Verizon Wireless Extensive Network Expansion in Alabama Continues in First Quarter of 2008Company spends $17 million in Alabama during first quarter, adds new cell towers and network enhancements to more than 20 sites throughout the state
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has completed another aggressive quarter of network expansion and enhancements across Alabama. The wireless carrier deployed new cell sites and network enhancements to improve coverage and capacity in several markets across Alabama during the first quarter of 2008. The most recent quarter investment includes aggressive capacity expansions in Birmingham, the state's largest market; and new cell sites in northeastern and western parts of the state.
"Alabama's wireless customers increasingly continue to choose Verizon Wireless because of the network quality and services we offer across the state," says Jeff Mango, President, Verizon Wireless Alabama/Georgia Region. "Wireless customers throughout Alabama continue to demand the best -- and Verizon Wireless is committed to continue doing everything we can to deliver it. We'll continue to focus on meeting our customers' growing wireless needs by delivering on our brand promise -- the best, most reliable wireless network."
In the first quarter of 2008, network coverage and capacity have been enhanced in the following Alabama cities:
AL City Result

course and housing development of Ross Bridge
Tuscaloosa Enhanced capacity for the University of Alabama
campus, especially during football season
Verizon Wireless invested more than $110 million in network expansion and enhancements in Alabama during 2007, activating 91 new cell sites statewide.
Nationally, the company has invested nearly $44 billion since it was formed in 2000 -- $5.5 billion on average every year -- to offer customers the most reliable service available, including wireless data services such as picture messaging, text messaging, and the company's exclusive V CAST services. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones over Verizon Wireless' high-speed EV-DO network. Verizon Wireless' high-speed third generation wireless broadband network has been enhanced with EV-DO Rev. A technology. This enhancement allows customers who use the company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, to interact with Web-based applications, download music over-the-air, access e-mail, everyday corporate data, the Internet and more at speeds that are eight to nine times faster than before. For example, BroadbandAccess customers with Rev. A compatible devices can now expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps, which means customers can download a 1 megabyte e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same sized file in less than 13 seconds.
Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the fourth quarter of 2007 as the company added two million net new customers. For the 13th consecutive quarter, Verizon Wireless also led the wireless industry in customer loyalty. The company posted a churn (customer turnover) rate of just 1.2%, well below the rate reported by the other major wireless carriers.
Verizon Wireless tests its network and those of its competitors to ensure the Verizon Wireless network remains the nation's most reliable. Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and women drive 91 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on interstates, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to determine if voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
"We are committed to providing the best service to our customers where and when they need it," says Mango. "The developments and investments we undertook in 2007 and in the first quarter of 2008 are in direct response to the remarkable growth in the demand for our wireless service."

NEWTON, Mass., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Middlesex County, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site. Columbia River Resources Inc subsidiary, Traxxec Ltd, reports early success for new market channels (Pink Sheets OTC - CRVR.pk)
NEWCASTLE UNDER LYME, ENGLAND, April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Traxxec Ltd, the U.K. subsidiary of Columbia River Resources Inc. (Pink Sheets OTC - CRVR.pk), today reports negotiations to supply Glaxo SmithKline and Catalent through its new clinical trials sales division.
As reported last week, the company has negotiated a policy with Rexam plc that allows it to sell directly in to the pharmaceutical clinical trial arena and to pharmaceutical contract and clinical research organisations.
Catalent and Glaxo SmithKline represent two of the biggest names in the contract and pharma arena, ideal customers for the new division. In addition, Traxxec is in talks with a French-based global leader in the beauty Industry. All three companies are interested in evaluating the effectiveness of RFID in their supply chain.
Such early positive results underline the importance of the new sales channels in addition to the 15-year licensing agreement currently in place with Rexam.
In a short period of time Traxxec has opened and delivered two operational sales channels, and continues to expand its market penetration. The new beauty client represents a potential new market sector which Traxxec is keen to exploit.
CEO Amy Scopes comments, "The board is pleased that the company is now delivering revenue through two sales channels and looks forward to announcing completion of the final stage of the company development, along with positive sales stories. We believe that the company, along with key partner Rexam, is ideally placed to commercially deliver on the market potential of RFID packaging solutions."
For more information, visit http://www.traxxec.com/.
NOTES:
1. Traxxec's technology has worldwide patent protection
2. As part of the proposed business model and product development
process the founders of Traxxec, funded by the pharmaceutical
industry, have undertaken through two pilot installations a
feasibility study on product design and as a consequence of this
work, supplied a fully commercial product for evaluation purposes to
a client with an annual buying capacity of 20,000,000 bottles.
Traxxec Ltd was incorporated specifically to exploit this IP
commercially. Since its incorporation, Traxxec Ltd has also supplied
commercial product for a live, current Phase III study in the U.S. As
part of the technology transfer to Rexam Pharma, commercial product
was successfully manufactured by the company and supported by systems
software provided by Traxxec Ltd. To date 21,000 units have been
delivered.
3. The result of the comprehensive testing led to the decision by Rexam
to enter into licensing negotiation and complete the 15-year royalty
licence agreement. The market sector for pharmaceutical product is in
excess of US$20 billion, and bottles represent 30 percent of the
available market per annum.
4. Traxxec has commercial arrangements with Assa Abloy Identification
Technologies, a Swiss-based global leader in the supply of packaged
RFID component parts and with Telsonic Ultrasonics for current and
further product development work.
5. With the global patent and the relationship with Rexam, its first
licence contract, the company is ideally positioned to deliver this
potential within this very lucrative market, with revenues from both
product sales and system integrations as well as revenues form any
further development products in line with its business model.

HOPKINTON, Mass., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation , the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that a broad portfolio of EMC(R) products have been awarded Common Criteria certification for meeting the security requirements defined by the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation.
The Common Criteria is an internationally recognized ISO standard (ISO/IEC15408) used by governments and other organizations to assess the security and assurance of technology products. Common Criteria provides assurance that the process of specification, implementation and evaluation of a computer security product has been conducted in a rigorous and standard manner. In the United States, federal agencies mandate that all IT products purchased by the U.S. Government for national security systems, which handle classified and some non-classified information, are required to be Common Criteria certified. Security-conscious customers such as government agencies utilize Common Criteria certification as a determining factor when making purchasing decisions.
The following products from EMC and RSA, the Security Division of EMC, have received Common Criteria certification:
-- EMC SMARTS(R) Service Assurance Management Suite, IP Management Suite,
and Storage Insight for Availability
-- EMC CLARiiON(R) FLARE(R) with Navisphere(R) running on CX3 series
storage systems

For more information regarding the EMC products certified for conformance with Common Criteria specifications, please visit http://www.emc.com/products/common-criteria-certification.htm
To gain compliance, a product's security features are evaluated by an accredited commercial testing lab using Common Evaluation methodology. This is followed by an independent validation of evaluation results via Common Criteria authorized schemes, assessing the results of security evaluations conducted by licensed, independent labs. The resulting certification and validation report demonstrates conformance to Common Criteria.
EMC's information-centric security strategy ensures that customers are equipped with built-in, best of breed security capabilities to secure their information infrastructures. EMC's Common Criteria-certified products span key applications, secure infrastructure management solutions, and storage systems, providing the industry's leading information capture, management and storage solutions for IT procurement managers in the Federal and commercial sectors requiring conformance to a common ISO-based standard for assessing product security.
"EMC's contribution to IT security is its information-centric approach that allows customers to preserve the confidentiality, integrity and availability of their information throughout its lifecycle," said Charles Kolodgy, research director at IDC. "By having multiple products Common Criteria certified, EMC is providing a strong foundation to help customers meet their evolving data protection and compliance imperatives."
"Information Assurance and Common Criteria-certified products are a major requirement for our programs and customers," said Thomas Plummer, manager of platform security for Lockheed Martin's Maritime Systems & Sensors business. "Our programs that implement these certified solutions do so with the confidence that they are adhering to stringent security standards."
"EMC continues to devote significant engineering and development resources to ensure that our portfolio of products and solutions are inherently secure and deliver advanced, third-party-validated capabilities to our customers," said Eric Baize, Senior Director, Product Security Office, EMC Corporation. German IT Consultancy Deploys Quintum's Tenor VoIP Switches with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007Unified Communications Boosts Productivity and Saves Thousands in Telecommunications Expenses
EATONTOWN, N.J., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintum Technologies, a leading innovator in VoIP technologies, and a subsidiary of Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. , today announced that Plan B, a German consultancy, successfully deployed Microsoft(R) Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 and integrated it into their existing voice network using Quintum's Tenor BX VoIP MultiPath Switches. The Tenor BX supports ISDN BRI lines, commonly found in Germany.
Plan B chose to deploy Microsoft's unified communications (UC) solution within the organization, starting with the consultants, the most mobile employees, while minimizing the impact on the rest of the organization. Plan B deployed a state-of-the-art communications network with Microsoft Communicator and Microsoft Outlook running on the consultants' individual laptops and PDAs. Microsoft OCS 2007 and Microsoft Exchange run on servers in the company's main office, and a Quintum BX Tenor gateway sits between the servers and the company's PBX. Consultants use either Bluetooth headsets, USB connected headsets or the PC's built-in microphone and speakers, with Communicator as the VoIP client. The Tenor allows voice traffic to move freely among the company's LAN and its PBX to communicate with other employees, as well as the public switched telephone network (PSTN) for outside calls. Voice traffic can also move between the company's LAN and the Internet via its router.
"Deploying Tenors with Microsoft OCS enabled our consultants to answer their office phones from anywhere in the world," stated Alan Dutton, head of Plan-B's unified communications practice. "In addition, it lets everyone see who is available, and provides a least cost routing solution, which has saved us thousands in telecommunications costs. It truly gave us a unified communications network."
"Plan B's consultants faced many challenges with their communications network," said Chuck Rutledge, Vice President of Marketing for Quintum. "Tenors helped them easily bridge the gap between the PSTN, Microsoft OCS, and the multiple communications devices that the consultants rely on, while also improving productivity."
