    - New programme features developer tools, embedded operating systems, and board packages for hobbyist developers and academic community.

At the Embedded Systems Conference today, Microsoft Corp rolled out the full details about its SPARK Your Imagination community-focused programme, a joint agreement between Microsoft and select hardware vendors to bring a complete offering of hardware and software to nonprofessional developers through a simple and affordable engagement model. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)

Previously code-named the "SPARK" initiative when it was first announced in November 2007, SPARK Your Imagination (http://www.windowsembedded.com/spark) brings the benefits of embedded development on Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 and Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition to hobbyist developers and the academic community. Currently, under its MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA) Program, Microsoft provides software for students and faculty in the embedded technology and design fields. Through the SPARK Your Imagination community programme, the company is adding complementary offerings and extending them to the greater nonprofessional developer community to continue its dedication to the industry and future talent pool.

"Devices running embedded operating systems have seen explosive growth in the past few years, and the announcement today demonstrates our commitment to the future of the embedded community," said Kevin Dallas, general manager of Windows Embedded Business at Microsoft. "Our continued investment supports future innovation and new idea generation that will ultimately contribute to our vision of smart, connected, service-oriented devices."

    SPARK Your Imagination Offer Availability

The initial list of hardware vendors participating in the programme includes AdvanTech Co Ltd, ICOP Digital Inc, Keith & Koep GmbH, VIA Technologies Inc and Special Computing. SPARK Your Imagination offers will be available for purchase for programme participants directly from this select list of hardware vendors. Programme participants will receive the following:

-- Complete versions. A full version of Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 and Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition will be offered with select boards from participating hardware vendors and made available to academics and hobbyists at price points optimised for nonprofessional users. The offering is for noncommercial use. -- BSP certification. As part of the SPARK Your Imagination programme, Microsoft will begin offering Board Support Package (BSP) certification at no charge, which will now apply to both commercial and noncommercial use.

    BSP Certification Becomes Free

As part of this announcement, Microsoft now offers Board Support Package (BSP) certification free to the entire Windows Embedded community, for both commercial and noncommercial use. Up to two test passes per BSP will be processed at no cost, should one need a retest; a fee of US$500 will apply. Previously BSP certification cost US$1,500. BSP certification guarantees compatibility with the designated Windows Embedded CE operating system requirements by Microsoft, thereby allowing OEMs to spend more time developing differentiating features for their devices and products.

Stewart and co-host Matt Yocum will host the show in front of a live audience, giving SIRIUS listeners from coast to coast a glimpse into the personal life of the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Before going on his SIRIUS NASCAR Radio show, Stewart will also perform as a guest DJ live on SIRIUS' Elvis Radio, where he will play a selection of his favorite Elvis songs. Elvis Radio, channel 13, is the world's first and only officially authorized, commercial-free, Elvis all-the-time radio station. As part of the show, Stewart, who shares Elvis' love of cars, will talk extensively about the one-of-a-kind collection in the Elvis Presley Automobile Museum, which showcases more than 33 vehicles owned by Elvis including his famous Pink Cadillac, Harley Davidson motorcycles, the red MG he drove in the movie Blue Hawaii and more.

"I can't sing and I can't act, but I do like Elvis' music and I can collect cars," said Stewart, who has more than 40 vehicles in his own collection. "Racing has afforded me opportunities to do a lot of things, one of which is having my own radio show on SIRIUS. And it just so happens that my radio show gets me behind the velvet ropes at Graceland, where I'll also get the chance to spin some records on Elvis Radio. All in all, it's a pretty good deal."

Stewart is a two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion (2002, 2005), one of only 15 drivers in the history of NASCAR to win multiple Cup Series titles. In addition to his achievements on the NASCAR circuit, Stewart is the first and only driver to have won championships in stock cars, Indy cars and in USAC's Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown divisions. Currently, Stewart has 32 Sprint Cup wins, 10 poles, 122 top-fives and 196 top-10s in 328 career starts.

The weekly, two-hour show features Stewart and Yocum taking calls from listeners, talking with prominent guests and covering the spectrum of motorsports -- from NASCAR to open-wheel racing and beyond.

SIRIUS NASCAR Radio airs year 'round, giving listeners every race and everything in between, with live race calls, pre and post-race coverage, and a lineup of exclusive daily talk shows providing up-to-the-minute news, expert analysis and exclusive interviews with NASCAR insiders.

AT&T Plans to Invest Nearly $40 Million in Arkansas Wireless Network in 2008Three-Year Investment Expected to Total More Than $125 Million, Bringing Wireless Customers an Enhanced Network and Innovative Services

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. , the world's largest communications company, today announced a total planned investment of nearly $40 million in the Arkansas wireless network in 2008. This will bring AT&T's planned three-year wireless investment in Arkansas to a total of more than $125 million, further demonstrating AT&T's commitment to provide Arkansans with a stronger, expanded network and the newest wireless technologies and features.

"Our goal is to ensure that AT&T customers have the very best wireless experience possible, and that includes providing unmatched coverage, quality of service, competitive calling plans and innovative wireless devices," said Larry Evans, vice president and general manager of AT&T's wireless unit in Arkansas and Oklahoma. "This year's investment will enhance coverage in the places our customers live and work, and the planned expansion of our 3G network will allow more customers to enjoy increased data and video speeds while they are on the go."

As part of the 2008 wireless network investment, AT&T plans to add 34 new cell sites and to roll out its higher-speed wireless network in additional communities throughout the state.

In 2008, new sites and other network enhancements will be deployed to expand wireless coverage for consumers and businesses -- including enhanced coverage to those living and working in the Fort Smith, Hot Springs and Little Rock metro areas; Benton and Washington counties and in southwestern Arkansas and the Arkansas River Valley.

AT&T is also delivering dramatic change in Arkansas through the introduction and deployment of third-generation (3G) wireless broadband network, which offers customers access to broadband-type speeds for their laptops, with the ability to access the Internet and work with e-mail from within the 3G network. Customers with 3G handsets have quick access to the latest news, weather, music, entertainment, videos, games and pictures through MEdia(TM) Net, the company's mobile Internet portal.

This year, AT&T is expanding its wireless 3G network in the United States to more than 80 additional cities, bringing AT&T's 3G wireless services to 350 leading U.S. markets. Later this year, 3G service will be launched in Texarkana and will be expanded in Little Rock.

"Technology is vitally important to Arkansas' growth, and that's why I'm excited about the news of AT&T's latest investment in Arkansas," said Arkansas state Rep. David Johnson. "Everyone in our state wins when we have more technology, more innovation and more choices."

Edward Drilling, state president of AT&T Arkansas, said: "Through investments such as this, we're able to ensure that as many Arkansans as possible remain connected in every way -- whether they want voice, data, high speed Internet service or entertainment. We're committed to providing consumers unprecedented choice and flexibility in devices, applications and service plans so that they have access to the people, information and entertainment they care about."

AT&T's wireless network is based on the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) technology, the most open and widely used network platform in the world. AT&T plans to complete the nation's first High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA)-enabled network by the middle of the year. HSUPA substantially increases upload speeds on the 3G network, allowing AT&T's HSUPA-enabled laptop users to send large files faster and take full advantage of the latest interactive Internet and business applications.

Avistar Enters into Partnership with Yamaha to Extend its Videoconferencing Business Beyond the DesktopInitiative combines Avistar software with Yamaha hardware to create high-performance, low-cost videoconferencing packages

SAN MATEO, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Avistar Communications Corporation has announced a partnership with Yamaha Electronics Corporation to create a range of room-based and mobile videoconferencing packages. The venture combines Avistar's C3 software with Yamaha cameras and audio devices to deliver highly featured and easy to manage videoconferencing systems at market-beating prices. The first packages to be developed through the partnership are Avistar's C3 Teamroom MP, C3 Executive Room and C3 Mobile Room systems.

"Yamaha is really pleased to be a key part of Avistar packages that offer users unusually versatile, easy to use and cost effective videoconferencing solutions," said Tom Graham, vice president of Yamaha Electronics Corporation, USA. "We have decades of experience in digital processing of audio to achieve the finest acoustic performance available. For example, our conferencing camera and audio system uses an array of microphones to automatically select one of three built-in cameras to show whomever is speaking."

The partnership extends the availability of Avistar's patented videoconferencing software beyond the personal desktop deployments for which the company is best known. "Partnering with Yamaha makes a lot of sense for Avistar," said Stephen Epstein, Chief Marketing Officer at Avistar. "Our latest C3 software offers high-end features and is inherently flexible and easy to use. When combined with Yamaha's outstanding camera and audio hardware, we can present a range of highly performing videoconferencing room-based and mobile systems at very compelling prices. Running on standard PC hardware, our systems work 'out-of-the-box' and are a cinch to manage."

The Avistar product range developed with the support of Yamaha comprises three packages:

-- C3 Teamroom MP is a room-based system designed for up to 6 participants in medium- to small-sized meeting rooms and workgroups. It uses Yamaha's PJP 300V with triple 120 degree pan cameras, a built- in array of 16 microphones and 14 loudspeakers to provide automated "track-the-talker" audio and camera adjustment that moves and zooms in on the active participant while providing a complete room coverage audio experience. Avistar's fully integrated software multi-point control unit (MCU) facilitates video calls with as many as four parties. The package includes a 24" LCD monitor, PC tower and wireless keyboard and mouse. -- C3 Executive Room is a room-based system designed for up to 4 participants in small- to medium-sized executive offices and workgroups. It uses a premium webcam and Yamaha's PJP-25UR adaptive echo-canceling conferencing speakerphone, which can be adjusted according to the placement of meeting participants. The system can share existing MCU capacity to leverage the value of this investment across multiple users. The package includes a 24" LCD monitor, PC tower and wireless keyboard and mouse. -- C3 Mobile Room allows any space with Internet connectivity to become an impromptu videoconferencing suite for up to 2 participants. Installed on a laptop PC, it offers room-based conferencing quality in a highly portable package due to the compact size and simple USB connections of Yamaha's PJP-25UR adaptive echo-canceling conferencing speakerphone which eliminates background noise, plus a compact premium webcam. The system can share existing MCU capacity, even across the Internet, to leverage the value of this investment across multiple users.

All the systems are powered by Avistar's C3 software. Designed as a "self-service" videoconferencing solution, it requires no technician support or advance call scheduling. An intuitive user interface needs little or no training; presence-awareness lets users see available parties with calls connected by a simple drag-and-drop action. A "find-me/follow-me" feature routes calls to the room where the user is logged in, with no need to input of IP addresses or access codes.

Integrated IP network bandwidth management technology allows videoconferencing to take place without impairing network performance. Compatibility with industry video standards, such as H.320, H.323 and SIP, plus firewall traversal, ensures no-hassle interconnectivity with existing and external room-based videoconferencing systems from other popular vendors. Standard hardware keeps cost of ownership low, and centralized administration and maintenance tools allow system administrators to perform most support functions remotely over the IP network. It also allows administrators to easily and inexpensively add additional videoconferencing locations into the Avistar network.

The C3 Teamroom MP and C3 Executive Room systems also bundle a 25 seat licence for Avistar's C3 desktop videoconferencing software, with additional licences available for purchase. When installed on webcam-equipped PCs, these provide personal videoconferencing that can be distributed across an organization to create a networked, face-to-face community.

Avistar's C3 videoconferencing technology delivers proven gains in terms of improved quality of interaction, greater workflow efficiency and easier collaboration at distance. Clients report as much as a 20 percent reduction in travel expense and carbon emissions, increases in productivity, and immeasurably improved decision making and relationship building within their organizations, as well as with suppliers and customers.

The increase in revenue is primarily attributable to an overall increase in our client's information technology ("IT") spending particularly with departments of the United States Government and the education business. AT&T Helps Small and Medium Businesses Boost Their Services on the WebNew Web Hosting and Web Site Design Solutions Help Small Businesses Extend Their Operations

SAN ANTONIO, April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Small and midsize businesses are about to get a big boost in how they use the Web to grow their business, thanks to AT&T.

AT&T Inc. has announced the availability of new turnkey Web hosting solutions and Web site design services developed specifically for today's small and midsize businesses. Using these services, companies can easily and cost-effectively launch a new or improve an existing Web site, sell products or services online, build an online community, manage company email, distribute digital content, host a gaming server, or run many other business applications.

AT&T Web Hosting(SM) Virtual Dedicated Server and Managed Dedicated Server offerings are ideal for organizations that need more than shared server space and applications but don't require the complex multiserver environment of enterprise hosting. A menu of standard server plans for both Microsoft Windows(R) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux(R) platforms allows customers to choose the plan that best meets their capacity and operating system needs.

AT&T Virtual Dedicated Server emulates a dedicated server in a shared environment, allowing multiple customers to securely share the expense of hardware and network connections without sharing software or sacrificing performance or security. AT&T Managed Dedicated Server provides enterprise-class server functionality and software to power the most intensive sites and applications with dedicated bandwidth and processing power. Customers benefit from the security and performance of a dedicated environment without incurring the costs of managing the hardware in-house.

AT&T Web Design Services provide competitively priced design template solutions that go beyond the available free tools for do-it-yourself Web site creation. New AT&T Web Hosting customers can select a hosting package and then choose from four different plans providing up to 10 Web pages. Consultation with a design expert is included in the package cost. Support for customization services like copywriting, blog and forum integration, database development, search engine optimization and design integration with shopping carts also is available.

"More small and midsize businesses want enterprise-class Web hosting without the enterprise price tag, and these solutions fill the gap between a simple Web hosting plan and a fully managed enterprise solution," said Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president, Regional Business Marketing. "Our Web site design services give small businesses the features they need to get up and running quickly and start doing business right out of the gate, all from a company that understands what small businesses need to succeed."

AT&T Web Hosting Services include an intuitive user interface that supports easy Web site design, search engine submission, search engine ranking optimization, banner ad creation, e-mail management and Web site traffic and user behavior reports. Technical users can perform tasks such as managing domain name registration, viewing CPU and memory usage information, managing data backups, installing applications and administering the database.

List pricing for the Virtual Dedicated Server ranges from $80 to $150/month, and Managed Dedicated Server from $350 to $900/month. This compares with simple shared Web hosting from AT&T that starts at $13 a month, and complex enterprise hosting that can cost thousands of dollars. Although pricing and service level agreements (SLAs) are designed for small and midsize businesses, large companies will also find it economical to use these services for stand-alone projects, online data storage or disaster recovery.

Pricing for AT&T Web Design Service ranges from $255 for a simple two-page Web site to $1,595 for a 10-page Web site. A wide variety of add-on capabilities, including e-commerce, flash animation, database development and banner ad management, also are available to customers.

All AT&T Web Hosting server plans use state-of-the-art data centers and feature 24/7 monitoring, triple data protection and around-the-clock customer support via phone or e-mail. AT&T Web Design Services include design consultation and completed pages. Certain packages include up to five stock photos, search engine optimization and search engine content placement.

AT&T Web Hosting is part of a broad array of hosted infrastructure, managed services and managed applications capabilities that support the IT operations of customers, ranging from small and midsize businesses up to the largest global corporations. AT&T's comprehensive hosting portfolio meets a wide range of customer needs and accommodates customers whose hosting requirements increase in conjunction with business growth and marketplace changes.

Customers can order the service online via credit card, by phone or directly with their AT&T account manager. For more information and to order AT&T Web Hosting, go to: http://www.att.com/webhosting or call 1-888-WEB-HOST.

EFILM AUSTRALIA More Than Doubles Its Digital Film Production With Additional SGI InfiniteStorage SystemsSeveral New Features including the New Baz Luhrmann Film Will Be Online at the same time, Requiring Over 22TB of SGI InfiniteStorage

LAS VEGAS, April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAB Booth SL4314 -- To support changes in film production as well as attract major international productions, EFILM AUSTRALIA is upgrading its existing SAN from SGI with an additional 22TB of SGI(R) InfiniteStorage systems. The two new SGI InfiniteStorage 4500 systems will be installed in April in the Sydney and Melbourne locations. EFILM AUSTRALIA is a digital postproduction facility that combines client-centered services with the advanced technologies of leading Digital Intermediate facility EFILM, L.A. in Hollywood, and The Atlab Group, one of the largest front end and release printing laboratories in the region.

With three films coming in simultaneously from three internationally-renown Australian directors, EFILM AUSTRALIA, which has relied on the SGI(R) InfiniteStorage CXFS(R) shared filesystem for digital intermediate (DI) in both locations for five years, needed a storage upgrade to accommodate the increased workload. One film production will be in 2K, and another will be a 4K scan with 2K throughput. The third and largest project is Oscar-nominated director Baz Luhrmann's Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, and scheduled for U.S. release by 20th Century Fox in November 2008. Luhrmann, known for his films using eye-popping, oversaturated colors, required Australia to be processed entirely in 4K. A typical 90-minute film with no major visual effects (VFX) component needs 12 to 14TB of storage for a 4K production workflow. Robert Sandeman, Digital Services Manager at EFILM AUSTRALIA, estimates Luhrmann's WWII romantic Outback epic will need approximately 22TB or more for online 4K processing, editing, special effects and color-correction and conform.

"We bought more SGI technology because it's solid: it does what it's supposed to do and it works at the speed it's designed to work at," said Sandeman. "We can't be in the middle of a major production for Baz Luhrmann and have disks fail. We've relied on the 16TB SGI SAN for at least two years and it's never missed a beat, and that's what we need. We need things that just keep on working."

To better manipulate colors and imagery in real time, and to provide the storage capacity for increased 2K and 4K film production, EFILM AUSTRALIA purchased, through SGI channel partner Intraware, a SGI InfiniteStorage 4500 controller and 16TB added to the existing 16TB SGI InfiniteStorage-based SAN to support two Linux(R)-based Autodesk Lustre suites, with the latest version of Incinerator render farm for the Sydney facility. The central file system will be striped to deliver the bandwidth necessary for 4K resolution projects. Another SGI InfiniteStorage 4500 and 4TB will be installed in Melbourne to upgrade existing SGI InfiniteStorage-based SAN storage, resulting in approximately 20TB of additional usable storage.

"From the moment SGI first installed the capabilities for digital processing in the leading film developing and optical labs in Hollywood, everyone knew the future of film postproduction was digital," said Jim Mukerjee, digital content management segment manager, SGI. "SGI has worked hand-in-hand with all the pioneers of DI so they could, in turn, open up the immense artistic capabilities to the directors of photography and film directors who were their trusted clients. SGI's robust servers and reliable, scalable storage deliver the sustained power 24/7 upon which the world's most esteemed filmmakers wield their craft."

SGI Solutions Speed Production for Shanghai Motion Magic Digital StudiosSGI Altix Servers and SGI XE Cluster Systems Produce Animated Series in Months Instead of Years

LAS VEGAS, April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAB 2008, SGI booth SL4314 -- To accelerate the creation and delivery of a variety of animated cartoon series for customers around the world, Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Studios (SHMDS) regularly relies on a media production solution from SGI , consisting of SGI(R) Altix(R) server and SGI(R) Altix(R) XE cluster systems. The boom in joint-venture motion picture production in China, fueled by the easing of foreign investment restrictions, is helping spur animation production, driving cutting-edge facilities like SHMDS to upgrade to proven high-performance technology that will streamline and speed their workflow and greatly improve their bottom line.

Prior to the SGI system purchase last year, a 50-episode series required 100 people working for two years, a situation far too labor-intensive and time-consuming to be competitive in a global marketplace. SHMDS looked to SGI for a robust workflow environment that would deliver a proven, stable and highly efficient solution that managed the complexity of streaming multi-megabyte files throughout the animation process while delivering breakthrough performance.

"Being one of the biggest animation production bases in China, our challenge is to produce the best-quality animated films to meet our global customers' expectations within the required time," said Mr. Xu, chief executive officer, Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Studios. "Time-to-market is critical for us. Competition in this market is not only about employing leading-edge creative designers, but supplying them with the high-performance computing power and services to maximize the time of these skilled and highly talented artists."

The new SGI system streamlines the workflow, and incorporates all aspects of animation production including design, scenario, storyboard, character design, 3D production and post-production -- and exceeded SHMDS's expectations.

"Comparing approximately the same feature development on different platforms, we realized that SGI Altix technology delivers results in 1/6th of the time of our previous system," said Mr. Shen, system support team leader, Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Studios. "The Altix cluster system is housed in such a slim rack, we don't need to enlarge our computer room. And, because of SGI's infinitely expandable architecture, we can grow our system easily by simply adding more units into the rack. We have been SGI users for over 10 years, and we are very pleased with ease of implementation as well as their professional support services. The reliability of SGI systems is very important for us, since most of our users are not IT professionals. SGI technology ensures artists can be focused on their development work without any interruption by IT infrastructure."

Shanghai Motion Magic Digital Studios purchased an SGI(R) Altix(R) 1300 server system and 11 SGI(R) Altix(R) XE310 cluster servers. The "slim rack" SGI Altix XE 310 cluster covers space only slightly larger than a floor tile, representing a 300 percent improvement in drive density per rack compared to a standard rack. Its ultra-dense rack architecture delivers up to 40 percent more compute performance per floor tile than competing blades.

"With the support of both the central and local governments, several digital zones have been set up in Beijing and Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, which offer incentives enticing foreign companies to establish domestic production facilities for digital animation in China," said Bill Trestrail, vice president of sales for Asia Pacific, SGI. "We can see China's animation industry booming in the very near future, and we believe SGI can serve this market well by contributing not only our high-performance hardware, but also our knowledge and expertise in optimizing the creative workflow to increase productivity. SGI systems have revolutionized the workflow in digital film labs and animation facilities in Hollywood and around the world, and we look forward to providing China's exploding entertainment industry with the tools to compete worldwide."

Siemens PLM Software Adds Logistics Records Management to Comprehensive Teamcenter for MRO SolutionTeamcenter Further Enhances Support for Aerospace and Defense Industry by Integrating Logistics Planning with Single Source of Engineering, Manufacturing and Service Knowledge

PLANO, Texas, and FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 15, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the addition of an integrated logistics records management capability for its comprehensive Teamcenter(R) for MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) suite of software. By integrating logistics planning with the same single source of product and process knowledge shared by engineering, manufacturing and service, Teamcenter delivers full PLM -- from requirements to retirement -- for aerospace and defense manufacturers, system integrators and any industry that is applying formal logistics planning for product support.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070904/SIEMENSLOGO)

Siemens PLM Software made the announcement in conjunction with its participation at Aviation Week's MRO 2008 Conference & Exhibition in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

"We've been working with Siemens PLM Software since 2006 when we selected Teamcenter as the foundation for our corporate-wide PLM initiative known as Through Life PLM," said Graham Malley, PLM Program Manager at BAE Systems Military Air Solutions. "With its in-service support definition capability, Teamcenter is the only system we've seen to integrate engineering, logistics and sustainment into a single product knowledge backbone under configuration control. As a result, we will be able to retire a number of our current logistics applications and consolidate on a single software environment. This will greatly facilitate working as an integrated product team while supporting the closed loop processes associated with contractor logistics support (CLS) contracts such as the one linked to the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft."

Logistics management as part of the PLM continuum

Historically, logistics data has been created and managed in a range of specialized niche solutions. Interaction between these solutions is typically done manually by highly trained logistics personnel. The resulting process is cumbersome and not well suited to managing change.

Teamcenter's logistics records management solution integrates this functionality and the associated logistics data and processes into the overall PLM continuum. Using structures compliant with previous, existing and evolving standards such as MilStd 1388, Def Std 00-60 and GEIA-STD-0007, Teamcenter enhances data integrity and processes with integrated change and configuration management, providing rapid and accurate collaboration across all disciplines in the product lifecycle within a single source of knowledge.

Teamcenter's unique integration of engineering, logistics and sustainment ensures design for supportability is addressed as an iterative process between engineering and logistics during the design of the main equipment; and that asset maintenance and routine servicing tasks can be performed easily with existing tools and techniques. In addition, design of the support solution itself -- including support and test equipment, facilities, storage and transportation -- is addressed as part of the product design phase. Finally, Teamcenter ensures proper determination of provisioning and the initial support package. This includes enabling the requirement for spares, special tools and documentation to be defined, together with the quantities required to be procured and delivered to support the operation of the main equipment.

"Teamcenter has been established as the world's most widely used PLM platform due in large part to its unique ability to manage all phases of a product's lifecycle from concept to retirement," said Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, Siemens PLM Software. "By providing our customers with an integrated logistics records management solution, we are continuing this strategy and further enhancing our support for aerospace and defense as well as all our customers involved in logistics planning."

QNX Achieves Boot Times in Milliseconds on the Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor Z500 Series

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems Conference, Booth 1338 -- QNX Software Systems today announced that it is the first embedded OS vendor to offer "instant-on" support for the Intel Atom processor. System designers looking to integrate the processor platform can successfully slash boot times from seconds to milliseconds using the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) operating system with fast boot technology.

In addition to start-up speed improvements, the fast boot technology in QNX Neutrino helps reduce the cost and component count of embedded systems. QNX fast boot technology eliminates the additional expense of a BIOS, reducing the overall bill of materials for embedded designs, while keeping RAM requirements to an absolute minimum and lowering overall system complexity.

The new Intel(R) Atom(TM) processor enables PC-like capabilities, an uncompromised Internet experience, and long battery life in smaller devices that can fit in a pocket.

"The fast boot technology that QNX is bringing to market creates new opportunities for the Intel(R) Atom(TM) processor Z500 series," said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. "System architects will be able to use the small size and energy efficiency of the Intel Atom to improve a wide range of applications, especially those with rigorous instant-on requirements."

Engineered for embedded applications that require instant-on performance, QNX fast boot technology is equally applicable to the automotive, consumer, military, medical, and industrial markets. Moreover, it allows system designers to utilize the Intel Atom processor in products with applications that cannot tolerate the longer start-up times of BIOS-based designs.

"Normally an operating system can take precious seconds to complete the boot process," said Dave Curley, vice president of marketing, QNX Software Systems. "This is unacceptable to many embedded device makers whose end-users expect virtually no perceptual delay from the moment a device is switched on to the moment it operates. The Intel(R) Atom(TM) processor Z500 series, along with QNX Neutrino fast boot technology and the QNX Aviage(R) HMI middleware, allows developers to deliver a compelling user experience while also maintaining realtime performance and high availability."

Initially available in source and binary format for the Intel(R) Atom(TM) processor Z500 series, QNX fast boot technology will be available to third-party hardware and system integrators, and to customers developing custom hardware products. QNX will demonstrate key technologies, including fast boot on Intel Atom processors, during the Embedded Systems Conference (Intel booth #1308) in San Jose, California, April 15-17, 2008.

Sky Channel Leverages All-Digital On-Air Production and Asset Management System Powered by SGI TechnologySGI Altix XE Servers and SGI InfiniteStorage System Drive On-The-Fly Editing and Automated Archiving

LAS VEGAS, April 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAB Booth SL4314 -- Faced with a growing business broadcasting an average of 12 hours of live racing events daily and an aging 15,000-plus videotape library in six different formats, Sky Channel, in Sydney, Australia, made the decision to go digital by purchasing a media asset management and storage solution from SGI . The new digital infrastructure includes SGI(R) Altix(R) XE servers and an SGI(R) InfiniteStorage system, fully integrated into the heart of the station's operations. Installation began in March 2007, and now that testing and training is complete, Sky Channel is due to go live in early April.

Sky Channel broadcasts approximately 55,000 Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhound races a year, plus special high profile boxing events, throughout Australia as well as Asia, parts of Europe, and Africa. Ingested from up to 24 live feeds, they also distribute the signal via a fibre program feed to New Zealand, London in the United Kingdom, Louisville, Kentucky, and South Africa. The channel is delivered on pay TV to Australian homes, and is also available within the country and internationally in sports pubs and clubs. Sky Channel is preparing to launch interactive betting through pay TV in some residential areas in Australia.

Handling about 200 individual races a day, with accompanying footage of jockeys dismounting, trainers' reactions, different camera feeds, live studio hosts, and additional magazine shows is a daunting task. "Our main focus was to make sure we can cope with those 55,000 live races, about 3,000 hours, we were archiving on videotape and needed to ingest automatically, and store onto the system," said Sam Cannizzaro, Chief Engineer, Sky Channel. "We wanted some basic editing functionality to quickly turn around news or to pre-package show segments. It was also essential to be able to manage the rich data feeds -- track conditions, odds, etc. -- and automatically tie all that information together with the actual media, so that if you do a search on a particular race, jockey or trainer, you'll find all the media associated with it."

Sky Channel looked to SGI channel partner United Group Infrastructure to design, supply, integrate and commission the digital media asset management and storage system. The channel has not yet determined if they will be archiving the legacy material, but still required that the system be a scalable design that could meet future expansion.

Sky Channel purchased a system comprised of two SGI(R) Altix(R) XE240 servers with four Intel(R) Xeon(R) processors each for the NAS head, four additional SGI Altix XE servers with the same configuration for application and database servers, four similarly configured SGI(R) Altix(R) XE210 servers as the Ardenc(TM) server, an SGI(R) InfiniteStorage 4000 with 6TB, and SGI(R) InfiniteStorage Data Migration Facility (DMF) for 210TB, used for transparently moving data on and off the SAN. They also purchased an Ardendo media asset management with editing software, a StorageTek(R) SL500 Digital Tape Robot with 180TB capacity, Thomson-Grass Valley(TM) K2(TM) ingest servers allowing for ingest of 20 concurrent embedded SDI DVCPRO25 streams. QNX First RTOS Vendor to Seek EAL Security Certification for Multi-Core Kernel

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded Systems Conference, Booth #1338 -- QNX Software Systems today announced that it has entered its QNX(R) Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS) into evaluation for the stringent requirements of Common Criteria certification to the Evaluation Assurance Level 4+ (EAL4+). The QNX Neutrino secure kernel has been registered for evaluation with the certification body of the Canadian Security Establishment, one of the global partner organizations authorized to issue Common Criteria (CC) certifications.

The Target of Evaluation (TOE) that QNX has submitted for EAL certification goes beyond the scope of registered offerings from other OS vendors. In an embedded industry first, QNX announced it will certify not only its mature OS kernel, but also its multi-core (symmetric and bound multiprocessing) and secure partitioning solutions. QNX secure partitioning for multi-core processors provides unparalleled system security and guaranteed resource allocation for embedded systems. Embedded developers using single-core or multi-core hardware can apply secure partitions in their designs to guarantee realtime response times and contain threats, while simultaneously maximizing resource usage and performance.

The certification program follows on the recent announcement declaring that the Open Group has awarded the QNX Neutrino operating system POSIX certification according to the guidelines of the IEEE POSIX PSE52 Realtime Controller 1003.13-2003 System product standard. PSE52 certification confirms that the QNX Neutrino RTOS delivers the predictable response times demanded by time-critical applications. Support of the POSIX open standard in embedded systems assures code portability and, in tandem with EAL certification, is increasingly being mandated for the military, security, and software defined radio (SDR) markets, as well as commercial applications.

"Security is a key priority for our customers, and our registration for Common Criteria certification demonstrates our commitment to deliver secure, reliable, and standards-based products," said Dan Dodge, president and CTO of QNX Software Systems. "Including multi-core and partitioning capabilities in our EAL certification program is a further testament to delivering products that meet tomorrow's design challenges for many segments of the embedded computing market."

    About Common Criteria

The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (the CC) is an international standard agreed to by the United States Government, Canada, and 23 other nations. It establishes standards for security functionality, security assurance, and security evaluation. Certification to EAL 4+ means that the QNX Neutrino secure kernel will exceed the assurance requirements required for EAL4, and will validate that the product has been methodically designed, tested, and reviewed.
