SAN ANTONIO, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. today announced the launch of a unique contest for full-time college students and staff to develop innovative and creative mobile applications that enhance academic performance, build campus community and help to improve campus security operations.
Called the Big Mobile On Campus Challenge, the contest is open to all full-time students and full- or part-time staff at a four-year public or private accredited, nonprofit college or university in the continental United States. Entrants must be 18 or older and legal residents of the continental U.S.
"Life at light speed is an everyday routine for most college students, whether they are rushing to class, cramming for a test or hanging out with their friends," said Bill Archer, chief marketing officer for AT&T Global Business Services. "Big Mobile On Campus Challenge is a way to encourage some of the brightest minds at our colleges and universities to develop the next great mobile applications to help students be more productive, as well as enhance their lifestyle."
The contest opens April 1, 2008, and closes Aug. 31, 2008. After a judging period in September, the winner will be announced in October and receive a $10,000 scholarship -- given to an individual or divided among the team members who developed the application -- at the EduCause Annual Conference Oct. 28 - 31, 2008, in Orlando, Fla.
If a staff member wins the award as an individual or is on the winning team, she or he will receive cash compensation. The winner(s) will also receive a device of choice for each entrant and an all-expense-paid trip to EduCause.
The Big Mobile On Campus Challenge seeks applications in three categories: social networking, academics, and safety and security. AT&T will choose three finalists in the three categories and then pick the top three overall. The two runners-up -- either as an individual or team -- will receive a $5,000 scholarship and device of choice for each entrant.
The contest is just one example of AT&T's efforts to bring new and exciting applications and services to its wireless customers. This week at CTIA -- the wireless industry's annual conference -- AT&T is holding its third annual Fast-Pitch program, in which more than 100 wireless developers present new applications for consideration to be placed on AT&T's network.
Last month, AT&T introduced a new Web site, http://www.att.com/choice, that brings together -- for the first time -- detailed, easy-to-navigate information on the extensive choices that AT&T offers to consumers and businesses in handsets, applications and much more. It also features innovative, industry-leading resources for developers of wireless applications.
In a competitive analysis of the developer relations programs of major wireless carriers and device manufacturers published last year by Evans Data Corp., AT&T ranked first among carriers for its overall program.

CINCINNATI, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Timothy E. Stautberg, who for nearly 10 years has served as The E. W. Scripps Company's primary liaison with institutional investors and financial analysts, will become chief financial officer and a senior vice president of the company when its pending separation is completed later this year.
In his new role, Stautberg will have oversight responsibility for the company's accounting, treasury, tax, risk management, investor relations and information technology functions. He also will take a lead role in strategic planning for the media company, which, after the separation, will focus on local print, television and Internet businesses. Today, that includes daily newspapers, broadcast television stations, their local Web brands, and a subsidiary that licenses and syndicates comic strips and other creative properties.
"Tim Stautberg is a key member of the Scripps management team, participating at the highest levels in our strategic planning processes. He has a battle-tested understanding of what it takes to change and evolve businesses while, at the same time, continue to succeed economically," said Rich Boehne, who will become president and chief executive officer of Scripps after the separation. "His solid background as a manager of media companies, coupled with his experience in the worlds of finance and investor relations make him the very best choice for our lead financial role."
Stautberg, 45, will succeed Joseph G. NeCastro, who will become executive vice president and chief financial officer of Scripps Networks Interactive Inc., the new company that will be created in the separation transaction.
Scripps announced in October 2007 that its board of directors had unanimously authorized management to pursue a separation of Scripps into two publicly traded companies, one focused on national and global brands and the other focused on local media businesses. The separation is expected to be completed by July 1.
Stautberg has served as The E. W. Scripps Company's vice president of communications and investor relations since 1999. In that role he has had oversight responsibilities for the company's internal and external communications functions, including serving as liaison with institutional investors and financial analysts.
During his tenure as the company's investor relations officer, Scripps was recognized nationally in 2005 and 2006 for excellence by IR Magazine, a trade publication for investor relations professionals. The company also was recognized in 2007 and 2008 as one of "America's Most Shareholder Friendly Companies" by Institutional Investor.
Stautberg joined Scripps in 1990 as part of the company's executive development program. In 1992, he was assigned to work at the Scripps newspaper in Denver, the Rocky Mountain News. While in Denver he managed the newspaper's alternate delivery subsidiary and was responsible for newsprint and circulation accounting. As assistant to the publisher at the Rocky Mountain News from 1995 to 1997, he was responsible for strategic and financial planning. He also guided the creation of the newspaper's new media department and early development of its Web site.
In 1997, Stautberg was named vice president and general manager of the Record Searchlight, the Scripps newspaper in Redding, Calif. As general manager he led the newspaper's business operations and was responsible for sales, marketing, production, distribution, finance and administration. He returned to Cincinnati in 1999 to take on the corporate communications and investor relations role.
Stautberg has a bachelor's degree in economics from Kenyon College and a master's degree in business administration, with a specialization in finance, from The University of Chicago.
After graduating from Kenyon and while earning his MBA, Stautberg worked five years as a commercial banking officer for Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago.
Stautberg's current community involvement includes serving as president of Cincinnati's May Festival Association board of trustees; treasurer for the Beech Acres Parenting Center board of trustees; and trustee for the Center for Economic Education and Research at the University of Cincinnati.
The E. W. Scripps Company is a diverse and growing media enterprise with interests in national cable networks, newspaper publishing, broadcast television stations, interactive media, and licensing and syndication.
The company's portfolio of media properties includes: Scripps Networks, with such brands as HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, Fine Living and Great American Country; daily and community newspapers in 15 markets and the Washington-based Scripps Media Center, home to the Scripps Howard News Service; 10 broadcast TV stations, including six ABC-affiliated stations, three NBC affiliates and one independent; Scripps Interactive Media, including leading online search and comparison shopping services, Shopzilla and uSwitch; and United Media, a leading worldwide licensing and syndication company that is the home of PEANUTS, DILBERT and approximately 150 other features and comics. The E. MINNEAPOLIS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of their ongoing efforts to help consumers recycle electronic devices in an environmentally sound manner, Sony Electronics Inc. and Waste Management (WM) Recycle America are encouraging Minnesota residents to take action and recycle their old electronics on Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm both days. The electronics recycling drive, which spans five sites over two days, is forecast to be the largest in Minnesota history. Waste Management and Sony Electronics, in association with Best Buy, are sponsoring these recycling events in honor of Earth Day.
Locations for the event were carefully selected to provide residents with the most convenient drop-off location options. Each resident who recycles an old electronic device at one of these events will receive a discount coupon to attend EarthFest, A Party for the Planet, on the following weekend, April 19th and 20th at the Minnesota Zoo in Eagan, Minn.
Minnesota residents will be able to drop off their used electronics, at no charge, at any of the following locations:
Canterbury Park Racetrack Shakopee 1100 Canterbury Rd South, Shakopee, MN 55379 Minnesota State Fair Grounds St. Paul 1265 North Snelling Ave. St Paul, MN 55108 National Sports Center Blaine 1700 105th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55449 Grace Church Eden Prairie 9301 Eden Prairie Rd, Eden Prairie, MN 55347 Ecolab Schuman Campus (Saturday Only) Eagan Building F, 655 Lone Oak Dr, Eagan, MN 55121
All events are open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, unless otherwise noted.
More information about the events, including maps and a complete list of acceptable materials, can be found at http://www.wmtwincities.com/electronic.
"We intend to lead the industry in environmental stewardship by providing consumers with end-of-life solutions through our "Take Back Recycling Program" and these special electronics recycling events," said Mark Small, vice president of environment, safety and health for Sony Electronics.
By working with Sony on these special events, Waste Management is helping consumers properly manage their old electronics.
"People are seeking services to help them recycle electronic waste responsibly and economically," said Julie Ketchum, director of government affairs for Waste Management. "We hope to collect as much recyclable material as possible through this free event. It is our way of demonstrating a shared commitment with the community, by providing outstanding customer service and environmental stewardship."
Waste Management has been collecting electronics in Minnesota for more than 10 years and has the largest electronics-recycling infrastructure in Minnesota, with 21 permanent e-waste collection sites across the state.
"Waste Management has unequaled experience with e-waste drop off events," said Joe Aho, senior manager of eCycling, WM Recycle America. "This series of e-waste events will be the largest and most comprehensive ever in the state of Minnesota, and the team is prepared to make them event extremely convenient and easy for people who want to recycle their used electronics."
The amount of e-waste is on the rise and managing the issue is becoming increasingly crucial as the FCC-mandated switch to all digital TV signals in February 2009 nears. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, two million tons of e-waste ended up in landfills in 2005, while only about 380,000 tons were recycled. By recycling old electronics products, useful materials -- such as glass, plastic and metals -- can be collected and re-used in the manufacture of other products.
The upcoming events are part of Sony's ongoing Take Back Recycling program. Additionally, here in Minnesota Best Buy is providing financial support and views these events as an extension of its ongoing commitment to encourage consumers to take action with e-waste. A complete list of permanent WM Recycle America eCycling Drop-Off Centers can be found at http://www.wm.com/sony/ or by calling 877-439-2795.

LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Linksys(R), a Division of Cisco, and the recognized leading global manufacturer of voice, wireless, and networking hardware for home, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and the small business user, today expanded its portfolio of products created for mobile operators with the introduction of the Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G Router with Two Phone Ports (WRTU54G). Designed specifically to meet the growing needs of mobile operators, the new router is the first in the Linksys by Cisco product family to bring Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA), an IP-based protocol, to support operator deployment of fixed and mobile services over a common infrastructure. The new device meets the desire from consumers for flexibility in selecting the voice services and devices for their unique lifestyles.
The WRTU54G provides operators with a cost-effective and deployable fixed mobile convergence (FMC) solution. At its core, the WRTU54G is a standard Linksys Wireless-G broadband router, but it adds two phone jacks, two internal SIM card slots for multiple phone lines and UMA client software. T-Mobile USA, Inc., is offering its customers the unique benefits of the WRTU54G with its T-Mobile @Home(R) service, currently available in Seattle and Dallas test markets.
"Linksys and Cisco are redefining the mobile experience with this new UMA Wireless-G router by delivering a powerful, yet cost-effective solution that engages customers with the benefits of fixed mobile convergence applications," said Tony Wan, director product marketing, Linksys. "The development of the WRTU54G exemplifies our commitment to service providers that goes beyond developing customized solutions by leveraging the benefits our organization and brand bring in assisting with every level of their go to market strategy."
Additional features that make the WRTU54G ideal for service provider integration include:
-- Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (UAPSD) -- By replacing existing router products with the WRTU54G router, users reap the benefit of improved mobile phone battery life(1) when the phone is connected to the home network over Wi-Fi. -- Simplified Security -- The WRTU54G includes a pre-standard version of Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) for improved ease-of-use via simplified pairing of handset to access point. This consumer-friendly security functionality will evolve to include the same Linksys WPS feature-set found in existing products without having to enter cumbersome WEP keys. -- GSM capability over IP -- By partnering with UMA market leader Kineto Wireless(R), the Linksys by Cisco WRTU54G router enables analog phone traffic to be carried over IP back to the operator's network. This expands the mobile operator's capability to not only use the network to service mobile calls but could also use the same network to deliver landline calls for a truly converged service. Adding to the Service Provider Fold
T-Mobile USA is the latest addition to a strong base of relationships between Linksys and Cisco and leading service providers such as AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and Vodafone. Linksys is dedicated to working closely with service provider partners to develop effective solutions that meet their business needs.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Confirming that romance knows no boundaries, the five finalists of Princess Cruises' "Are You The Greatest Romantic?" video contest include a grandmother married 40 years, a minister and father of five, couples married only a few years and a hopeless romantic just getting serious with his love. The finalists were selected by the line's Department of Romance, and the public can now vote for their favorite entry. The largest number of votes will determine who is crowned "The Greatest Romantic," which will be announced on April 15.
Nearly 100 videos were submitted in the contest, which began on Valentine's Day, and the entries were judged by Princess' Department of Romance members which include actor Gavin MacLeod, "The Love Boat's" "Captain Stubing;" Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the always-provocative couples therapist; Alex Michel, the first "Bachelor" on ABC's hit show; Trish McDermott, vice president of love at Engage.com; and Lisa Light, destination wedding expert and author. The panel selected the five videos they felt embodied romance, along with creativity and originality.
"We were so impressed by the wonderful, romantic videos people submitted," said Gavin MacLeod, who charted a course through 10 years of TV love stories. "I was particularly moved by the heartfelt emotion that went into the entries, and it's quite evident that the finalists give real meaning to incorporating romance into their everyday lives."
The public now has the chance to log onto http://www.princess.com/romance and vote for their favorite entry. The finalist with the most votes will join the Princess' Department of Romance for one year and be featured on the company's website offering their sage romantic advice through articles and a special podcast. The winning romantic will also receive a seven-day cruise for two to the Mexican Riviera or the Caribbean. Additionally, one lucky person will win a seven-day cruise just for voting for their favorite video.
"We're really excited about the enthusiastic reaction to our contest -- we not only received some fantastic entries but thousands of people visited the site to view and rate their favorites," said Jan Swartz, Princess senior vice president. "And now we hope that in the final stages of our search, people will be just as excited to help choose the person that represents the ultimate in romance."
The five finalist videos include:
"The Greatest Romantic???" -- Phil Roberts nominates himself with a creative and touching poem delivered by his 3-year-old daughter. The 37-year-old father and minister from Lexington, Ky., shares the ups-and-downs and joys of his nine-year marriage to his wife, and says that romance has always been the core of their relationship. Phil's wife, Lisa, always wanted to get engaged at the ocean, so he created a beach scene in his apartment in Ohio, complete with a thousand pounds of sand, stars in the sky and a fluorescent beach scene painted on the walls. Through a difficult delivery of quadruplets and the loss of a child, Phil has always put his love for Lisa before all others, making each day like a Princess cruise for her.
"Everyday the Greatest Romantic" -- Brian Krall of Manchester, N.H., nominates his wife, Irene, who makes romance a part of their daily life, slipping notes into his lunch to remind him how much she loves him and making simple things like a game night into a romantic night with candles, soft music and a bottle of wine. Brian and Irene met on August 26, 2005 and married exactly two years later. Brian suffers from a spinal disorder and is confined to a wheelchair, but that doesn't stop Irene from planning special getaways or evenings out or making the most of every day together.
"40 Years of Romance" -- Sixty-year-old Lydia Kimball Gibbons of Orem, Utah, nominates her husband Ted as "The Greatest Romantic." Lydia and Ted have been married nearly 40 years and have 12 children. Lydia proudly shares all the daily ways Ted romances her -- he's written her love poems almost every day of their marriage and not only constantly tells her how much he loves and appreciates her, he also shows her by making her scrapbooks, daily planners and photo collages of their children and grandchildren.
"Our Story - Ashley and Kacey Evans" -- Kacey Evans nominates himself, paying loving tribute to his wife, love and best friend, Ashley. In a vivid video display, Kacey shares the details of their courtship and love, and how every day is infused with romance -- from trips, to evenings at home to gatherings with friends. The Ramsey, Minn., couple have been together for more than five years and married for two.
"Practice Makes Romance" -- Hopeless romantic Justin D'Ambrosio details his pursuit and preparation for true love. From rehearsing romantic dance moves, to preparing candlelit dinners, to writing love poems (all with his dog), Justin has made sure he's readied his romantic skills for his true love, Erin, whom he began dating two years ago. Although an aspiring comedian, the 23-year-old, who recently relocated from Ohio to Jersey City, N.J., takes romance very seriously. He pursued Erin for several months before his romantic wooing paid off and she finally agreed to a date.
All five finalists will receive prizes packages including decadent chocolates from Godiva Chocolatier, pampering products from Princess' exclusive Lotus Spa and flowers from Teleflora.

SANTIAGO, Chile, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FIDAE AIR SHOW -- BLACK HAWK helicopters have been instrumental in rescue operations during Bolivia's recent floods, continuing more than two decades of service in Latin America. The BLACK HAWK helicopter is produced by Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. .
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20060403/SIKORSKYLOGO )
The BLACK HAWK helicopter's versatile platform is capable of performing a variety of missions. During the floods that have plagued Bolivia since November 2007, Brazil and Chile sent PAVE HAWK helicopters, a variant in the BLACK HAWK family, to assist with rescue and humanitarian efforts.
"The BLACK HAWK helicopter continues to be a familiar sight during natural disasters as they occur throughout the world. The severe flooding in Bolivia provides another example of this aircraft's life-saving value," said Sikorsky President Jeffrey P. Pino.
Perhaps the most familiar of all Sikorsky products, the BLACK HAWK helicopter has been flying in Latin America since the late 1980s. Among the first customers to purchase BLACK HAWK helicopters were the Colombian Air Force, the Brazilian Army and the Chilean Air Force. In addition, BLACK HAWK helicopters are serving in Argentina and Mexico. Regionally, the aircraft is used for a variety of missions including utility, troop transport, combat assault, armed escort, medical evacuation, and disaster relief.
"Sikorsky Aircraft is proud of the legacy that the BLACK HAWK helicopter has built, mission upon mission. With scheduled deliveries planned to Colombia, Mexico and Brazil, well over 100 BLACK HAWK helicopters will be serving in the region by the end of 2009. That is a strong validation of the value this helicopter provides, especially for all those people caught in natural disasters," Pino said.
BLACK HAWK helicopter derivatives today are serving 26 governments throughout the world in a diverse range of missions, from combat assault and peacekeeping to disaster relief and medical evacuation. Sikorsky is also introducing a BLACK HAWK model specifically designed, configured and assembled to provide good value to the international market. The S70i International BLACK HAWK(TM) Helicopter will be produced in Mielec, Poland, with deliveries expected to begin in 2011.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., based in Stratford, Conn., USA, is a world leader in helicopter design, manufacture and service. HARTFORD, Conn., April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- United Technologies Corp. today announced an extension of its corporate advertising campaign, known as "Cross Section," with a new long-copy, small-space format designed initially to run exclusively opposite the editorial page in targeted financial, business and thought leader publications. The new ads, which will begin to run Wednesday, April 2, and continue for 13 consecutive Wednesdays, provide a deeper, richer look into the sustainable processes, products and philosophy of United Technologies Corporation.
UTC's "Cross Section" campaign won IR Magazine's "Best Corporate Advertising" award in 2007.
Each small-space ad, which will feature the hand-drawn artwork of UTC products and technologies used in its current campaign, addresses important issues of the day from sustainability and leadership to innovation and quality. The ads feature statements by UTC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer George David, and UTC President and Chief Operating Officer Louis Chenevert.
"UTC has a richness and depth of performance seen most graphically in its 20 percent reduction of energy consumption since 1997 while doubling revenues during the same period," said Nancy T. Lintner, UTC vice president, communications. "The new long-copy ads allow UTC, through the vision and voice of our leadership, to provide a complete picture of the company's sustained commitment to performance."
The print ads encourage the reader to view additional material online at utc.com/leadership. This new Web site launches April 2.
"UTC has always brought big ideas to every place they do business," said Lee Garfinkel, chairman and chief creative officer, DDB New York. "This campaign allows us to demonstrate just how passionate UTC's leadership is about larger global issues as well as innovative technologies."
Additionally, UTC will expand its "Cross Section" advertising campaign later this month into China, with print ads in Beijing and Shanghai. DDB Worldwide, the New York-based advertising firm, developed both campaigns.
"The ads, adapted specifically for the China market, communicate the company's growth and presence in the country," Lintner said. "The campaign defines how UTC's energy-efficient products meet the fast growing needs of a rapidly urbanizing and increasingly environmentally-aware China."
UTC's China revenues last year exceeded $2 billion. UTC entered the Chinese market in 1888 thought its Otis Elevator unit.
DDB Worldwide's New York and Shanghai offices worked with UTC to modify U.S. "Cross Section" ads with regionally appropriate and culturally relevant details.
The ad campaign includes a new Web page, http://www.utc.com/curious/cn , and newspaper and magazine ads in Beijing and Shanghai.

LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ushering in the next generation of wireless broadband devices, Nokia today unveiled its newest Nseries device, the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet -- WiMAX Edition, Nokia's first device engineered to take advantage of new wide-area high-speed mobile WiMAX networks. This pocket-sized device lets consumers enjoy an open Internet experience, allowing for access to the full Internet without barriers, while on the go. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is the latest iteration of Nokia's popular line of Internet Tablet products. For the first time, the power and convenience of the Internet Tablet platform is combined with next generation wide-area wireless broadband capability, allowing users to easily and quickly access all of their favorite Internet services beyond local area hot spots. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is expected to be available in the United States during the summer of 2008 in areas where WiMAX connectivity is available.
WiMAX is a standards-based wireless broadband technology that delivers an open Internet experience similar to that of fixed broadband technologies with typical data download speeds of up to 2-4 Mbps per user with peak download speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Unlike current single point local area technologies like Wi-Fi which have a range of a few hundred feet, WiMAX networks consist of a number of interconnected base stations, each with a radius of up to 2-3 miles, that allow for handoffs from one base station to another as users move about a region or metro area. Additionally, WiMAX networks integrate technology designed to maximize the quality of service for each subscriber.
"By delivering the kind of open Internet experience that consumers previously only expected on a desktop PC, the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is a compelling example of how next generation broadband wireless technology will not only change the way people think about the Internet, it will change the very nature of the Internet itself," said Ari Virtanen, Vice President of Convergence Products for Nokia. "Much in the way that the evolution of the fixed Internet from dial-up to broadband enabled a host of new Internet services and changed people's expectations of what an Internet experience should be, the transition to a broadband Internet experience set free from the constraints of a fixed network will spark the next wave of new mobile Internet services, and will forever change the perception of what the Internet can be."
Along with a full featured web browser, powered by Mozilla, that takes full advantage of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition's large 4.13 inch touch screen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a variety of popular web-based services are also supported. Many of these applications can be found on Nokia's dedicated OS 2008 User Site. To keep connected while on-the-go, a number of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Instant Messaging (IM) clients are available, including Skype(TM), Google Talk(TM), and Gizmo5, which can also take advantage of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition's built-in web cam for video calls. A client for the popular Rhapsody online music service is also available, transforming the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition into a portable jukebox with millions of songs available to enjoy at a few taps of the screen. Beyond these well-known services, an active developer community has also emerged around the Linux-based Internet Tablet platform, creating additional applications -- from games to productivity tools.
A number of additional features further enhance the utility of the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition. With built-in GPS, the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition can easily transform itself into a fully featured personal navigation device, complete with real-time on-screen maps. An integrated media player and 2 GB of internal memory, expandable to a full 10 GB of memory with the addition of an optional microSD memory card, allows the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition to store and play back a large library of music and video content. When not in range of a WiMAX network, the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition can also access the Internet over Wi-Fi or via conventional cellular data networks by pairing to a compatible mobile phone via Bluetooth technology.
Also being introduced with the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is the newest Internet Tablet operating system. This new upgraded OS2008 introduces useful new features to the platform, including an enhanced e-mail client, support for Chinese character rendering in the browser and RSS feeds and Seamless Software Update functionality to eliminate manual software updates, making periodic updates of the operating system quick and easy. While standard on the Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition, current owners of Nokia N810 and N800 Internet Tablets with earlier operating systems will be able to upgrade their device to the revised operating system for free during the second quarter of 2008.

ATLANTA, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Equifax Inc. today announced the launch of Business Fraud Advisor(TM), a product that helps companies reduce fraud losses through business identity verification and fraud risk level segmentation. Commercial credit fraud is a growing problem, as shown by a recent Equifax national survey, which found that application fraud accounts for 65 percent of commercial fraud and is the most costly in terms of business impact.
The 2007 Equifax Commercial Fraud Defense Study also found that nearly 75 percent of businesses rely solely on credit reports to assess for fraud. With Business Fraud Advisor, which leverages LexisNexis information solutions, companies can validate the identity of a business and verify application data while simultaneously identifying applications with the highest likelihood of fraud. Leveraging extensive business identification data from LexisNexis information, the product easily integrates with a customer's existing acquisition processes so that users can verify the legitimacy of a business applying for credit or service.
"While the prevalence of identity theft among consumers has been known for a long time, commercial fraud has only recently emerged as a major issue," said Michael Shannon, president, Equifax Commercial Information Solutions. "Business Fraud Advisor was designed to help commercial businesses address this growing problem and reduce the potential impact of fraud on their bottom lines."
The Equifax study surveyed a broad and diverse sampling of commercial businesses spanning the financial services, utilities, telecommunications and other industries. Results showed that while commercial fraud has clearly grown, many organizations are still in the early stages of recognizing and addressing the problem. Among the key findings from the study were the following:
-- Less than 20 percent of financial institutions and nearly 25 percent of utilities companies are unaware of their financial losses from fraud. -- Approximately 40 percent of businesses use a fraud screening product. -- More than 50 percent of companies identify/categorize fraud based solely on confirmation of basic personal information.
As the study revealed, whether dealing with identity or application fraud, early identification is crucial to minimizing fraud losses. Business Fraud Advisor helps customers such as financial institutions, utility companies and telecommunications providers with early detection by enabling them to:
-- Verify the existence of a business; -- Target accounts that have been flagged with suspicious fraud attributes and require further investigation; -- Confirm the relationship between business and applicant; and -- Decrease potential for applicants to be flagged as fraudulent due to mis-keyed information.
Before an application is approved, Business Fraud Advisor searches multiple identification databases and sources from LexisNexis information solutions. Business Fraud Advisor then scores applicants based on the accuracy and validity of the data provided and delivers up to four fraud warning codes that indicate which factors influenced the score.
Business Fraud Advisor is part of Equifax's suite of commercial services that help companies evaluate, manage and grow their accounts. Equifax Commercial Information Solutions leverages the company's extensive data, customized scoring solutions and advanced analytics to help businesses make critical decisions. LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CTIA Wireless 2008, Booth #1948, Central Hall -- Qualcomm Incorporated , a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced that the Company's Gobi(TM) global mobile Internet solution is gaining broad industry support with more manufacturers, network operators and software suppliers announcing products and services for the growing Gobi community this week. Leading laptop vendors will be integrating Gobi into laptop models shipping in 2008, and several network operators-including T-Mobile International, Telefonica, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone-have either completed certification or are expected to do so this month, with others expected to follow throughout the year. Meanwhile, Fortune 500 companies have voiced their support for the Gobi solution, which offers enterprises a way to untether their workforces from Wi-Fi hotspots and keep them connected to high-speed Internet with increased flexibility in choosing a cellular service provider and multi-mode roaming capabilities.
"Even companies who didn't formerly consider themselves to have a global footprint are increasingly finding that having a mobile workforce is a necessity to staying competitive," said Carrie MacGillivray, senior research analyst at IDC. "Wi-Fi hotspots lack ubiquitous coverage for the mobile worker and make it difficult for many organizations to keep employees connected while traveling. Multi-mode cellular data access embedded in laptops offers increased flexibility and efficiency for mobile workers."
The embedded Gobi solution enables laptop computers and sub-notebooks to deliver global high-speed connectivity to users via both EV-DO and WCDMA/UMTS 3G cellular networks. With a Gobi-powered laptop, enterprise users will benefit from the worldwide high-speed data capabilities of cellular broadband networks, while IT managers can streamline their operations by leveraging a single hardware and software solution for all their nationwide and global branch office locations.
"Most enterprise and small business customers have been waiting for a solution like Gobi to make built-in 3G a standard feature in their notebook RFQs," said Robert Garry, director of sales at Ingram Micro. "Gobi solves this problem by providing a single worldwide mobile broadband solution for each notebook model. It also provides Ingram resellers with the carrier flexibility, international roaming and future-proof roadmap that they have been looking for to make notebook and sub-notebook built-in mobile broadband mainstream with their customers. We believe that Gobi has initiated the start of a mass market for built-in mobile broadband because it has removed the risks that IT managers had with single-mode 3G."
"For enterprise users, the need for secure and widely available access to the Internet has become more essential than ever -- a need that Gobi addresses with flexibility and efficiency," said Greg Raleigh, vice president of wireless connectivity for Qualcomm. "Built-in Gobi laptops and sub-notebooks will offer business IT managers and end users the advantages of flexible service options with enterprise-class security, GPS capability and a growing list of Gobi-compatible mobility software. The Gobi ecosystem provides IT managers with a reliable solution that addresses their global mobile broadband needs."
The growing list of mobility software developers and enterprise security software developers who will be offering Gobi-compatible products now includes Smith Micro Software Inc., Birdstep Technology ASA, Diginext B.V., Stonestreet One Inc., and Absolute Software.

LIAONING PROVINCE, China, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- China Sun Group High-Tech Co. (BULLETIN BOARD: CSGH) ("China Sun Group"), which through its majority-owned subsidiary Da Lian Xin Yang High-Tech Development Co. Ltd ("DLX") has the second largest cobalt series production capacity in the People's Republic of China ("PRC"), announced today that it has developed a new white steel filter that not only improves air quality in its production facilities by approximately 30%, but also limits the amount of cobalt oxide lost during production.
Cobalt oxalate is a raw material used in the formation of cobaltosic oxide. Under normal manufacturing conditions, 3.15 tons of cobalt oxalate may be transformed into approximately 1 ton of cobaltosic oxide. In the process of sintering, impurities turn into new oxides when exposed to air and are released through the exhaust system. China Sun Group's new white steel filter is located at the bottom part of the exhaust. This filter has a 600-meshwork and a water system. Once the newly formed oxide meets the water meshwork, it drops into a white steel deposit channel. The oxide can then be reclaimed and reused by heating it in a high temperature furnace. This filter may generate approximately 35% more renewable cobalt oxide from the production process.
"Exhaust is an inevitable byproduct of producing cobaltosic oxide. Our internal technical staff has created a white steel water circle filter that offers significant environmental and economic advantages over conventional exhaust systems. As a result, air quality inside our production facilities has improved by approximately 30%. Furthermore, it can also limit the amount of cobalt oxide material lost during production. Renewable cobalt material generated by using this filter can reach 35.3%, which converts to 12.5kg cobalt oxide for every 1 ton of cobaltosic oxide produced," said Bin Wang, Chief Executive Officer of China Sun Group. "Because we plan to produce 700 tons of cobaltosic oxide in 2008, the new filter may help us reduce wastage and decrease production costs significantly."
About China Sun Group High-Tech Co.
China Sun Group High-Tech Co. ("China Sun Group") produces anode materials used in lithium ion batteries. Through its majority-owned operating subsidiary, Da Lian Xin Yang High-Tech Development Co. Ltd ("DLX"), the company primarily produces cobaltosic oxide and lithium cobalt oxide. According to the China Battery Industry Association, DLX has the second largest cobalt series production capacity in the People's Republic of China. Through its research and development division, DLX owns a proprietary series of nanometer technologies that supply state-of-the- art components for advanced lithium ion batteries. Leveraging its state-of-the-art technology, high-quality product line and scalable production capacity, the company plans to create a fully integrated supply chain from the primary manufacturing of cobalt ore to finished products, including lithium ion batteries. SAN FRANCISCO, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Setting the stage for a better understanding of sender authentication as a technology to combat junk email, the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) has released a new white paper describing the practice as a foundation for protecting legitimate Internet mail. "Trust in Email Begins with Authentication" provides an overview of the technology by focusing on the standardized mechanisms in general use today, Sender Policy Framework (SPF), Sender IDentification Framework (SenderID), and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM).
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070124/CLW180LOGO )
"Authentication mechanisms can help distinguish legitimate email from spam. When used as part of a multi-faceted anti-abuse program, it is an important tool to help protect business brands from forgery and phishing attacks," said Dave Crocker, the MAAWG senior advisor who edited the paper and principal at Brandenburg InternetWorking.
Email authentication mechanisms are used to validate the identity of an email's sender, stifling would-be spammers who often forge the "From" field in an email message to avoid detection. The executive summary of the MAAWG paper provides an overview of how authentication can be used to protect email and is intended for general business managers. LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- In the opening keynote presentation today at the CTIA WIRELESS 2008 tradeshow in Las Vegas, Lowell McAdam, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless and this year's CTIA chairman, called the wireless industry a great American success story and urged public policy leaders to let the industry continue to compete.
Citing the industry's annual, multi-billion-dollar investment in network infrastructure and the 3.5 million Americans employed by the wireless industry, McAdam said, "In 25 short years, we have become a vibrant and significant growth engine for the U.S. economy. Ours is a story of innovation and the American competitive spirit at work."
McAdam noted the industry's track record of providing customers with a steady stream of high-tech products and services, and responding to their need for more minutes at lower cost, free weekends and keeping their numbers, to name a few consumer-friendly initiatives. Despite these successes, he cautioned, the dynamics of a competitive, customer-driven market could be altered dramatically.
"Our industry is at a critical crossroads as we enter our next 25 years," he said. "We cannot allow ourselves to be made into a 21st century version of a regulated utility. I believe this is a clear and present danger -- if our public policy leaders interfere and if our industry permits them to.
"To tamper with the formula that built this economic growth engine is very dangerous. Even as the economy has worsened in recent months, the wireless industry has continued as one of the few bright spots, creating jobs, investing in infrastructure, and launching exciting new products and services."
McAdam challenged wireless industry leaders to "un-invite" potential intrusion from regulators by getting rid of policies from the industry's early days that no longer make sense for customers, and by listening and responding more quickly to customers. Also, he said, the industry needs to embrace new entrants who will fuel the innovation engine, as they have already.
The potential of 4G technology, he said, will take the industry to new heights, generating growth and creating a future where consumers will routinely manage their home appliances wirelessly and remotely, or move content wirelessly across desktops, TVs and cellphones as networks converge.
"Wireless is proving to be one of the great communications and technology infrastructures of our time, an infrastructure that more than 85 percent of Americans rely on to stay safe, connected and productive," he said. "With industry leaders working together and customers driving the market, we can guarantee that our next 25 years will make our first 25 look like the on-ramp to a super technology highway."

LAS VEGAS, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Helping to propel large-scale mobile phone deployments by businesses, Microsoft Corp. today announced at CTIA Wireless 2008 the immediate availability of System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 and plans for a Microsoft Mobile Services Plan (MMSP) to be available from mobile operators worldwide. Together with Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1, the software and services provide the best solution for midsize and large businesses to manage and help protect Windows Mobile phones.
"With Microsoft's mobile solutions, businesses now have the power, control and flexibility over how they deliver information to their employees on the go," said John O'Rourke, general manager, Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft. "Together with our partners, we're helping enterprises extend their reach like never before."
Microsoft saw positive response to early trial programs for Mobile Device Manager. Companies across the financial, manufacturing and professional services industries also requested that mobile operators deliver a core set of software and services to help businesses meet their management needs.
A study conducted by Microsoft with large and midsize organizations showed businesses would like to move beyond their current mobile solutions to offer more sophisticated services. Mobile Device Manager meets their needs by offering the following benefits:
-- Features to manage phones with the same ease and flexibility as Windows-based PCs, addressing IT priorities for saving resources and protecting information -- Capability to help protect sensitive business files and e-mails, contacts and other information through file and storage card encryption on the phone should it be lost or stolen -- Ability to access more of the information mobile workers need for staying on top of their jobs via a mobile virtual private network, which provides security-enhanced access to company data and application updates over the air Mobile Services Plan Enriches End-to-End Experience
Today leading operators AT&T, O2, Orange, TaTa Teleservices Ltd. and Verizon Wireless announced they are in discussions with Microsoft to deliver the Microsoft Mobile Services Plan. MMSP is a set of core software and services that provides a uniform experience across Windows Mobile 6.1 phones, whether working with one or more operators, saving time and resources so companies can focus on other areas of mobility. Beginning later in 2008, operators plan to offer a subscription plan that will bring businesses the following:
-- A corporate-grade network and data plan to support enterprise applications and services to help people get work done with the responsiveness they expect from the network and the efficient use of battery power they want on their phones -- A package from mobile operators, including access rights to Mobile Device Manager as well as the advanced mobile management features of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1), Microsoft Services Premier Support and Software Assurance for Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Office Mobile running on Windows Mobile 6.1-based phones. Fast-Growing Network of Partners Open for Business
Responding to the opportunity created by Mobile Device Manager and complementing the MMSP, a large network of global partners are ready to integrate and deploy into existing systems as well as create custom solutions for businesses. Among the first companies that worked with Microsoft to support early trial programs are AT&T Inc., EDS, Enterprise Mobile, HP, O2, Orange, SAT Corp. and Verizon Wireless.
"Given AT&T's leadership in the Windows Mobile space, AT&T is excited that Mobile Device Manager is now a reality for our enterprise customers," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president, Marketing and Operations for AT&T's wireless unit. "Every day, mobile devices become more ubiquitous throughout the enterprise, and the need to securely manage those devices, data and applications is critical for IT organizations. Through our early adopter trials, our customers are responding positively to AT&T's deployment and optimization plans for Mobile Device Manager and are eager to adopt the first end-to-end wireless-focused enterprise solution that can maximize their investments in Microsoft technology."
A wave of Windows Mobile 6.1 phones and operator networks supporting Mobile Device Manager is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2008 from Alltel Wireless, ASUS, AT&T, HP, HTC Corp., i-mate, Intermec Inc., Motorola, O2, Orange, Palm Inc., Pantech, Samsung, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, Sprint, TaTa Teleservices Ltd., TELUS, Toshiba and Verizon Wireless.
Management Solutions for Every Business Need
Mobile Device Manager builds on the core set of security and management features provided by Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and complements the comprehensive deployment, updating and asset management capabilities of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. Mobile Device Manager is available through Microsoft Volume Licensing. Client access licenses will be available through existing volume licensing channels in areas where mobile operators do not yet offer the plan. In addition, Microsoft announced Windows Mobile 6.1, an update for its Windows Mobile software that includes new time-saving features, easier phone navigation and management, and increased security safeguards.
"People want a single phone that's flexible enough to meet their needs throughout their day, whether it's connecting to work or your everyday life," said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. Easily flag, delete or move groups of messages and keep track of conversations through threaded text messaging. Zoom in on text or pictures, or view an entire Web page at once. -- Help keep business information protected. Support for System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 helps administrators manage phones similarly to a Windows-based PC or access company data that may be behind a firewall; and support for Exchange Server 2007 SP1 advanced mobile policies helps businesses manage and administer security for phones while enabling people to find, share, and use information no matter where they are.
