    Customer Experience Takes Center Stage in Online BankingOnline Banking Customers Report Receptivity to New Media Tools Such as Widgets and Chats

    RESTON, Va., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- comScore, Inc. , a leader in measuring the digital world, today released results of a study of the online banking industry. The findings, published in the April 2008 comScore Online Banking Report, are based on passively observed online behavioral data from the comScore Online Bank Benchmarker and a survey of more than 2,500 U.S. banking customers. The report provides comprehensive insights into service usage, consumer satisfaction, paperless banking and mobile banking. The study found that the growth in the number of online banking customers at the 10 most-visited online banks softened in 2007 compared to the previous year. Additional study findings showed high customer satisfaction with banking relationships and receptivity to the use of new media tools -- such as chats and widgets -- to enhance the online banking experience.

    The findings from this study, which included data collected from March 5-10, 2008, were compared to results from two previously-published comScore studies conducted from April 3-7, 2007 and March 22-27, 2006. These studies surveyed 1,405 and 2,124 participants, respectively.

    "After several years of strong growth in the number of users of online banking services, it appears the market is entering its next phase," said Brian Jurutka, vice president at comScore. "As a result, many of the top banks are realizing that customer servicing is of increasing importance in this competitive market and are therefore investing resources into online service enhancements, as well as mobile banking."

    Top 10 Online Banks See Growth Rates Soften Versus Previous Year

    After years of accelerating growth rates, the growth in the number of online banking customers at the top 10 online banks has begun to slow. Specifically, the number of customers who logged into a liquid deposit account (checking, savings, or money market account) at one or more of the top 10 online banks increased to 8.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007, compared to a 9.5-percent growth rate the prior year.

    Interestingly, from Q2 2007 to Q3 2007, the number of online banking customers who accessed a liquid deposit account declined by nearly 1 percent, which was the first quarterly decrease seen in the industry in the past five years. And, although Q4 2007 saw a 0.9 percent increase in quarterly growth, it was just half the previous year's fourth quarter growth of 1.8 percent.

    Customer Satisfaction among Banks Remains High

    The comScore study also looked at customers' satisfaction with their primary banking institution. Seventy-two percent of survey respondents said they were "highly satisfied" with their primary bank, an increase of two percentage points from 2007 and three percentage points from 2006. Banks consistently lead other financial service institutions such as credit card companies and brokerage firms in this satisfaction rating.

    Customers Receptive to Chats and WidgetsOnline banking customers were also surveyed about their interest in various new media services, such as the ability to chat online with a bank representative. Twenty-five percent of respondents said they were interested in a chat capability and 23 percent said they were interested in having a widget from their financial institution that would display their account balance.

    "This overall receptivity to chats and widgets in the online banking industry is consistent with general online industry trends. Consumers are increasingly relying on emerging media in many aspects of their online lives, so it's natural that they would want their online banking experience to conform to these expectations," said Jurutka. "However, while consumers express an interest in these features, observed behavioral data shows a much lower adoption rate. This may be due to the fact that many banks have not yet developed capabilities to adequately match consumer expectations, which provides additional opportunities for banks to satisfy their customers."

    Additional Study Findings -- Customers who reported being "highly satisfied" with their bank had longer online tenure at the financial institution and were mostly in the younger age group of 24 to 44 years. -- Twenty five percent of survey respondents reported that they were interested in mobile banking, up slightly from last year's 23 percent. -- Consumers interested in mobile banking said they are most interested in obtaining account balance information (61 percent through text message and 57 percent through mobile browser). -- Fifty three percent of respondents said they had at least one of their financial statements delivered in a paperless format -- For customers who have not enrolled in paperless statements, the top two reasons for not doing so were the desire to have a hard copy of the statement for record-keeping (46 percent) and the desire to have a paper bill as a reminder to make a payment (38 percent).

    Compuware Corporation Announces Stellar Preliminary Financial Results

    DETROIT, April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Compuware Corporation today announced preliminary financial results for its fourth quarter ended March 31, 2008.

    Compuware expects fiscal 2008 fourth quarter total revenue of approximately $337 million, based on software license revenues of approximately $100 million, maintenance revenue of approximately $126 million and professional services revenue of approximately $111 million.     Exponent Reports First Quarter 2008 Results

    MENLO PARK, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Exponent, Inc. today reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 28, 2008.

    For the first quarter of 2008, revenues increased 15% to $56,260,000, as compared to $48,873,000, in the same period of 2007. Revenues before reimbursements grew 15% to $52,022,000, as compared to $45,433,000, last year. Net income was up 26% to $6,347,000, or $0.40 per diluted share, as compared to $5,055,000, or $0.31 per diluted share, in the prior year period. EBITDAS(1) improved 29% to $13,838,000, as compared to $10,754,000, in the first quarter of 2007.

    In the first quarter of 2008, Exponent, used $4.8 million to repurchase its common stock, and ended the quarter with $61 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments.

    Waste Management and Sony Electronics Recycling Event Collects 4 Million Pounds of Electronics in Twin CitiesDespite inclement weather, Twin Cities residents recycle record amount of unwanted electronics over two-day event

    MINNEAPOLIS, April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Waste Management Recycle America and Sony Electronics Inc. today announced their two-day, multi-site electronics recycling drive in the Twin Cities collected 4 million pounds of unwanted electronics. More than 42,000 Minnesota residents participated in the recycling drive, making it the largest such event in state history.

    "We want to thank everyone from the Twin Cities area who helped to make the recycling drive such a success," said Julie Ketchum, director of government affairs for Waste Management. "Despite the snow, sleet and high winds, participation was strong and we collected a record amount of material. The great turnout shows that when consumers are provided with a convenient and responsible way to dispose of their electronic waste, they are excited to be part of the sustainability chain."

    The two-day recycling drive included five drop-off sites: the Canterbury Park Racetrack in Shakopee, the State Fair Grounds in St. Paul, the National Sports Center in Blaine, Grace Church in Eden Prairie, and the Ecolab Schuman Campus in Eagan. Of the five locations, the State Fair Grounds collected the most material with 1.2 million pounds of electronics for recycling. Participants in the drive received a discount coupon to attend EarthFest, A Party for the Planet, to be held April 19th and 20th at the Minnesota Zoo in Eagan, MN.

    Thousands of AlphaSmart Laptops to Ship to Kenya Schools in Response to National Campaign

    In an effort to help teach fundamental skills to students in areas where illiteracy rates are as high as 93%, the program will provide schools in Northern Kenya with donated AlphaSmart laptops for use in classrooms, helping to prepare students for today's high-tech world.

    Nearly 400 North American schools and consumers donated their used, older-model AlphaSmart laptops to the cause. In return, Renaissance Learning provided donors with a $50 discount toward a brand-new AlphaSmart NEO or NEO 2 laptop for each donated unit.

Other significant increases were experienced by Pandora.com (up 9 percent), Citadel Broadcasting Corporation (up 11 percent), and Disney Music (up 17 percent).

    Online Gambling Traffic Propelled by March Madness

    The NCAA basketball tournament, also known as "March Madness," attracted a flurry of online bettors, prompting a 14-percent gain to the online gambling category. Sportingbet PLC increased 35 percent to 975,000 visitors, UPICKEM.net jumped 174 percent to 396,000 visitors and SportsBetting.com rose 114 percent to 145,000 visitors.

    Walgreen Co. Leads Retail - Health Care Category

    Retail - Health Care sites experienced a 12-percent increase in March to 26.3 million visitors, as Walgreen Co. led the category with 5.4 million visitors (up 10 percent). Drugstore.com, Inc. captured the second position with 3.7 million visitors, followed by CVS with nearly 3 million visitors.

    Top 50 Properties

    The top 10 properties maintained their positions from February with Yahoo! Sites continuing to lead as the top property with 139.5 million visitors, followed by Google Sites with 137.5 million visitors and Microsoft Sites with 121 million visitors. ESPN jumped 12 spots on the popularity of March Madness and anticipation of the 2008 Major League Baseball season. Gains were also experienced by AT&T (up 8 spots to #18 with 31.3 million visitors), Target Corporation (up 5 spots to #20 with nearly 30 million visitors), and CBS Corporation (up 6 spots to #24 with 28.6 million visitors).

    Top 50 Ad Focus Ranking

    The top 10 Ad Focus properties also maintained their February rankings with Platform A, the ad network combining Advertising.com, Tacoda, AOL, and Quigo, leading the ranking in March, reaching 91 percent of Americans online. interCLICK gained 9 spots in the ranking to position 14, reaching 58 percent of the 188 million Americans online. Real Cities Network and YuMe Video Network both entered this month's rankings in positions 38 and 43, respectively.

    The MTVN Music Group saw average monthly unique visitors for Q1 2008 jump 18.7 percent over Q1 2007, while average monthly uniques for Yahoo! Music and MySpace Music fell 11.7 percent and 8 percent, respectively, for the same time period.

    Driving MTVN Music Group's strong performances were the MTV.com, VH1.com and CMT.com music brands. From March '07 to March '08, unique visitors jumped 30 percent at MTV.com, 32 percent at VH1.com and 5.5 percent at CMT.com, according to the independent comScore data.

    The March '08 numbers represent the second-best performance of the MTVN Music Group, behind September 2007, which set records around the MTV Video Music Awards.

    MTVN Music Group is now the third most-trafficked music destination on the Web, according to comScore, ahead of ArtistDirect (#4) and MySpace Music (now #5).

    AT&T Plans to Invest Nearly $50 Million in Oklahoma Wireless Network in 2008Three-Year Investment Will Total Nearly $140 Million, Bringing Wireless Customers an Enhanced Network and Innovative Services

    OKLAHOMA CITY, April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. , the world's largest communications company, today announced a total planned investment of nearly $50 million in the Oklahoma wireless network in 2008. This will bring AT&T's three-year investment in Oklahoma to nearly $140 million, further demonstrating AT&T's commitment to provide Oklahomans with a stronger, expanded network and the newest wireless technologies and features.

    "Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible, and that includes providing unmatched coverage, quality of service, competitive calling plans and innovative wireless devices," said Larry Evans, AT&T vice president/general manager for wireless operations in Oklahoma and Arkansas. "This year's investment will increase coverage in the places our customers live and work, and the planned expansion of our 3G network will allow more customers to enjoy increased data and video speeds while they are on the go."

    As part of the 2008 wireless network investment, AT&T plans to add 19 new cell sites and to roll out its higher-speed wireless network in additional communities throughout the state. AT&T also is now integrating 273 cell sites in Oklahoma that AT&T acquired from Dobson Communications, which AT&T acquired last year.

    In 2008, new sites and other network enhancements will be deployed to expand wireless coverage for consumers and businesses, including enhanced coverage to those living and working in the Ardmore area and Osage and Tulsa counties.

    The Dobson integration will improve service in the following counties: Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Garfield, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Nowata, Okmulgee, Ottawa, Pittsburg and Washington.

    AT&T is also delivering dramatic change in Oklahoma through the introduction and deployment of its third-generation (3G) wireless broadband network, which offers customers access to broadband-type speeds for their laptops, with the ability to access the Internet and work with e-mail from within the 3G network. Customers with 3G handsets have quick access to the latest news, weather, music, entertainment, videos, games and pictures through MEdia(TM) Net, the company's mobile Internet portal.

    This year, AT&T is expanding its wireless 3G network in the United States to more than 80 additional cities, bringing AT&T's 3G wireless services to nearly 350 leading U.S. markets. Already this year, AT&T has deployed 3G service in Shawnee. Later this year, 3G service will be launched in Bartlesville and Lawton.
