Fiat will show a new demonstration of an innovative application called
ecoDrive, which analyses the motorist's driving style and offers suggestions
on how to drive more "ecologically". By using the USB port of the versatile
Blue&Me system, it is possible to record the characteristics of a motorist's
driving style, and using a normal USB key, carry that information into a
digital environment. There, the driver can analyse in detail the fuel
consumption and CO2 emissions of every journey, receive advice on how to
drive with a lower impact on the environment, and become part of a community
that shares an eco-aware driving ethic.
Blue&Me has now proved to be one of Fiat's most successful service
offerings with 80 per cent per cent uptake in all of the pre-ordered Fiat
500s in Europe. The recent launch of Blue&Me Map for the Fiat 500 is also
enjoying a huge sales success. Microsoft will present a Fiat 500 with Blue&Me
Map at its booth in Hannover at this year's CeBIT.
In Geneva, Lancia Automobiles will globally launch the new Lancia Delta,
with Blue&Me or Blue&Me Nav as an optional extra. Blue&Me Nav provides a
simple and intuitive voice-controlled navigation system via a Bluetooth
interface; as standard it also incorporates a USB port, MP3 player and SMS
text interpreter. Blue&Me Nav's key functions such as phone, music player and
navigation are built into the instrument panel, allowing drivers to listen to
their favourite music, make phone calls and use the navigation system via the
hands-free interface. The speech recognition technology ensures drivers have
hands-free access to all Blue&Me's features in a completely safe manner when
in motion.
"Microsoft and its partners share a vision for transforming the driving
experience by connecting motorists seamlessly and conveniently to the people
and information they care about while they are on the road," said Martin
Thall, general manager of Microsoft Auto. "By building on the Microsoft Auto
platform, Fiat's ability to innovate and create market-defining in-car
technology allows the company to build even further on its reputation for
driver-centric innovation and design."
As well as automakers and their suppliers, many popular aftermarket
manufacturers also incorporate Microsoft software into their offerings. At
CeBIT Microsoft will showcase several state-of-the-art navigation/multimedia
head units built on Microsoft's Windows Automotive operating system.
Sync to Drive Ford
Microsoft Auto has seen further momentum in the US with Ford Sync
following its launch last year. Ford has estimated Sync will be a massive hit
in the US car market with a projected 1 million cars sold equipped with it by
early 2009. With the launch of the Ford Focus in the US, Sync has become the
most requested feature in all Focus models, particularly among the 18- to
35-year-old audience.
At the CeBIT expo in Hannover, the international automotive supplier
Continental AG will showcase a prototype of its next-generation Multimedia
Platform (MMP), based on the Microsoft Auto platform. It includes navigation,
high-end multimedia applications and interfaces that connect multiple
portable electronic entertainment devices.
The Microsoft Auto platform allows Continental to focus on its key
competences, such as system design, vehicle integration, driver assistance
systems and safety systems. This also means its MMP is easily upgradeable,
enabling Continental customers to keep up with the latest technologies and
standards.
Carmakers benefit from this concept by getting a tailor-made system in a
much shorter lead time, which allows more time to integrate the latest trends
in consumer electronics into the automotive environment. Ultimately, this
enables motorists and their passengers to enjoy the latest infotainment
technology as soon as it is available.
"Thanks to the excellent cooperation with Microsoft's Automotive Business
Unit we are making rapid progress with our new platform. The development of
this solution proves that our collaboration allows every party to concentrate
on its key competencies, which maximises the benefit for our customers," said
Helmut Matschi, president of Continental's Interior Division.

Blue&Me Nav
navigation via l'interface mains libres.
lancement de Ford Sync l'an dernier.

Autonomy Enables Improved E-Learning and Education in SwedenThe Swedish Research Council Selects IDOL to Create a Single Web Portal for Academia and Citizens of Sweden
CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN FRANCISCO, California, March 4
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autonomy Corporation plc ( or ), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that The Swedish Research Council, Vetenskapsradet, has selected its Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) platform as part of The Swedish government's initiative to promote research, e-learning and collaboration within Sweden's education system. Autonomy's Meaning-based Computing technologies will enable the Research Council to consolidate all of the country's academic information into one single web portal, Forsking.se.
As one of the co-owners and the host of the editorial offices for Forsking.se, The Swedish Research Council, together with nine other public authorities, wanted to develop a nationwide website to provide a single access point for academia, as well as the general public, to effectively find online research information and learning support from disparate sources. The aim of the portal is to make academic information more accessible by organizing data from different research projects, supplementing texts with comprehensible summaries, and incorporating clear, straight-forward presentations.
The Swedish Research Council selected Autonomy's IDOL for Forsking.se for its ability to conceptually form an understanding of information, regardless of its format, and to automate many time-consuming manual processes. Through the use of Autonomy's automatic categorisation functions, Forsking.se's small editorial team is able to focus on its main business objective - the creation of new content for the site, rather than spending time managing the portal through manual classification and tagging of all existing and new data. With IDOL, the portal's editorial team and various contributors will be able to quickly and accurately upload all new articles without the need to tag or create taxonomies as the software automatically classifies these documents. Users of Forsking.se will now be able to find information quicker, while delivering better return-on-investment for The Swedish Research Council.
Forsking.se contains information in various multimedia formats about everything from climate reports to the latest science progress in specialized medical fields and offers separate entry points for teachers, scientists, high school students and university students. The Autonomy solution will make it easier for these target groups to find relevant information as through Autonomy's Automatic Query Guidance functionality, the users are given suggestions for different filtering options to enable them to quickly locate the data they require.
"We often hear from teachers, students, scientists and researchers that they would like to have a single website where they could find research and academic information easily and effectively. Autonomy will make this a reality and through the technology's automation capabilities, we will be able to make this a viable and manageable project," said Ulf Daneklev, Forsking.se's editor at The Swedish Research Council.
Through Forsking.se, academic information will not only be more accessible to the public, but collaboration amongst universities, colleges as well as the research industry will be promoted, enabling a better quality of research and education in the country. The Swedish media will also access the site to make use of various articles and interactive presentations and animations to support and explain popular news and feature topics.
"Autonomy takes pride in delivering innovative technologies to academia," commented Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "We look forward to further supporting The Swedish Research Council as it continues to enhance its web portal with more and more advanced features such as the incorporation of more multi-media content."

SAP and IDS Scheer Partner to Bring Customers Easier Modeling and Visualization of Enterprise ServicesEvolution of Global Partnership Integrates ARIS Technology from IDS Scheer and Enterprise Services Repository from SAP;SAP NetWeaver(R) Technology Platform Only Environment Enabling Blueprinting for Service-Oriented Architecture
HANOVER, Germany, March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Further enabling customers to realize the benefits of enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA), SAP AG and IDS Scheer today announced an expansion of their strategic partnership that will enable customers, for the first time, to take a model and process-centric approach to the implementation of service-enabled business applications from SAP. Through the integration of the Enterprise Services Repository of SAP NetWeaver(R) and ARIS technology from IDS Scheer (also available through SAP as SAP enterprise modeling applications by IDS Scheer), customers will be able to more quickly identify opportunities to better meet the shifting needs of the business and deliver rapid, tangible return on investment. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2008, the world's leading information technology showcase, being held in Hanover, Germany, March 4-9.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050310/SFTH009LOGO-a)
Building upon a long-standing strategic partnership focused on developing tools that enable the understanding, documentation and analysis of stable business processes, the integration brings together the modeling capabilities of the industry-leading ARIS product family with SAP's robust repository of enterprise services to create a conceptual business blueprint for enterprise SOA.
"Services repositories play a pivotal role in organizations for the governance of a large-scale SOA," said Paolo Malinverno, vice president of research, Gartner. "Business-level modeling capabilities tightly integrated with the services and other reusables managed in such a repository allow much better alignment between business and IT."
Released in 1992, ARIS from IDS Scheer is a tool set enabling the discovery, documentation, analysis and optimization of stable, well-understood business processes. Enterprise Services Repository from SAP, developed in close collaboration with IDS Scheer, is a central library where all enterprise service metadata is illustrated and explained, enabling the reuse of enterprise services for modeling and composing new applications. Now, with ARIS technology integration, Enterprise Services Repository users can more clearly visualize, understand and describe their enterprise SOA, including areas built upon SAP solutions as well as areas built in-house or through third parties.
"The integration of ARIS technology with the Enterprise Services Repository of SAP NetWeaver allows customers to access SAP's modeled process components and enterprise services, for the first time, from a business process analysis environment," said Wolfram Jost, executive board member, IDS Scheer AG. "These are true benefits for companies that constantly thrive to improve their business performance. The benefits include a more flexible design of business processes and a deeper understanding of what SAP's service-enabled business applications provide from a business process perspective, combining business process execution with enterprise services. It is a great opportunity for both SAP and IDS Scheer."
Unlike other repository solutions, this integration now enables a combined business and technical view on a company's services-oriented architecture. Users will have visibility into a variety of scenarios including the harmonization and standardization of heterogeneous IT landscapes and the implementation of specific process innovations enabled by enterprise services.
"SAP delivers value to customers by providing innovative and strategic solutions that enable these companies to harness their full business potential and support them in adapting to changing business requirements," said Peter Zencke, executive board member, SAP AG. "Co-innovation together with technology leaders like IDS Scheer is a critical element to that strategy, and we are proud of the continuing evolution of this long-standing relationship."
Via reseller agreement, ARIS is available from SAP as SAP enterprise modeling applications by IDS Scheer. The latest release of the Enterprise Services Repository of SAP NetWeaver is currently available to ramp-up customers and is scheduled to be generally available in the third quarter of 2008.
SAP solutions for companies of all sizes can be seen at Booth D12 in Hall 4, at CeBIT 2008, being held March 4-9, 2008.

SAP and Intel Collaborate to Offer Pre-Installed Business Solutions for Midsize Companies Optimized for Quad Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) ProcessorsIntended Offering Brings Pre-Configured SAP(R) Business All-in-One Solution onto Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor-Based Modular Servers Packaged with Operating System and Database; Prototype is Shown at CeBIT 2008
HANOVER, Germany, March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Building upon its recently announced fast-start program for SAP(R) Business All-in-One solutions, SAP AG today revealed plans for an expansion of its partnership with Intel. SAP and its long-term technology partner Intel intend to introduce a ground-breaking offering that will be offered on Intel(R) Xeon(R)-based systems via original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and hardware system providers based on SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell and the database SAP(R) MaxDB. The offering targets midsize companies in the manufacturing, service and trade industries and directly addresses the demands in these market segments for quick and easy implementation, and tailored yet scalable solutions at predictable costs. Midsize companies are expected to see significant benefits from this comprehensive offer, as it allows quick time to deployment of end-to-end business processes at a low total cost of ownership (TCO). The announcement was made at CeBIT 2008, the world's leading information technology showcase, being held in Hanover, Germany, March 4-9, where a prototype of the new offering is being presented at the SAP booth.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050310/SFTH009LOGO-a)
"The powerful combination of advanced hardware innovation, quad core Intel(R) Xeon(R) processors and SAP Business All-in-One will bring substantial business benefits and lower cost for midmarket customers," said Pat Gelsinger, senior vice president and general manager, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel Corp. "Together with SAP, we plan to offer a solution that is optimized and validated on the Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor Architecture and deployed on modular servers by our partner OEM system providers."
The modular servers will be available for midsize enterprises and will provide outstanding server performance, helping to meet the unique demands of small and midsize enterprise (SME) customers. A prototype of the offering will be shown at the SAP booth at CeBIT 2008 and will run on an NEC system based on 45nm Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor technology, meeting the initial modular server specifications.
"To succeed in the SME market, software and hardware vendors must develop offerings to meet the specific performance demands of small and midsize companies, but that is not easy," said Ray Boggs, VP of small and medium business research, IDC. "Industry-specific capabilities that can be readily implemented in an affordable way will be key, but so will having offerings that are easy to access, with hardware and software already aligned. In effect, customers will be looking to reconcile the somewhat contradictory goals of a solution designed to meet their individual needs but in an almost pre-configured fashion to minimize time and cost."
Bundled for Low TCO
The new offering for SAP Business All-in-One is designed to combine software, database and hardware into one package, with all components optimized to help midsize companies drive down TCO. The package includes SAP MaxDB, the affordable, simple and reliable high-performing database optimized for SAP solutions, and is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell, a secure, reliable solution at low cost.
"With SUSE Linux Enterprise, midsize customers are able to optimize both their SAP functionality and their infrastructure, including a fully integrated, validated technology stack to reduce complexity and increase manageability and reduce total cost of ownership," said Jeff Jaffe, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Novell. "It is the open platform of choice, fully supported and delivering ease of use with quality innovation."
Today, more than 700 midsize companies run their SAP applications on Linux, and more than 35 percent of those in combination with SAP MaxDB.
More Hardware Partners to Come
The SAP initiative and optimization work done by Intel for the Intel(R) Xeon(R) platform is part of a series of planned partnerships with multiple hardware vendors to offer solutions for midsize companies that lower TCO, maximize cost transparency and offer comprehensive functionality to streamline core business operations. As a result, the fast-start program for SAP Business All-in-One offers best practices for pre-configured industry functionality in a defined package that can be rapidly implemented without complex adaptations. Ecosystem Embraces Planned Alliance SAP partners are free to make the intended offering part of their services portfolio, and it is already being heralded by the SAP partner ecosystem.
"The offering and the aligned components will provide SME customers with an excellent on-premise solution that is instantly ready to use, providing a very attractive TCO," said Sangita Singh, SVP and head EAS, Wipro Technologies, an SAP global services partner. "As a partner, we could rely on an aligned solution with tested components that have proven themselves with thousands of customers. We would be delighted to offer our solution in the Indian market, as we are convinced that there is both a great demand for and interest in the solution."
Built-In Innovation
With the easy-to-use solution configurator, prospective customers can quickly configure the SAP Business All-in-One solution according to their needs and immediately receive a cost estimation* for the solution, including SAP MaxDB, based on SUSE Linux, the Intel(R) Xeon(R)-based server systems as well as implementation.
"The intended offering is another compelling example of how SAP collaborates with its continuously growing partner ecosystem to develop attractive business application packages with built-in innovation," said Hans-Peter Klaey, president, Global SME and corporate officer, SAP AG. "I am confident that this package will simplify the deployment and use of on-premise solutions, drive adoption of integrated business solutions in the SME market and further deliver the best value to our customers."

Expansion of Ecosystem Drives Global SAP(R) Business ByDesign(TM) Solution MomentumSAP Continues Rollout of Most Complete On-Demand Solution in Key Geographic Markets; New Group of 'Early Partners' Endorse SAP Business ByDesign Approach
HANOVER, Germany, March 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continuing to drive its rollout of SAP(R) Business ByDesign(TM), the most complete and adaptable on-demand business solution addressing the specific needs of rapidly growing midsize companies, SAP AG today announced 21 additional respected IT service providers from China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom have assigned to commit themselves to accompany SAP in its phased go-to-market approach. Of these "early partners," 16 companies have tremendous experience serving the needs of small businesses and midsize companies with the SAP(R) Business One application and the SAP(R) Business All-in-One solution. In addition to these existing SAP partners who intend to expand their established business with a new model dedicated to volume business, five new companies have expressed their intention to join forces with SAP with the plan to grow their businesses with SAP Business ByDesign. These companies include MyNet Co Ltd. and Inventec Service Co. Ltd. from China as well as ALPHA Business Solutions AG, GUS Group and PORTOLAN Commerce Solutions GmbH from Germany. Representing key target regions across EMEA and Asia, all these IT service providers intend to work closely with SAP to market the SAP Business ByDesign solution, enabling midsize companies to quickly and cost-effectively reap value from this on-demand business solution. The announcement was made at CeBIT 2008, the world's leading information technology showcase, being held in Hanover, Germany, March 4-9.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050310/SFTH009LOGO-a)
SAP Business ByDesign is an entirely new addition to the SAP solution portfolio for small businesses and midsize companies and focuses on a new, additional market segment at the lower end of the midmarket. With its on-demand deployment model, customers benefit from ease-of use, high availability, full integration and reduced costs for maintenance, testing and upgrades. With this announcement, there are now 43 "early partners" working closely with SAP to address the un-met needs of midsize companies (see October 29, 2007 press release titled, "SAP Announces U.S. Partners to Sign Up to Assist Delivery of SAP(R) Business ByDesign(TM) to Midmarket").
"As a market leader in the pharmaceutical industry, we are close to the market and know exactly what midsize customers in this particular segment require," said Heinz-Paul Bonn, chairman of the board, GUS Group. "We consider GUS and SAP a perfect fit since we strongly believe in the software-as-a-service business model and regard SAP Business ByDesign as a great platform for international markets."
Ecosystem Strengthens Business ByDesign Partner Program
By working closely with SAP, upcoming and existing partners will add tremendous knowledge and know-how to the SAP Business ByDesign partner program. ALPHA Business Solutions AG, a German system integrator, is a new partner of SAP and also resells non-SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
"SAP Business ByDesign is an ideal addition to our current solution portfolio," said Michael Finkler, chief executive officer, ALPHA Business Solutions AG. "We believe this will help us address a new market segment to enhance our business growth. The new solution allows us to offer a subscription-based-on-demand model. In 14 years of consulting engagements with midmarket customers, we often have realized that companies require an integrated business suite, but do not have in-house access to necessary IT resources. SAP Business ByDesign will help those customers to get a top-notch business solution."
Partners clearly recognize the tremendous market opportunities for SAP Business ByDesign -- and for their own businesses.
"Partners will play a key role in the success of SAP Business ByDesign," said Hans-Peter Klaey, president, Global SME, SAP AG. "SAP Business ByDesign introduces a new business model along with the existing SME portfolio -- extending our successful portfolio and providing entirely new opportunities for partners. SAP is dedicating significant resources to ensure that our partners are well-equipped to effectively roll out the new solution and cater to growing customer interest."

euNetworks Expands its IP|nex Range of High-Performance Global IP Solutions
DUBLIN, Ireland, March 4 /PRNewswire/ --
euNetworks (SGX: H23.SI), owner and operator of one of Europe's highest
capacity fiber networks and provider of mission-critical communication
infrastructure and services, today announced that it has expanded its IP|nex
product range. The expansion will bolster the redundancy of its next
generation suite of scalable, high-performance, Internet Protocol (IP)
solutions through IP Transit provided by Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC).
The industry-wide shift to all IP communications, whether for voice,
video or data communications, has created a huge challenge to deliver
scalable, high-performance IP access, in a redundant, zero-downtime
environment. IP|nex enables corporates, carriers and service providers to
harness the power of IP for rapid, low-cost and high-performance access to
information and connect regions, customers and partners.
IP|nex simultaneously consolidates multiple IP Transit providers through
one connection to the client. It taps into Tier-1 global IP providers
including Global Crossing, among others, depending on the client's
requirements. It also delivers real-time optimization of traffic routing for
maximum performance and minimal latency through its more than 10,000 peering
relationships and customers can enjoy a single service level agreement (SLA),
centralized control management, one bill and one point of contact for global
IP solutions.
euNetworks can deliver IP|nex door to door through its wholly-owned,
low-latency pan-European network. Constructed at a cost of euro 1.3 billion,
euNetworks owns and operates one of Europe's highest-capacity fiber-optic
networks that combines "long-haul" fiber networks (Germany, Netherlands,
United Kingdom, France and Belgium) with "last-mile" (Frankfurt, Munich,
Berlin, Stuttgart, Hanover, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Paris, Amsterdam,
Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, London and Dublin). In addition IP|nex will be
offered via the recently announced euro-one alliance -- a collaboration of
Europe's leading fiber-optic network providers to deliver infrastructure and
next-generation networking solutions connecting Central, Eastern, Western
Europe and North America, connecting more than 350 cities through more than
1,000 points of presence.
IP|nex suite of services include IP Transit for the fastest, most
redundant Internet transit and VPN|nex for fully managed, highly secure,
global VPNs.
Global Crossing is one of the leading providers of IP solutions worldwide
and operates an integrated global IP-based network, connecting more than 390
cities in 30 countries around the globe. Consequently, customers are not only
enabled with euNetworks' extensive pan-European all-fiber network, but also
allied to a secure global IP platform, providing scalable, high performance
IP transit connectivity with minimum hop, minimum latency and minimum packet
loss -- all under the highest industry service level agreements.
Anthony Christie, managing director, EMEA for Global Crossing said: "As
operator of the world's largest, wholly owned, fully converged native IP
network, we're uniquely positioned to deliver to the most exacting
requirements demanded by euNetworks and their expanding customer base. We're
delighted that euNetworks has selected Global Crossing as provider of
reliable IP Transit."
Albrecht Kraas, chief technology officer at euNetworks said: "As
communications and applications converge, the ability to guarantee high
availability becomes critical. euNetworks, through its ownership of an
all-fiber network in Europe, is now allied to a multi-homed, highly redundant
IP platform delivered by a select blend of Tier 1 providers under a single
SLA."
About euNetworks
euNetworks owns and operates one of Europe's highest capacity fiber
networks and provides mission critical communication infrastructure and
services to large corporations, carriers, and service providers. Constructed
at a cost in excess of euro 1.3 billion, euNetworks' all-fiber optic network
uniquely combines "long-haul" inter-city network linking Europe's largest
economies, with high density "last-mile" metropolitan fiber networks in 15 of
Europe's leading cities. euNetworks was recently awarded the prestigious
title of "Best New Entrant" by leading telecommunications publication,
Capacity Magazine. The award was granted to euNetworks following their
acquisition of a pan-European fiber network thus extending their unique
proposition of delivering private fiber networks -- an offering the judges
felt is of immense value to large corporations and carriers alike. euNetworks
is a member of euro-one -- a unique collaboration fiber-optic network
providers to deliver infrastructure and next generation networking solutions,

Eighty thousand students take courses offered by the CNAM throughout France, and nearly 2,000 staff, instructors and administrative personnel contribute to the success of this institution.
The security of its network is therefore essential. The CNAM needs to effectively manage its activities and provide the expected computer services to its students and staff. Its original security solution was difficult to maintain as it was based on restricting access at the equipment level. It was the source of errors and required a full-time employee to manage it. "Every six months, we found ourselves under attack," explained Denis Coree, DSI (Director of Computer Systems), CNAM. "Our IT system was hit hard and we experienced service interruptions for nearly a week. However, with the global overhaul of our security, we have not experienced any interruptions. Using DefensePro has enabled us to stop attacks before they even get through to our IT system."
Radware's DefensePro solution provides protection against intrusion and DoS attacks at the application-, network- and server-levels. Using behavioral analysis, it works from the core of the network through to the perimeter - all without human intervention. The bandwidth management and access control features enable traffic filtering which guarantees the availability and level of service necessary for critical applications.
"By blocking illegal incoming traffic, we can avoid bottlenecks and increase productivity," Denis Coree emphasized. "This security solution, which was deployed a year ago, has met all of our expectations. The support and understanding provided by Radware's teams was flawless throughout deployment."
Radware's DefensePro solution was deployed at the CNAM to:
- Protect applications: signature analysis includes the protection of web servers, messaging services, database services, VoIP infrastructure components and the protection of workstations against Microsoft weaknesses such as worms, spyware, bots, Trojan horses, etc.;
- Analyze network behavior: provides advanced zero-day protection against known, unknown and DoS attacks, and blocks the propagation of zero-day attacks. The method of detection is based on the behavioral analysis of user traffic and maintains business continuity even when the network is under attack;
- Analyze application behavior (at the network level): DoS and HTTP flooding attacks are identified and mitigated using behavioral analysis. Attacks are blocked without blocking legitimate user traffic.
The CNAM also uses reporting and monitoring capabilities which increase visibility of the blocked attacks in real-time and control network security by adjusting protection at the network layer. Combined with APSolute Insite the solution provides historical attack and strategic reports.

"This is an important relationship on so many levels. Working with Nokia means we are easily able to reach a huge number of mobile users, including customers of all S60 licensees. This is a significant step in gaining broad acceptance for Silverlight and ensuring it is platform agnostic. This is critical since we want to make sure developers and designers don't have to constantly recreate the wheel and build different versions of applications and services for multiple operating systems, browsers and platforms," said S. Somasegar, Senior Vice President of Microsoft's Developer Division.
"There is clear market demand for rich, Web-based services across a variety of device types, but developing these can often be commercially difficult. that its dual-processor (DP) SuperBlade(TM) servers were recently chosen by
CERN (one of the world's largest research labs) for part of a significant
upgrade of its computing capacity for the new LHC (Large Hadron Collider)
project in Geneva. High computational performance, excellent scalability,
superior energy efficiency and a competitive price/performance ratio were key
factors in this prestigious selection process.
"Our success on previous CERN projects, coupled with Supermicro's
industry-leading blade server technology, enabled us to distinguish ourselves
from the competition," said Charles Liang, CEO and president of Supermicro.
"Ideal for HPC clusters and data centers, Supermicro SuperBlade platforms
deliver unsurpassed performance, computing density and energy efficiency,
which saves operational costs (lower total cost of ownership) and also helps
preserve our environment for future generations."
"As one of the world's leading international research centers, we are
always looking to meet an ever-growing demand for computing performance,
striving for maximum performance over total cost of ownership," said Helge
Meinhard, coordinator for server and storage procurements, of CERN. "This is
even more true this year when the LHC will start operating and producing an
estimated 15 Petabytes of data each year that need to be processed. With
these blade server platforms, we can efficiently realize a significant
increase in computational power while minimizing our operational costs."
This latest CERN project deploys 210 Supermicro SuperBlade servers
equipped with Intel(R) Xeon(R) Quad-Core processors. These servers feature
Supermicro's industry-leading high-efficiency (93%(i)) power supplies, which
help significantly increase overall system power savings.
As with some previous CERN projects, Supermicro worked closely with E4
Computer Engineering S.p.A., a highly respected supplier of major Italian and
European computation and scientific research centers. Together with the
supply of some storage systems, the monetary value of this order exceeds one
million Euros, and it also means that E4 has now provided over 1500 total
servers to CERN.
"We are proud to work with Supermicro to provide its SuperBlade solutions
to CERN, one of the world's largest and most established centers for
scientific research," said Vincenzo Nuti, CEO of E4 Computer Engineering.
"Supermicro's blade technology is among the best in the world, our
partnership with them has already achieved great results and I am sure that,
thanks to the combination of E4's know-how and Supermicro's technology, we
will continue to obtain extraordinary outcomes."

The Hotel Terra Jackson Hole is an independent hotel under development in two phases and will offer 132 rooms upon completion. Phase one will see 72 guest rooms go live in the spring of 2008, phase two will see another 60 rooms in 2010. In addition, Hotel Terra Jackson Hole is the first in a planned worldwide collection of eco-friendly hotels, all branded Hotel Terra. The OneView(TM) Media solution designed by Guest-Tek for the Terra Resort Group is capable of supporting all phases of development, allowing the new rooms to be added onto the system as they are ready to go live. While the network has been designed for the final capacity, the ability to provide a different look and feel for the different hotels was of significant interest to Terra Resort Group as well. Hotel Terra Jackson Hole is being designed to leverage the Internet protocol (IP) network deployed by Guest-Tek to reduce energy usage through the networking of thermostats in the guest rooms.
"We are seeing more hotels choosing an entertainment provider based on quality and quantity of HD programming being offered to the guest. We believe this is why hotel chains and resort management groups like Terra Resort Group are choosing Guest-Tek's OneView(TM) Media products," said Arnon Levy, CEO of Guest-Tek. "In addition we are pleased to see our technology give hoteliers new tools to reduce energy consumption and support 'green' operating principles within their hotels."
"Guest-Tek's OneView(TM) Media provides a level of service for television that our guests have come to expect," said Ryan Zalta, Director of Internet Technology for Terra Resort Group. "Top quality HD programming is what our guests have in their homes; Guest-Tek's OneView(TM) Media now allows us to provide a comparable experience for them inside our hotel. The ability for the system to accommodate the future hotels and support different branding for those hotels made the investment even more compelling for us."
Guest-Tek's OneView(TM) Media system provides for the delivery of digital content securely over Internet Protocol (IP) using industry standards for conditional access and content encryption featuring Advanced Encryption Standard 128-bit encryption technology, as well as aiding content protection from piracy with session-based forensic watermarking. The additional value of this technology provides flexibility through a software-based approach to content protection supporting easy renew-ability, revocability, and even complete replacement - instead of costly and inflexible hardware based solutions that are dependent upon proprietary embedded hardware in the television.
