OnePartner, EMBARQ Announce Tier III Data Center ConnectivityUptime Institute: Duffield facility currently is sole U.S. company offering Tier III reliability
DUFFIELD, Va., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OnePartner today announced the availability of their high-availability business continuance, disaster recovery and colocation services, enabled significantly by a key partnership with EMBARQ to provide the needed highly reliable network access to deliver these services.
"Metro Ethernet provided by EMBARQ provides a direct connection to OnePartner's Tier III Advanced Technology & Applications Center (ATAC)," said Kathy Feagins, EMBARQ(TM) account executive. "We see great potential for a resource like the OnePartner ATAC, coupled with our Metro Ethernet, to highlight our region's infrastructure and draw additional businesses. It also fills a crucial role in the increasing automation our clients are putting in place."
A Tier III center provides multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, has redundant components, and is concurrently maintainable to ensure high availability. The Uptime Institute (http://www.uptimeinstitute.org/) created the Tier classification system as a benchmark for reliable data center infrastructure design.
"The OnePartner ATAC in Duffield currently is the sole U.S. company providing outsourced commercial data center services (including colocation and disaster recovery) that has been awarded a Tier III Design Certification by the Uptime Institute," said Julian Kudritzki, certification manager of The Uptime Institute and ComputerSite Engineering.
"EMBARQ has been great to work with from the early planning stages of our project. It is clear they understand how important disaster recovery planning is to their clients," said Tom Deaderick, director of OnePartner. "This relationship makes it very straightforward for businesses on the EMBARQ(TM) network to establish failover systems in the ATAC."
"Businesses in the region are becoming more dependent on their computing infrastructure," Feagins said. "Using EMBARQ's high-capacity Ethernet services and network monitoring capabilities, we can connect our clients to a resource that allows them to ensure those systems are available at all times."
About OnePartner, LLC
OnePartner is based in Duffield, Virginia. It is a privately-held sister company to Holston Medical Group (Kingsport, Tennessee). OnePartner will complete construction of the Nation's first commercial Tier III Certified disaster recovery & data center in June 2008. South Carolina Customer Wins EMBARQ(TM) ContestOnline entry wins $1,000 and a year of EMBARQ(TM) High Speed Internet service
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Adam Creswell, a Greenwood, SC, area IT manager, had resigned himself to using dial-up at his parents' home. But after entering -- and winning -- an EMBARQ co-sponsored contest with MySpace, he and his parents are living in the Internet fast lane.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060516/EMBARQLOGO )
Creswell won the EMBARQ "Friends Don't Let Friends (or Family) Use Dial-Up" contest for submitting the best essay on how a slow Internet connection has affected his life.
Creswell, who described the withdrawal of doing without high-speed Internet access when he moved in with his parents while he remodeled a home, will receive one year of EMBARQ(TM) High-Speed Internet service and $1,000.
"I was shocked -- I never win anything!" Creswell said after being notified he had won. "I told my parents and they were also pleasantly surprised. For years we've dealt with dial-up, which has led us to avoid computer use altogether. We're all so used to having a high-speed connection at work, and now we're going to be lucky enough to have it at home. I'm thrilled! 'Shock & Awe' -- Does that pretty much sum it up?"
The EMBARQ(TM) contest on MySpace was part of the company's launch of its official MySpace community. Entrants were asked to "Tell us how a slow Internet connection has affected your life."
Here is Creswell's winning entry:
"Recently, I moved back in with my family while I'm remodeling a home I just purchased. My parents still have dial-up internet access. Wow. I'm used to a high-speed connection -- it's mandatory. Between waiting for literally HOURS to receive pictures and attachments sent from friends and family via e-mail and reading the newspaper while waiting on a Web page to load, it's excruciating. Downloading music? Forget it. Streaming video? Don't think so. It has come to the point that my parents and I just stopped using the computer at home. My mother, a school teacher, and my father, an industrial engineer, are relatively advanced. High-definition TV, surround sound, and all the latest gadgetry are commonplace to them in every other aspect of their lives, but they cannot seem to grasp the idea of a high-speed connection at home! Not to mention that I'm an IT Manager! It's doubly hard for me to work from home -- no--- it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to work from home. No remote connections via dial-up. No opportunity to check e-mail from the house 00 because heaven forbid I receive an attachment over 50k... I cringe at the thought of that little yellow balloon appearing over my system tray: 'Now connected at 45.2kbps.' Please help my parents (and me) into the 21st century."

RESTON, Va., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- comScore, Inc. , a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its monthly analysis of U.S. consumer activity at top online properties for January 2008 from the comScore Media Metrix service. The month saw increased visits to tax, politics, career, real estate and travel-related sites.
"The new year represents a time for Americans to reflect on the past year and plan for the coming year, whether it's searching for a new job, a new residence, or preparing for tax season," said Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore Media Metrix. "There was also a huge surge in activity at political content sites as the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries kicked off with the Iowa caucuses in early January."

Racing, Rockets and Aerodynamics: Lockheed Martin Leads Week of Activities to Captivate Next Generation of Engineers
DALLAS and FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin's two North Texas business units will support local activities to promote math and science education for students during National Engineers Week, February 17-23. Through fun, hands-on activities, K-12 students will learn about engineering and engineering careers.
Outreach activities include making classroom presentations on engineering, engaging students in discussions on engineering careers, and providing teachers activity guides that involve engineering principles.
"At Lockheed Martin, almost half of our 140,000 employees are scientists and engineers, and our ability to inspire youth to pursue technology and science careers goes to the heart of our ability to innovate and thrive -- not just as a company, but as a nation," said Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Bob Stevens.
Throughout the week, employees at Aeronautics in Fort Worth and Missiles and Fire Control in Grand Prairie will reach out to more than 15,000 North Texas students in all grade levels to demonstrate how engineers impact our everyday lives.
In Fort Worth, nearly 5,000 elementary students will feel the power of engineering in their own hands at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History through interactive lessons led by Aeronautics employees. Additionally, employees will visit schools throughout Tarrant County to share the story of powered flight. Volunteers will also celebrate engineering among themselves through a mouse trap car competition.
In Grand Prairie, employee volunteers will visit approximately 3,000 Mansfield, Grand Prairie and Arlington students from February 11-22, and 150 area high school students will visit the facility to explore aspects of research, development and production. Lockheed Martin volunteers will also help guide visitors at Southern Methodist University's Visioneering event, and employees at the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science will set up a booth and teach children about structural engineering using Lego structures. At the facility, employees will put their engineering skills to the test in two contests: a pinewood car race and the "Return to No Man's Land" competition, which will pit employee-made, custom robots against each other in a gamut of obstacles.
National Engineers Week presents an ideal opportunity to reach out to students, from kindergarten through college, with activities in schools and in the community. Supported by a formal coalition of more than 70 engineering, educational and cultural societies, and more than 50 corporations and government agencies, National Engineers Week is dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers' positive contributions to our quality of life.
Activities throughout the week promote recognition amongst parents, teachers and students in the importance of a technical education and a high level of math, science, and technology literacy, motivating youths to pursue engineering careers in order to provide a diverse, vigorous and informed engineering workforce. Each year, National Engineers Week reaches thousands of schools, businesses and community groups across the United States.
Lockheed Martin is a corporate sponsor of National Engineers Week, which was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers. The week's activities continue to grow each year, and in 2004, expanded to the international community.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.

Verizon Wireless Expands Wireless Broadband Network in Ohio to Portions of Holmes and Ashland CountiesHigh-Speed Network Gives Verizon Wireless Customers Access to Fast Wireless Internet, E-mail, Mobile Music, Videos, and More
MILLERSBURG, Ohio, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today that it has expanded the national rollout of its high-speed wireless network to portions of Holmes and Ashland counties including the towns of Millersburg, Loudonville, Nashville, Paint Valley, and Walnut Creek. The expansion includes State Route 39 from Loudonville east to Walnut Creek.
"Ohio is home to many vital markets with dynamic, tech-savvy business people, students, visitors, and residents who want to stay connected," said Roger Tang, president -- Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia region, Verizon Wireless. "The launch of our broadband network in Millersburg and nearby communities provides our customers with access to the very latest wireless technology."
With the wireless broadband network now available, Verizon Wireless customers in the area can enjoy two prime services:
-- BroadbandAccess, the enhanced high-speed wireless service that equips
Verizon Wireless' business customers with a truly untethered mobile
office experience, enabling them to wirelessly access their calendars,
the Internet, e-mail, and critical business information residing
behind their companies' firewalls; and
-- V CAST, a consumer-oriented multimedia service that gives customers
access to the most comprehensive selection of downloadable music,
high-quality videos and the coolest 3D games found anywhere.
BroadbandAccess
Based on Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) network technology, BroadbandAccess provides mobile workers with the ability to access their corporate information as if they were attached to this data via a high-speed wired connection but with the freedom of true mobility. Developed with a range of users in mind, the service enables large enterprises, small- to medium-sized businesses and mobile professionals to conduct business anytime, anywhere in the BroadbandAccess coverage area via a secure, true high-speed data connection.
With BroadbandAccess, business customers, residents and visitors to Millersburg and nearby communities can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. That means they can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.
BroadbandAccess also enables Verizon Wireless customers to download files approximately 10 times faster than customers of wireless service providers that use different broadly deployed network technologies. Furthermore, customers who travel outside the enhanced BroadbandAccess coverage area with
an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to the company's NationalAccess service.
"Our enhanced BroadbandAccess service gives our customers three key advantages in wireless communication -- speed, mobility and security," Tang said. "With these advantages comes an increase in productivity and bottom-line business benefits."
V CAST: Video and Music
The company's wireless broadband network also enables its V CAST multimedia services, which offer customers the ability to download full-song tracks, play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to their handsets with top transmission speeds. With content updated daily, customers can watch dozens of on demand videos, including breaking news, weather updates, sports highlights, and the hottest entertainment clips.
With V CAST Music, Verizon Wireless has built a massive full-song mobile music store that contains more than 2.7 million songs -- from well-known as well as independent artists -- that customers can download over-the-air, directly onto their V CAST Music-enabled wireless phones.
Investment
The multi-million dollar expansion includes the installation of high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the region. Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $44 billion since it was formed -- $5.5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. Nearly $1.15 billion of this investment was spent in Ohio. In 2007, the company invested nearly $190 million in Ohio network improvements.
Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States.

CCID Consulting Analyzes Internet Game Rules After the Grand Capital Feast
BEIJING, Feb. 18 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China's leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (Hong Kong Stock Exchange: HK08235), recently released its article on Internet game rules after the grand capital feast.
In the first half of 2007, China's Internet market was very flat. Except that the netizen penetration rate topped the 10% mark at the beginning of the year which stimulated the whole market, there were not many exciting spots. In the second half of the year, the Internet market changed its plain-sailing scene in the first half of the year and was in upheavals: Firstly, the successful listing in the United States of the online game company Perfect World opened a new round of listing tide for Chinese Internet enterprises. The original online game firm Kingsoft was listed in the HKEx. In the golden month of November, http://www.ztgame.com/ , the overthrower of old online game rules landed in the NYSE, which was the first Chinese online game stock. Almost at the same time, NetDragon made its debut at the Hong Kong Growth Enterprise Market. The biggest highlight was the listing in the NYSE of Alibaba, the No.1 firm in China's B2B market 5 days later. Its $20 billion plus market value created a legend for science and technology stocks in China, bringing the grand capital fest to its peak.
Other Internet enterprises which had already been on the capital stage did not stop there, In November, Baidu announced, in a high profile, its entry into the C2C E-business market, causing shocks and guesses in the market. Considering the cooperation between Google and Sina, Netease's introduction of Yodao search engine after consolidating in the online game market and Tencent's Paipai E-business strategies, listed Chinese Internet enterprises have seen their main business positioning going through the whole process from portal to IM, search, online games and then to E-business. However, after drawing a clear main business line, their gradually integrated business forms have become more uncertain and less inscrutable.
CCID Consulting's research shows that the number of Internet users in China is expected to top 180 million. Driven by a continuously growing demand, the Internet services market will also maintain a high growth of 40-50%, reaching a size of almost 60 million Yuan, The main services market including online games and search engine will grow by some 70% year-on-year. Meanwhile, major breakthroughs have been made in the development of the E-business market. There is a deepening integration between B2B and traditional industries. B2C and C2C business models have also been innovated. There has been a big increase in the number of E-business users and trading volume. The total transaction value in China's overall E-business market in 2007 is expected to hit 1.7 trillion Yuan. In this market with over 180 million Internet users, the user demand is growing and becomes integrated. On the other hand, the rapidly growing Internet user numbers and the incremental demand and users greatly support the fast growth of the Internet market and allow Internet enterprises in China to fully enjoy the successes and joys brought about by market growth. While Chinese enterprises enjoy the grand capital feast, capital also enjoys a great meal of China's Internet market and continues to push forward Chinese enterprises to gather pace to continuously pursue every possible market opportunity.
Game Rule 1: traffic is everything
The iron rule of portal websites in the Web/1.0 era is that traffic is everything. Access traffic by netizens is measured using such important indicators as rankings by Pageview and Alexa which are favored by the capital market. Through the profitability of traffic has met with suspicions and challenges from the market, what is undeniable is that the potential values of traffic itself have been recognized in the capital market. The logic is very simple -- taking up and owning the potential values will be the precondition for mining and releasing commercial values. Under this major logic precondition, domestic portal websites started a grand listing movement around 2000. In addition to portal websites, search services also belong to a leading business model for traffic. To increase their traffic, some Internet enterprises have carried out diversified operations in these 2 fields. For example, Tencent has built a Tencent portal website and Alibaba has acquired Yahoo! China.
In essence, traffic possesses the potential to turn into cash. Once matching with the corresponding profit models, traffic will have a huge power. This rule is thus still playing a considerably important role, though it is already morphologically different from the access traffic by netizens at the beginning. For example, making a later start, http://www.ztgame.com/ has adopted a fundamental free online game business model to bring huge player traffic to its game ZhengTu. Then, it has got the market value from game props charges on high-end users. To retain and consolidate its various individual business merchants, Alibaba Group's C2C platform http://www.taobao.com/ has long adopted a free model. So far, it has not really collected any charges. From one aspect, Netease's entry into the search field and the cooperation between Google and Sina also reflect Internet enterprises' desire for traffic growth.
Game Rule 2: user experience and improve adhesion
Entering the Web2.0 era, initiative, interactiveness, personality and experience have become the mainstream ways to use Internet for users. Under the precondition of no good experience, Internet users can select a new services provider and experience new services by clicking another domain name or simply the mouse on the network browser. No any other service has a lower shift cost than Internet services. In this sense, access traffic and access loyalty are difficult to be unified. They even exclude each other. The capital market is also well aware that without loyalty, it is very difficult o realize the business values of access traffic.
Using experiences with the sense of recognition to improve user adhesion is a sensible judgment and choice made by many Internet enterprises in the Web2.0 era. We can also see that enterprises have made a series of efforts to improve their user adhesion, including diversified penetration between Internet services with big traffic and strong adhesion and mutual penetration within Internet services with strong user adhesion. For example, Baidu Tieba and Baidu Zhidao both strengthen user adhesion to the search engines through communities. As an IM service provider, Tencent has entered the leisure game field and stayed top of the market. These are all specific measures to further strengthen user adhesion.
Game Rule 3: value orientation
Be it user traffic or user adhesion, the whole business model system still cannot be without the final link to encash values. In addition to caring about how to encash values, the capital market pays even greater attention to how to maximize the cashing of values. Under the current business models, E-business has won unique favors from the capita market due to its control over high-valued customer groups with the biggest consuming power. Alibaba saw an almost 200% rise in its share price on its IPO day and a 318 times P/E ratio. This speaks it all. Of course, the absolute number of high-end B2B customers is limited. To catch up with capital, E-business enterprises have also to conceive all kinds of ways to improve the access traffic of their services while ensuring user adhesion and innovating their high added-value services.
Value orientation not only refers to customer groups with high values but also includes high value services that correspond to corresponding customer group. Only when high-end users accept high-end services, they can show high adhesion. Low-end users will be automatically filtered out when services are provided to them. The result of offering general services to all customer groups can only be the gradual loss of high added-value users. This is an important reason why QQ has 250 million active users but still cannot smoothly switch to the B2B E-business online trading platform. Thus, the business logic behind Tencent's introduction of C2C Paipai is self-evident. This similarly can explain the initial purpose which Baidu had in entering the C2C E-business field. Whether the huge traffic of the Internet grassroots can take up the mainstream position in business values will not only depend on the stratification and upgrading of their group structure but also whether there is adhesive services with high added-values to go along with them in the process.
Being based on access traffic, taking user adhesion as the guarantee and user values and business values as the orientation are the game rules for China's capital-led Internet market. Internet services have started to gradually turn their public information integration and release functions to the function of particular services for high added-value groups. Services attributes have transcended new media platforms and gradually approached enterprise- and personal-level value-added applications. The rising helix curve from the starting point to the end and then to a new starting point represents the whole process of Chinese Internet enterprises' business integration and evolution, market competitions and cooperation. As the operational rules of China's Internet market are increasingly closer to those of the traditional industries, exploring the game rules of the Internet market may bring us some other implications.
