ShoreTel Helps Educational Institutions Make the Grade With Lower Costs, Improved Focus on TeachingEasy-to-deploy, easy-to-manage IP-based unified communications solution connects multiple campuses and facilitates emergency preparedness
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ShoreTel(R), Inc. , a leading provider of Pure IP Unified Communications solutions, is finding the increased adoption of the company's unified communications solutions among educational institutions globally. These institutions have found that ShoreTel enables educational institutions to lower costs, allow teachers to spend more time teaching, increases staff productivity, and prepare for emergency situations and disaster recovery.
ShoreTel has announced successful deployments of an easy-to-install, easy-to-maintain ShoreTel unified communications solution in Claremore Public Schools in Oklahoma, Dougherty County School System in Georgia, Palisades Charter High School in California, North Central Texas College, and Southern Polytechnic State University in Georgia. In the U.K., Coleg Glan Hafren has deployed -- and Trafford College and the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Brighton will soon be deploying -- a ShoreTel unified communications solution. In New Zealand, Te Totara Public School and Aberdeen Primary School have recently been deployed. Case studies for some of these deployments and more are available at http://www.shoretel.com/solutions/industry/education.html.
"Educational institutions are clearly responding to ShoreTel's ability to deliver communications with impact," said Steve Timmerman, vice president of marketing at ShoreTel. "Reduced call costs and lower deployment costs impact the bottom line. Ease of use impacts efficiency and productivity, allowing teachers to focus on teaching instead of administration. But the most important impacts of ShoreTel's distributed software architecture are fostering collaboration and improving the safety of educational environments."
By connecting campuses and putting telephones in every classroom, ShoreTel lets teachers, staff and parents work more closely together to improve the learning experience for each and every student. ShoreTel also enables efficient notification in the event of emergencies and provides N+1 redundancy for survivability in the event of a natural disaster.
Claremore Public Schools, Oklahoma
The K-12 Claremore Independent School District, with nine campuses, needed a phone system that was cost-effective, easy to manage, scalable, and flexible enough to support numerous moves, adds and changes. With ShoreTel, the district has enjoyed clear IP-based calls and a powerful feature set that improves employee productivity.
"The school district environment requires that many moves, adds, and changes be made to the phone system on a continual basis," said Terry Simpson, director of technology with the Claremore Public Schools. "The ShoreTel system allows us to handle changes efficiently and cost-effectively with minimum support staff. This results in significant savings for us -- up to $2,000 per year because we had to have someone come in at the beginning of each year to make changes with the old system. I can even make these changes from home anytime, including changes to the auto attendant message."
Dougherty County School System, Georgia
With 40 locations, 18,000 students, 1,900 faculty and staff, and an old PBX phone system, Dougherty County School System was spending $12,000 to $15,000 every month on its phone bill. With ShoreTel's IP-based unified communications solution, the district is now saving at least $150,000 per year by operating with 500 fewer lines, blocking 411 directory calls and 800 calls, and closely controlling long distance calling.
"With the cost savings and all the features we have, ShoreTel has been by far the best technical addition I've seen," said Bill Freeman, technical services supervisor for Dougherty County School System and a 25-year employee with the district.
Palisades Charter High School, California
Palisades Charter High School wanted a telephone system with greater flexibility, custom features the school could manage on its own, and security features to improve emergency responsiveness. With ShoreTel, student and facility security is enhanced with the ShoreTel E911 Notification Application, which automatically notifies appropriate personnel in the event of a 911 call. See the press release at http://www.shoretel.com/about/press_room/2008/01-09.html.
"The ShoreTel unified communications system is so reliable, flexible, and easy to configure that it allows me to say 'yes' to the individual call handling requests that teachers and administrators make," said Maisha-Cole Perri, technology coordinator at Palisades Charter High School. "This was impossible with our PBX system because of the time and cost of bringing technicians to the site. Now I can make the changes myself. With ShoreTel, the telephone has become an important productivity tool that helps teachers and administrators do their jobs better."
North Central Texas College
North Central Texas College wanted to tie together its three campuses in a way that provided all users with advanced telephony features while controlling local and long-distance service costs. With ShoreTel, the college has reduced technician training because most maintenance is done via a Web interface to the ShoreTel switches on any campus.
"We liked ShoreTel's overall system architecture and the ability to do remote management via a Web interface," said Denise Cason, chief information officer for North Central Texas College. "I can't tell you how many times we wished for this level of remote visibility into one of the other campuses' call systems."
Coleg Glan Hafren, United Kingdom
With four College sites and 600 staff served by an aging and inflexible managed voice system, Coleg Glan Hafren wanted to reduce the costs of moves, adds and changes, improve the efficiency of routing calls, and eliminate lost voicemails. With ShoreTel, Coleg Glan Hafren has realized significant cost reductions and efficiency gains, and has deployed a communications system that will support future expansion plans.
"Using ShoreTel's browser-based ShoreWare(R) Director, the system is extremely easy to manage -- probably the easiest of all the products we looked at," Gareth Burton, IT manager, Coleg Glan Hafren.
Aberdeen Primary School, New Zealand
With an aging and outdated phone system, staff at Aberdeen Primary School in Hamilton, felt it was time to install a more reliable and robust solution for its expanding primary school. They were looking for a reliable and easy-to-use system that could be managed internally unlike the schools older system that required outside technicians each time a change was needed, which added to downtime and costs.
"The ShoreTel UC solution provided us with a system that is easy to use and reliable. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a similar telephony system. The capacity of the system, and the fact that it is scalable, were benefits we really felt were imperative. All of our staff loves the ShoreTel UC solution and unlike our old system I have not heard a negative comment to date," commented Helen Hogan, Executive Officer of Aberdeen.

Atmel and Telit Revolutionize Machine-to-Machine Communications System Design for Processor-intensive Applications
ROUSSET, France and ROME, April 8 /PRNewswire/ --
- Atmel's AT91SAM9260 ARM9-based Microcontroller Offloads Time-Critical
Applications from Second GPRS Processor
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) and Telit Communications PLC (AIM:
TCM), an international leader in the field of machine-to-machine (M2M)
communication, disclosed today that Telit has been harnessing the expertise
of microcontroller leader Atmel for the development of its high-performance
M2M modules. The GE863-PRO(3) is the first product in Telit's dual-processor
range to feature an Atmel AT91SAM9260 ARM9-based processor running the
application in tandem with a dedicated processor for GPRS communication. It
provides the extremely high processing power and the flexibility to support
today's rapidly changing M2M market that demands more advanced features and
more processing power at ever-shorter intervals. Its standard form factor and
easy integration make the Telit module particularly attractive for
applications such as POS terminals or fleet management. The GE863-PRO(3) has
met with tremendous market success since its launch in Q4 2007.
The core of the GE863-PRO(3) is the AT91SAM9260, an ARM9-based embedded
processor from Atmel that delivers processing power above 200 MIPS. Whereas
in the past just one sub-50 MIPS microcontroller took care of alternate
communication and application tasks, the additional AT91SAM9260 processor now
controls only real-time applications, while the second GPRS processor handles
time-critical GPRS communications transactions.
Advantages for End Users and Systems Integrators. The GE863-PRO(3) is
designed as a small footprint platform that can be easily adapted to rapidly
changing demand in the M2M market without the need to re-design the hardware.
This is assured by a standard form factor, tried-and-tested BGA (Ball Grid
Array) assembly and sufficient integrated memory for software applications.
It thus facilitates a short time-to-market with a simultaneous reduction in
development costs for applications. "By selecting a dual processor approach
and using a high performance standard microcontroller supported by an
extensive eco-system to run the application layers, integrating future demand
becomes less time consuming, lower risk and less costly. With its core values
of investment protection, easy integration, high quality and scalability,
Telit is focusing precisely on the aspects that will be in the future the key
determinants of success in the M2M market," said Jacko Wilbrink, Atmel's
ARM(R) Product Marketing Director. "This makes Telit an ideal partner to help
us to become established in this market."
Targeted Use through Flexibility. Telit's PRO(3) professional
dual-processor range can be adapted to the particular needs of specialist
areas thanks to a number of expansion options. The WiFi add-on WA100-DUAL,
for example, facilitates the wireless connections over short distances that
are needed for fleet management. Hand-held devices and scanners on the
loading ramp can thus transfer information on stock management or facilitate
data transfer with lorries.
Stability Thanks to Expert Partners. In view of the company's many years'
experience in microcontrollers and its excellent support, Telit has chosen
Atmel for close collaboration in product development. Telit has already
integrated a previous generation of Atmel's ARM7-based microcontrollers into
its products. "The outstanding results of this cooperation and the
availability of a high performance ARM9(TM) Embedded Microprocessor in a
10x10 mm BGA package were the foundation of our decision to integrate Atmel's
AT91SAM9260 in our PRO(3) professional dual-processor range too," says
Dominikus Hierl, President of Telit Wireless Solutions. "The successful
launch of the GE863-PRO(3) confirms our decision to continue relying on Atmel
processors."

Simon Tam Returns to Expedia Corporate Travel to Lead Product and Technology InnovationExpedia Corporate Travel names Simon Tam senior vice president of product and technology
BELLEVUE, Wash., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Expedia(R) Corporate Travel ensures its place at the forefront of innovation within the corporate travel industry by bringing Simon Tam on board as senior vice president of product and technology. As a founding member of the Expedia Corporate Travel team, Tam, who worked with the company until early 2006, played a key role in establishing it as the No. 1 full-service corporate travel agency and fifth largest travel management company.
"Simon is a true industry veteran and has been a major contributor to Expedia Corporate Travel from the beginning," says Jean-Pierre Remy, president of Expedia Corporate Travel. "Since launching in 2002, the company has continued to grow at a rapid pace. With Simon as part of the team, we will continue transforming corporate travel while maintaining our leadership position in the industry."
"It's a tremendous opportunity to build upon the success of what we have started," said Tam. "When I look at how far Expedia Corporate Travel has come in such a short time, I cannot help but be proud of the power of our technology and how it enables travel managers to drive, monitor and control their programs. Looking at the 40 percent average online adoption rate in the U.S. corporate travel industry, it's obvious that not only are we leading a revolution by setting the bar at 88 percent across all traveler bookings, but we are pushing to advance self-service booking tools for travelers and travel management."
In his new role Tam will lead the team responsible for product strategy, marketing, management and development, as well as technology direction worldwide. Expedia Corporate Travel's product and technology group will focus its efforts in the following four distinct areas, which are highlighted by several new features announced today:
Expanding Global Footprint
Following its growing presence in Europe and recent entry into China, Expedia Corporate Travel will continue to extend its reach internationally and ensure a consistent, industry-leading technology platform across all regions. Tam will work to build on the company's initial foray into the Asia-Pacific region and ensure that Expedia Corporate Travel continues to grow with its customers as their needs evolve. Customers will now have even more visibility into their global travel spend through enhancements to Expedia Corporate Travel's proprietary global consolidated reporting platform. This platform provides on-demand access to global flight, rail, hotel, car and fee spend, making it easy for travel managers to access all of their data and increase efficiencies and savings.
Empowering Travel Managers with Actionable Information and Insight
The Expedia Corporate Travel platform has been expanded to give travel managers even more control and a deeper level of understanding of their programs through several business intelligence enhancements. New features include the addition of scheduled reports, allowing travel managers to customize and plan the delivery of key business data to promote on-time analysis, and a new "active traveler" report that allows travel managers to have a complete view of upcoming trips in a specific timeframe. DataMinder(TM) is another new tool available that provides travel managers the ability to set and trigger email notifications based on business metrics with the goal of aiding the real-time monitoring of program performance and maximizing the value from preferred supplier contracts.
Investing in Innovation
Tam will play a vital role in establishing a platform for traveler collaboration, continuing the company's efforts to deliver user generated content to business travelers. While the corporate travel industry is only in the early stages of this evolution, Expedia Corporate Travel is uniquely positioned to offer these features through its flexible, proprietary platform and the availability of relevant travel content. By providing tools that will foster deeper connections and sharing information among business travelers, the next wave of business travel presents the opportunity to increase the ease and efficiency of the traveler experience. Additional enhancements also give travelers access to updated itineraries throughout an entire trip, reflecting all flight, hotel and car changes that they have made en-route.
Access to Broader Supply of Inventory
The company continues to make investments in supporting access to a broad range of content that is meaningful to business travelers. These include continued investments in its global air platform that will improve the quality of service for Expedia Corporate Travel customers. Companies will now have the option to allow their business travelers to reserve town cars and limousines while ensuring that they're in accordance with company policy and reflected in spend reporting.
Tam first joined Expedia(R) in 1996 as a primary developer on the American Express/AXI project, which was Expedia's first foray into corporate travel. Since then, he has been credited with launching Expedia's first corporate online booking site, helping Expedia Corporate Travel grow to become a global travel management company.
Prior to re-joining Expedia Corporate Travel, Tam spent the past two years leveraging his business-to-business and e-commerce expertise in advisory and consulting roles with a number of Internet startups. He now returns to his roots to continue driving innovation in corporate travel.

Autodesk Joins Citrix Alliance Program and Announces AutoCAD Map 3D Software Is 'Citrix Ready'Citrix XenApp Application Virtualization System Lets AutoCAD(R) Map 3D Software Customers More Easily Create, Deploy and Manage Geospatial Software Solutions in a Citrix Environment
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a move to provide its AutoCAD Map 3D customers with increased data privacy, lower cost deployment, and centralized software management, Autodesk, Inc. today announced it has joined the Citrix(R) Alliance Program. In addition, Autodesk announced it has completed verification testing of its AutoCAD Map 3D 2009 software with Citrix XenApp(TM) through the Citrix Ready(TM) program. The Citrix Ready designation identifies products that are compatible with a Citrix application delivery environment, thus simplifying the software selection process for Citrix users and allowing them to now deploy AutoCAD Map 3D. Since AutoCAD Map 3D users' data will now reside on Citrix servers, Autodesk customers can expect increased security, reduced hardware costs and, ultimately, increased ROI up to 30 percent.
The Citrix Alliance Program, a key component of the Citrix Partner Program, is an extensive ecosystem of more than 1,800 software and hardware manufacturers and service providers who complement and extend the Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure.
"Some of the largest telecommunications firms, power utilities and government agencies are Citrix users and they need an easy and cost effective way to deliver and leverage AutoCAD Map 3D across their organizations, regardless of location, device or network connection," said Lisa Campbell, vice president, geospatial solutions, Autodesk. "Our participation in the Citrix Ready program means our customers can now virtually create, deploy and manage their geospatial software solutions from a Citrix environment."
Citrix XenApp, an end-to-end application delivery system, provides a more secure environment to deliver AutoCAD Map 3D across the enterprise without sacrificing performance or functionality. As an industry-proven application virtualization system, Citrix XenApp helps further reduce IT management costs and increases data security and regulatory compliance by centralizing application processing and administration in the data center.
"We significantly enhanced Citrix XenApp to virtualize and deliver high-performance graphics-intensive applications like AutoCAD Map 3D,"said David Roussain, vice president, Application Virtualization Group at Citrix Systems. "As a market leader in 2D and 3D digital design, Autodesk's verification work completed through our Citrix Ready program is an important step that enables its customers to deliver their AutoCAD Map 3D applications to any user in any location using Citrix XenApp."
By completing verification testing with XenApp, Autodesk joins a growing network of independent software vendors who have verified their products with the Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure. Citrix Ready has been designed to recognize and highlight Citrix alliance partner products that add the greatest value to Citrix application delivery infrastructure solutions. By utilizing the Citrix Ready verification process, Autodesk and Citrix help mutual customers select and deploy the best solutions for their enterprises.

FREMONT, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology, Inc. previously announced on March 26, 2008 that Mr. Bruce J. Alexander, a member of ESS Technology's board of directors and audit committee, passed away on March 25, 2008. As a result of Mr. Alexander's death, ESS Technology's audit committee currently consists of only two members, Peter T. Mok and Alfred J. Stein. Nasdaq's Marketplace Rule 4350(d)(2)(A) requires each listed issuer to have an audit committee that consists of at least three independent members, and, as a result, the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications department sent a deficiency letter to ESS Technology informing it that ESS Technology was no longer in compliance with Nasdaq's audit committee requirement. Under Marketplace Rule 4350, ESS Technology was given until September 22, 2008 to add a third independent member to its audit committee in order to regain compliance. ESS Technology initiated a search to fill that position soon after Mr. Alexander's death, and expects to make an appointment on or prior to the deadline date, or to not replace Mr. Alexander and instead consummate a merger with Imperium Master Fund, Ltd. ("Imperium") prior to such deadline date. ESS Technology previously announced that on February 21, 2008, ESS Technology, Echo Technology (Delaware), Inc., a Delaware corporation and a wholly owned subsidiary of ESS Technology, Semiconductor Holding Corporation, a Delaware corporation and wholly owned subsidiary of Imperium, and Echo Mergerco, Inc., a Delaware corporation and a wholly owned subsidiary of Imperium entered into an Agreement and Plan of Merger (the "Merger Agreement") pursuant to which the Company is expected to be acquired by an affiliate of Imperium.
In addition, with respect to the previously disclosed deficiency letter the Company received from The Nasdaq Stock Market, Listing Qualifications department notifying the Company that it had not complied with the requirement to hold its annual shareholders' meeting in 2007, on April 2, 2008, the Company received a letter from the Nasdaq Office of General Counsel informing the Company that the Nasdaq Hearings Panel has determined to continue listing the Company's common stock on The Nasdaq Stock Market so long as the Company shall inform the Nasdaq Hearings Panel on or before May 30, 2008 that the Company has solicited proxies and held its 2007 annual shareholders' meeting. The Company intends to hold its next annual shareholders' meeting as soon as possible, but cannot guarantee that the meeting will be held on or before May 30, 2008. In light of this uncertainty, the Company intends to appeal the Nasdaq Hearings Panel's decision to the Nasdaq Listing and Hearing Review Council, although there is no guarantee that this additional appeal process will further stay the delisting.

Amnesty International USA Doubles Online Donations With Interwoven OptimostEffectiveness of Website Optimization Nets Surprising Results
LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FORRESTER MARKETING FORUM 2008 -- With its incredibly limited online budget, Amnesty International USA relies on five staff to manage its entire online presence. With so few resources, the organization decided it could not afford to rely on best guesses anymore when creating donations forms.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20071205/INTWOVLOGO)
Amnesty International USA selected the Interwoven Multivariable Optimization solution, powered by Interwoven Optimost, to optimize amnestyusa.org to increase overall donations. The Interwoven Multivariable Optimization solution can create, test and optimize, virtually limitless permutations of Web copy, offers, and layouts that determine the customer buying experience and the journey from browsing to checkout.
In October, Amnesty International began running vigorous testing of their email marketing landing pages and conducted optimization experiments against their primary donation and search landing pages. The goal was to materially improve donation page completion rates (DPCR) from their email appeals. Results from these tests include:
-- More than doubling donation page completion rates vs. the prior year
from 16% to 34%
-- Netting an additional $128,000 due to the higher conversion rates in
just December 2007 alone
-- Increasing the return on investment for their search keyword program
from 6:1 to over 10:1
The Amnesty International team discovered that very small changes could make a huge impact. For instance, simplifying a donation form by one or two fields improved conversion rates by 30-40 percent; changing the placement or color of "submit" or "donate" buttons resulted in as much as a 20 percent increase in conversions. The results of making the adjustments to the site indicated by their testing contributed greatly to Amnesty's hugely successful year-end fundraising campaign.
"Intuitively I knew that small changes could make a difference, but I was surprised at how substantial an improvement those simple adjustments actually made. Before using Interwoven, we had no way of gathering this data which really meant we were flying blind," said Steve Daigneault, managing director of Internet communications at Amnesty International USA. "Using Interwoven, we have been able to optimize key areas of our online presence without having to invest in a complete overhaul of our site. This has been a very exciting project for a non-profit, where we have a very small staff and an even smaller budget. It feels great to achieve such success with a relatively minimal investment."
"We are proud to be working closely with one of the world's leading human rights organizations to optimize their online fundraising efforts and make the most of their limited resources," said Seth Rosenblatt, vice president of product marketing at Interwoven. "As Amnesty discovered, multivariable testing can have a profound impact on transforming an organization's Web presence, maximizing the impact of its online investment, optimizing its resources, and converting browsers to donors."
About the Interwoven Multivariable Optimization Solution
The Interwoven Multivariable Optimization solution, delivered via a software-as-a-service model, helps companies with one of their biggest challenges: creating a compelling, engaging, and relevant online experience that delivers measurable business results. The solution optimizes virtually every online marketing element including landing pages, registration pages, shopping carts, credit card pages, banner ads, email creatives, and Web applications as well as every content type within them, including headlines, copy, forms, images, and rich media. By exposing different combinations of content to different visitors and then measuring visitors' actions, the Interwoven Multivariable Optimization solution can identify the most compelling combination of content and layout. Organizations can then offer the most effective presentation to visitors.

BEA Systems Releases Platform for Enterprise Social ComputingBEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction Release Designed to Drive New Modes of Collaboration, Improved Productivity and Participation
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEA Systems today announced the major release of its BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction suite of products, including new versions of BEA AquaLogic(R) Interaction, BEA AquaLogic(R) Interaction Collaboration and BEA AquaLogic(R) Analytics. As more and more enterprises seek to enhance existing portal deployments and stale intranets with Web 2.0 capabilities, these new releases are designed to help companies deliver innovative new workplace strategies via BEA's cross-platform web suite. With the new BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction release, customers can create richer, more interactive profile pages, deliver infinitely customizable user experiences and multi-channel interfaces, leverage full RSS capabilities, and enable dynamic human networks to create social applications that enhance worker productivity, group collaboration and community innovation. For more information on how BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction products can be leveraged for enterprise social computing, please visit http://www.bea.com/alui.
The March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health, selected BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction as an organization-wide framework for its employees, partners and end-users to create and share information in the pursuit of improving the health of newborns and infants.
"Today, we are embracing new innovations in portal, collaboration and Web 2.0 technologies to help us achieve our mission of improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality," said Paul Tominsky, director of enterprise portal/knowledge management at March of Dimes. "By empowering our employees, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates with greater control and flexibility over how information in our organization is used and shared through our portal platform, we hope to achieve a more active user community, and improved collaboration and sharing of enterprise knowledge through the deployment of BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction."
American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. It selected BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction to help provide a readily accessible, cross-functional platform for capturing, finding and sharing information and services through the Web that staff and volunteers need to do their job and fulfill the ADA mission.
"ADA initially deployed its portal, MyADA, to 900 staff nationwide in 2006. After witnessing the revolutionary impact of Web 2.0 companies on the consumer Web, we were ready to begin adopting these principles in the enterprise," said Rob Cork, director, internal and volunteer communications at American Diabetes Association. "Portals tend to be the leading vehicles for the implementation of Web 2.0 and enterprise social computing because of their rich user interface and interactive capabilities. We are in our initial planning stages and will use BEA AquaLogic(R) User Interaction as the starting point for our foray into MyADA 2.0 for our staff and volunteers."
BEA AquaLogic Interaction 6.5 Debuts
The new release of BEA AquaLogic(R) Interaction 6.5 delivers the industry's first full-fledged social computing platform, with a variety of new features that can help users harness the implicit interactions of day-to-day business -- project updates, new documents, process steps, key relationships, expertise, data changes in underlying systems -- that are often shared inefficiently through email. The release also introduces improved usability designed to empower knowledge workers to more easily share community information, find specific expertise and communicate more flexibly, by providing tools that are user-driven and community-centric, and by immersing users in a highly flexible collaborative experience bolstered by desktop, RSS and Web-based tools.
New features include:
-- Social profile pages: energized end-user profile pages, with new
features that are designed to allow users to communicate their status
and enable social networking and activity-sharing;
-- ActivityService(TM) and new extensibility points for harvesting user
interactions: a new REST-based API designed to allow systems to publish
activity updates to a centralized service that can render those updates
in end-user profile pages;
-- Comprehensive RSS production and consumption: a comprehensive
notification and subscription service that supports RSS generation to
track new activity on common objects, as well as immediate or summary
email updates. Additionally, the release features an RSS crawler, to
import content into the search index and knowledge management framework
via RSS;
-- Additional usability improvements: these include human readable URLs,
one-click page creation and edit menus, simplified wizard menus and
more;
-- Infrastructure improvements: these include support for .Net Framework
2.0 and IBM DB2
Portals and Collaboration: A New Way to Work Together
Portals continue to be an effective vehicle for increasing employee productivity and collaboration, and companies naturally turn to portals to enhance external collaboration between partners and customers. BEA AquaLogic(R) Interaction Collaboration 4.5 can help employees, customers and partners work together via the Web easily and efficiently. Users can share and manage documents and project information, engage in online discussions, and coordinate through notifications and synchronized calendars. BEA AquaLogic(R) Interaction Collaboration 4.5 extends these capabilities with enhanced notification options, deeper Microsoft Office integration, enhanced metadata support and general infrastructure enhancements.
New features include:
-- Enhanced notifications: a centralized notification and subscription
service designed to extend email notification by allowing users to
generate secure, personal RSS feeds, tracking activity on projects,
documents, discussions and task lists;
-- Improved MS Office integration: the release features a new Microsoft
Office Ribbon plug-in, which allows editing and managing project
documents directly from within Microsoft Office applications;
-- User interface improvements: with support for drag-and-drop design of
project overview pages and new modules for images and announcements;
Making Metrics and Usage Real-Time
An analytics tool for monitoring portal, Web application and enterprise mashups is critical in helping to maximize return on investment. BEA AquaLogic(R) Analytics 2.1 is designed to allow customers to determine how effectively people are using content, applications and information to collaborate and complete business tasks together using their deployed Web applications, portals and enterprise mashups.
New features include:
-- Collector clustering and failover: supports clustering of any number of
usage activity collectors, and built-in fault-tolerance;
-- Remote query API: a SOAP-based export API that developers can use to
extract data from the Analytics collector and visualize that data in
third-party tools;
-- Improved global filters: provide more granular activity reporting;
"Over the years, our portal customers have seen many benefits from using BEA's portal technology, including increased employee productivity and efficiency, reduced support and service costs, increased customer loyalty, consolidation of IT infrastructure, and lower operational costs via reduction in paper-based or manual processes," said Mark Carges, executive vice president at BEA Systems. "Now with innovative new social computing and Web 2.0 capabilities added to our portal platform, portals are once again being considered a leading vehicle for new modes of enterprise collaboration, productivity and participation."

PEER 1 Contest Eases IT Growing PainsBig Room Studios Wins 12 Months of Free Managed Hosting, Just in Time for Needed Expansion
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PEER 1, a leading provider of online IT infrastructure, has announced the winner of its Growing Pains Free Hosting Contest, with a prize of 12 months of free managed hosting, valued at more than $2400. Tim Mateosian, co-founder of Big Room Studios, has won a managed hosting server, which includes 1 TB of monthly data transfer and bi-weekly vulnerability scans. The open contest received more than 1,000 online entries from viewers of the premier episode of "Growing Pains," the company's humorous video-short series (http://www.peer1.com/growingpains/index.php?play).
"The best thing about this contest is that it truly helps Tim solve his IT 'growing pains' and expand his business," said Rajan Sodhi, vice president of marketing at PEER 1. "Business and tech managers go through many IT challenges as their online demands grow. Sharing their stories in entertaining ways can help others navigate the complexities of running an online business."
Headquartered in Portland, Maine, Big Room Studios (http://www.bigroomstudios.com/) specializes in offering combined online services, which primarily include web and print design, web development and IT support and consulting. Started in 2002 by Mateosian and his brother, the company now has clients throughout North America and the UK.
Mateosian has been a PEER 1 customer for nearly six years and has worked in the hosting industry for more than 10 years. He has always loved computers and technology and started in the industry as a hosting reseller. The business grew to include advanced web solutions when his brother, a talented programmer, joined and created a web framework for the firm. PEER 1's self- managed hosting is the ideal solution for this kind of programming, since the Mateosian brothers require more control over the server environment in order to run their web solutions.
"I am excited about winning the managed hosting contest. This is extremely good timing since our company is growing quickly and we were planning on expanding anyway," said Mateosian. "And I have never won anything before!"
PEER 1 will be holding a new contest, calling for contestants to create and upload their own "growing pains" video, in conjunction with the upcoming second episode of "Growing Pains" due out in May.

Developed by OmniTek, the platform enables a standard PC to support professional broadcast quality video processing, capable of streaming uncompressed video to and from the PC via 3G-SDI, Dual Link HD-SDI, HD-SDI, SDI and DVB-ASI connectivity. The AVDP includes free source code IP for scaling, de-interlacing and combining video channels, as well as optimized and flexible interfaces to the embedded PCI Express core in the FPGA and high-speed external memory. The platform offers a quick, low-risk route from prototyping to production for any broadcast system design.
JPEG2000 HD and DCI Codecs: Barco's new JPEG2000 encoder IP will be featured running on the AVDP. This demonstration will show compression of digital cinema and HD broadcast quality images using a single Virtex-5 FPGA on the AVDP and decompression using a single Virtex-4 FPGA on the Xilinx ML410 development platform. The JPEG2000 IP cores offer significant cost, performance and security advantages over typical codec ASSPs.
JPEG2000 HD and DCI Codecs: intoPIX will feature its new JPEG2000 encoder IP running on the AVDP. This demonstration will show compression of 2K and 4K images using a single Virtex-5 FPGA and decompression through the intoPIX decoder evaluation platform using a single Virtex-4 FPGA. Along with encryption and watermarking IP, the intoPIX JPEG2000 cores offer cost savings, higher performance and more security compared to ASSP-based designs.
Triple-Rate SDI Connectivity: Xilinx will demonstrate new triple-rate SDI reference designs supporting SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI on a single RocketIO(TM) pin. These designs are available free of charge in VHDL or Verilog source code to broadcast equipment manufacturers, enabling them to get to market quickly and easily adapt to 1080p60 standards as they become more broadly adopted. Also available are a wide range of new designs supporting SDI, HD-SDI, Dual Link HD-SDI, 3G-SDI Levels A & B, DVB-ASI, as well as conversion between standards. On the audio side, Xilinx offers reference designs for sample rate conversion at less than 130dB, AES interfaces, and new designs for embedding and de-embedding audio from HD-SDI streams. All of these enable the system architect to concentrate on the value-add portion of their design to deliver the features and benefits for end products that offer better differentiation.
Video over IP: Xilinx will demonstrate broadcast-quality video over IP connectivity by converting an ASI input to a gigabit Ethernet IP output with a Virtex-5 FPGA on the Xilinx ML505 development platform. A second ML505 development platform bridges from an IP input to ASI output. Each bridge is able to achieve full gigabit bandwidth on the IP link and handle up to eight channels of ASI. Packet recovery is demonstrated with the SMPTE 2002 (ProMPEG CoP3) FEC-compliant circuitry. This platform highlights a low risk and scalable FPGA solution for easily incorporating video over IP interfaces.

Elbit Systems Unveils its New LogoEnhances the New Re-Branding Process the Company Undertook During 2007 Designed to Strengthen Elbit Systems' Brand as a Unified Company
HAIFA, Israel, April 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Elbit Systems Ltd. unveiled today its new logo, marking the culmination of a Company-wide re-branding program undertaken during 2007. The re-branding program consisted of a Company-wide initiative to emphasize an identity that signifies the Company's rapid growth as well as integrates its subsidiaries, both in Israel and internationally, under a single unified brand.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080408/300441 )
The re-branding stemmed from Elbit Systems' extensive process of mergers and acquisitions over the last several years, both in Israel and worldwide. This began with the acquisition of Elop in 2000, and includes other substantial acquisitions, such as Tadiran Communications, Elisra and other companies in Israel and around the globe. Internal growth, as well as the addition of the new companies, substantiated the Company's position as one of the 40 largest defense industries worldwide.
At the same time, Elbit Systems' management decided to bring together Company units and wholly-owned subsidiaries under a single brand providing the Company with more consistent overall visibility as well as a unified identity throughout its various echelons.
As part of the re-branding process, a new logo was designed as a leading brand, emphasizing the commonality of the Company's business units. The new logo combines both new and familiar elements expressing both tradition and progress. Elements that existed in the former logo, designed 10 years ago and used by Elbit Systems since that time, were combined with up-to-date and fresh design elements.
For this purpose, the blue and yellow colors identified with Elbit Systems have been retained as has the graphic triangular shape of the Company's logo. However, new, dynamic and flowing elements that portray innovation and flexibility were added, reflecting an integral part of Elbit System's organizational culture. At the same time, each of the Company's units was given a unique expression as a number of their names were updated.The re-branding will not affect any formal structural status of the Company entities.
Elbit Systems' business operation in the U.S., managed by Elbit Systems of America, was part of the re-branding process and undertook a corresponding re-branding of its business units.
Elbit Systems is an international defense company, and is among the 40 largest defense industries worldwide. It is one of Israel's ten largest companies and a winner of 9 Israel Defense awards. In 2007 Elbit Systems sales volume amounted to $1.98 billion with a backlog of $4.6 billion.
