HDMI Licensing Appoints Steve Venuti as New LLC President; HDMI Adoption Continues to GrowHDMI grows its adopter base to more than 800 as digital connectivity expands into new product categories

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- HDMI Licensing, LLC, the agent responsible for licensing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) specification, today announced that Steve Venuti, 53, has been appointed president of the standards body, effective April 3, 2008. Venuti will continue to propel the HDMI specification forward as the worldwide standard for high-definition digital connectivity through industry education and key marketing initiatives, building on the momentum established by past president Leslie Chard.

As one of the initial employees of HDMI Licensing, LLC, Venuti was instrumental in the public launch of the HDMI standard in 2003. Over the past five years, he has held several senior-level positions, most recently serving as the HDMI Licensing, LLC's vice president of marketing. Venuti was a driving force behind the early adoption of the HDMI standard into the connected home by listening to and addressing the concerns of CE and PC retailers.

"More companies are featuring HDMI technology in their product lineups; it's the high-definition connection that the whole world is embracing," said Venuti. "Les Chard provided vital leadership in building the standard and growing it to the success it has achieved today."

To date, more than 800 consumer electronics (CE) and personal computer (PC) manufacturers globally have adopted the HDMI specification. This is up from the 750 adopters previously announced at CES in January 2008.

The HDMI specification is at the forefront of digital connectivity for high-definition consumer electronics. Manufacturers are continuing to roll out products with the most advanced HDMI 1.3 features currently on the market, including x.v. Color, Deep Color and the newest lossless HD audio formats from Dolby and DTS. The HDMI specification is found in more devices, such as gaming consoles, digital still cameras, camcorders and portable media players, as manufacturers meet consumer demand for multimedia convergence. Sony recently announced its S-Frame brand of digital photo frames, including the DPF-V900, DPF-V700 and DPF-D70, all of which have HDMI outputs for connection to an HDTV. HDMI Licensing, LLC is focused on bridging the gap between technology and the consumer.

Increased adoption of the HDMI specification has generated the need for marketing to not only CE and PC manufacturers, but also to retailers, installers and consumers -- segments where Venuti has already built strong relationships.

    About HDMI Licensing, LLC

HDMI Licensing, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silicon Image, Inc., is the agent responsible for licensing the HDMI specification, promoting the HDMI standard and providing education on the benefits of HDMI to retailers and consumers. The HDMI specification combines uncompressed high-definition video and multi-channel audio in a single digital interface to provide crystal-clear digital quality over a single cable. Garmin's(R) G950(TM) All-Glass, Standard Configuration Avionics for Aircraft Manufacturers

OLATHE, Kan., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today the G950 avionics suite, an all-glass avionics suite that is designed for aircraft manufacturers who want a standardized avionics configuration and will complete certification of their airframe's avionics panel on their own. Quartz Mountain Aerospace is the first manufacturer to select the G950 for its 11E aircraft, a four-seat, single-engine airplane that is newly in production.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20061026/CGTH082LOGO)

"The G950 is a step between the G900X and G1000," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's vice president of marketing. "The G900X is designed for non-certified kitbuilt planes and the G1000 is tailored to the specific aircraft that it will be installed on and generally includes the GFC 700 autopilot. The G950 fits a new niche -- one which we've received many requests for -- allowing OEMs with certified airframes to have the benefits of a proven, Garmin all-glass cockpit. Since the G950 isn't customizable and doesn't include the GFC 700 autopilot, OEMs will also have the benefit of a streamlined certification process."

The G950 integrates all primary flight, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, surveillance, weather, and engine sensor data on Garmin's high-definition LCDs. Manufacturers can select between a two or three display G950 system, and the TFT displays boast XGA (1,024x768-pixel) resolution with wide viewing angles. The G950 does not include Garmin's GFC 700 autopilot. The G950 is a highly reliable system that utilizes many of the same features found on Garmin's other popular avionics suites:

o The primary flight display (PFD) replaces many of the traditional cockpit instruments and presents this information in an integrated fashion on a large-format display, and the multi-function display (MFD) puts all aircraft-systems monitoring and flight-planning functions at the pilot's fingertips o Designed with reversionary capabilities, allowing all flight-critical data to transfer seamlessly to a single display for added safety during flight o Solid-state Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS), which can align while in motion, including in-flight dynamic restarts o Digital Air Data Computer o Engine-monitoring display o Mode S transponder with Traffic Information Service (TIS) o Dual integrated radio modules that supports VHF communications, VHF navigation with ILS and Class Gamma 3 WAAS that provides the capability to execute LPV approaches o Digital audio control system o Garmin SafeTaxi(R) airport diagrams that help pilots navigate unfamiliar airports o Garmin FliteCharts(R) for Terminal Procedures (with optional ChartView powered by Jeppesen)

The Garmin G950 will be on display at Quartz Mountain Aerospace's Sun 'n Fun trade show booth in Lakeland, Florida, April 8-13, 2008.

Isilon IQ Chosen to Create Universal Book LibraryUniversity of Michigan Partners with Google Book Search to Support Creation of Single, Virtual Library for All Books in All Languages;University leads Big-Ten Conference Effort to Digitize Millions of Books

SEATTLE, April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Isilon(R) Systems , the leader in clustered storage, today announced that the University of Michigan (U-M) has selected Isilon's IQ clustered storage system as the primary repository for its Michigan Digitization Project. In partnership with Google, the University of Michigan and its Michigan Digitization Project are digitizing more than 7.5 million books, ensuring these valuable resources are available to the public into perpetuity. This enormous undertaking includes the storage of digital copies of all unique books within the libraries of the entire Big-Ten Conference and directly supports Google Book Search, which aims to create a single, comprehensive, searchable, virtual card catalog of all books in all languages. The University of Michigan, in partnership with Indiana University (IU), is leveraging Isilon's IQ clustered storage system to create a Shared Digital Repository (SDR) of the universities' published library materials. Using Isilon IQ, U-M and IU are able consolidate digital copies of millions of books into one, single, shared pool of storage to meet the rapidly growing storage demand of its massive book digitization project.

"With millions of people now using Google as the starting point for information searches once conducted solely in libraries, creating digital copies of our texts for Google Book Search is not only a natural progression for our institution, but critical to providing world-class learning opportunities to people the world over," said John Wilkin, Associate University Librarian, University of Michigan.

"The underlying design of Isilon clustered storage, combined with its tightly-integrated, easy-to-use management utilities, leads us to believe that not only will our Isilon system easily scale to meet the huge demands of our project, but we'll spend less time upgrading and managing it," said Cory Snavely, Director of Library IT Core Services at the University of Michigan.

In conjunction with the Committee for Institutional Cooperation (CIC), an academic partnership formed by the universities of the Big-Ten Conference and the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan and Indiana University are working to create a Shared Digital Repository (SDR) which will mirror the content from U-M and the CIC libraries found in Google Book Search. Using Isilon IQ clustered storage, featuring its OneFS(R) operating system software, U-M has eliminated disparate data silos to create a shared pool of storage for the digitization efforts of these partner institutions.

Each digitized book is approximately 55 MB in size, downloading at a rate of 3 MB/second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the entire six year duration of the project. Isilon IQ reduces storage management time, enabling U-M to accelerate the book scanning process, preserve valuable materials, and ultimately expand the research and learning capabilities for millions of users across the globe.

"Our world is rapidly progressing to a day when all information -- be it news, academic research, entertainment, or scientific discoveries -- is available immediately, in digital form, through the power of online search technologies, such as Google," said Brett Goodwin, VP of Marketing & Business Development, Isilon Systems. "As witnessed in the exemplary case of the University of Michigan, supporting the mammoth effort to meet growing consumer demand and convert traditionally physical resources into digital formats requires a new kind of thinking -- and a new kind of storage. Isilon clustered storage was designed specifically for digital content and unstructured data, delivering unprecedented scalability, performance and ease of use to enable organizations, such as the University of Michigan, to maximize the value of their critical data and transform the way in which people consume information."

Powered by OneFS, Isilon IQ delivers the industry's first single file system that unifies and provides instant and ubiquitous access to the rapidly growing stores of digital content, eliminating the cost and complexity barriers of traditional storage architectures. OneFS is a unified operating system software layer that powers all of Isilon's award-winning family of IQ clustered storage systems including the Isilon IQ 200, 1920, 3000, 6000, 9000, 12000, Accelerator, and EX 6000, 9000 and 12000. Isilon also provides a robust suite of software applications including SnapshotIQ(TM), SmartConnect(TM), SmartQuotas(TM), MigrationIQ(TM) and SyncIQ(R) that leverage OneFS and clustered storage, providing the highest levels of data protection and automated data management.

Rice University Preserves History With Isilon IQDistinguished University and Research Institution Uses Isilon Clustered Storage to Create Central Digital Media Repository

SEATTLE, April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Isilon(R) Systems , the leader in clustered storage, today announced that Rice University has selected Isilon's IQ clustered storage system as its central repository for digital multimedia, including video of selected speeches by international dignitaries and musical performances from the Shepherd School of Music. In an effort to preserve the many historic events held at these prestigious venues and ensure the productions are available to the public into perpetuity, Rice has deployed Isilon clustered storage to consolidate hundreds of recorded musical performances and keynote speeches into a single, highly scalable and reliable shared pool of storage for the Rice Digital Scholarship Archive, an institutional repository based on the DSpace software platform.

"For decades, the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy and the Shepherd School have been renowned across the country for the prestigious litany of speakers and concerts held here at Rice University every year," said Geneva Henry, Executive Director, Digital Library Initiative, Rice University. "Isilon's clustered storage systems enable us to preserve and reliably deliver these one-of-a-kind events as part of our mission to cultivate a diverse community of learning and discovery that produces leaders across the spectrum of human endeavor."

Through a cooperative effort between Rice University's Digital Library Initiative, Fondren Library and Central IT department, the university has created a central repository for all its critical multi-media content, enabling a variety of departments to execute on vital, content-driven projects simultaneously, activity that was impossible with traditional storage. Prior to using Isilon IQ, Rice's storage management for the Digital Scholarship archiving system was unable to effectively support management of large digital video and audio files that required streaming for delivery. These assets, therefore, were stored on a variety of streaming servers by various groups across campus, creating multiple access bottlenecks that led to inefficient storage management and undue IT cost and complexity. By unifying all of its digital content onto one, easy to use, "pay as you grow" clustered storage system, Rice University has removed costly data access and management barriers and dramatically simplified its storage architecture. Additionally, using Isilon's SmartQuotas(TM) provisioning and quota management software application, Rice is also storing its Language Center's multi-media course work and its Central IT department's webcasts on Isilon IQ, delivering immediate, concurrent data access to multiple users and user groups, further reducing storage management costs to maximize system efficiency.

Rice University will stream its collection of musical performances from the Shepherd School, as well as its video library of the many world leaders and dignitaries that have spoken at the Baker Institute, to thousands of users online. This operation necessitates the use of multiple media servers, using Windows, Quicktime and Real Player formats. Isilon clustered storage communicates natively over CIFS, NFS FTP, and HTTP, as well as interoperating with Windows, Mac and Linux environments, enabling seamless integration with Rice's variety of server formats and enabling all content to be streamed from one, central, easily and immediately accessible storage system. With Isilon IQ, Rice's entire collection of multi-media is accessible to all its servers 24x7x365, ensuring that the media streaming operations are not only efficient and cost-effective, but prepared to meet high user demand.

"Digital content and unstructured data is the fastest growing category of data on earth and is overwhelming traditional storage systems, which were not designed to cost-effectively store and manage the large file sizes, rapid growth and multiple formats common to this category of data," said Brett Goodwin, VP of Marketing & Business Development, Isilon Systems. "As digital content continues to infiltrate organizations, a new storage architecture is necessary to not only efficiently store and manage this data, but also interoperate with the multiple formats and native systems through which this data is created and accessed. Rice University's use of Isilon IQ to unify disparate silos of data and enable multiple departments to concurrently access critical content is exemplary of how clustered storage can significantly reduce storage costs and streamline IT operations."

Powered by OneFS(R), Isilon IQ delivers the industry's first single file system that unifies and provides instant and ubiquitous access to the rapidly growing stores of digital content, eliminating the cost and complexity barriers of traditional storage architectures. Alcatel-Lucent selects Sierra Wireless embedded modules for secure high-speed mobile broadband accessSierra Wireless embedded modules provide mobile broadband connectivity within Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian enterprise security solution

VANCOUVER, April 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sierra Wireless today announced that Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE : ALU) has selected Sierra Wireless to supply embedded modules for its ground-breaking wireless laptop security, management, and tracking system, the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG). Sierra Wireless is also working with Alcatel-Lucent on expansion and future generations of the NLG for 3G networks.

The Sierra Wireless modules embedded in the NLG provide reliable high-speed access to mobile broadband networks. For enterprise users, this enables convenient access from their laptops to email and information on corporate servers while working remotely, without the hassle of searching for a Wi-Fi hotspot. What sets the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian wireless platform apart from other mobile broadband access solutions is that IT staff can now use the mobile broadband connection to address the "mobile blindspot," by remotely protecting sensitive data on employees' mobile laptops anytime, anywhere, even when the laptop is powered off, or in the event of a loss or theft. This enables organizations to extend the same level of robust security that is available for computers within the enterprise network to laptops distributed across a mobile workforce.

"Alcatel-Lucent recognizes security begins at the user level. Using Sierra Wireless embedded modules for access to laptops through the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, enables IT departments to better manage the expanding mobile workforce," said Dor Skuler, general manager for Alcatel-Lucent's enterprise mobile security solutions.

"As more employees become mobile, enterprises are understandably concerned with sensitive information carried on laptops, and the growing ubiquity of cellular data coverage makes it a practical tool to employ in addressing these concerns," said Dan Schieler, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales for Sierra Wireless. "Sierra Wireless is pleased to collaborate with Alcatel-Lucent in delivering this innovative security solution to enterprise customers."

Comarch lance OSS Mobile Network Integration

The United Kingdom's Cabinet Office Standardises on Autonomy Meridio's Records Management SolutionMeridio Solution Helps the UK Government Administration to Retain and Leverage Institutional Knowledge

CAMBRIDGE, England and BELFAST, Northern Ireland, April 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Meridio, an Autonomy company and the leading provider of Records Management software, today announced that the United Kingdom's Cabinet Office has deployed its records management solution to manage and control hundreds of thousands of electronic documents and records across the government organization.

The UK Cabinet Office sits at the very centre of government and, together with the Treasury, provides the 'head office' of government. The Cabinet Office performs three core functions that enable it to fulfill its overarching purpose of making the government work better for the UK citizens, which include: supporting the Prime Minister to define and deliver the Government's objectives, supporting the Cabinet to drive the coherence, quality and delivery of policy and operations across departments and strengthening the Civil Service to ensure the civil service is organised effectively and has the capability in terms of skills, values and leadership to deliver the Government's objectives.

The Cabinet Office sets an example in the delivery of policy, process and implementation. At the same time, it often experiences a high degree of change due to both high staff turnover, which can reach 30 percent a year, and other government organizational changes. With Meridio's highly flexible and scalable records management solution, the Cabinet Office is able to retain its organizational memory, achieve superior control over document and records, and improve collaboration productivity throughout the organization. The centralized system, which is accessible from users' desktops, makes sharing documents easy and is a major contributor to improved collaborative working across the organization. Processes which rely on information sharing such as meeting minutes, report approval, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and staff recruitment can now be processed much more efficiently and require less manual labor.

"The UK Cabinet Office's use of Meridio's records management solution is helping us to meet our business objectives through improved collaborative working," said Celia Wood, deputy director of eDRM, Cabinet Office. "Its simple interface, transparently integrated with our Microsoft Office Systems, has meant that staff across the organization are seeing early benefits from the control and sharing of documents and protection of our Organizational Memory."

"There is a growing need for all government organizations to improve efficiency and at the same time tightly control the increasing volume of email and other electronic documents," said Brian Baird, CEO of Autonomy Meridio. "Meridio's records management solution is becoming the de facto standard for agencies that need to demonstrate corporate governance while realizing cost savings and improvements in service delivery."

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Novellus Systems, Inc. , today announced preliminary financial results for its first fiscal quarter ended March 29, 2008.

Revenue for the first quarter is expected to be at the low end of the previously communicated range of $315 million to $325 million. Net income is expected to be between $0.15 and $0.17 per fully diluted share versus the range of $0.21 to $0.24 which was communicated on February 28, 2008 during the Company's mid-quarter update call.

"Although revenues are expected to be at the low end of our expected range, earnings per share are expected to fall short of expectations," said Jeff Benzing, Executive Vice President. "The expected shortfall in earnings per share is the result of a number of factors including a less-favorable than expected product mix combined with higher manufacturing spending in our industrial applications segment, a larger than expected inventory write-down related to evaluation units in our semiconductor segment, and an increase in our forecasted tax rate."

These expected first-quarter operating results are preliminary and subject to management and the Company's auditors completing their quarterly closing review procedures.

SST All-in-OneMemory Wins Editor's Choice Award From Portable Design Magazine

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.) , a leader in flash memory technology, is pleased to announce that its managed memory subsystem solution, All-in-OneMemory, is the recipient of an Editor's Choice Award from Portable Design magazine. Awarded annually, Portable Design's Editor's Choice Awards recognize innovative electronic components that make possible the design of leading-edge portable products. The SST88VP1107 All-in-OneMemory chip received the award in the Memory category. This marks the third award or award nomination that SST's All-in-OneMemory has received since its introduction last year.

"Every year Portable Design singles out for recognition those new products that we consider to be the most innovative, choosing from among the thousands of product releases that cross our desks," said John Donovan, Portable Design's Editor-in-Chief. "This year has seen an outpouring of highly creative, and some potentially disruptive, products and we believe SST's All-in-OneMemory fits this description."

According to Bing Yeh, president and CEO, SST, "We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award from Portable Design. It's yet another indication that our All-in-OneMemory product has struck a chord within the electronics industry."

    About All-in-OneMemory

SST All-in-OneMemory offers designers an easy-to-use, single-package memory subsystem with the full benefits of NOR, NAND and RAM memory for code and data storage. Functionally, All-in-OneMemory is the combination of a high-density NOR, a system RAM and a solid-state drive. The high-density NOR consists of two partitions, a typical size NOR for fast and secure boot-up, and a large Pseudo-NOR (PNOR) memory for storing and executing operating system and application code. PNOR is an emulated NOR consisting of a multi-gigabit NAND for nonvolatile storage and a RAM cache for high-speed random access.

All-in-OneMemory products offer several key benefits not found in alternative memory solutions. It uses a simple PSRAM/Burst-NOR bus to interface with the host processor/chipset, which makes the system design easier and helps speed time-to-market. All-in-OneMemory intelligently manages all memory components with a resident 32-bit microcontroller-based advanced memory controller. This enables All-in-OneMemory to offer a large and expandable XIP (Execute-In-Place) code area, instant secure boot-up, memory demand-paging, NAND flash management, and an industry standard ATA data storage protocol on the PSRAM/Burst-NOR bus.

To further reduce system complexity and lower overall system cost, All-in-OneMemory is housed in a small-footprint BGA package. SST All-in-OneMemory is designed for a wide range of embedded system applications, including multimedia-enabled cell phones, portable media players, digital still/video cameras, personal navigation devices, set-top boxes, IPTVs, gaming devices, medical equipment and industrial systems.

Comarch Launches OSS Mobile Network Integration

KRAKOW, Poland, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Comarch announces the launch of OSS Mobile Network Integration - a preconfigured OSS solution for GSM/UMTS operators, who search for a NGOSS concept-based product, in the area of inventory management or service assurance. The software bundle is based on Comarch OSS Suite - a network and service management platform and is the result of years of experience in OSS projects with large European mobile operators.

    - The most important factor in the OSS Mobile Network Integration is that it is based on best practices proven in the industry and is intended to help operators decrease integration costs - the largest headache for OSS managers. The integration bundle tailored for mobile operators is the result of a long history of successful OSS implementations and is a very important part of our strategy of promoting our strong portfolio - says Piotr Piatosa, VP Telecommunications, Comarch SA.

The solution contains pre-integrated components realizing best practices and the processes of readiness, assurance and fulfillment from the eTOM framework, along with an extensive library of preconfigured adapters - components dedicated for integration with most popular software and hardware vendors and standardized APIs. The solution contains integration libraries for network domains common for all mobile operators.

Thanks to its experience, Comarch has been able to provide set of specialized products which have been successfully implemented in multiple networks. Originating from configuration and fault management systems, the Comarch OSS Suite consequently developed its own solutions into a powerful and flexible family of modern products. Today, the platform covers areas like resource and service inventory management, top-down service assurance, reconciliation and provisioning strategies and process management with workflow and automations.

    - One of the advantages of developing Comarch OSS Suite is an opportunity to have an inside view of the operators' businesses. From this perspective it becomes obvious that despite geographical, architectural, cultural and scale differences, mobile operators share a number of similarities. They all struggle with the full planning-operational inventory lifecycle, work towards a complete network-service view, look for constant process optimization in a contract-driven architecture and, quite often, must integrate the same vendors. OSS Mobile Integration provides a well-proven solution for these challenges - says Krzysztof Jasek, OSS Product Manager, Comarch SA.
