Verizon Makes Digital Television Upgrade Easy for FiOS TV Customers in Richmond, Virginia Beach AreasOnly Verizon Delivers All-Digital TV Over the Nation's Most Advanced Fiber-Optic Network, Straight to Customers' Doors
RICHMOND, Va., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- With the federal mandate to phase out analog television broadcasts approaching in early 2009, many consumers remain uncertain of what the change means for them. However, Verizon FiOS TV customers are ahead of the game. Verizon FiOS TV is already all-digital, so for most customers there will be no change. At the same time, Verizon is making other changes, and it is taking steps to ensure that customers are not confused by the phaseout of analog broadcasts.
Verizon is phasing out a small number of duplicate analog channels on the FiOS TV service so all customers will enjoy better-quality, all-digital viewing experiences on every set in their homes. Until now, Verizon has provided these duplicate channels to allow digital subscribers to view some limited programming in an analog format without using a set-top box.
The company also has a small number of customers who subscribe to a service that solely offers these duplicate analog channels. Verizon will make the digital transition easy for these customers by providing them with a free digital adapter.
"As we phase out our local analog simulcasts this year, we want to make sure that our small number of affected customers can continue receiving this programming on sets they are using without a set-top box," said Mary Ellen Payne, vice president of sales and marketing for Verizon's Potomac region. "We're reaching out to those customers now to help them get their free converter box from us so they can enjoy high-quality digital programming on every set in the home."
Customers may also choose to upgrade to a set-top box that lets them see more programming, including high-definition channels, and enables full-featured, interactive services, like extensive video-on-demand programming and Verizon's innovative interactive media guide.
Verizon will phase out the analog channels on a regional basis. The transition occurred for Richmond-area FiOS TV customers on April 7, and it will occur starting April 14 for Virginia Beach-area FiOS TV customers. Customers have been notified well in advance by letters, e-mails and phone calls from Verizon. The company also has set up a dedicated Web site, http://www.verizon.com/godigital, to provide answers to common questions about all-digital service.
Advantages of Upgrading to FiOS TV
TV fans who either do not receive all-digital programming from their TV service provider, or who receive only over-the-air broadcasts without a cable or satellite connection, should consider switching to FiOS TV.
"FiOS TV makes any TV look incredible - even analog sets," said Payne. "The change broadcasters are making to digital signals doesn't mean you need a new TV, but now is a good time to consider the network you're using. When you subscribe to FiOS TV you can have the peace of mind of knowing that you're receiving superior quality, all-digital programming delivered over the nation's most advanced fiber-optic network straight to your home."
Verizon's fiber network delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen. Verizon's FiOS TV Premier package delivers more than 200 all-digital channels, including 27 high-definition (HD) channels in the Richmond and Virginia Beach markets and access to more than 10,000 on-demand titles, 70 percent of which are free. The video-on-demand library also now includes an increasing number of high-definition titles.
Verizon also offers innovative features not available from other providers, such as Home Media DVR (digital video recorder) and FiOS TV Widgets that give instant access to information like local weather and traffic conditions. Home Media DVR has a multi-room DVR feature enabling up to three simultaneous viewings of recorded programs without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment. Customers also can access photos and music on their PCs and play them on their TV.
The value of FiOS TV extends to the installation and customer support. Specially trained Verizon technicians will install the service and demonstrate FiOS TV features and services.
Virginia consumers can check online at http://www.verizon.com/fiostv to learn more. Customers can also call their local Verizon sales office or 888-438-3467.

Orange Selects Eutelsat's HOT BIRD(TM) and ATLANTIC BIRD(TM) 3 Satellites to Complete TV ADSL CoverageNew Agreement to Enable all Homes in France to Benefit From the Orange Triple Play Offer (Telephone, Internet, TV)Either Via ADSL, or by Satellite Associated With ADSL for Homes Not Eligible for TV Via ADSL
PARIS, April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With the announcement at MIPTV 2008 in Cannes of the launch of Orange cinema series, Orange has confirmed its selection of two Eutelsat premium video neighbourhoods, HOT BIRD(TM) and ATLANTIC BIRD(TM) 3, to broadcast by satellite the TV component of its triple play offer (telephone, Internet, TV) in cases where it is not accessible via ADSL.
Broadcast from Eutelsat's 13 degrees East and 5 degrees West neighbourhoods, this offer will be available to homes subscribing to an Orange triple play offer and equipped with a satellite dish for Direct-to-Home (DTH) reception. A new decoder interfacing with the livebox will enable the satellite-delivered Orange TV signal to be bundled with Internet access and telephony provided via an ADSL connection. The process will be transparent for users.
Satellite broadcasting of Orange TV's programmes will be launched simultaneously in summer 2008 from Eutelsat's HOT BIRD(TM) and ATLANTIC BIRD(TM) 3 satellites located at 13 degrees East and 5 degrees West respectively. In terms of the French market, these two neighbourhoods already reach an installed base of 4.8 million DTH antennas. As the longstanding position to which French homes located beyond range of terrestrial reception point their antennas for French analogue television channels, 5 degrees West will also give Orange TV the added benefit of very high penetration in rural areas. Transmission of Orange TV programmes, including provision of satellite capacity and ground services, will be managed by GlobeCast, a subsidiary of France Telecom and one of Eutelsat's major partners.

offre triple play d'Orange.

First-of-its-kind Search Engine to Deliver more Relevant Search Results to the Black Community launches April 10From IAC & Black Web Enterprises, Ground-breaking New Site Offers News, Information and Jobs for the Black Community
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IAC, one of the world's largest internet services companies, together with Black Web Enterprises (BWE), today launched RushmoreDrive.com- the first-of-its-kind online search engine designed exclusively for the Black community. The new search engine combines basic search results, with mainstream findings, to deliver information specifically tailored to a Black audience.
"Finally, Black people across the country have a search engine that is shaped by the interests and usage of the Black community," says RushmoreDrive.com President and CEO, Johnny Taylor. "Mainstream search engines and professional networking communities fail to easily provide information relevant to a Black audience and current search tools often do not deliver search results from Black Web sites in the first several pages of results. RushmoreDrive.com will deliver a highly relevant Web search experience for the Black community, plus two highly relevant online search activities - News Search and Jobs Search." Mr. Taylor added, "We are going to be the online home for all Black people in America whether they be African American, Black Caribbean, Black Hispanic, or people of African heritage. RushmoreDrive.com will come to reflect the behavior patterns of its users, making it an authoritative source on issues of concern and items of interest to the Black community."
As one of its first public awareness initiatives, RushmoreDrive.com will introduce Road to November 4, an interactive online forum for the Black community with tools and information about the 2008 Presidential Election. RushmoreDrive.com invited all of the candidates to participate and Senator Hillary Clinton accepted. Senator Clinton will share her thoughts on the importance of the election in the Black community and she will answer a question each day from a member of our community from April 10-17, 2008.

US Environmental Protection Agency Awards CGI Federal $83 million Financial System Modernization ProjectStock Market Symbols GIB.A (TSX) GIB (NYSE)
FAIRFAX, VA, April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CGI Federal, Inc., a wholly-owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc., (NYSE: GIB; TSX: GIB.A), today announced that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed its original award to CGI as the financial management shared service provider (SSP) for EPA's Financial System Modernization Project (FSMP). The 10-year deal, valued at US$83 million, modernizes EPA's financial system using CGI's commercial off the shelf Momentum(R) software, and transitions EPA's financial system IT hosting and application management to CGI. CGI was originally selected for the FSMP award in February of 2007. The selection of CGI was upheld after resolution of a protest by IBM that was filed against the initial award.
"EPA has been a CGI client for over 30 years. As a recognized leader in delivering managed services for government and commercial customers, we look forward to continuing service to EPA as their financial systems provider," said Donna Morea, President of CGI's U.S. operations. "This award is testament to CGI's commitment to service delivery excellence and validates our strategy of delivering the full spectrum of managed services across technology management, application management, systems integration and consulting and business process services to the federal government."
EPA's FSMP award to CGI culminates the first large-scale financial system procurement conducted by a CFO Act federal agency under the Financial Management Line of Business (FMLoB) initiative. It is the first time a federal agency has conducted a full and open FMLoB competition across both public and private sector shared service providers, holding them to the same standards in offer evaluation. CGI, bidding its commercial off the shelf Momentum software, was selected over both private and public sector SSPs. EPA joins the General Services Administration (GSA), the Administrative Office for the U.S. Courts (AOUSC), and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in awarding financial system shared services contracts to CGI. All three clients are currently using Momentum hosted with CGI.
"To meet EPA's operational business needs, CGI continues to provide innovative solutions as a recognized leader in managed services," said George Schindler, President, CGI Federal. "Our selection confirms CGI and Momentum as the market leading FMLoB solution that best enables agencies to improve mission support, comply with federal accounting and system standards, and modernize on a large-scale with the greatest efficiency and lowest risk."
About Momentum(R)
The CGI Federal Momentum financial management software uses state-of-the art open Web technology standards to simplify system deployment and enable interoperability with external systems. This Web based version allows federal agencies to easily implement Momentum across their enterprise. The solution is offered as a government-certified commercial off the shelf product for federal agencies as well as part of a turnkey IT and business process service for federal agencies seeking new solutions under the Federal Financial Management Line of Business initiative. Over 100 U.S. federal government organizations currently use Momentum.

TV Choice and Competition Near for Residents of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.Village Approves Video Franchise for Verizon
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Residents of Wappingers Falls in Dutchess County are a major step closer to having a real choice for their cable television service, thanks to a newly approved agreement authorizing Verizon to offer its FiOS TV service, delivered over the most advanced fiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.
The Wappingers Falls Village Board of Trustees granted a video franchise to Verizon Wednesday night (April 9), paving the way for video choice in the community. This vote brings to 106 the total number of New York communities that have approved video franchises for Verizon. Nearby Wappinger awarded a TV franchise to Verizon on March 24.
"This is great news for residents of Wappingers Falls, who now will have a new choice for their video entertainment," said Monica Azare, Verizon senior vice president for New York and Connecticut. "Consumers here will be able to choose their cable provider as easily as they choose their phone company. Competition like this drives innovation and value, and puts the consumer in control."
As with all local franchise approvals in New York, the agreement between Verizon and Wappingers Falls is subject to review by the New York State Public Service Commission.
Verizon's FiOS TV is a formidable competitor to cable and satellite, offering a broad collection of all-digital programming, 30 high-definition (HD) channels in the New York market and access to more than 10,000 on-demand titles, 70 percent of which are free.
Verizon's fiber network delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen. In addition to FiOS TV, Verizon's fiber network also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps, as well as high-quality voice service.*
Wappingers Falls joins a growing list of New York communities that are paving the way for competition and choice in the television market. In addition to Wappingers Falls, Verizon has been granted video franchises in the following communities:
Dutchess County

Staten Island Residents Reminded to Recycle Old Cell Phones at Spring Electronics Recycling Event, April 12 and 13NYC Department of Sanitation and Office To Combat Domestic Violence Join Verizon Wireless to Recycle Cell Phones to Aid Survivors of Domestic Violence
NEW YORK, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty is reminding Staten Island residents that the New York City Department of Sanitation's Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling is teaming up with Verizon Wireless to collect old cell phones at its annual Electronics Recycling and Clothing Donation events this spring. Doherty is urging all New York City residents to donate their old, unused wireless phones to help survivors of domestic violence.
Staten Island residents are asked to bring their old phones to the recycling event on Saturday, April 12 and/or Sunday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The event will be held at the Fresh Kills Composting Site; 310 West Service Road, near exit 7 off Route 440.
All collected phones will be donated to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine(R) program, which will refurbish, recycle or sell the phones and donate the proceeds to domestic violence advocacy groups in the form of cash grants and prepaid wireless phones for victims. Phones that cannot be refurbished are disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.
"Joining forces with Verizon Wireless' HopeLine program creates a win-win situation for the residents of New York City," said Commissioner Doherty. "We're always interested in programs that encourage reusing items that otherwise might end up in the waste stream. When you donate your old phone to HopeLine, you'll not only give a product a second life - you'll also give a family in need a second chance at life."
The City has held two electronics recycling events so far this spring, one in Manhattan and one in the Bronx. Collectively, over 5,000 people have responded and recycled nearly 750 pounds of cell phones.
Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle old cell phones and has done so since January 1999 - first in New York and then across the U.S. To date, thanks to conscientious consumers, the company's national HopeLine program has:
* Kept more than 200 tons of electronics waste and batteries out of
landfills.
* Collected nearly 4.5 million wireless phones.
* Properly disposed of nearly 1 million wireless phones.
* Recycled more than 170,000 pounds of batteries in cooperation with
Call2Recycle(TM)
"HopeLine was created more than 10 years ago as a means for Verizon Wireless to put its products and services to work to help survivors of domestic violence and help the environment at the same time," said Pat Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro Region. "More than $5 million in cash grants has been awarded to local shelters and groups working to fight family violence across the nation, and nearly 60,000 wireless phones with airtime have helped survivors rebuild their lives."
Locally, HopeLine's direct and in-kind donations total nearly $900,000 including more than $150,000 to the New York City Family Justice Center Initiative.
"Many of us take our cell phones for granted," said Commissioner Yolanda Jimenez of the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence. "But for a woman who is being abused or stalked, it is often her first line of defense."
In addition to the City's neighborhood recycling events, HopeLine phone donations are accepted year-round at all Verizon Wireless Communications Stores in New York City and across the nation. For store locations and additional information, visit http://www.verizonwireless.com/hopeline.

About New York City's Department of Sanitation
Since 1881, when the New York City Department of Sanitation -- originally known as the Department of Street Cleaning -- was founded, waste collection and disposal have come virtually full circle. At the end of the 19th century, one of the Department's most prolific commissioners, Colonel George Waring, instituted efficiencies and waste reduction programs that foretold the programs of today -- including recycling, street sweeping and a dedicated uniformed cleaning and collection force. Today, the Department is the world's largest, collecting over 12,000 tons of residential and institutional refuse and recyclables a day. The City's businesses, whose waste is collected by private carting companies, generate another 13,000 tons of refuse each day. And under the leadership of Commissioner John J. Doherty, New York City's streets are cleaner today then they have been in over 30 years.

Even More New Jersey Consumers Can Benefit From Choice and Competition as Verizon Launches FiOS TV in Six More CommunitiesNew Fiber-Optic Service Now Available in Two Additional Burlington County Communities, Three More Middlesex County Towns and Palisades Park in Bergen County
NEWARK, N.J., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- An innovative, reliable and competitive alternative to cable TV is coming to even more New Jersey consumers as Verizon expands its industry-leading FiOS TV service, which is provided on the nation's most advanced fiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.
Verizon is now taking orders for FiOS TV in parts of Mount Holly and Westampton in Burlington County; Helmetta, Jamesburg and Spotswood in Middlesex County; and Pallisades Park in Bergen.
The company now offers FiOS TV in more than 280 New Jersey communities, with many more to come later this year.
"Residents of these communities now can join the other New Jersey consumers who have been given an outstanding, superior choice for their video entertainment," said Dennis Bone, president of Verizon New Jersey. "FiOS TV brings something to consumers they've never had before, with incredible pictures and sound clarity and innovative new services - all from a brand they know and trust."
William Foshay, senior vice president and general manager of Verizon in New Jersey, said, "Customers who liked what FiOS did for their Internet connection will love what it does for their TV. We've harnessed the vast capacity of our advanced fiber-optic network to deliver a revolutionary, new entertainment experience."
New Jersey consumers can check online at http://www.verizon.com/nj/savebig to see if FiOS TV is already available in their area, or to request that Verizon contact them when FiOS TV becomes available. Customers also can call their local Verizon sales office or 888-438-3467.
Service Highlights
Verizon's FiOS TV Premier package delivers more than 200 all-digital channels, including more than 30 high-definition (HD) channels in the New Jersey market and access to more than 10,000 on-demand titles, 70 percent of which are free. In addition, Verizon announced last week that more FiOS TV customers can enjoy even more high-definition programming now that the company has launched high-definition video-on-demand (VOD) service in parts of eight more states, including New Jersey.
Verizon offers three set-top boxes: standard definition for $5.99 per month; high definition, which includes HD channels, for $9.99 per month; and a dual-tuner digital video recorder for $12.99 per month.
Verizon also offers innovative features not available from other providers, such as Home Media DVR (digital video recorder) and FiOS TV Widgets. Home Media DVR has a multi-room DVR feature enabling up to three simultaneous viewings of recorded programs without requiring customers to set up a complex home network or buy extra equipment. Customers also can access photos and music on their PCs and play them on their TV. FiOS TV Widgets is a free interactive feature that provides viewers with local weather and traffic information while they're watching their favorite shows.
Delivered over Verizon's fiber-optic network, FiOS TV is a formidable competitor to cable and satellite. Verizon's fiber network delivers amazingly sharp pictures and sound, and has the capacity to transmit a wide array of high-definition programming that is so clear and intense it seems to leap from the TV screen. The company's fiber network also delivers Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds of up to 20 Mbps, as well as high-quality voice service.*
The value of FiOS TV extends to the installation and customer support. Specially trained Verizon technicians will install the service and acquaint subscribers with FiOS TV features and services. Verizon is waiving the installation fee for up to three existing TV outlets, and there is no charge to install a needed optical network terminal at the subscriber's home. Charges for other installation services, such as additional outlets, may apply. Verizon provides 24 x 7 technical assistance by phone from its specialized Fiber Solutions Centers.

ARRIS Debuts 1 GHz CORWaveCORWave Enables MSOs to Leverage Existing HFC for Business Services, HD-On-Demand and SDV
SUWANEE, Ga., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ARRIS today announced the availability of its 1 GHz CHP CORWave 'closely spaced' CWDM downstream optics. CORWave enables the essential delivery of HD SDV, On Demand and business services on existing MSO fiber networks with superior quality service levels. CORWave was recently certified by a top 3 U.S. cable operator and is scheduled to be deployed by them this quarter. CORWave is an extension of the broadly-deployed, field proven CHP CWDM optics that deliver more capacity over longer-link distances on existing fiber.
When deployed with the ARRIS OptiMax4100 4x4 segmentable nodes, CORWave enables simple, robust multiplexing of twelve wavelengths: four forward, four return and four bidirectional all on one fiber with a link length of up to 25 kilometers. The bidirectional wavelengths are ideally suited for business service applications. When deployed with any of the ARRIS OptiMax segmentable nodes in a 2x2 configuration, CORWave enables longer link lengths of up to 30 kilometers. Furthermore, the technology allows operators the flexibility to select the most cost-efficient solution for their system while recovering fiber for other revenue-generating services.
The CORWave product can be deployed by operators with minimal disruption to consumers without sacrificing their consumers' quality of service.
"Our customers are very clear; their top two priorities are pulling more capacity from existing infrastructure and tapping into commercial businesses opportunities without new infrastructure," said John Caezza, President, ARRIS Access, Transport and Supplies. "We built CORWave so that it can expand existing fiber capacity up to 400% both up and downstream, and deliver GbE based data services on very limited fiber counts."
"ARRIS has over a decade of experience in the design and deployment of multi-wavelength systems and more than 15,000 CHP optical multi-wavelength transmitters deployed since mid 2006," Caezza further stated. "This field-proven expertise helps ensure an efficient, robust and reliable solution for network service providers."

Pregnancy and Cancer Top the List Of the Most Commonly Searched Health ConditionsPfizer's Smoking Cessation Treatment, Chantix, Emerges as the Number One Most Frequently Searched Prescription Brand
RESTON, Va., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- comScore, Inc. , a leader in measuring the digital world, today released a listing of the 20 most commonly searched health conditions as well as the 15 most commonly searched prescription brands in February 2008. The results, from comScore's custom search capability, revealed that the terms "pregnancy" and "cancer" were the two most frequently searched conditions, garnering 8.8 million and 7.7 million search queries respectively. That five of the 20 conditions (herpes, HIV, HPV, menopause and pregnancy) relate to sexual or reproductive health may be a function of these conditions' highly personal nature and the anonymity the Internet provides.

"It's not too surprising that some of the most common health conditions, such as diabetes, depression and flu, have made the list, but it's interesting that these terms generate fewer searches than significantly less prevalent conditions like cancer and pregnancy. A reason for this may be due to life-changing nature of a cancer diagnosis or a pregnancy," said Carolina Petrini, comScore senior vice president. "When facing a serious illness like cancer or after becoming pregnant or considering pregnancy, consumers often turn to the Internet to search for information and educate themselves in a private setting. comScore's findings, along with information about the search popularity of branded terms provide meaningful insights into the ways consumers use search to find health information online."
Chantix Reigns as the Most Frequently Searched Brand but Depression Drugs Dominate List.
The study also looked at the top 15 most commonly searched prescription brand name treatments and found that Pfizer's Chantix, a smoking cessation treatment, topped the list, generating more than 500,000 search queries in February 2008. Adderall (a commonly prescribed ADHD treatment) and Viagra (a popular erectile dysfunction treatment) came in a close second and third on the list, respectively.
Additionally, four of the fifteen most frequently searched prescription brands -- Cymbalta, Effexor, Lexapro, and Prozac -- are depression treatments. For patients seeking information about this highly personal condition, the Internet provides an ideal channel.

Additional Insights:
-- The top searched health condition, "pregnancy," is searched 17 times
more often than the most popularly searched brand name, "Chantix."
-- The second most searched term, "cancer," garnered 7.7 million search
queries in February. Of those queries, 1 million were specific to the
term "breast cancer."
-- The number of searches for ADHD (573,000) was very similar to the
number of searches for the ADHD treatment, Adderall (469,000). Because
the popularity of condition versus brand searches differs based on
condition, this data supports the need for marketers to evaluate their
therapeutic area's online search landscape so they can properly
allocate resources toward strategic, non-branded and branded search
campaigns.
-- A condition's prevalence is not necessarily correlated to its search
popularity. For instance, according to data from the American Diabetes
Association and the National Institute of Health, there are several
million more people living in the United States with diabetes than with
cancer. However, the number of search queries for the term "cancer"
(7.7 million) was more than four times the number of search queries for
the term "diabetes" (1.8 million).
-- A comparison of the search terms "pregnancy" (which garnered 8.8
million searches) and "cholesterol" (which garnered less than a million
searches) revealed a similar discrepancy. In the United States,
approximately 4 million women a year give birth (as reported by the
American Pregnancy Association), while nearly 40 million people suffer
from high cholesterol (as reported by the American Heart Association).
-- Historically, awareness of Fibromyalgia -- which was the twentieth most
popularly searched health condition -- has been low and resources have
been scarce. However, searches for the treatment have likely grown in
the past couple of months due to the recent approval of Pfizer's Lyrica
as a treatment for the condition. The relatively large number of
searches for Fibromyalgia, is likely a result of marketing around
Lyrica which has helped to raise awareness of the condition.

A) network technology, BroadbandAccess provides mobile workers with the ability to access their corporate information as if they were attached to this data via a high-speed wired connection but with the freedom of true mobility. Developed with a range of users in mind, the service enables large enterprises, small- to medium-sized businesses and mobile professionals to conduct business anytime, anywhere in the BroadbandAccess coverage area via a secure, true high-speed data connection.
With BroadbandAccess, business customers, residents and visitors to these Indiana communities can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. That means they can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.
BroadbandAccess also enables Verizon Wireless customers to download files significantly faster than customers of wireless service providers that use different broadly deployed network technologies. Furthermore, customers who travel outside the enhanced BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to the company's NationalAccess service.
"Our enhanced BroadbandAccess service gives our customers three key advantages in wireless communication -- speed, mobility and security," Haller said. "With these advantages comes an increase in productivity and bottom-line business benefits."
V CAST: Video and Music
Verizon Wireless' wireless broadband network also enables its V CAST multimedia services, which offer customers the ability to download full-song tracks, play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to their handsets with top transmission speeds. With content updated daily, customers can watch dozens of on demand videos, including breaking news, weather updates, sports highlights, and the hottest entertainment clips.
With V CAST Music, Verizon Wireless has built a massive full-song mobile music store that contains more than 2.8 million songs -- from well-known as well as independent artists -- that customers can download over-the-air, directly onto their V CAST Music-enabled wireless phones.
Investment
The multi-million dollar expansion includes the installation of high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the region. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $44 billion since it was formed -- more than $5.5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. More than $870 million of this investment was spent in Indiana since 2001. In 2007, the company invested more than $136 million in Indiana network improvements.
Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States. These communities in Indiana are the latest market to be added to the coverage. Raytheon Named Top Training Provider by HRO Today
DALLAS, April 10, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- HRO Today named Raytheon Professional Services LLC (RPS), a subsidiary of Raytheon Company , to the magazine's "Baker's Dozen" list of top training outsourcing providers. The magazine has named RPS to the list for three consecutive years.
HRO Today chose RPS from an initial field of more than two dozen providers that manage clients' training processes in long-term outsourcing engagements. The magazine selected its final list of top providers based on input about breadth and quality of training services from the providers themselves, their competitors and customers.
"This recognition highlights Raytheon's 15 years of experience in redesigning and managing global training programs for commercial clients like General Motors, Pfizer, Midas, Kia and DTE Energy," said Dave Letts, RPS general manager. "More recently, we've applied these innovative training practices within military and government training environments, improving operational readiness for customers like NASA's Johnson Space Center and the U.K. Ministry of Defence through its Defence Training Review initiative."
RPS also earned the number one position on the "Top 10 Training Services Vendors" list compiled by the Brown-Wilson Group in "The Black Book of Outsourcing." The ranking results from the group's annual survey of leaders in commercial and government organizations that use outsourcing services. More than 21,000 validated survey responses evaluated 4,500 outsourcing providers.
RPS clients have received recognition for training excellence from the American Society for Training and Development, the German Association of Sales Promoters and Trainers, and "Workforce Management" and "eLearning." In speaking about RPS' award-winning training services for General Motors' service technicians in North America, Josh Bersin, principal and founder of Bersin & Associates, said: "This program should be studied by every learning executive. The program is incredibly ambitious and touches one of the most business-critical elements in the GM business model. Its success is a testimony to the value of carefully honed best practices for program analysis, design, implementation and management."
A business unit of Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC, RPS is a global leader in training services and outsourcing. With 800 learning professionals serving clients in 70 countries and 25 languages, RPS improves clients' business performance by redesigning how they train their employees, customers and partners; implementing their new training design; and managing their training in long-term outsourcing engagements.

WEGENER Unveils Next Generation Network Control System at NAB 2008Introducing Compel II for comprehensive management of video, audio and data broadcasts within commercial and private network operations
DULUTH, Ga., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation , a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced it will unveil the next generation WEGENER Compel(R) II network control system at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention, Booth #SU7911, April 14-17, 2008, in Las Vegas.
Compel II retains the patented features of the Compel network control system while adding new features designed to enhance the user interface and simplify operations for dynamic media distribution. Compel network control is used by content providers, private network operators, corporations, and broadcasters.
The control system has been streamlined by unifying many different screens and utilities within a single, user friendly, web-based graphical user interface (GUI). Using the web browser access, operators can control live and file-based media distribution networks from any web-enabled remote location.
Built upon a scalable open architecture, Compel II also makes it easier for network administrators to limit access of employees or affiliates to only those features and functions their jobs require. New set-up features allow administrators to create classes of users that designate each user's level of access. Upon log-in, users are identified by classification, and the GUI is automatically reconfigured.
Compel networks manage from ten to over 100,000 receivers. With new support for SQL databases, Compel II enables the search, import, and export of databases for better network management and expanded reporting features. Additionally, a new site addressing feature streamlines data entry in the database for those sites that have multiple receivers.
"We designed the new features for Compel II based upon extensive customer feedback," said Ned L. Mountain, President and COO, WEGENER. "These user- friendly features streamline the workflow, making it faster and easier for our customers to manage their networks and give permissioned access to their workers and contractors."
Compel II will become available later this year and will offer backward compatibly to WEGENER's existing Compel networks.

LG Electronics, Harris Fast-Track Mobile Digital TV Development Means MPH(TM) System Ready for Market DeploymentBroadcasters Predict Mobile DTV Will Generate an Additional $2 Billion Annually
LAS VEGAS, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Leveraging their respective leadership positions in broadcast equipment and consumer electronics, Harris Corporation and LG Electronics, Inc., said today that their MPH(TM) in-band mobile digital television (DTV) system is both deployment-ready and uniquely suited to rapid marketplace adoption by the nation's broadcasters.
Developed by LG Electronics, its R&D subsidiary Zenith, and Harris, the MPH system provides robust over-the-air DTV signals to mobile, pedestrian and handheld devices. This innovative technology allows consumers to watch their favorite programs from local broadcasters, as well as local news, weather and traffic information, even when traveling in fast-moving vehicles or using handheld devices away from home.
Harris, which accounts for an estimated two of every three DTV transmitters sold and installed in the United States, will be showcasing the features and benefits of MPH at the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, which begins here this weekend. Among other things, Harris is launching new MPH broadcast equipment for broadcasters to deploy MPH mobile DTV services quickly.
Similarly responding to broadcasters' sense of urgency, global technology leader LG Electronics expects to introduce by next year a range of consumer devices -- from handheld digital TVs and mobile phones to DTV-ready notebook computers -- capable of receiving and displaying MPH mobile DTV. LG will demonstrate these products at the NAB show as well.
For broadcasters, mobile DTV has the potential to create lucrative new revenue streams. A study commissioned by the NAB predicted that, assuming an industry standard is set by early 2009 and universally adopted, "broadcast television could reap an additional $2 billion in annual revenue by 2012." The Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC), an alliance of U.S. commercial and public broadcasters, is vigorously promoting the development and early deployment of mobile DTV, and the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) is pursuing an aggressive standardization process expected to yield a single terrestrial mobile/handheld DTV standard by early 2009.
"MPH in-band mobile DTV marks a rare opportunity for broadcasters to increase their viewership as well as their bottom-line," Harris Broadcast Communications President Tim Thorsteinson said. "This technology has proven itself time and again in grueling real-world field tests not only in major U.S. metropolitan areas, but also in media markets from Canada to Argentina. Harris, which led the way in building the new digital broadcast infrastructure, is uniquely qualified to help broadcasters weave mobile DTV into their existing transmission capability, and to do so swiftly and seamlessly."
LG Electronics President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Woo Paik said, "MPH promises to create major market opportunities for consumer electronics. We envision a host of new, MPH-driven products such as DTV systems for moving vehicles and DTV-capable computers, not to mention the replacement market for the millions of analog handheld TVs that will go dark when U.S. broadcasters go all-digital next February. We at LG see MPH as a logical extension of our seminal contributions to the field of digital transmission technology."
The MPH team has been actively involved with the progress that ATSC has been making in the areas of transport protocol, user interface (middleware), service features and video/audio encoding -- all of which will be demonstrated within a mobile vehicle, as well as in the Harris and ATSC booths during the NAB convention.
MPH in-band mobile DTV technology, under development for nearly three years at the LG Electronics DTV Laboratory in Seoul, South Korea, and at LG's Zenith lab near Chicago, builds on two key ATSC standards, also developed by Zenith: the robust Enhanced VSB (E-VSB) system and 8-VSB (Vestigial Side Band), the proven modulation system at the heart of the ATSC DTV standard currently used by more than 1,600 U.S. DTV broadcasters and in every DTV receiver sold in the United States. To help commercialize its technology concepts for the broadcast industry, LG Electronics turned to long-time industry leader Harris Corporation, whose extensive systems integration and research capabilities contributed significantly to the broadcast system's development.

EMCORE Corporation to Deploy Concentrator Solar Photovoltaic Systems with XinAo Group in China
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EMCORE Corporation a leading provider of semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber-optic, satellite and terrestrial solar power markets, announced today that it has agreed to supply CPV systems to XinAo Group in China. XinAo Group is one of China's largest energy companies and is well known for its clean-energy technologies. The program will start with the delivery of a 50 kilowatt (kW) concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) system to be installed in Langfang, China. This system will be used for test and evaluation purposes. Once the expected reliability and performance metrics have been demonstrated, XinAo plans to install CPV systems to provide electric power for its innovative coal gasification project, which is estimated to have a requirement of 60 megawatts (MW) of power. XinAo believes that EMCORE's CPV technology will provide a cost-effective solution for its energy needs.
In addition, XinAo intends to build a manufacturing plant in China, jointly owned by EMCORE, to manufacture CPV systems designed and certified by EMCORE for the Chinese market.
Earl Fuller, Vice President and General Manager of EMCORE's Solar Power Division stated, "We are pleased to be recognized as a leading supplier of CPV systems for cost-effective electric power generation for XinAo's innovative energy synthesis applications for zero carbon emission. This kind of distributed energy application is a strategic focus for EMCORE. Through our wholly-owned subsidiary, EMCORE China, located in the same city as XinAo, we will be able to form an efficient and cost-effective manufacturing capability to serve XinAo and other demands in the Chinese market."
EMCORE's CPV systems are powered by our industry leading high-efficiency compound semiconductor-based multi-junction solar cells that operate with 500x concentration to provide a lower cost-per-watt than competing technologies. CPV improves the performance of compound semiconductor-based solar cells, avoids the supply constraint that currently exists with silicon-based solar modules, and provides a lower cost-per-watt. EMCORE's continued investment in high-efficiency CPV systems for utility-scale photovoltaic power systems will enable the development of a new alternative energy resource worldwide.

Monroe, Connecticut Residents to Benefit From Verizon Wireless Network ExpansionInvesting to Stay Ahead of Growing Demand for Wireless Voice, Multimedia and Internet Access
MONROE, Conn., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Fairfield County, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site. The new site increases high-speed wireless data coverage and capacity along Routes 25 and 59 in Monroe, Connecticut and the surrounding area.
Verizon Wireless has invested nearly $44 billion since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services like BroadbandAccess and V CAST. Regionally the company has invested nearly $2.2 billion into its New England network, including over $292 million in 2007 alone.
BroadbandAccess offers computer users the nation's most reliable high- speed wireless mobile broadband network, operating at average upload speeds between 500 and 800 kbps, and download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps over Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Revision A network. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones.
Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the fourth quarter of 2007 as the company added two million net new customers and, for the thirteenth consecutive quarter, reported the lowest customer turnover (highest customer loyalty) rate in the wireless industry.
The company's 'nation's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "can you hear me now" national advertising campaign. Nationally, these test men and women drive nearly 100 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high- population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
