EMC Named Leader in Storage Software for Eighth Consecutive Year
HOPKINTON, Mass., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation , the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, was the market share leader in storage software for the eight consecutive year in 2007 and led the worldwide storage software market in total revenue for the 20th consecutive quarter, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker, March 2008. [a]
For both the full year and the fourth quarter of 2007, EMC led in four storage software categories, including storage replication, storage device management, storage infrastructure and storage management. In the storage device management software segment in 2007, EMC grew revenue to almost six times the revenue share of its closest competitor. In addition, EMC grew revenue by almost 19%, year-on-year, in the data protection and recovery software segment for the full year, outpacing the market and grabbing share from the market leader.
According to EMC, the company achieved 20% annual growth in software license and maintenance revenue during 2007, when combining its storage software market leadership and other areas of software leadership like virtualization, enterprise content management and archive, resource management and information security. Software made up approximately 40% of EMC's overall revenue for 2007.
"EMC has never been better positioned to provide customers with the most complete portfolio of information infrastructure solutions," said BJ Jenkins, EMC's Senior Vice President, Global Marketing. "By combining innovation with execution and integrating game-changing technologies -- like data de-duplication, security and continuous data protection -- EMC continues to make it easier for customers to digest new technologies. Together, our market leading storage systems and services portfolio with our wide range of software technologies helps customers of all sizes store, protect, add intelligence to, virtualize and automate their information infrastructures."
Additionally, EMC announced on March 6, 2008 that it was the #1 provider of external disk storage systems for the tenth consecutive year in 2007, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, March 2008. [b]

WhiteHat Security and F5 Team to Battle Attacks against Enterprise and Ecommerce WebsitesWhiteHat Sentinel and F5 BIG-IP Application Security Manager Integrate via F5's iControl API; Customers Achieve Dynamic Vulnerability Assessment, Detection and Remediation for Total Website Security and PCI Compliance
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and SEATTLE, March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WhiteHat Security and F5 Networks, Inc. today announced a partnership agreement. The partnership yields a uniquely powerful and efficient solution that provides organizations with a new means of combating the onslaught of website attacks that place customer and corporate data at risk. F5's open iControl(R) API provides the integration between WhiteHat Sentinel, the industry-leading website vulnerability management solution, and the award-winning F5(R) BIG-IP(R) Application Security Manager(TM) (ASM(TM)) Web application firewall. As part of this agreement, WhiteHat has also joined F5's Technology Alliance Program.
"The integrated solution brings the entire industry to a new level of website protection, with extreme accuracy and efficiency," said Stephanie Fohn, chief executive officer, WhiteHat Security. "Customers have been waiting for a solution that delivers rapid identification and immediate repair of vulnerabilities. The F5-WhiteHat alliance makes complete website security simpler than ever for the end-user."
The Solution Elements
A Web-based subscription service, WhiteHat Sentinel combines advanced proprietary scanning technology with expert analysis, enabling customers to identify, prioritize, manage and remediate website vulnerabilities as they occur. F5's ASM provides proactive network and application-layer protection from generalized and targeted attacks by understanding the user interaction with the application. Through the F5 iControl API, WhiteHat Sentinel will be able to directly configure policies on F5's ASM to protect against vulnerability exploits (e.g., Cross-site Scripting, SQL Injection) found during the scanning process.
Achieving PCI Compliance 6.6
The combined solution from WhiteHat Security and F5 fully meets requirement No. 6.6 (develop and maintain secure systems and applications) of the PCI compliance standards developed by VISA, MasterCard and other major credit card companies. According to the standard, an organization must do at least one of the following to meet this requirement:
-- Undergo application scanning and code review by an application
security specialist; or,
-- Install a Web application firewall in front of the Web-facing
applications.
This partnership enables customers to achieve both requirements in just one step.
Existing customers of both WhiteHat and F5 will benefit from the partnership immediately through the ability to leverage their investments with the added security and automation of the combined solution. The Sentinel-ASM integration simplifies and speeds vulnerability remediation by finding the problem, and then fixing it through "virtual patching." Developers also gain more time to fix code without leaving applications exposed. Customers will benefit through:
-- Increased protection via WhiteHat Sentinel's rapid identification of
Web application vulnerabilities, with minimal false positives;
-- Highly targeted vulnerability remediation (virtual patching) via ASM;
-- Simplified management: Data is continuously filtered and validated to
provide only actionable results; and,
-- Ease of operation: A simple interface with one-click remediation.
"Our partnership with WhiteHat elevates ASM, allowing us to offer a more comprehensive website security solution using trusted data from an industry leader," said Ken Salchow, senior technical marketing manager, F5. "ASM's integration with Sentinel offers our customers immediate time and cost savings. With the ability to apply a 'virtual patch' to their sites, they can effectively mitigate the most pressing risks with confidence and address the root issues as time and budgets allow. That type of flexibility and security assurance is quite rare in this industry."
Availability
The F5 ASM and WhiteHat Sentinel integration will be generally available in CYQ2 2008. Existing customers who have both WhiteHat Sentinel Service and F5 ASM with an active maintenance contract will receive integration automatically. F5 ASM customers will need to subscribe to the Sentinel Service. All WhiteHat customers will have access to F5 ASM integration capabilities as a new feature in both Sentinel SE and PE, but will need to purchase an F5 ASM to take advantage of the integration.

Global Med Technologies(R), Inc. Delivers Record Q4* and Year End Revenues and ProfitsQ4 and Year End Cash Flows Over $1 Million and $4.4 Million Respectively**
DENVER, March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Med Technologies(R), Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: GLOB) ("Global Med" or the "Company"), an international e-Health, medical information technology company, today reported record revenues and profits for both the fourth quarter* and the year ended December 31, 2007.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040226/GLOBALMEDLOGO)
Global Med's record revenues of $4.297 million for the fourth quarter of 2007 represent an increase of $619 thousand, or 16.8%, over the $3.678 million recorded for the comparable 2006 period. In the fourth quarter of 2007, operating income improved to $698 thousand from $513 thousand during the comparable 2006 period. The Company's record net income for the fourth quarter* of 2007 was $680,000, or $0.03 per basic common share outstanding, versus $364,000, or $0.02 per basic common share outstanding, in the comparable 2006 period.
The fourth quarter's results marked the 14th consecutive quarter of comparable quarter-to-quarter revenue growth for the Company.
Global Med's cash flows from operations for the fourth quarter of 2007 were $1.05 million, up from $215,000 recorded in the comparable 2006 period.
Recurring annual maintenance revenues for the quarter were running at a record annualized rate of over $7.5 million. Based on the backlog as of December 31, 2007, the Company's annual recurring revenues, when all contracted customer sites are implemented, will be approximately $8.7 million. The Company's backlog of unrecognized software license fees and implementation fees was $5.3 million.
As of December 31, 2007, the cash balance was $6.748 million, up from $2.554 million as of December 31, 2006.
For 2007, Global Med's record revenues reached $16.079 million, up $3.717 million or 30.1% from $12.362 million for 2006. Operating income in 2007 increased to a record $1.887 million from $808,000 in 2006. The Company's net income for this period was a record $1.978 million, or $0.08 per basic common share outstanding, versus $1.381 million, or $0.06 per basic common share outstanding, for 2006. However, during 2006, the Company recognized approximately $724,000 in non-cash gains associated with certain features of the Series A Convertible Preferred Stock until March 29, 2006, the date that such features were removed. Without these non-cash gains, net income in 2006 would have been $657,000, or $0.03 per basic common share outstanding. The Company believes it is important to deduct these non-cash gains in order to provide better comparability for the reader.
The Company's cash flows from operations were a record $4.421 million for 2007, up from $1.224 million in the prior year's comparable period. Cash flows for 2007 included the $1.004 million deposit in escrow that was returned to the Company in May 2007 as a result of an Appellate Court's reversal of a summary judgment. The Company also received an additional $80,000 in accrued interest as a result of the return of the deposit in escrow.
2007 Business Developments and Announcements:
-- Customer site base reached 686: 488 live sites and 198 backlog sites.

and the Company has received several orders for ElDorado Donor Doc and
has shipped ElDorado Donor to Children's Cancer Hospital in Egypt
through its relationship with Cerner.
-- Recurring maintenance revenue increased approximately $1.4 million to
approximately $6.9 million.
-- Owner's equity increased over $2.5 million to $2.9 million.
-- Global Med's PeopleMed, Inc. subsidiary began offering complete
validation and consulting services, primarily in the donor center and
hospital laboratory markets, to assist facilities with the transition
during software system implementation.
Michael I. Ruxin, M.D., Chairman and CEO of Global Med Technologies, Inc., commenting on the quarterly results, stated, "The Company had record revenues, operating income, profits, and cash flows for both this quarter* and the year ended December 31, 2007. Our revenues, recurring revenues from maintenance, and cash all continue to grow. Our goal is to have continued double-digit revenue growth for 2008 and annually thereafter. We continue to strive to become the global leader in medical blood bank information management. We are actively exploring complementary business acquisitions in the international arena that will help to further our mission."
Thomas F. Marcinek, the Company's President and COO, stated, "Global Med had its eighth consecutive quarter of profitability. Our revenues are at record levels and have grown rapidly. During February, we received 510(k) clearance from the FDA on our ElDorado Donor(TM) software product. This represents the second ElDorado product that has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA and complements our ElDorado Donor Doc(TM) product which received 510(k) clearance in May 2007. Both products are available for sale in the United States and internationally. The Company plans to submit additional products that would be 510(k) medical device pre-market submissions to the FDA for market clearance during 2008. We believe the introduction of these new products will fuel continued revenue growth and is a key element to achieve our business goal to become the world leader in our market segment."

$2M Texas Instruments Foundation gift endows engineering leadership position at SMU
DALLAS, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- A Texas Instruments (TI) Foundation gift of $2 million to SMU will endow the Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Engineering Education and the directorship of the new Caruth Institute for Engineering Education -- to be filled by a leader in science and technology. In naming Delores M. Etter as the first chairholder, SMU and Dallas have recruited an international figure to lead an effort that will have a lasting and vital impact on the U.S. and its economy.
TI Foundation contributions to SMU support ambitious programs that break through roadblocks to diversity and introduce a new wave of innovation into engineering education. These K-12 and early college programs will be greatly expanded within the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education, endowed in October with a $10.1 million gift from the W.W. Caruth Foundation at Communities Foundation of Texas. The new TI Foundation gift guarantees outstanding leadership for this new national institute by endowing the Distinguished Chair and directorship of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education.
"This new gift is yet another example of TI's leadership in finding solutions to challenges in education," said SMU President R. Gerald Turner. "With this endowment, the TI Foundation has enabled us to appoint a leader who brings with her extensive experience in education, public service and research -- a combination that uniquely suits the goal of advancing engineering education. We are grateful to the TI Foundation for its ongoing generosity in helping SMU to broaden opportunities for talented young people."
Etter will establish a high standard as the first Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Engineering Education and Caruth Institute director. She has served as both Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition and as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Science and Technology. Her Washington assignments in public service complement a distinguished academic career. She comes to SMU from the electrical engineering faculty of the U.S. Naval Academy, where she held the Office of Naval Research Distinguished Chair in Science and Technology. Etter earned her Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. Among her numerous honors and awards, she is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, the highest recognition that can be bestowed upon an engineer in this country.
Etter's own barrier-breaking career serves as a strong example for drawing young people into math, science and engineering careers they might otherwise have assumed were out of reach.
The Caruth Institute for Engineering Education is dedicated to increasing the number and diversity of students who graduate from U.S. high schools with both the enthusiasm and knowledge to pursue the engineering careers that are necessary for the U.S. to compete in a global economy. Geoffrey Orsak, dean of the SMU School of Engineering, warns that the U.S. could fall behind its international competitors without the targeted pursuit of math, science and engineering expertise that drove the space race of the 1960s.
"As we strive to increase the research portfolio among our faculty and the academic credentials of our students, the disciplines of engineering and science play a critical role," said Paul Ludden, SMU provost and vice president for academic affairs. "The new TI Foundation endowment enables us to add another distinguished scholar and leader to the faculty. As a professor, she will inspire our students, especially as SMU strives to reach gender parity in engineering education. As the Caruth Institute director, she will have an impact beyond campus by providing effective and proven curricula and programs to develop the next generation of engineers."
"Engineering education is critical to the future of our region and country. By funding the TI Distinguished Chair, the TI Foundation is helping build a center of excellence in Dallas for the delivery and assessment of K-16 engineering education programs," said Jack Swindle, chair of the Texas Instruments Foundation. "This aligns with the foundation's interests and supports the national effort to improve science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. We are excited about this opportunity to bring a nationally recognized figure to the area whose deep experience will help address this challenge."
Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison helped SMU establish what is now the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education in 2002 through a federal grant, and its programs immediately began changing the education landscape through Texas Instruments' sponsorship, including:
-- The Infinity Project: An award-winning high school and early college
math and science-based engineering program that helps teachers across
the U.S. make advanced math and science courses relevant and exciting
for high school students.
-- The Gender Parity Initiative: A nationally recognized program that
promotes interest in engineering and technology among girls and young
women.
-- Visioneering: An annual program that gives middle school students the
opportunity to play "engineer for a day."
"Texas Instruments continues its dedicated leadership to developing our future engineers," Orsak said. "Now, more than ever, we are dependent upon our ability to recruit and educate world-class engineers. Communication Intelligence Corporation Reports Fourth Quarter and Fiscal 2007 Results
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (BULLETIN BOARD: CICI) -- Communication Intelligence Corporation ("CIC" or the "Company"), a leading supplier of electronic signature solutions for the financial industry and the recognized leader in biometric signature verification, announced today its financial results for the fourth quarter and the year ended December 31, 2007.
Revenue for the three months ended December 31, 2007 increased 63% to $800,000, compared to $492,000 for the corresponding prior year period. The Company reported a net loss of $644,000, or $0.01 per share on 129 million weighted average shares outstanding for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2007, compared to a net loss of $881,000, or $0.01, on 107 million weighted average shares outstanding for the corresponding prior year period. The decrease in net loss is primarily due to an increase in revenue during the fourth quarter of 2007 compared to the corresponding period in 2006.
Revenue for the year ended December 31, 2007 was $2,145,000 compared to $2,342,000 for the year ended December 31, 2006. The decrease in revenues is primarily due to a decrease in maintenance revenues compared to the prior year period. Revenue for 2007 was primarily attributable to Access Systems of Americas, Inc. (formerly PalmSource, Inc.), Advanced Computer Technology, AEGON/World Financial Group, AIG/AGLA, Bank of America, Charles Schwab & Co., eCom Asia Pacific, Fidelity National Info Services/LSI, Fiserv/IntergraSys, IA Systems, Misys Healthcare Systems, Oracle Corporation, Prudential Financial Inc., Snap-on Credit LLC, Sony Ericsson Corp., Tennessee Valley Authority, and Wells Fargo Bank NA.
The net loss for the twelve months ended December 31, 2007 was $3,399,000, or $0.03 per share, on 114 million weighted shares outstanding compared to a net loss of $3,286,000 or $0.03 per share on 107 million weighted average shares outstanding for the corresponding prior year period. The increase in the net loss is primarily due to increases in interest expense and noncash amortization expense associated with debt financing and decreased revenue.
"As stated earlier fourth quarter revenue was up 63% over the corresponding prior year period, and up 75% over the prior quarter," stated CIC's Chairman & CEO Guido DiGregorio. "Although the fourth quarter of 2007 was significantly better than prior quarters, we did not achieve the orders we had anticipated. We experienced delays in closing several significant orders in the last half of 2007, with negotiations ongoing. The good news is that during 2007 many top tier financial institutions formed high level teams to evaluate enterprise wide solutions for the adoption of eSignature and document automation across the various business segments of these enterprises which affords CIC the potential for high revenue generating deployments. However, because these companies are typically highly compartmentalized, and run as separate profit and loss centers, they need and desire stages of deployment including proof of concepts (POC) and pilots to ensure a smooth and effective adoption process for the enterprise-wide rollouts. 2007 was a year of significant progress with top tier channel partners that provide eSignature based document and process automation solutions. We believe our focus on joint selling efforts and attaining embeds with these leading financial service solution providers is fundamental to capturing the lion's share of the eSignature market and fundamental to accelerating and sustaining our revenue growth. Our successful deployments with leading financial enterprises with proven ROIs, our multi-model enterprise class eSignature product suite that addresses face-to-face, call center and web applications, together with our co-destiny, integrated and non-competitive strategy with these leading solutions providers, we believe, has uniquely positioned CIC as the eSignature partner of choice. eSignature sales activity in the last half of 2007, as measured by the revenue potential reflected in formal proposal and quotation requests, was at the highest level in the Company's history. We have not experienced any change in the positive and increasing momentum in proposal activity from the financial services industry based on the current or forecasted economic environment. In fact, the mortgage/lending crisis is driving several major opportunities. We believe the benefits of the paperless enterprise, including significant expense reduction and the compressing of business processes, are viewed by financial enterprises as strong rationale to adopt our eSignature/automation technology. In October, 2007, Frost & Sullivan awarded CIC the 2007 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Leadership in the dynamic signature verification market. The Frost & Sullivan Award, the result of an in-depth analysis of the market by an experienced industry research team, speaks to the leadership and outstanding achievement CIC has exhibited in 'Excellence in Best Practices' used to recognize companies that have achieved superior performance in areas including leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development for the Worldwide Signature Verification Market."
For a fuller discussion of the progress made and the challenges CIC faces please refer to CIC's 2007 Annual Report on Form 10-K, which CIC expects to file on or before March 13, 2008.

Hifn Unveils Express DR 250/255 Card Family for Data De-Duplication AccelerationAn industry first, the card accelerates hashing, compression and encryption algorithms in hardware to off-load the heavy lifting functions and speed up performance
LOS GATOS, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hifn(TM) , the catalyst behind storage and networking innovation, today announced the addition of two new members of its Express DR card family, the Express DR 250 and 255, specifically designed to accelerate data de-duplication and data reduction applications. The Express DR 250/255 cards are the industry's first hardware accelerated data de-duplication cards.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070723/CLM036LOGO)
With today's geometric explosion of data volumes, keeping IT budgets from increasing requires redundant information in data files be reduced as much as technically possible. Hifn's Express DR 250/255 accelerator cards accomplish this goal in two ways: first, with built-in powerful and fast SHA-1 or MD5 hashing algorithms, and second, single-pass LZS 2.5:1 data compression (on average) with an optional encryption engine.
"Sustaining data rate performance is a challenge for many companies that attempt to deploy extensive data de-duplication solutions," said Richard Villars, Vice President, Storage Systems at IDC. "Solutions like Hifn's new Express accelerator cards will make it easier for data de-duplication solution suppliers to offer higher performance data de-duplication with the added bonus of data encryption."
The 250 Megabyte per second throughput of the Express DR 250/255 is ideally suited for IP SAN and NAS appliances running data de-duplication. The DR 250/255 family is offered in a full height PCI-X 64 bit slot or a low-profile, four-lane PCI-e form factor respectively. Express DR 250/255 cards also support a full complement of hardware-advantaged, data security and authentication function combined with AES 256 bit encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard), the strongest non-military cryptography available today, at over 250 Megabytes per second to support real-time protection of sensitive data. It also provides a high-quality hardware ANSI X9.17 random number generator.
"Hifn's Express DR 250/255 uses state-of-the-art security and data compression technology to enable the next generation of data reduction and de-duplication applications," said Greg Collins, CEO of Optica Technologies, a Louisville, Colo.-based developer of connectivity and security solutions. "The combination of these technologies with the PCI Express interface ensures market-leading features and high performance."
Data de-duplication can deliver data reduction that is more than an order of magnitude greater than traditional byte-oriented lossless data compression techniques alone. The remarkable level of data reduction represented by Hifn's DR 250/255 family can be achieved even with image and sound files that are not compressible using typical methods. The price of this level of data reduction is large amounts of computation, yet the Hifn Express DR 250/255 cards accelerate these time-consuming de-dupe computations.
"The expansion of our Express DR family with the DR 250/255 cards should greatly appeal to two customer groups: de-duplication ISVs looking to maximize their performance over software only algorithms and end-users who will be looking for appliances that include the acceleration card for performance gains and support of corporate green initiatives," said John Matze, vice president of business development at Hifn.
Pricing and Availability
The Express DR250/255 cards are available now, at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,195.00

Iomega Corporation Receives Unsolicited Acquisition Proposal and Determines That It is Not a Superior Proposal
SAN DIEGO, March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Iomega Corporation announced today the receipt of an unsolicited non-binding indication of interest from EMC Corporation , in which EMC indicated that it is prepared to offer to acquire the outstanding common stock of Iomega for $3.25 per share, assuming a total of approximately 54.8 million outstanding shares. Iomega's board of directors met on March 9, 2008, and unanimously determined that the proposal from EMC would not reasonably constitute a superior proposal within the meaning of the share purchase agreement between Iomega, ExcelStor Great Wall Technology Limited, a Cayman Islands company, and Shenzhen ExcelStor Technology Limited, a PRC company, from Great Wall Technology Company Limited, a People's Republic of China company, ExcelStor Group Limited, a Cayman Islands company, and ExcelStor Holdings Limited, a British Virgin Islands company (the "Selling Stockholders"). The Board reached its conclusion based upon valuation and the Board's view that the proposed due diligence contingencies were overly broad.
As previously announced, Iomega and the Selling Stockholders executed a share purchase agreement, dated December 12, 2007, in connection with a business combination. Iomega and the Selling Stockholders are in the process of preparing the required filings for obtaining the necessary regulatory and stockholder approvals for the business combination.

Synopsys Announces Multi-Core Initiative to Accelerate Design Time-To-ResultsVerification, Implementation and Manufacturing Solutions to Broadly Support Multi-core Processor Technologies in 2008
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Synopsys, Inc. , a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced its multi-core initiative to deploy advanced parallel, threaded and other optimized compute technologies across its Discovery(TM) Verification and Galaxy(TM) Design platforms, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) solutions. The initiative aims to enable integrated circuit (IC) design companies to easily maximize the throughput of their multi-core compute infrastructure to reduce time-to-results (TTR). This initiative builds on Synopsys' proven multi-processor and network-distributed electronic design automation (EDA) solutions, including the VCS(R) functional verification solution with native testbench technology for compute farms and the Proteus lithography solution offering near-linear scalability. Additional multi-core-enabled solutions will be delivered throughout 2008.
The combination of increasing IC complexity and shrinking semiconductor features is driving exponential demand for design and manufacturing-related compute resources. Synopsys' initiative addresses this demand by deploying advanced multi-core software and optimized information technology (IT) solutions that can deliver breakthrough productivity increases. The three key components of Synopsys' multi-core initiative to be delivered during 2008 are:
1. Galaxy Design Platform - the industry's most widely used implementation
solution, including Synopsys' Design Compiler(R) RTL synthesis
solution; IC Compiler comprehensive place-and-route solution; the
PrimeTime(R) suite for sign-off; Star-RCXT(TM) parasitic extraction;
TetraMAX(R) automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) and Hercules(TM)

Tektronix Introduces World's Only 'One Box' Serial Data Receiver Test SolutionSerialXpress(R) Software with the AWG7000 Simplifies Receiver Bit Error Rate (BER) Testing and Improves Design Productivity for Next Generation Serial Data Buses
BEAVERTON, Ore., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the availability of SerialXpress(R) http://www.tek.com/serial_data, an advanced new software package that performs direct synthesis of waveforms for high-speed serial data receiver testing, ideal for testing SATA, SAS, PCI-Express, HDMI, and DisplayPort serial data standards, as well as any other serial bus technology operating at speeds up to 6 Gbps. SerialXpress manages the creation of these waveforms for high-speed transmission on the AWG7000 Arbitrary Waveform Generator series. An easy to use interface provided by the SerialXpress software package makes the creation and management of high speed serial waveforms far more intuitive. The AWG7000 with SerialXpress software is the world's only one-box high-speed serial data signal generator for receiver stress and BER testing, eliminating the need for multiple instruments and complicated test configurations.
Next generation high-speed serial standards ranging from 3 to 6 Gb/s have diminishing timing margins that require receiver characterization to complement conventional transmitter testing. Increases in transmission speeds and trace length of transmission lines heighten the potential for errors in the signal path (channel). Engineers need to simulate these effects during the design phase to test the tolerance of their receiver designs. SerialXpress software provides these capabilities working in tandem with the AWG7000 arbitrary waveform generators through use of direct synthesis. Direct synthesis is a flexible and repeatable method for creating ideal or impaired waveforms incorporating periodic & random Jitter, pre/de-emphasis, channel emulation, Idle-states, and SSC parameters. This often eliminates the need for multiple test instruments such as sine wave generators, noise generators, power dividers and power combiners that not only complicate the entire test set-up but also require extensive calibration.
"SerialXpress is ideal for design and test engineers who need to perform validation and characterization of high speed serial data receivers and effectively obsoletes alternative methods using logic sources," said Mike Higashi, vice president, Signal Source Product Line, Tektronix. "Instead of needing to create mathematical formulas, the intuitive UI provided by SerialXpress software improves productivity through pre-defined, fill-in the blank templates for each of the major high-speed serial standards, facilitating simple and cost-effective receiver testing. With SerialXpress software, the AWG7000 is the easiest to use, most powerful and comprehensive high speed serial data signal generator for high-speed serial data technologies."
Engineers are able to simply recall a setup file that encapsulates all of the relevant standard mandated tests and signal impairments, without the need for any additional external components or mixing required, reducing complexity and cost. To replicate the test scenarios across multiple labs, AWG setup file deployment can be managed through electronic circulation of files, enabling test systems worldwide to have consistent settings and capabilities and with no external hardware dependencies.
Availability and Pricing
The SerialXpress software is currently available for order and runs as an integral part of the AWG5000 or AWG7000 models, or as a standalone application on an external PC. The U.S. MSRP for SerialXpress begins at $7,000.

Announced last fall, the AWG7000 is the only AWG fast enough for high speed serial data test with up to 20GS/s and the ability to generate data streams including imperfections such as noise and jitter for data rates up to 10Gb/s. With two analog channels and four marker outputs, the AWG7000 is capable of generating mixed-signal waveforms to provide for analog signals and digital control channels. For serial data, the high sample rate of the AWG7000 enables developers to create pre- and de-emphasis or multi-level signals such as four PAM (pulse amplitude modulation) without having to work with cumbersome external components and without wasting multiple output channels.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, the builder and owner of the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network, and Michael Eisner's independent new media studio, Vuguru, today announced "The All-For-Nots" will air on Verizon Wireless' V CAST Video service. "The All-For-Nots," Vuguru's second original series, will debut tomorrow on V CAST in the Music and Showcase categories on V CAST Video- enabled phones. "The All-For-Nots" program, created by Thom Woodley and Kathleen Grace of Dinosaur Diorama, is an original Internet comedy series that follows a documentary crew filming a fictional indie rock band called "The All-For-Nots" as they travel the U.S. on an under-funded and poorly planned tour. "The All- For-Nots" will visit 24 cities on the band's U.S. tour during each of the seven- to 10-minute episodes in the series.
"Verizon Wireless' V CAST service is a clear leader in the mobile video space and partnering with them for the second time on an original Web series was an objective from the very start of this production," said Michael Eisner. "Short-form video is a popular source of entertainment for young, early adopters of new media, and that feature of 'The All-For-Nots' makes it perfect for viewing on a mobile platform."
Weekly episodes of "The All-For-Nots" series will be available on V CAST Video through August 2008, and will include documentary-style narratives, concert footage from the band, and interviews with fans and special guests.
Customers with select V CAST-enabled phones can check out V CAST whenever they want for just $3.00 for 24-hour use or by signing up for the $15.00 V CAST VPak monthly subscription, which also includes access to Verizon Wireless' ESPN MVP, Get It Now(R) and Mobile Web 2.0(SM) services. Customers get unlimited basic video -- including "The All-For-Nots" -- but application download fees apply for 3D games and premium video. Acro's revolutionary patented peroxide explosive tester - ACRO-P.E.T. - is an innovative, pen-like device that can identify peroxide-based explosives, such as triacetone triperoxide (TATP), which may appear in a variety of shapes and forms, including liquid explosives. Peroxide-based explosives are almost impossible to identify, since they do not contain nitro groups and are colorless.
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) based on materials containing peroxide have increasingly been used in recent years by various terrorist organizations. The main reason is that such peroxide-based explosives can be easily "home-made" using inexpensive, readily available starting materials that can be purchased in most hardware and paint stores, even in bulk quantities.
ACRO-P.E.T. has been designed for rapid, onsite detection of peroxide-based explosives. Its main advantages include high sensitivity, high selectivity, fast response, simple operation, small size and cost effectiveness.
ACRO-P.E.T.is part of Acro's new ACRO-SET kit which includes also ACRO-N.E.T. (Nitro Explosive Tester) - an explosive detector for military and commercial explosives, capable of identifying the majority of explosives currently in use, such as TNT, Tetryl, TNB, picric acid, dynamite, RDX, PETN, nitrocellulose smokeless powder, C4, Semtex, and others. In addition to military and commercial explosives, ACRO-N.E.T. can detect homemade explosives based on nitrate.
