are 'smart documents'
that leverage the familiar interface of Excel. The starter pack
includes a number of Excel documents that can be used by Proliance end
users locally on their desktop, and then to securely connect in real
time over the internet and to save data directly into the Proliance
database.
* Microsoft Word "Custom Print layouts": Provides users the ability to
print detailed documents like project contracts, change orders and
meeting minutes with layout and formatting directly into Microsoft
Word.
* Standard Project Management Configurations: A series of pre-defined
workflows and document templates with associated security roles and
corresponding look-ups. These pre-defined configurations leverage best
practices and industry knowledge from Meridian's experience on other
customer implementations.
* Integration Utilities: Utilities that allow new project teams to enter
vast amounts of initial project data, like project specific lookups.
Also includes a Schedule Integration utility that supports integrating
Proliance Scheduling data with other market-available scheduling
applications.
All of these components are enabled by the Proliance application platform, which is built on a SOA using Web services and XML technologies. This powerful and flexible architecture allows customers to implement Proliance based on their specific organizational needs. The Proliance Starter Pack is designed to jump start this configuration process, and to get Proliance customers more quickly down the road to a complete solution.
Meridian works with our customers to be their trusted advisor in construction project management technologies, and the Proliance Starter Pack allows Meridian to leverage its deep domain experience with all its customers. The Proliance Starter Pack also extends the benefits of a SOA technology platform to organizations that depend on successful capital projects and programs. Both corporate management and project teams benefit from improved corporate visibility, end user productivity, and greater control and audit-ability of workflow processes.

OnStar by GM and American Red Cross Partner to Provide Information to Those in Crisis Situations
DETROIT, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- With the 2007 hurricane season upon us, OnStar by GM and the American Red Cross announce a partnership to provide disaster relief information and assistance to OnStar subscribers in or near disaster-affected areas. During a hurricane or other crisis event, OnStar will be able to quickly access the Red Cross online crisis services information to direct OnStar subscribers to open shelters, feeding sites, and other disaster services. While the information is available to the public through the Red Cross, subscribers to OnStar will be able to get the information without placing an additional call.
During a crisis many people are displaced by evacuations to unfamiliar areas. Using GPS locations, OnStar subscribers can obtain local and relevant crisis information. This partnership will allow OnStar to route subscribers to the nearest shelter with available space.
Through the Red Cross Safe and Well Website -- accessible at http://www.redcross.org/ -- OnStar advisors can also help register subscribers so that their families and friends know that they are safe.
"The Red Cross is always looking for innovative ways to provide disaster information to more people in more places," said Rick Davis, Red Cross Director of Emergency Communications. "This partnership allows us to use the technological power and broad reach of OnStar to connect people who are affected by a disaster and who may be on the move to escape harm. We know this will be a useful and important tool for very large numbers of people as we enter the upcoming hurricane season."
"Our partnership with the American Red Cross allows us to offer more up- to-date crisis response information to our subscribers," said Scott Kubicki, Vice President, OnStar Subscriber Services. "Through OnStar Crisis Assist, we can help our subscribers navigate out of harm's way or summon help during an emergency. Before, during and after a disaster, any information that helps families manage crises quickly and safely, when every second counts, is information we want to provide through OnStar."
When severe weather, natural disaster, or other crisis events affect OnStar subscribers, OnStar Crisis Assist will allow subscribers in a designated crisis area to take advantage of all OnStar services regardless of the service plans they have at no additional charge. Subscribers who have in- vehicle, hands-free calling service can use it as an alternative means of staying connected if they are without power in their homes or cannot recharge their cell phone batteries.
OnStar's Crisis Assist capabilities also include specially trained Crisis Advisors, who will work to:
* Contact emergency responders if needed and direct them to the
subscriber's location, using OnStar's embedded cellular calling system
and Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite technology, which
pinpoint a subscriber's location when he or she contacts an advisor.
* Provide real time crisis information and centralized assistance for
food, water, and hotel accommodations along with information on road
closures, power outages, and weather updates.
* Share information on available shelters from the American Red Cross
database and guide subscribers to these locations.
* Connect subscribers to loved ones, family and friends.
* List subscribers on the American Red Cross Safe and Well website.
* Inform appropriate public safety officials when a subscriber contacts
OnStar about someone in need of emergency assistance.
The Red Cross began the Safe and Well site to serve as a way for those affected by a disaster to let loved ones know they are safe during an emergency. They can select from a list of standard messages, such as "I am currently at a shelter" or "Will make phone calls when able," to communicate with loved ones, letting them know of their well-being. Concerned family and friends can search the list of those who have registered themselves as "safe and well." The results of a successful search will display a loved one's first name, last name, an "As of Date," and the selected message.
Preparation is the best defense in any kind of crisis. The American Red Cross and OnStar encourage subscribers to follow the U.S. government's recommendations for preparing for crisis situations. For more information on preparedness, visit http://www.redcross.org/. For more information on OnStar Crisis Assist, visit http://www.onstar.com/.

CCID Consulting Analyst Says that Backlighting in Mobile Phones Has Encountered Difficulties in China
BEIJING, June 7 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: HK08235), says the revolutionary application of backlighting in mobile phones has encountered difficulties in China.
With the rise of mobile phone production centers in China, the transfer of the world mobile phone industry to the Chinese inland, the further improved TD industrial chain and the imminent commercialization of 3G in China, mobile phone production by local registered companies and joint ventures added up to 442,275,000 in 2006. Over 95% of those phones had full-color screens. In the meantime, full-color mobile phones moved towards bigger screens and higher resolutions.
Pushed by the rapid increase of mobile phone production, LED backlight market demands reached 1.62 billion Yuan, an increase of 36.8% over 2005. Due to the increasingly larger percentage of full-color mobile phones, white-light LEDs became the absolute hero of the backlight market. However, the backlight market has had some difficulties:
Fig. 1 Mobile Phone LED Demands and Growth in China in 2002-2006
http://www.ccidconsulting.com/upload/11560.jpg
Source: CCID Consulting, Feb., 2007
Few Changes in Brand Structure.
Manufacturers of LED backlighting have been increasing in China in the past couple of years. Though increases of secondary manufacturers tend to scratch some market shares, the relatively high-speed growth of mobile phone production ensures a relatively large demand for LED backlighting. As a result, new secondary manufacturers have not had much influence on the production of front-line backlight manufacturers. The LED backlight market in China is still dominated by Shianyih Electronics, Waichi Electronics, Pepnice Opto- Electronics and so on. With more entrants into the backlight market, greater pressure for lower prices has led to price wars, which will have a definite impact on the profitability of the companies.
Replacement products hardly challenge the dominant LED. As OLED features advantages such as self-lighting, with no need for backlighting, high contrast, thinness, wide angels, fast reaction speeds, a wider temperature scope, simple structures and efficient procedures, it is considered the most promising monitor following the LCD. And OLED mobile phone screens have always been regarded as the most significant application of OLED products, which may influence the development of LED backlight markets.
However, OLED did not perform well on the mobile phone screen market recently. This is mainly because small production caused high product costs, which could only be reduced through larger scales. At the same time, TFT-LCD manufacturers modified assembly lines to enhance production of medium- and small-sized products, resulting in rapid price reduction of TFT-LCD products. Currently, LCD screens are still the predominant mobile phone screen.
On the other hand, although white-light OLED panels serving as backlighting are well-received by manufacturers, there is no mature commercial production due to immature technology.
OLED's poor performance in mobile phone screens and the unreadiness of white-light OLED panel backlighting for official commercial applications makes LED the unshakable hero of the mobile phone backlight market.

China's Insurance E-Commerce Needs Planning and Coordination
BEIJING, June 7 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- E-commerce in China continued to grow at a high speed in 2006 and penetrate industries. As a key application, insurance e-commerce is becoming a new growth point for the insurance industry. CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (stock code: HK08235), believes that under good external conditions the insurance industry still needs to strengthen planning and coordination in order to develop.
Currently, insurance e-commerce in China has the following features:
The market environment is further improving.
In terms of policies, the "State Council Suggestions on the Reform and Development of the Insurance Industry," "Guidelines for the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Insurance Industry in China," and "Key IT Application Project Plans in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for the Insurance Industry in China" were released. Promoting e-commerce became a key objective for developing the insurance industry during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Technologically speaking, regulations such as the Law on Electronic Signatures, Guidelines on Electronic Payments and Administration of Certification of Electronic Services went into effect. In this way, issues such as identification, electronic policy and online payment, that had previously restricted e-commerce, were improved, providing positive technical environments for the development of insurance e-commerce. In terms of market demands, with the push of insurance companies and insurance agents, customers had increased awareness of online consulting and online purchases. Online revenue from premiums increased to nearly 2% of the overall premium revenue in 2006, compared with less than 1% prior to 2005.
Insurance companies' own portals are the major application models of insurance e-commerce in China.
Since the end of the 20th century, China's insurance e-commerce has undergone the pressure from insurance companies' building websites and third- party agents opening websites. However, up until now, the major application model remained the insurance companies' own portals. All mainstream insurance companies have built their own portals and conducted online promotion, online consulting, online sales, online payment and online customer service, and to a greater or less extent have created e-commerce platforms. Among them, 95519 of China Life, Taikang Online of Taikang Life and PA18 of Ping An Insurance are outstanding in fame and practicality.
Due to immature market demands and the limited supply of products, portals built by third-party insurance agents in the early craze of insurance e- commerce have mostly converted to specialized insurance information platforms or insurance e-commerce software and solutions providers, promoting the development of this segment from a different perspective.
The e-commerce department of insurance companies lack autonomy.
As it stands, all major insurance companies have their own portals, whose functions have developed from monotonous product displays and brand promotion to collecting customer intentions, online purchases and online consulting. Unfortunately, it is common for most e-commerce departments in insurance companies to take on additional sales responsibilities and to lack autonomy. As a result, product development, sales models, and service models of the companies have not been adjusted in accordance with the features of e-commerce, leading to low efficiency.
The intra-information system of insurance companies does not connect well with e-commerce, hindering the latter's development.
E-commerce, which is essential in allowing insurance companies to explore new markets in the Internet era, enables the companies to provide 24/7 service to the customers. However, only if the company's core business system is organically integrated with the Internet portal, can the company truly reduce operation and sales costs and raise efficiency. Hence the e-commerce levels of insurance companies are closely related to the internal information management and resource coordination of the companies. At present, difficult connections between e-commerce portals and the internal information system of the companies are becoming more and more obvious with the further development of e-commerce. System building in some companies severely restricted the development of e-commerce. Although e-commerce portals collected customer intentions and even purchase information, back-stage service systems cannot process this information quickly and representatives still have to reply through phone calls and even personal visits, greatly lowering the efficiency of e-commerce. Lack of efficient and continuous processing procedures, and failure to react rapidly to customer's initial consulting queries, harm the image of the company to a very large extent.
Despite these problems and difficulties, at a time when better policies are being advocated, and technological and market demands are high, development of the insurance industry should be properly coordinated and planned, as CCID Consulting believes. First, set specific goals for each phase of online promotion, online consulting, online purchasing, electronic policy and electronic payment, in that order. Second, define the responsibilities of e-commerce departments, improve work procedures, coordinate corporate resources for e-commerce and do not treat e-commerce departments as a mere executive department of sales. Third, integrate e-commerce portals effectively with the company's internal information system. Last but not least, create a scientific evaluation system of e-commerce to comprehensively assess the performance of e-commerce, and at the same time, focus on sales goals, cost- saving goals, efficiency improvement goals and customer experience goals.

ISWI Announces Record Monthly Wagering VolumeTURNOVER IN MAY TOPS $2M
WEST PATERSON, N.J., June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Interactive Systems Worldwide, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ISWI.OB) today announced record monthly wagering volume, for the third straight month, from the operation of its SportXction(R) system in the UK.
The system operated by Global Interactive Gaming Ltd. ("GIG"), the Company's wholly owned UK subsidiary, recorded over $2.0 million in turnover (i.e. the total amount wagered) in May. This total represents the largest monthly turnover ever recorded by GIG. The Company is very encouraged by this growth trend, as the turnover for April and March also showed increases over the preceding months' volume. In addition, the system's "hold" (that is, the turnover less the money returned to the players as winnings) was over $80,000.
The Company's revenue from its agreements under which it operates its software has historically been based upon several factors: the turnover, the hold and the contractual revenue (hold) split with its partners. However, on May 30, 2007 the Company announced that it had reached informal agreement with several of its larger partners to restructure its agreements with them, in order for the Company to receive fixed or minimum monthly payments on a temporary basis. Based on these informal agreements, the Company expects to invoice approximately $60,000 for May, including license fees due from its agreement with Hipodromo de Agua Caliente S.A. de C.V.
Bernard Albanese, the Company's CEO, stated, "We are very pleased with the continued growth of the system's wagering turnover, despite the ending of English Premier League season in mid-May. In May, tennis provided the largest wagering turnover. We are looking forward to the continued strong showing in tennis throughout the summer, while awaiting the resumption of the European football (soccer) season in August. The growth shown in the system's use over the last several months validates our optimism regarding the future growth of the service being provided."
About Interactive Systems Worldwide, Inc.
Interactive Systems Worldwide, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ISWI.OB) has designed, developed and patented a proprietary software system, the SportXction System, which enables play-by-play wagering during the course of live sporting events. ISWI, through its wholly owned subsidiary Global Interactive Gaming Ltd. (GIG), operates the SportXction(R) System in the U.K., in conjunction with established media and traditional wagering partners. The system can accept wagers from the Internet, handheld wireless devices, interactive televisions, and standalone kiosks. The system can be used for any live broadcast event.
FORWARD-LOOKING STATEMENTS: The forward-looking statements contained herein are subject to certain risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those reflected in the forward-looking statements, including, but not limited to: whether the Company's informal agreements with certain partners for fixed or minimum payments will result in binding agreements, whether the hold percentage will be maintained in the future at current levels and whether the growth in wagering volume will continue.
