NVIDIA and CGSociety Announce NVArt Award WinnersDigital Art Challenge Celebrates the Intersection of Art and Technology
SANTA CLARA, Calif., and ADELAIDE, Australia, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- NVIDIA and CGSociety today announced the winners of the NVArt digital art challenge, the first in a series of worldwide competitions to be held during 2008.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20020613/NVDALOGO)
The theme of the inaugural challenge was "Amazing Creations." Artists were invited to submit computer-generated imagery that could exist only in a virtual, imaginary world. The winning art was unveiled at a reception at the San Jose Museum of Art on February 1. The event was keynoted by NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and featured remarks from digital arts gurus Lorne Lanning of Oddworld Inhabitants and Mark Snoswell of CGSociety.
"The digital arts community and NVIDIA are natural partners. As NVIDIA graphics technology becomes increasingly programmable, it provides artists with an infinite palette for expressing their ideas," commented Mr. Huang. "NVIDIA has always been inspired by the incredible creativity of 3D artists and content creators. NVArt is our way of celebrating and recognizing their creativity."
"Throughout the ages, artists have been dreamers and visionaries, creating truly amazing and inspiring works of art," added Mark Snoswell, president of CGSociety, a global organization for digital artists. "But they have been limited by the physical media in which they work. The NVArt competition embodies the attraction of digital art: the opportunity to create compelling images free from physical limitations."
The winning art will be displayed at the San Jose Museum of Art through February 8. The art is available for viewing online at http://events.cgsociety.org/NVArt/01/winners.php.

Next Inning Technology Updates Outlooks for SiRF Technology, Texas Instruments, Microchip Technology, and SanDisk
PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Next Inning Technology Research (http://www.nextinning.com/), a subscription service focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has updated outlooks for SiRF Technology , Texas Instruments , Microchip Technology , and SanDisk .
Earnings season is when Editor Paul McWilliams is at his best. In his weekly earnings previews, McWilliams advised subscribers to buy Flextronics, Harmonic, and NetLogic, all of which moved higher after announcing stellar quarters. His preview for the week of February 4th will be available by signing up for a free trial:
https://www.nextinning.com/subscribe/index.php?refer=prn624
In his earnings preview, Editor Paul McWilliams wrote: "With its purchase of Centrality, SiRF made its only viable play -- offensive or defensive. For SiRF it was either enter the 'motherchip market' or watch as a competing motherchip company like Broadcom eats its GPS lunch. Well, maybe not quite that dramatic -- it would have probably been a slow and painful downward spiral.."
McWilliams also looks at these topics:
-- What critical question does McWilliams expect analysts on the SiRF conference call will pose, and what sort of answer does he think will be required by SiRF executives to avoid a sell-off?
-- Why might Texas Instruments be particularly well positioned to benefit from prevailing trends in the semiconductor industry in 2008?
-- Based on his forecast for the markets moving to NAND Flash during the next two years, does McWilliams believe it's time to buy SanDisk to leverage these changes?
-- Microchip is up 10% since McWilliams called it a "buy" in mid-January. Is he still bullish after recent gains?
Founded in September 2002, Next Inning's model portfolio has returned 273% since its inception versus 85% for the Nasdaq.

REDMOND, Washington, February 4 /PRNewswire/ --
en actions ;
rapport au cours actuel de l'action ;
31 janvier 2008
Conseil d'administration
Yahoo! Inc.
701 First Avenue
Sunnyvale, CA 94089
Meilleures salutations,
/s/ Steven A. Ballmer

OWINGS MILLS, Md., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Universal Security Instruments, Inc. today filed a Form 8-K regarding International Conduits, Ltd. ("Icon"), an Ontario-based manufacturer and distributor of steel electrical conduit majority owned by Universal since October 2006.
Icon received notice on January 29, 2008 from CIT Financial Ltd., Icon's principal and secured lender, that Icon is in default of its credit agreement dated June 22, 2007 and demanding immediate payment of all of Icon's obligations.
The indebtedness owed by Icon to CIT Canada is CN$4,998,094, and payment must be made within 10 days from the date of the CIT Notice. If Icon fails to pay the demanded amount in a timely manner, CIT Canada may commence legal proceedings against Icon and may take other steps to protect its rights, including the appointment of a receiver. Icon is in discussions with CIT Canada with respect to the payment of Icon's obligations and is taking steps to reduce its operating expenses and maximize the return on its assets to enhance its ability to pay its obligations to CIT Canada. Universal cannot determine at this time what steps CIT Canada will take to protect its rights.
At this time, Universal is not able to determine how much, if any, of Icon's obligations under the CIT Canada Credit Agreement will be required to be paid by Universal under the terms of the CIT Guaranty or the terms of any such payment. In connection with the preparation of Universal's financial statements required to be included in its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2007, Universal undertook an evaluation of the goodwill from its acquisition of Icon to determine whether the value of the goodwill has been impaired in accordance with FAS No. 142, "Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets". Based on such evaluation, Universal determined that the value of the goodwill from its acquisition of Icon was impaired and will take a charge of US$1,926,696 for such goodwill as of December 31, 2007. Universal is not able to determine at this time any additional amounts which it will be required to take as a charge for impairment of its interest in Icon under generally accepted accounting principles applicable to Universal.

MedeFile Applauds U.S. Presidential Hopefuls for Advocating Widespread Adoption of Electronic Medical RecordsCompany Founder, Chairman and CEO Also Points Out Fundamental Flaw That May Undermine Proposed Plans to Achieve this Objective
CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MedeFile International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: MDFI) , a company specializing in portable electronic medical records management solutions, today formally applauded U.S. Presidential hopefuls for their nearly unanimous support for the adoption of electronic medical records (EMR) to aid in reforming the U.S. healthcare system.
"For the last decade, MedeFile has been working diligently to be a part of the solution to our national healthcare crisis, a crisis driven in part by runaway costs embedded in all levels of the U.S. healthcare delivery system," stated Milton Hauser, founder, Chairman and CEO of MedeFile International. "It comes as no surprise that healthcare reform is once again a central platform issue in yet another U.S. Presidential election. However, it is very exciting and gratifying to see that the prevailing slate of candidates for both parties have acknowledged the potentially profound role that EMR solutions can play in achieving significant cost savings across the care continuum while also materially improving the quality of patient care.
"During the recent nationally televised Democratic Debate in California between Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Clinton spoke of inaugurating her proposed reforms for taxes and healthcare with electronic medical records, specifically citing the 2005 study by Rand Corporation which determined that 'America's healthcare system could save more than $81 billion annually and improve the quality of care if it were to adopt computerized medical records.' The study, considered to be the most detailed analysis ever conducted of the potential benefits of electronic medical records, also noted that if IT impacted the nation's healthcare system as much as it impacted the wholesale and retail industry -- savings could be as high as $346 billion annually -- over 15 percent of health care spending," said Hauser.
Continuing, he noted, "According to Obama's web site, if elected, he will invest $10 billion a year over the next five years to move the U.S. health care system to broad adoption of standards-based electronic health information systems, including electronic health records, and will phase in requirements for full implementation of health IT. Republican candidate John McCain emphasizes the need to promote rapid deployment of 21st century information systems, and opponent Mitt Romney agrees, proposing to use federal incentives to foster more widespread adoption of medical records technology.
"Although this vigorous vocal support for EMR management from our nation's leaders is particularly validating for MedeFile, we maintain a belief that there is a fundamental flaw in these candidates' plans to achieve system-wide adoption of the technology. The current Bush Administration also recognized the value in computerizing medical records, mandating that a standards-based electronic medical record system be in place nationwide by 2011. However, medical practitioners, hospitals and other healthcare providers have been slow to embrace EMR solutions, and are much less likely to rush to comply with government mandates -- not in our opinion because of the complexity and costs involved with deploying these systems, but rather because of the lost income that will result from their deployment.
"It is MedeFile's contention and core business tenet that only by empowering patients with the responsibility of managing their own lifetime of health and medical records can positive change be achieved. Until now, medical records have been largely inaccessible to the public. Many people still consider medical records to be the property of the doctors and hospitals that produce them. In fact, these providers largely control that information, but only as custodians -- the information is the property of the patient, and should be accessible on demand," Hauser stated.
"In the past, patients may have been treated by a generalist over an extended period of time. Since care was centralized, the need for extended recordkeeping and record management was diminished. But, that is no longer true," contends Hauser. "Presently, care is distributed among many diverse practitioners for very small segments of time, providing little to no patient- doctor continuity, and establishing the need for patients to control, carry and deliver their actual medical information about them in order to assure the best possible care.
"Several companies in the private sector have begun offering Personal Health Record (PHR) systems that allow patients to store their own information by filling out extended medical questionnaires, and then offering access to the information provided back to the patient on demand. Corporations such as Intel Corp., Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Pitney Bowes have announced that they will finance the development of a web-based PHR for their collective 2.5 million employees, dependents and retirees. While this approach may constitute a good beginning, and is similar in concept to MedeFile's basic Digital Health Profile (DHP), it is no substitute for the availability of the actual medical records as authored by the patient's healthcare providers. Patient-provided information does not approach the veracity, completeness or precision necessary to be utilized by healthcare providers directly, which is why MedeFile has chosen to develop a unique patient-centric solution that has carefully considered and squarely addresses the informational needs of the full continuum of healthcare."
Concluding, Hauser stated, "Again, we applaud each Presidential contender for the attention they are collectively focusing on this important issue and for recognizing the value and promise of electronic medical record management solutions. MedeFile looks forward to playing a meaningful role in teaming with our nation's government, business leaders, medical industry constituents and citizens to help revolutionize the U.S. healthcare system and optimize patient care."

Verizon Wireless Invests More Than $192 Million in 2007 to Enhance Philadelphia Region NetworkNew Cell Sites, Equipment Upgrades, High-Speed Wireless Network Expansion and Upgraded Network Facility Improve System
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today it has invested more than $190 million in 2007 to enhance its digital network in the Philadelphia region. The enhancements included building new -- and upgrading existing -- cell sites, increasing coverage area, expanding its high-speed wireless broadband network to many new markets. The company also expanded its Wilmington, Del., Mobile Telephone Switching Office, a facility housing the electronics that run much of Verizon Wireless' network in Delaware, southern New Jersey and portions of Philadelphia.
"Our mission in 2008 is to continue building our network so that our customers can depend on us every time they pick up their wireless phones," said Christine Baron, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia region.
Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1 billion into its network across central and northeastern Pennsylvania, Greater Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and Delaware, including the following upgrades made in 2007:
-- 101 new cell sites were activated across the region to improve network
coverage and capacity, enabling more customers to use their phones
concurrently to make calls; send and receive email and TXT, PIX and
FLIX messages; download music, games and ringtones; and view high-
quality videos while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped
calls.
-- Equipment on 928 existing cell sites throughout the region was
upgraded, which further improved network capacity.
-- 48 permanent backup generators were installed or upgraded at cell sites
to ensure network functionality during times of crisis.
-- The company expanded its high-speed wireless broadband network to 142
cell sites. With the upgraded network, Verizon Wireless customers are
enjoying two key services:
-- BroadbandAccess, the enhanced high-speed wireless service that
equips Verizon Wireless' business customers with a truly untethered
mobile office experience, enabling them to wirelessly access their
calendars, the Internet, E-mail and critical business information
residing behind their companies' firewalls; and
-- V CAST, a consumer-oriented multimedia service that gives customers
access to the most comprehensive selection of downloadable music,
high-quality videos and the coolest 3-D games found anywhere.
-- A $30 million expansion and upgrade was completed at the company's
Mobile Telephone Switching Offices (MTSO) in Wilmington, Del., further
enhancing network reliability for customers in Delaware, southern New
Jersey and Pennsylvania. The expansion including doubling the
facility's size and equipment upgrades that enable greater call-
processing capabilities to accommodate increasing customer demand.

Wayland and Norfolk are among 63 Massachusetts communities (see list below) where the company's new television service is being offered -- the only TV service delivered over the nation's most advanced all-fiber network directly connecting to millions of individual homes and businesses. FiOS TV is now available to consumers in more than 400,000 Massachusetts households.
Verizon is currently negotiating with several other communities in Massachusetts to obtain additional franchises. For more information on the Verizon franchise process in the state, visit http://www.verizon.com/ma.

Customers in Wayland and Norfolk who liked what FiOS did for their Internet connection will love what it does for their TV. We've harnessed the speed and capacity of fiber-based broadband with the power of broadcast to create a revolutionary, new entertainment experience."

channels.
* A total of 30 high-definition channels with extraordinary clarity and
theater-quality sound.

* Set-top boxes ranging from a standard-definition box for $4.99 per

The recorder is bundled with Media Manager, a new feature that lets
customers easily access photos and music from their personal computer
and play them on their entertainment center where they look and sound
the best. Home Media DVR is $19.99 per month.

Programming choices for Hispanic, African-American, Asian, Russian and other multicultural audiences are available in every market, making FiOS TV an outlet for emerging and independent networks to showcase their diverse programming.
Information on packages and prices is available at http://www.verizon.net/fiostv. Wayland and Norfolk customers also can call 1-888-GET-FIOS to see if they qualify to order FiOS TV.
Verizon research indicates 87 percent of Massachusetts residents favor more competition and choice for video services. Independent studies have shown that competition in the video market brings enormous benefits to consumers in the form of reduced prices, better packages and improved service.
FiOS TV is designed to be a formidable competitor to cable and satellite. Verizon's fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network, the largest of its kind in the country, is currently under construction in more than half the states where the company offers landline communications services, including almost 100 Massachusetts communities.
The network brings the power and capacity of fiber optics directly into people's homes and has industry-leading quality and reliability. Fiber delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen. It also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 5 Mbps as well as high-quality voice services.
(More information about FiOS TV and fiber optics is available in Verizon's online News Center at http://www.verizon.com/news.)
The value of FiOS TV extends to the installation and customer support. Specially trained Verizon technicians will install the service and acquaint subscribers with FiOS TV features and services. Verizon is waiving the installation fee for up to three existing TV outlets, and there is no charge to install a needed optical network terminal at the subscriber's home. Charges for other installation services, such as additional outlets, may apply. Verizon provides 24 x 7 technical assistance by phone from its Fiber Solutions Centers in Providence, R.I., and other cities.
[FiOS TV is available in Acton, Andover, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Boxborough, Boxford, Braintree, Burlington, Canton, Dedham, Dunstable, Framingham, Franklin, Georgetown, Hamilton, Holliston, Hopkinton, Ipswich, Lawrence, Lincoln, Littleton, Lexington, Lynn, Lynnfield, Marion, Marlborough, Marshfield, Mattapoisett, Medfield, Medway, Melrose, Methuen, Middleborough, Nahant, Natick, Needham, Newton, North Reading, Norfolk, Norwood, Reading, Rockland, Rowley, Sherborn, Southborough, Stoneham, Sudbury, Swampscott, Tewksbury, Topsfield, Tyngsborough, Wakefield, Waltham, Wayland, Wellesley, Wenham, West Newbury, Westborough, Westwood, Wilmington, Winchester and Woburn, as well as other locations in New York, New Jersey, California, Delaware, Texas, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia. Tektronix Addresses LTE Networks With Integrated Protocol Monitoring, Functional & Load Test SolutionSingle Powerful Solution Provides Testing & Monitoring of LTE Air and Fixed Line Interfaces
RICHARDSON, Texas, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix Communications, a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, today launched its comprehensive 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol test and monitoring solution that covers all protocol layers and physical interfaces, including air and fixed line interfaces, in one integrated offering. Tektronix' solution includes the G35-LTE (functional & load test platform) and the NSA-LTE (scalable platform for monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization), both of which are based on proven platforms used in testing 3G, mobile WiMAX and HSDPA technologies in networks around the world.
"While LTE technology will truly take broadband mobile, the underlying complexity is also taken to the next level. This is especially the case for performance testing, interoperability testing, troubleshooting and network optimization," said Othmar Kyas, Director of Strategic Marketing, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix Communications. "As a first-to-market provider of mobile test, Tektronix has been providing simulation, monitoring and optimization solutions for 3G, mobile WiMAX and HSDPA technologies for some time. We have applied this in-depth knowledge and expertise to our LTE development work. For the last year, we have been helping customers create a LTE access network test strategy. This strategy correlates the air interface with the fixed line interfaces, enabling customers to test all protocol layers at the air interface."
As consumer demand grows for richer services and connected lifestyles, mobile networks are evolving to meet the growing demand for bandwidth and advanced applications. LTE is poised to deliver a tenfold improvement of capacity and throughput, reducing deployment and operational costs. At the same time, LTE networks introduce major architectural and technological changes. Changing infrastructure architecture, coupled with evolving standards, demands reliable test, measurement and monitoring solutions that meet the challenges related to effective design cycles and rapid deployment schedules. These tools also need to be available as soon as the standardization bodies have released the technical specs.
G35-LTE: Simulation and Load Generation
Based on the leading 3G functional test platform, Tektronix' G35-LTE solution provides functional, load generation, conformance, interoperability and performance testing of LTE air and fixed line interfaces through a single, fully integrated test system. The G35-LTE enables customers to reduce time to market and to maximize the productivity of test activities during the development and market introduction of LTE network elements.
NSA-LTE: Troubleshooting and Performance Analysis
For LTE monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization, Tektronix introduces the NSA-LTE (Network & Service Analyzer for LTE). Probes for all LTE wireline and air interfaces, combined with comprehensive real time analysis capabilities, enable complex LTE test procedures in a powerful and easy to use toolset. The solution's online dashboards provide information about the test progress at a glance, and customizable Key Performance Indicators allow for rapid data reduction and focus on the areas under test.
Tektronix continues to anticipate the availability of new standards, protocols and test scenarios to allow the fast and effective development of the next wave of broadband wireless technologies. Over the years, Tektronix' mobile testing and monitoring products have enabled the transition from 2G to 3G and beyond with the consistent introduction of first-to-market applications for GPRS, EDGE and UMTS networks. The company is doing the same for next generation wireless networks and standards as 3GPP LTE. More information on Tektronix' LTE solutions can be found at: http://www.tektronix.com/lte.

/C O R R E C T I O N -- Mechel OAO/
BELORETSK, Russia, February 4 /PRNewswire/ --
In the news release, "Mechel Masters Unique Wire Production Technology at
its Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant Subsidiary" issued on 4 Feb 2008 13:00
GMT, by Mechel OAO NYSE:MTL over PR Newswire, we are advised by a
representative of the company that the second paragraph, last sentence,
should read "... RUR97.0 million (approximately US$3.9 million)" rather than
"RUR97.0 billion" as originally issued inadvertently.
Complete, corrected release follows:
Mechel OAO (NYSE: MTL), one of the leading Russian mining and metals
companies, announces that its Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant subsidiary
succeeded in mastering a unique technology to produce stabilized reinforcing
wire for prestressed concrete structures used in the construction industry.
The equipment supplied in March 2007 by one of the leading European
manufacturers, KOCH - GSG, enables Mechel, for the first time in the world,
to implement mechanical descaling and surface preparing of 9-16 mm diameter
high carbon wire rod in the drawing line resulting in output of 3-8 mm
high-tensile wire with 1,700-2,300 MPa maximum strength at the level of
approximately 20 thousand tonnes annually. The investments in the project are
approximately RUR97.0 million (approximately US$3.9 million).
Wire rod mechanical descaling and surface preparation in a drawing line
became widely popular in Europe and the USA to process low carbon wire rod of
up to 18.0 mm diameter and high carbon wire rod of 5.5-6.5 mm diameter. At
the same time, wire for prestressed concrete structures was manufactured only
from wire rod subjected to sulfuric or hydrochloric acid pickling followed by
phosphatation.
European firms attempted several times to implement mechanical descaling
of 9-16 mm diameter high carbon wire rod. But they failed to ensure a steady
wire drawing process due to increased wear of drawing dies and growing
breakage during drawing and, especially, during subsequent stabilizing
tempering under tension.
In the process of manufacturing the equipment and developing and
mastering the technology, the specialists of KOCH, TRAXIT, and Mechel jointly
solved the following problems:
-- Increase of the wire rod diameter required significantly higher
intensity of mechanical descaling, which, in the processes applied
previously, resulted in local quenching of the wire rod surface. Development
and optimization of a new high performance descaling method was necessary;
-- Development of special pre-lubricating salts with high adhesion
characteristics and selection of modes for applying and drying it was
required, as borax base pre-lubricating salts used previously did not provide
adhesion of lubricants sufficient for repeated drawing of an increased
diameter wire;
-- Use of a big diameter air-patented wire rod required more intensive
wire rod cooling in the Stelmor line to obtain fine structure. This
presupposes optimization of wire rod rolling and cooling modes of rolling
mill 150.
The work resulted in obtaining a stable drawing of 5.0 mm diameter wire
at reasonable drawing speed, which is matching to phosphate coated stock
material. The wire was successfully processed at the stabilizing line
supplied by GCR - Eurodraw.
PC wire is used in such prestressed concrete structures as railroad ties,
reinforced-concrete pressure pipes, road slabs, etc. Previously, mainly
tempered high tensile wire was used for that purpose in Russia and CIS. Three
to four times lower relaxation (losses of wire tension force) in final
products and their 10%-30% higher strength enable builders to significantly
reduce consumption of reinforcing materials.
"The new technological process enables producing high quality finished
products, while complying with environmental and industrial safety
requirements and reducing production costs. In addition, the process enables
Mechel for the first time in Russia and CIS to implement manufacturing
stabilized wire from Stelmor type wire rod, ensuring high production
performance. The new equipment and technologies enable Mechel to manufacture
stabilized reinforcing wire conforming to principal international standards,
which have better consumer properties as compared to the GOST standard
requirements," Mechel Management OOO Chief Executive Officer Vladimir Polin
commented.
Mechel is one of the leading Russian companies. Its business includes
three segments: mining, steel, and power. Mechel unites producers of coal,
iron ore concentrate, nickel, steel, rolled products, hardware, heat and
electric power. Mechel products are marketed domestically and
internationally.

New Mid-Range Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers Show Live RFSeeing is Believing with DPX(TM) Waveform Image Processing; Tektronix RSA3000B Series Gain Real-Time Imaging Capabilities First Introduced with High Performance RSA6100A
BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the addition of DPX(TM) waveform image processor technology to the mid-range RSA3000B Series Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers. This provides a unique live RF view of the spectrum using the RSA3300B and RSA3408B family models, enabling an unprecedented RF signal discovery capability for a broad range of digital RF applications including RFID, radio communications, and spectrum management. DPX transforms volumes of real-time data and produces a live RF spectrum display that reveals previously unseen RF signals and signal anomalies.
The rapid expansion of digital RF applications has driven the measurement needs of many applications including mobile communications and spectrum management beyond the capabilities of swept spectrum and vector signal analysis. Digital RF signals carry complex modulation and change from one instant to the next, hopping frequencies, spiking briefly and then disappearing. These transient and time varying transmission techniques help RF devices avoid interference, maximize peak power and, oftentimes, evade detection.
"Tektronix Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers are the first and only analyzers designed specifically to solve problems created by digital RF technologies," said Rick King, Vice President, Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer product line, Tektronix. "The addition of DPX technology with live RF from the high performance RSA6100A Series combined with a broad range of application-specific measurements makes the mid-range RSA3300B Series and RSA3408B the best choice not only for the toughest RF discovery and debug problems, but also as an everyday spectrum analysis and system characterization tool."
With a spectrum processing rate hundreds of times greater than any spectrum analyzer from other vendors, the RSA3300B series and RSA3408B provide 100% probability of intercept for transients as brief as 31 microseconds on the RSA3408B and 41 microseconds on the RSA3300B Series models. Combined with the exclusive ability to trigger on transient signals in both time and frequency domains, the RSA3300B Series and RSA3408B offer unmatched troubleshooting and debug of digital RF designs.
The RSA3300B series is available with either DC-3 GHz or DC-8 GHz frequency coverage. With 15 MHz capture bandwidth and 70 dB Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR), the RSA3300Bs are ideal for use in the design and debug of 3G mobile systems, Near-Field systems (such as RFID and Bluetooth), and narrow to medium bandwidth communications systems.
The RSA3408B with DC-8GHz frequency coverage, 36 MHz capture bandwidth and 73 dB SFDR is tailored for higher bandwidth and dynamic range applications including 3G mobile components and system debug, WLAN and WiMax system design, demanding spectrum management applications and general purpose digital RF debug.
"Many digital RF applications need to detect and analyze RF signals that quickly change frequencies or use complex characteristics," said David Saar, President, Saar Associates. "Most spectrum analyzers cannot adequately perform the needed measurements for these applications. Tektronix has addressed these problems by adding robust capabilities for the time domain through its RSA family of Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers, often saving hours or days troubleshooting problems. The unique real-time presentation of live RF signals means that a user will always find a problem signal. This combination of capabilities makes the new RSA3408B and RSA3300B models very attractive for a wide variety of applications."
DPX Makes All the Difference
DPX waveform image processor technology in the RSA3300B Series and RSA3408B models displays the live spectrum by processing >48,000 spectrum measurements per second, similar to the previously announced top-of-the-line RSA6114A model. This is orders of magnitude more information than is shown by any other spectrum analyzer without DPX, minimizing the analysis gaps inherent in swept spectrum and vector signal analyzers. To achieve >48,000 spectrum measurements per second, DPX makes use of dedicated, real-time hardware to process the incoming signal.
In addition to live RF, the waveform image processor also provides an intensity-graded persistence display that holds anomalies until the eye can see them to show the history of occurrence for dynamic signals and immediate feedback on signal variations over time. This provides engineers the ability to rapidly see on screen both transients and signals that ordinarily could not be seen, either because they are masked by other signals or could only be deduced after time consuming offline analysis. DPX waveform imaging will enhance productivity by quickly capturing elusive anomalies and transient events, improving accuracy and insight, and accelerating design debug.
"RF signals are complicated and often change substantially over time," said Mr. Takehiro Kawai, Assistant Manager, RFID Business Development Department, Business Development group, OMRON Corporation. "If we can quickly discover interference, then we can promptly analyze and solve problems. The DPX Live RF display of the RSA3000B series makes this easy, providing an ability to see and intuitively understand RFID signal behavior. Also, RSA3000B's analysis capabilities are also valuable for in-depth analysis of differences with IC tag chips that many companies provide."
Frequency Domain Triggering Through Frequency Mask Trigger (FMT)
The RSA3000B model with 15 MHz bandwidth and the RSA3408B with 36 MHz bandwidth are the only mid-range performance spectrum analyzers that can offer a frequency domain trigger. This is performed using the Frequency Mask Trigger (FMT) feature, finding interfering and transient signals that no other instrument can. FMT ensures that potential systems instabilities are eliminated from the design before they can cause a problem. By displaying a seamless record of frequency and power changes over time, the Tektronix analyzers can solve many transient problems ranging from modulation switching on software-defined radio systems to identification of rogue pulses in RADAR transmission to dynamic modulation changes during a WLAN transmission.
RSA3000B Series Is Part of the Tektronix Digital RF Test Bench
The explosion of digital RF has created a highly complex technology environment, requiring a need for next generation test and measurement instruments. Tektronix offers a digital RF test bench from signal generation to acquisition. Real-Time Spectrum Analyzers seamlessly capture RF signals changing over time and perform spectral, time, and modulation analysis with time-correlated multi-domain views. Arbitrary Waveform Generators generate ideal, distorted or "real-world" signals. Logic Analyzers enable the capture and analysis of the digital I/Q information to more quickly debug elusive problems within the digital baseband segment of a Digital RF design. Digital oscilloscopes allow measurements of strict timing relationships including signal integrity analysis. With these instruments and supporting software, Tektronix provides what customers need to test demanding digital RF applications.
Price and Availability
Prices for the RSA3303B with DPX begin at $32,900, U.S. MSRP. RSA3300B and RSA3408B software options are available for 3G, WiMAX, WLAN, RFID, Signal Source and General Purpose modulation and RF analysis. All models and options are available for order. "That difference can be made in the progress of our children as they study to meet the challenge of learning and working in the 21st century; in the lives of millions of Americans with low literacy skills who are unable to complete a job application or even read a menu; and in the lives of men and women who live in abusive and deadly situations and for whom a phone can open a line to hope," said Roberts.
The District of Columbia nonprofits that received Verizon Foundation grants during 2007 included:
-- Verizon Community Technology Centers -- these five state-of-the-art
technology centers allow D.C. residents access to high-speed Internet,
technology-based training and literacy classes at no charge. The
centers are conveniently located throughout the city.

for families through the delivery of health care, education and social
services. Recognized as a national model, Mary's Center is committed
to providing culturally competent programs and services to improve the
quality of life of diverse families.
-- The Urban Alliance Foundation -- an organization whose mission is to
prepare young adults from under-resourced neighborhoods in the District
for the world of work and a life of self-sufficiency through education,
mentoring and meaningful paid internships.
The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, supports the advancement of literacy and K-12 education through its signature program, Thinkfinity.org, and fosters awareness and prevention of domestic violence. In 2007, the foundation awarded more than $67.4 million in grants to nonprofit agencies in the United States and abroad. The foundation also matched the charitable donations of Verizon employees and retirees, resulting in $25.1 million in combined contributions. Through Verizon Volunteers, one of the nation's largest employee volunteer programs, Verizon employees and retirees have volunteered more than 3 million hours of community service since Verizon's inception in 2000.
