Seagate(R) Cheetah(R) Drives Enter New Habitat - Self-Encrypting Hard Drives for Servers and Storage ArraysSecurity tools for mission-critical enterprise data drives the need for Seagate Cheetah 15K.6 FDE hard drives
SAN FRANCISCO, April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSA CONFERENCE -- Seagate Technology today introduced a new breed of hard drive, the Cheetah(R) 15K.6 FDE (Full Disk Encryption) disc drive family, the world's first self-encrypting hard drives for mission-critical servers and storage arrays. As part of the award-winning Cheetah family, the industry-standard in performance and reliability in data centers, the new Cheetah 15K.6 FDE hard drive now also encrypts data as well. And that encryption goes anywhere the hard drive goes -- whether it is moved, stored, or retired.
"The data breaches widely reported in the media generally focus on stolen laptops and PCs, but people forget about the staggering amount of information leaving the data center daily," said Sherman Black, senior vice president and general manager, Seagate Enterprise Compute Business. "Equipment and systems with hard drives inside are continuously being retired, relocated or repaired and there's often little thought given to properly disposing of the data they contain before they leave the data center. A recent investigation showed that 50% of the drives returned for servicing by customers contained readable sectors. If you assume that an average system's lifecycle is three to five years that suggests that more than 50 thousand enterprise drives are leaving data centers daily worldwide. If only half of those hard drives are readable, that's at least 2,500TB per day of exposed data available in the open market. The increasing flow of exposed sensitive data ought to be a serious concern to CIO's everywhere."
Compared to other encryption technologies, self-encryption within the hard drive brings significant performance, management, and security benefits for users. Since the encryption engine is in the drive's controller ASIC, encryption is transparently fast and performance automatically scales with every drive added to a data center. Because there is no performance cost associated with encrypting more data, there is no need to make fine-grained decisions as to what data to protect -- which can eliminate the need for data classification. Self-encryption requires no change to the OS, applications, or databases. Instantaneous Key-Erase(TM) technology, a standard on all Seagate FDE hard drives, facilitates quick and secure removal, whether for repurposing, returning for service, or disposal.
Leading analysts, standards bodies, and major storage providers have closely evaluated and concluded that self-encrypting drives deliver critical benefits for data center information security.
Gartner:
"Many organizations are considering drive-level security for its simplicity in helping secure sensitive data through the hardware lifecycle from initial setup, to upgrade transitions and disposal," said Eric Ouellet, research vice president, Secure Business Enablement, Gartner. "Hard drive disposal in particular has always been one of the most challenging elements of the data security lifecycle. Even with secure disposal processes in place, misplacement, mislabeling and theft still do occur which can result in significant losses, possible penalties and fines. Eliminating the risk of compromise from the source is one approach that can significantly reduce the complexity of managing sensitive data."
IBM:
"Enterprise customers today, especially in the financial services sector, have a keen interest in protecting data-at-rest. Natively securing data in the storage drive without any system performance degradation is the next frontier in truly securing data and storage media that eventually leaves the data center," said Robert Cancilla, vice president of Disk Systems, IBM. "Introduced over a year ago, IBM's self encrypting tape solutions, featuring key management software, continue to address this security priority without the traditional impact to I/O performance, while simplifying encryption key management. We're excited about working with Seagate to bring this model to our disk offerings."
LSI:
"With the continued headlines about data breaches and emerging government mandates, the need for data-at-rest encryption has come front and center," said Phil Bullinger, executive vice president, Engenio Storage Group, LSI. "By encrypting at the drive level, users can potentially eliminate application impact and reduce worry about drives being lost, stolen or repurposed. LSI is pleased to be working with other industry leaders to drive critical developments in standards-based encryption technology."
Trusted Computing Group:
"Full drive encryption enabled in hardware and based on the open standards created by the Trusted Computing Group with Seagate's leadership can give administrators and users confidence that data will be encrypted quickly, easily and always," noted Brian Berger, Trusted Computing Group marketing work group chair. "As demonstrated by the rapidly increasing number of lost, stolen or hacked drives, encryption in hardware really is the most effective solution to help ensure the security of at-rest mission-critical information. Otherwise, corporations potentially face millions or worse in government fines, lost business, lost goodwill and undermining of other corporate relationships."
As a complementary solution for data protection of non-encrypted drives that leave the data center, the Seagate Recovery Services division recently announced its Data Erasure suite of products that utilize a series of advanced, defense-industry rated and approved algorithms to completely and permanently erase all data from a disk drive to ensure that proprietary and sensitive information does not get into the wrong hands. For more information, please contact a Seagate Recovery Services expert at 800-475-0143 or visit http://services.seagate.com/srs.

Applications addressing rich media content and collaborative applications like email can benefit from the average 135% performance boost over SATA-interface drives along with robust enterprise features and native compatibility.
"The explosion of content in enterprise environments is driving the need for faster data access and bandwidth that Seagate's 1TB Barracuda ES.2 drives can deliver with a SAS interface," said Sherman Black, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Seagate Enterprise Compute Business. "SAS dual-port capability with redundancy, improved performance and data integrity make this drive the perfect low-cost/GB enterprise-ready drive for our customers."
SAS also enables greater system-design and integration flexibility for solution providers who are eager to offer even greater value options to their customers. "The higher performance and inherently lower total cost of ownership (TCO) make Barracuda ES.2 drives with SAS a perfect choice for many of our customers," said Joe Cousins, vice president, Marketing at Bell Microproducts. "With the added enterprise features found within SAS all merging into a lower-cost package, we anticipate our customers will be very interested in building and deploying SAS-based systems with Seagate(R) drives."
With the introduction of the Barracuda ES.2 drive, Seagate is first to provide customers with a SAS interface option in addition to its SATA model, which began shipping last year. For major system providers including HP, SAS offers greater levels of data integrity and performance for business-critical and nearline enterprise environments.
"As a leader in the enterprise, HP ProLiant servers and storage technologies help customers to manage their datacenter infrastructure with confidence," said Ron Noblett, vice president, Industry Standard Servers, HP. "Today's announcement extends Xilinx's Aerospace and Defense leadership to the aerospace market by offering the only FPGA family that meets QML class-V requirements for use in high-performance space applications such as packet and video processing," said Mustafa Veziroglu, vice president and general manager of the Market-Specific Products Division at Xilinx. "With the introduction of the Virtex-4QV family, designers of high-altitude, in-orbit, space-based or extra-terrestrial systems in hostile radiation environments can now obtain unprecedented levels of integration in a reprogrammable FPGA that has the logic capacity, performance, and advanced silicon features that previously were available only to commercial product developers."
Single-Chip Solution Addresses Performance Requirements
Building on the legacy of Virtex FPGAs, the QPro(TM) Virtex space-grade series are the broadest offering of FPGAs for space applications available today. With the launch of its commercial-grade Virtex-4 family, Xilinx pioneered the concept of domain-optimized FPGA platforms, which today includes Virtex-4 LX FPGAs for logic-intensive designs, Virtex-4 SX FPGAs for ultra high-performance signal processing, and Virtex-4 FX FPGAs for embedded and packet processing.
To meet the unique processing requirements of space-based systems, Xilinx selected four of the highest performance, largest capacity devices across the three Virtex-4 platforms for its new Virtex-4QV family. These devices provide an unprecedented level of system integration among FPGA-based offerings for space applications with up to 200,000 logic cells, 10Mbit of RAM/FIFO, two built-in PowerPC(R) processor blocks with auxiliary processing unit (APU) controller, 512 DSP slices, and four built-in Ethernet MAC blocks.
All Virtex-4QV FPGAs are guaranteed for radiation tolerance, making it possible for aerospace designers to take advantage of high-performance, high-density reprogrammable technology. Extensive testing by Xilinx and the Single Event Effects (SEE) Consortium verifies a total ionizing dose (TID) of 300 krad (Si) and single-event latchup (SEL) immunity greater than 125 MeVcm2/mg with Virtex-4QV devices. The SEE Consortium was founded in 2002 when Xilinx joined forces with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, leading the way to the application of SRAM-based reconfigurable FPGA technology in high-radiation environments.
SEAKR's vice president and co-owner Scott Anderson states that, "SEAKR has chosen the Virtex-4QV device for our advanced space processor product line due to its high performance and unprecedented flexibility. The modularity of Xilinx-based processor systems dramatically changes the playing field on what is possible for space applications. The ability to be reprogrammed while in orbit allows our customers to minimize program risks while maximizing their return on investment by being able to entertain new business opportunities with deployed space assets."
Xilinx TMRTool and Single-Event Upset Mitigation Solutions
The Virtex-4QV family is supported with a range of upset mitigation solutions to address environmental circumstances, such as charged particles (e.g., heavy ions or protons), that can alter the state of configuration elements within the FPGA, causing a single event upset (SEU) that produces adverse effects on the expected FPGA functionality. These solutions include triple modular redundancy (TMR) reference designs, extensive application notes that simplify the implementation of advanced configuration memory scrubbing techniques, and the Xilinx TMRTool to automate logic triplication in the FPGA fabric. The TMRTool not only increases productivity with fast, error-free design triplication, but also streamlines the integration of custom-built TMR modules while giving designers control over how the design is triplicated.
Comprehensive Portfolio of Tools and IP
To help accelerate every phase of system design with Virtex-4QV FPGAs, Xilinx offers a comprehensive development ecosystem that includes: ISE(R) FPGA design software; Embedded Development Kit with Platform Studio suite; the XtremeDSP(TM) tools package with System Generator for DSP and AccelDSP(TM) synthesis tool; and the ChipScope(TM) analyzer. It also features a robust library of more than 600 intellectual property (IP) cores, Xilinx training and support services, and application notes that can be downloaded from the Xilinx website.
Availability
The Virtex-4QV family is now shipping with the XQR4VLX200, XQR4VSX55, and XQR4VFX60 devices available for order today in a variety of package options. The XQR4VFX140 device will be available for order in the third quarter of 2008. Details on pricing and delivery are available through Xilinx sales representatives.

Ashland University Selects Mediasite by Sonic Foundry for Web-Based LearningMediasite used across several departments to boost retention and student recruitment
MADISON, Wis., April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sonic Foundry, Inc. , the recognized market leader for rich media communications and knowledge management, today announced that Ashland University, named to the top tier of Midwest universities offering master's programs by U.S. News & World Report and "Best in the Midwest" by The Princeton Review, has selected the award-winning Mediasite platform for online instruction and lecture capture. Mediasite is used in several areas, including the College of Nursing, the Dwight Schar College of Education, the Ashland Theological Seminary and the Athletic Department.
"Ashland University is entering a new phase where we are more aggressive about acquiring leading edge technology like Mediasite for synchronous and asynchronous distance learning," said Dr. Frank Pettigrew, Provost and former Dean of the College of Education. "Over the last year, we've made great strides in staying current -- or outpacing -- the leading universities driving technology adoption in Ohio."
"Increasingly, schools like Ashland University are recognizing the competitive difference Mediasite can make in attracting new students and improving learning outcomes," said Rimas Buinevicius, chairman and CEO of Sonic Foundry. "Enabling students to review complicated material repeatedly, at their convenience online, helps meet the demand for technology-enhanced learning from today's media-savvy students while advancing an institution's reach beyond classroom walls."
Ashland University instructors record lectures with Mediasite to reinforce studies, reduce distractions and improve retention as students review content at their own pace. Prior to implementing Mediasite, Ashland University staff looked for a more efficient way to stream and archive asynchronous course instruction.
"We had been encoding lectures with a different system, and the quality of the visual aids was not satisfactory for instruction," said Thomas Kemp, M.A., Director of Instructional Technology and Support. "We could see the limitations of the existing synchronous and asynchronous technology. The Provost spearheaded the Mediasite initiative on campus because he wanted to build a powerful web-based learning platform. Mediasite is being used to archive instructor presentations. We then add those lectures to our Angel learning management system for on time, on-demand access of content for our students. Our public Mediasite catalog is http://www.ashland.edu/mediasite where you can see several different examples of how Ashland University is using Mediasite to our advantage in online learning."
Ashland University's College of Nursing developed an online curriculum to facilitate RNs who are working toward their BSN degrees. Using Mediasite for lecture capture gives these fully-employed students the opportunity to create their own schedules and watch recorded lectures on demand.
"We've seen a real growth in the BSN program, and have increased the ability for students all over northeastern Ohio to register and successfully complete those courses. Mediasite helps make that happen," said Pettigrew.
Ashland University's College of Education, one of the largest among private and state institutions in Ohio, equipped an observation room with Mediasite to capture student teaching so faculty, classmates and the students themselves can assess the efficacy of their student teaching. After their performance is evaluated, many education students often incorporate their best lessons into digital portfolios as they enter the job market.
Ashland Theological Seminary, a graduate division of Ashland University, offers theological training via Mediasite between its Ashland, Ohio, campus and its extension in Detroit, Michigan.
"Theological education has been an integral part of Ashland University's mission for over a century, and perhaps few people would suspect that a seminary would be the driving force behind new technology adoption across the rest of campus," said Vicki Taylor, Director of Technology for Ashland Theological Seminary. "But we are home to a group of forward-thinking professors and theologists who have gone out of our way to push for teaching the gospel with technology like Mediasite."
Additionally, the Athletics Department uses Mediasite to capture Eagles Site with Head Coach Lee Owens, a post-game show of the winning football team featuring highlights, interviews and player statistics.
"Once we realized how easy it was to actually put a program together, and then make it accessible to alumni, players, coaches, faculty and potential recruits both live and on-demand, we knew we had something special. Mediasite far exceeded our expectations," said Lee Owens, head football coach of Ashland University. "We use Eagles Site to make the football program important, to promote it in the community and with the alumni and to get people excited about football. Anytime you can do that it's going to help you win."
Since its introduction in 2003, Sonic Foundry's Mediasite has set the standard as a transformational communication medium for delivering critical information and sharing knowledge. Trusted by more than 500 colleges and universities, the patented Mediasite webcasting and content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of rich media presentations that combine audio, video and accompanying graphics for live or on-demand viewing.

Adoption of Integration Competency Centers Drives Operational EfficiencyInformatica Survey findings highlight significant cost-savings and faster time-to-market
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Informatica Corporation , the leading independent provider of data integration software, today announced findings from an Informatica-conducted customer research study looking at the adoption of Integration Competency Centers (ICC) and their value in driving operational efficiency. The findings highlight that corporations who have implemented ICCs are obtaining multi-million dollar annual cost savings and dramatic reductions in time-to-market.
"Our ICC has been an unqualified success," said Gary Reicher, vice president Database Services and Architecture, T. Rowe Price. "It has yielded significant labor savings in new development and application maintenance while continuing to save on software and hardware costs for new integration projects. Ultimately, the cost per new project continues to decrease while we are able to take advantage of application reuse and speed up time-to-market delivery."
An ICC is a shared service consisting of people, technology, policies, best practices, and processes responsible for rapid and cost-effective planning, development, and management of data integration projects across the enterprise.
Independent analysts and customers alike see the value of the ICC -- Forrester's Vollmer and Karel write in the March 2007 report Evaluating Integration Technology Options, "The integration competency center (ICC) should be the main source of expertise related to the various integration alternatives and should be involved in any decisions related to which alternative would be best suited to the targeted business requirements."
The Informatica survey highlights that ICCs have become an essential component of IT and are exhibiting high rates of success. A sampling of Informatica customers, over 130 in North America and Europe, ranging in size from under $100 million to over $5 billion in revenues, were surveyed in December 2007. Of those surveyed 43% of the companies either have an ICC or are in the process of rolling out a program. Of those companies who have an ICC in production, a significant majority indicated support for broader data integration activities beyond data warehousing including real-time operational data integration, system migration/consolidation, Master Data Management, and Data Quality projects. When asked to rate the success of their ICC on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest, over 75% rated an average score of 4 based on significant cost savings, economies of scale, and improved time-to-market on new data integration projects due to their Integration Competency Center.
INFORMATICA FORMS ICC PRACTICE
Informatica has formed an ICC Professional Services practice to assist companies with the business analysis, financial justification, business case, and implementation of their ICCs. Comprising expertise in both business processes and technology solutions, this practice helps corporations to drive improved operational efficiency and time-to-market across all data integration projects including real-time mission-critical project requirements.
In addition, Informatica has created beginner and advanced educational courses on Integration Competency Centers to help companies understand the power and benefits of an ICC for their enterprise data integration needs.
"Major analyst firms have predicted that by 2010, more than 80 percent of very large companies and 50 percent of large companies will have an Integration Competency Center," said John Schmidt, vice president, Global ICC Practice, Professional Services, Informatica. "Informatica customers are demonstrating that an ICC is the most effective and efficient way to manage data integration projects at an enterprise level. Their experiences prove that an ICC can be instrumental in the broad application of data integration techniques and technologies to solve a wide range of business problems, delivering quantifiable value in the form of cost savings and avoidance, accelerated time to market, higher performing applications, and consistency in business decisions."

Garmin(R) Receives Certification for G1000(R) Synthetic Vision System
OLATHE, Kansas, April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today that it received FAA supplemental type certification (STC) for Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT(TM)), which is designed to integrate with the acclaimed G1000 avionics suite. Garmin's SVT presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacles and traffic on the G1000's primary flight-display (PFD) so that the avionics panel replicates what pilots would see outside the cockpit on a clear day.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20061026/CGTH082LOGO)
"Garmin's SVT brings an unprecedented level of integration and awareness to pilots of G1000-equipped aircraft," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice president of marketing. "SVT transforms the cockpit by accurately displaying synthetic terrain, flight hazards, flight path marker and highway-in-the-sky on the PFD so that the pilot maintains excellent airborne situational awareness even when flying in conditions of reduced visibility or darkness. This results in reduced pilot workload and safer flying."
Garmin's SVT seamlessly blends information about the aircraft's position with topographic databases to create and display real-time 3D images. The information is presented on the G1000's large flight displays with XGA (1,024x768-pixel) resolution, superior sunlight readability and wide viewing angles. SVT presents the necessary information in ways that are easy to understand so pilots feel at ease interpreting the information.
The foundation of SVT is the depiction of 3D terrain, which is displayed on the PFD(s). Land, water and sky are clearly differentiated with shading and textures that are similar to the topographical colors found on the multi-function display (MFD) moving map. SVT works seamlessly to alert pilots of potential ground hazards by displaying terrain and obstacles which pose a threat to the aircraft with appropriate TAWS alert coloring. Those flying with a TAWS-B enabled (optional) G1000 avionics suite also have the benefit of receiving voice alerts. Terrain warnings are also depicted on the MFD with a traditional, color-coded "X" symbol. If the aircraft does not have TAWS-B enabled, reduced capability AC 23-26 compliant terrain alerting is included with SVT.
Numerous other SVT features increase safety of flight and help pilots fly with greater precision:
-- Obstacles: Intuitively enlarges obstacle(s) as aircraft approaches;
TAWS based colors are used when the required obstacle clearance is not
met or in the case of potential obstacle impact
-- Traffic: TCAS traffic symbology represented in 3D that changes size
relative to range
-- Flight Path Marker: Displays projected path of the aircraft
-- Zero Pitch Line: Clearly distinguishes aircraft's altitude in relation
to nearby terrain
-- Gridlines: Drawn on the terrain surface and enhances distance
perception
-- Runways: Runway designations and thresholds are superimposed on terrain
data; Unique runway highlighting and enhancements improves runway
visibility from a distance
-- Airport Signs: Depicts identifier of nearby airports
Pilots will also appreciate SVT's pathways, or Highway-In-The-Sky (HITS) guidance. Depicted as 3D "flying rectangles", pathway guidance symbols help pilots stay on course when flying en route legs, VNAV legs, GPS/WAAS vertical approach procedures, ILS approach procedures, and arrival and departure procedures. When on an ILS approach, pilots will take advantage of Garmin's patent-pending system whereby SVT relies on ILS signals to position the pathway. Therefore, when pilots fly through the SVT boxes on an ILS approach, they will automatically fly the precision glideslope. Pathways may be enabled or disabled via a PFD softkey.
"Garmin's SVT is another example of our commitment to innovation," said Kelley. "Because the G1000 is a truly integrated and expandable system, all major components are designed and manufactured by a single company so that they work together to give pilots the complete picture. SVT is a retrofitable system and we are working with OEMs to develop a process whereby customers will have the option of adding SVT to their aircraft with very little downtime."
SVT also brings MFD enhancements. At the nose of the MFD's aircraft graphic, pilots will see the field of view scan (45-degrees lateral scan) and flight path predictor that displays the aircraft's anticipated flight path.
Garmin's all-glass, fully-integrated G1000 avionics suite is a revolutionary design that has set a new standard for the aviation industry. The lightweight and modular design continue Garmin's tradition of technology innovation. The system integrates all primary flight, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, weather, engine instrumentation, and crew-alerting system data, and presents the composite information on various size large-format PFD(s) and MFD. The G1000 features the GFC 700, the first entirely new autopilot designed and certified for the 21st century. The GFC 700 is capable of using all data available to the G1000 including the ability to maintain airspeed references and to optimize performance over the entire airspeed envelope.
The G1000 avionics suite also integrates Garmin's SafeTaxi(R), FliteCharts(R) and ChartView (optional), which simplify operation, enhance situational awareness, and increase safety during flight and when taxiing. Garmin ChartView is an electronic version of Jeppesen's extensive library of charts and airport diagrams displayed directly on the G1000's MFD. FliteCharts is an electronic version of the National Aeronautical Chart Office (NACO) U.S. Terminal Procedures Publication and lets pilots quickly find and view all NACO Departure Procedures (DP), Standard Terminal Arrival Routes (STARs), approach charts, and airport diagrams on the MFD. Garmin SafeTaxi helps pilots navigate unfamiliar airports while taxiing by identifying runways, taxiways, and hangars, as well as the aircraft's exact location on the field.
SVT is expected to be available on G900X(TM) equipped aircraft by July 2008 and on the G1000 King Air C90 retrofit in 2009. Integration of SVT into existing G1000 systems or yet-to-be-delivered G1000 equipped aircraft is being coordinated with each aircraft manufacturer. Contact the individual aircraft manufacturer for SVT price and availability. The G1000 and SVT are backed by Garmin's standard warranty and award-winning product support team. Additional information is available at http://www.garmin.com/aviation.

SST's New SQI Flash Family Raises Performance Levels for Serial Flash Memory26 Series SQI Flash Devices Feature Fast Operating Frequency and I/O Architecture Enhancements for Execute-in-Place Capability
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.) , a leader in flash memory technology, today announced the new 26 Series Serial Quad I/O (SQI) family of 4-bit multiplexed I/O serial interface flash memory devices. The 26 Series' low pin count and enhanced serial interface architecture make the family an ideal code storage solution for applications such as ultra low-cost handsets, Bluetooth headsets, optical disk drives and GPS devices, where small form factor, low power consumption and high data rate are a must. With a fast 80 MHz operating frequency and a specialized instruction set, SST's 26 Series SQI flash devices target execute-in-place (XIP) applications, allowing programs to be stored and executed directly from the flash memory without the need for code shadowing on an SRAM, thus further increasing overall system performance.
The 26 Series SQI devices feature a 4-bit multiplexed serial interface architecture and up to a 350 Mbit/sec. sustained burst data rate that provides performance exceeding typical parallel flash memory. To provide additional system speed and performance, the 26 Series supports 8-, 16-, 32- and 64-Byte burst mode operation with wrap around, which reduces the memory's read access time, as well as memory index jumping, which reduces the number of input clock cycles. All products in the 26 Series family use a small-outline, 8-pin package to provide a comparable design footprint.
"Designers are always looking to maximize performance and reduce the overall footprint and power consumption of their embedded designs, particularly in portable applications," said Sirak Brook, vice president, Memory Business, SST. "The innovative features and new operating modes we developed allow our 26 Series SQI memory devices to eclipse the performance capabilities of other 4-bit multiplexed I/O serial interface flash memory products in the market today without sacrificing low power consumption or small form factor."
The 26 Series SQI devices offer memory write performance enhancements to improve overall device performance, including flexible erase capability to erase small block sectors on the chip in as little as 25 ms or the entire flash memory chip in 50 ms. The devices also support write suspend and resume operation so a program can suspend a write operation to access another block of memory within the same clock cycle.
Code security was also improved in the development of SST's 26 Series SQI flash memory. All devices in the family support software write protection for individual blocks, the upper and lower 64-KBytes of memory are partitioned into smaller 8-KByte sectors that can both read- and write-lock. In addition, the devices include a one-time programmable secure ID area, consisting of a 64-bit factory programmed unique ID and a 192-bit user programmable block.
Products in the 26 Series are based on SST's proprietary, high-performance SuperFlash technology. The 26 Series SQI devices offer superior reliability of 100,000 cycles endurance (typical) and greater than 100 years data retention. The active read current of the devices is only 15 mA (typical at 80 MHz) and standby current is a mere 10 mA (typical). All 26 Series SQI devices are available in both commercial and industrial temperature ranges, and are offered in an 8-contact WSON (6 mm x 5 mm) or 8-lead SOIC (200 mil) package.
Pricing and Availability
The first product in the 26 Series SQI family is the 16 Mbit, 3.0V SST26VF016. Samples of the product will be available next month, with volume production scheduled for Q4 2008. Pricing for the SST26VF016 device is $1.16 each in 10K unit quantities. Future 26 Series SQI products with larger memory capacities and lower supply voltages are in development.

ROO Group Becomes Kit Digital---Company Launches New Brand and Enhanced Corporate Strategy at MIP TV conference in Cannes, France
CANNES, France, April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ROO Group (BULLETIN BOARD: RGRP) , a global leader in online video solutions, announced today the launch of its new brand identity to better reflect the company's updated strategic direction and corporate initiatives. The new brand, KIT digital, represents the company's operational platform and focus on "Knowledge, Imagination and Technology" to provide its clients with the strategies and tools necessary to harness the significant potential of Internet video. The company's new web site is http://www.kit-digital.com/.
KIT digital works closely with consumer brands and content owners including Verizon, News Corp., Google, Sensis, RCS and Telstra to develop and implement comprehensive, customized solutions for maximizing and monetizing their online assets.
To enhance its service offering, the company recently announced the acquisition and integration of its subsidiary, Sputnik Agency, a leading interactive marketing agency that has worked with clients including Holden (General Motors), BP and Saab Australia.
Last month, the company entered into a content distribution agreement with Kamera Content, a company that enables corporate clients such as Vodafone, MSN, Orange, Telefonica and China Mobile to deliver IPTV to their customers via both mobile and online networks. At the same time, KIT digital (then ROO Group) entered into a letter of intent to purchase 100% of the capital stock of Kamera, a transaction that adds full mobile distribution capabilities to KIT digital's online video service offering.
"The transformation from ROO to KIT digital signifies a rebirth for our company. With a new, profitability-focused management team and the integration of our interactive marketing subsidiary, Sputnik Agency-giving us a true end- to-end service offering for companies who want to harness video over IP-we believe KIT digital is positioned to lead and consolidate the industry," said Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, chairman and CEO of KIT digital. "Our new brand reflects the efforts we've made since the KIT Capital team assumed control of the company four months ago. We have worked hard to clean up the capital structure, divest ourselves of non-core and unprofitable assets, and refocus our sales and marketing efforts on higher margin, enterprise clients. We felt the MIP TV conference which starts today in Cannes, France-at which the leading companies on both the content and digital delivery sides of the industry are in attendance-was the right forum to unveil our new corporate identity and enhanced corporate strategy."
The KIT digital 360 degree program provides clients in media & entertainment, retail, automotive and financial services with a digital media management package which allows these clients to profitably market online video under their own brand, and includes the following salient features:
Device-agnostic, multi-lingual platform for content management and delivery:
-- Workflow and publishing
-- Video player experience
-- Content streaming (live and VoD)
-- Indexing and storage
-- Advertising
-- Content and analytics
-- Rights management
-- Customer service
Comprehensive interactive agency services:
-- Content syndication and programming
-- Creative development and brand management
-- Campaign development
-- Strategy and planning
