Kimberly-Clark Professional Launches Interactive PPE Virtual ModelNew High-Tech, Interactive Tool Makes Product Selection Easy

ROSWELL, Ga., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Borrowing a page from the world of online retailing, Kimberly-Clark Professional has launched Symbiosis Man -- an interactive, virtual model that allows customers to "try on" personal protective equipment (PPE) products before purchase. The new interactive tool demonstrates the full head-to-toe bundle of KleenGuard brand PPE and shows how simple product selection can be.

Symbiosis Man can be found at http://www.mykleenguard.com/. The site lets users, choosers and distributors select products based on a range of criteria such as: the typical uses (electronics assembly, small parts handling, chemical handing) the type of PPE needed (general protection, chemical protection and specialty protection), and the level of protection required. By clicking on a series of icons, the user can dress the model in head-to-toe protection that includes eye protection, respirators, gloves and coveralls from the Kimberly-Clark Professional KleenGuard brand line of products. Both front and back views are available so people can get a clear picture of how the products actually look on someone.

"This tool provides what we like to call 'visual symbiosis,'" said Donna McPherson, senior category manager for the KleenGuard brand. "People can make selections and see how these products look and work together. At a time when comfort and style are increasingly important to industrial workers, Symbiosis Man visually demonstrates how PPE can protect and look good too."

Symbiosis Man can be used in conjunction with the Kimberly-Clark Professional product selector tool, which is also available at the site. Visitors first select the products that best meet their needs, via the product selector tool, and then try them on the Symbiosis Man model. Fully "dressed" images of Symbiosis Man can be forwarded to a customer or printed out for future reference.

"We consider this concept out-of-the-box both literally and figuratively," adds McPherson. "We've taken our garments and other PPE out of their boxes and placed them on a facsimile of a human being. It truly makes the PPE come alive."

For more information about Symbiosis Man or KleenGuard brand products, visit http://www.kc-safety.com/ or call 1-800-255-6401.

Provider of HR Services Will Integrate All Its Delivery Systems by Employing Microsoft TechnologyProfiles International chooses Microsoft Dynamics CRM to replace Pivotal software and to gain flexibility in development, support and training.

REDMOND, Wash., April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that Profiles International Inc., which provides Web-based employee-assessment and talent management solutions to companies across the globe, has chosen Microsoft Dynamics CRM to replace its Pivotal CRM software.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)

Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a fully integrated customer relationship management system that offers the capability to easily create and maintain a clear view of customers from first contact through purchase and after sales. The Microsoft Dynamics technology will be integrated with the organization's Microsoft Office SharePoint Server portal to offer visibility and collaboration both internally and externally to partners and clients through the Profiles Resource Center. The portal will serve Profiles International's Waco, Texas, campus, three regional offices, 700 partners in the U.S., and clients in 120 countries, which view its Web sites in 30 languages.

The new Microsoft technology replaces the company's CDC Software Pivotal CRM, Pivotal ePartner portal, Pivotal MarketFirst electronic marketing application and basic intranet site. Profiles International found the Pivotal architecture difficult to customize and develop. As a result, the company's IT staff, which has used .NET technology extensively, decided to move toward an expanded Microsoft foundation to increase flexibility and ease of development. Microsoft Dynamics CRM will integrate all of Profiles International's delivery systems, a benefit the Pivotal CRM solution had not achieved. Profiles International evaluated software from Oracle's Siebel, Salesforce.com, SAP, Sage CRM Solutions, Netsuite Inc. and CDC's Pivotal before selecting the Microsoft Dynamics solution.

Joe Kistner, chief operating officer at Profiles International, said the company selected Microsoft Dynamics CRM for a number of reasons, including the familiar Microsoft interface; its integration with Microsoft Office, especially the Outlook client; Microsoft Dynamics' vision for allowing the accounting back end to match the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM architecture; Microsoft's reinvestment and commitment to the technology; the balance of rapid development with a midmarket enterprise architecture based on .NET; and the availability of .NET resources, along with Profiles International's own in-house Microsoft and .NET expertise.

After researching several consultants, Profiles International selected global Microsoft Gold Certified Partner ePartners Inc. of Dallas to help guide implementation of the new technology. The team from Profiles International and ePartners established Microsoft Dynamics CRM sales components to support the company's partner recruiting; partner sales channel management; direct and enterprise sales; and divisions for education, government and international sales. In addition, sales and service components from the solution will support the company's customer service. Built-in marketing tools will handle electronic communication, and support staff in various departments will use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM functionality for contact management and communication.

Profiles International's latest Microsoft solutions will be integrated seamlessly with its existing Microsoft architecture, which includes Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Internet Information Server (ISS), Microsoft Visual Studio, SharePoint Server and custom .NET applications. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM solution will be tightly integrated with SharePoint and Outlook to provide employees with a familiar electronic workplace with all their information immediately available. Similarly, Microsoft Dynamics CRM will be integrated with the company's intranet, its extranet for customers and partners, and its public-facing service for delivery applications.

The availability of Microsoft Dynamics CRM, in combination with SharePoint Server, offers a range of benefits that are expected to heighten Profiles International's effectiveness:

-- Company growth. The company expects Microsoft Dynamics CRM to promote growth through increased efficiencies resulting from its familiar Microsoft environment and tight integration with other systems. More information will be readily available for better decision-making, and new personnel can be trained more quickly because of the consistent, user-friendly interface throughout the sales and support tools. -- Reduced costs. Development and technical support costs will shrink because more resources and skilled individuals are available for development on the popular Microsoft platform than for the proprietary software previously used. A more consistent and centralized desktop than was available before will be rolled out to sales staff, saving training costs. Further savings will derive from the ability to implement technology improvements on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft SharePoint platforms simply by applying releases and service packs without needing to merge customized code with new-vendor code at each stage. -- Support for company growth. With support from the Microsoft Dynamics solution and ePartners, Profiles International is able to quickly and simultaneously execute several strategic moves. -- Increased agility. Customer relationship management, the company's intranet, its extranet and business intelligence will benefit from rapid development tools, while customizations are supported by Visual Studio .NET developers. -- Revenue improvement. The company anticipates that easier tools, easier communication and workflows, more data accessible in a centralized location, more automation and improved integration compared with its previous system will boost revenue through efficiencies, along with increased employee empowerment and morale. -- Elimination of ad hoc fixes. The company's IT staff often needed to develop workarounds for its previous system. For example, they had to build their own data warehouse just to move the data to the point where staff could generate Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or print reports. Those processes go away with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint Server because a business portal makes key performance indicators and other data visible in real time.

"We selected this Microsoft technology stack so we can take advantage of its quick-to-implement, out-of-box functionality, while retaining total control of the database and integration layer so we can continue to react to business climate changes and chart new courses at a very high pace," Kistner said.

Profiles International also expects the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM technology to help improve the efficiency of internal processes and the effectiveness of accountability.

"Microsoft Dynamics CRM has proved to be a crucial efficiency tool for organizations like Profiles International that rely on the Web to reach into local business markets," said Michael Park, corporate vice president for U.S. Dynamics Business at Microsoft. "Employing the easy-to-use Microsoft interface, Microsoft Dynamics products reduce training time while increasing operating effectiveness and centralizing data for accuracy and visibility, all vital aspects of a successful customer-relationship-based business."

Open Text's 'Repository of Record' For Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Fills Growing NeedGrowth in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Drives Need to Capture and Manage Company Content Across SharePoint Sites, Analyst Firm Finds

CHICAGO, April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Open Text(TM) Corporation , a global leader in enterprise content management (ECM), today announced the release of a sponsored IDC white paper that reveals how the ever-growing adoption of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 for creating, managing and sharing documents is fueling increased demand for software that provides a repository of record for companies' vast amounts of content and data. As detailed in the white paper, Open Text offers a complete set of ECM offerings that "augment and extend the Office SharePoint Server 2007 environment so that content from Office SharePoint Server 2007 sites can be centrally structured and managed, connected to other organizational content resources, and incorporated into industry or process-based content applications."

Organizations across a broad spectrum of industries are deploying Office SharePoint Server 2007, which gives users throughout the organization the ability to see and use documents uploaded to the collaborative system. But this success is driving the need for solutions that build upon that platform, according to the recently released IDC white paper, sponsored by Open Text, Open Text and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server: The Road to Greater Productivity (IDCWP06Q, March 2008).

"At the most basic level, people need the ability to store, share and find their business documents. Organizations are struggling with information management issues, and with how to manage content throughout its lifecycle," the leading market research firm reported.

IDC found that the number one concern for organizations seeking to purchase content management solutions was the need for a repository of record "so nothing is lost." More than 70 percent of IDC's 436-member Enterprise Panel cited the need for a repository of record as their top motivator for adopting ECM. Securing intellectual property ranked second at 64 percent, followed closely with "making it easy to reuse and/or repurpose content" (62 percent). Respondents also cited the need to adhere to retention policies for compliance as well as improve collaboration around creating content and making content available through multiple channels.

Companies that make technology investments understandably want their employees-regardless of their skills-sets or ways of using the technology-to get the maximum benefits. This is driving the demand for "invisible content management" that makes content management systems a seamless part of users' systems. "This brings more employees into the content management fold by incorporating their locally stored content into the more structured overarching systems and processes for managing content," IDC said. Additionally it improves employees' access to their company's content repositories, so they don't spend as much time searching for relevant information.

Through its strategic alliance with Microsoft, Open Text offers optimized ECM solutions for the Microsoft platform, including records management and archiving that enable the implementation of a repository of record. A Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and Global ISV Partner of the Year, Open Text has built on its extensive expertise in content management to take advantage of SharePoint's resident core content services to create vertical solutions and enable enterprise-wide connections across multiple SharePoint Server 2007 sites.

"We recognize the tremendous growth of Office SharePoint Server to enhance knowledge worker productivity and collaboration, and through our close alignment with Microsoft and long-history in ECM we are well positioned to share in this growth," said Jens Rabe, Vice President, Microsoft Applications and Solutions Line of Business for Open Text. "As this IDC white paper explains, due to our rich history in ECM software, we are the natural next step for enterprises seeking maximum value from their investment in ECM technologies."

Open Text is a leader in delivering solutions that extend the Microsoft platform. Last year, Open Text opened a new office in Microsoft's Partner Solution Center in Redmond, WA., to further its relationship with Microsoft, and to better align product strategy and direction.

Combined with navigation and mapping applications such as AT&T Navigator, the handset provides turn-by-turn voice and on-screen directions with colorful 3-D moving maps that can be used in vehicles or while walking. AT&T Navigator also alerts users through voice and on-screen prompts to traffic slowdowns and incidents along their programmed travel route, and it provides customers with the option to choose an alternative route.

Customers can easily find and map local businesses, save favorite listings and get step-by-step directions to or from any location.

"The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 smartphone maintains the exceptional styling and sleek form factor of the BlackBerry Pearl franchise," said Mark Guibert, vice president, Corporate Marketing at Research In Motion. "It expands functionality with richer multimedia capabilities and built-in GPS while continuing to deliver the full power of the BlackBerry platform. With value-added services, like AT&T Navigator, AT&T Mobile Music and AT&T's global roaming, the BlackBerry Pearl 8110 is an ideal choice for customers who want a new phone that can serve both business and personal needs."

The BlackBerry Pearl 8110 also features impressive multimedia capabilities, including an advanced media player that is ideal for users who want easy access to music and videos while on the go. Premier Milwaukee Arts Center Shines Anew With LED Lighting Transformation by PhilipsLight and art converge in the newly illuminated face of Marcus Center for the Performing Arts

BURLINGTON, Mass., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- A 40-year beacon of cultural celebration in downtown Milwaukee, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts has transformed its classic exterior to reflect the dynamic and diverse programming that it houses. Made possible by cutting-edge LED lighting technology, the building's exterior now shines in endless color combinations and kinetic effects that reinvigorate its presence among Milwaukee's pre-eminent venues. The lighting installation was unveiled to the public last week.

"It has long been our mission to provide a world-class entertainment experience in a state-of-the-art facility of the highest quality. This promise extends to the exterior face of our building, which required new life to reflect our present-day identity," said Paul Mathews, the Center's president. "Not only have we been given a new face, but one that can be aesthetically tuned through color and light to coincide with performances, holidays and other special occasions."

With funding led by the Milwaukee-based Argosy Foundation, the installation perfectly exemplifies the transformative essence of intelligent LED lighting -- which provides a means to reinvigorate existing buildings without expensive architectural overhaul.

Said Mathews, "The new lighting treatment allows us to maintain the integrity of the building, while giving us a flexible way to change its appearance and even manifest the spirit of our programming."

The newly-illuminated landmark, already an icon of the local performing arts community, is sure to become an icon of the city itself.

Conceptualized by Paul Gregory of Focus Lighting, Inc., the lighting scheme is intended to mimic the beauty found in nature, incorporating the colors of famed local artist Georgia O'Keefe's work. Approximately 900 LED-based lighting fixtures manufactured by Color Kinetics (now Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions) illuminate all sides of the building, which occupies its own block and is therefore prominently visible. Each fixture can be digitally programmed to produce millions of colors and color-changing effects without the cumbersome use of gels, filters and mechanical color scrollers. As such, Gregory and team were able to design a series of "light paintings" that bathe the building in softly blended color combinations at various kinetic speeds.

"Light plays a large role in creating not only a better lit environment, but also aesthetically pleasing spaces which enhance the quality of our lives," said Gregory. "We accounted for the strengths of the building and the architect's original vision to create a work of 'light art' that mirrors the creativity of the performing arts."

The combination of digital control technology with LED sources has enabled completely new uses of light that can visually alter an entire building with the simple push of a button. At the same time, the inherently durable, long-lasting and low-energy nature of LED sources allows facility owners to keep maintenance and energy consumption to a minimum for truly sustainable design.

In addition to the Marcus Center, a number of prominent entertainment venues around the world today shine with Philips' LED lighting systems, including the Hollywood Bowl and Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, Chicago's Goodman Theatre, Stockholm's Globen arena, and Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofia in Valencia, Spain.

Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions, the new entity formed by Philips' acquisition of Color Kinetics, transforms environments through new, dynamic uses of light. Its award-winning lighting systems and technologies apply the benefits of LEDs as a highly efficient, long lasting, environmentally friendly, and inherently digital source of illumination -- reinventing light itself as a highly controllable medium. Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions also enables widespread adoption of LED lighting through OEM and licensing partnerships in diverse markets. Toshiba Adopts Synopsys Sentaurus TCAD Simulation for Development of Next-Generation Device TechnologiesPhysical Etching and Deposition Models Enable Efficient Optimization of Device Structures, Reducing R&D Time and Trial Production Costs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Synopsys, Inc. , a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced that Toshiba Semiconductor Company has adopted Synopsys' Sentaurus(TM) TCAD software for simulating etching and deposition in the development of next-generation devices. As a result, Toshiba is able to reduce research and development time and trial production costs, while optimizing next-generation device structures and yield, by quantitatively estimating process margin before and during volume production.

With shrinking device feature sizes, physically based simulation of deposition, etching and other topographical processes becomes increasingly important. This is because even minor changes to device shapes can have a major impact on process margin and electrical performance for many kinds of devices. Moreover, deposition and etching processes can also impact macroscopic features due to micro-loading effects. Sentaurus TCAD software, specifically Sentaurus Process and Device, use detailed physical models for simulating the fabrication process and electrical behavior of a wide range of semiconductor devices, and are broadly used in the research, development and optimization of semiconductor technologies. Sentaurus Topography extends these capabilities to physical etching and deposition.

"We have recognized for many years the importance of physical etching and deposition simulation in developing our process technologies. With TCAD being an essential part of our technology development, we have been able to reduce trial production cost and improve device yield," said Shigeru Komatsu, Toshiba Semiconductor Company's chief knowledge officer. "We are happy with Sentaurus Topography's performance, accuracy, and integration with other Sentaurus TCAD tools, and that's why we will be using it for our daily work in optimizing and characterizing next-generation devices."

The Sentaurus TCAD platform provides a comprehensive capability to simulate detailed and realistic process structures for subsequent electrical analysis by Sentaurus Device. In addition to the core etching and deposition models, Synopsys and Toshiba have also been collaborating to incorporate Toshiba's surface reaction kinetics modeling technology into Sentaurus Topography, allowing specific gas chemistries to be included as part of the simulation of topography modifying processes. This advanced module is expected to be commercially available in the second half of 2008 as part of the Sentaurus Topography offering.

"Physical etching and deposition simulation is a key component in our roadmap for addressing advanced process technologies and device structure designs," said Terry Ma, group director, TCAD R&D at Synopsys. Small business, small budget? How to keep printing costs under control

LEXINGTON, Ky., April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Managing costs is essential to any business operation, especially small businesses. In honor of National Small Business Week, Lexmark International, Inc. offers the following tips to help small businesses print smarter and save money.

    Print professional-quality color in-house

Small businesses in need of professional-looking color documents do not have to turn to a print shop for help. Businesses can save money by printing on a color laser in-house.

For example, the Lexmark C534n color laser printer delivers high quality color printing at speeds up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) in color and up to 24 ppm in black. Priced at $699(1), the C534n offers small businesses a way to affordably print color documents, brochures and signage in-house.

Right now, small businesses can save up to 25 percent off select Lexmark color laser products(2). Visit color.lexmark.com to learn more.

    Consolidate devices

According to research conducted by Lexmark to identify printing requirements and trends associated with small businesses, a typical small business -- comprising five to 99 employees -- owns multiple printing and imaging devices to accomplish a variety of tasks.

The majority of respondents in the U.S., U.K., France and Italy ranked the following tasks as "very important" (multiple responses were permitted):

    -- Printing documents, 79 percent -- Copying text, 76 percent -- Faxing, 70 percent

All of these tasks can be accomplished in a single laser multifunction product (MFP) or inkjet all-in-one device, eliminating the need for multiple devices and saving valuable office space.

For example, the Lexmark X342n laser MFP is a space-saving, network-ready device that prints and copies at speeds up to 27 ppm in addition to scanning and faxing for just $399(1). Likewise, Lexmark's new Professional Series of inkjet products features four all-in-ones that offer business-class productivity for prices starting at $99(1). The Professional Series also includes lifetime, priority phone support(3) as well as Lexmark's exclusive Protection Guarantee(4) with next-business-day replacement for up to one year after purchase.

Print on both sides of paper

According to the Lexmark research, more than half of small businesses ranked duplex, or two-sided printing, as a "very important" feature. By printing on both sides of paper, small businesses can cut their paper usage in half and save money, not to mention benefiting the environment by using less paper. Many of Lexmark's laser and inkjet products come equipped with two-sided printing.

    Use high-yield supplies

By using high-yield toner or ink cartridges, supplies will last longer than when using standard-yield cartridges, saving businesses time because the high-yield cartridges have to be replaced less frequently. They also provide a lower cost per page.

Lexmark offers high-yield supplies with many of its products. In fact, the Professional Series inkjet line ships with high-yield ink cartridges, delivering twice the yield of Lexmark's standard cartridges.

"At Lexmark, we are dedicated to providing reliable, high-quality printing solutions to meet the needs of any small business," said Marty Canning, Lexmark vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. "Our award-winning products and solutions can help small businesses look like big businesses without breaking the bank."

More Than 200,000 Southeastern Wisconsin Customers Gain Video Choice With AT&T U-verse TVAT&T Seeks to Hire 200 U-verse Service Positions in the State Thanks to Video Choice Law

MILWAUKEE, April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- More southeastern Wisconsin residents and their televisions can finally break free from cable providers. Fourteen months after beginning to offer a new video choice to Wisconsin residents, AT&T Inc. today announced that AT&T U-verse(SM) TV and Internet services are now available to more than 200,000 living units in and around the Milwaukee, Racine and Sheboygan areas. AT&T introduced U-verse TV in Wisconsin in February 2007 and continues to make the service available to more southeastern Wisconsin customers.

John DeVaul, AT&T general manager for Wisconsin, said that Wisconsin consumers have embraced AT&T U-verse TV during the past year. "We're looking forward to bringing our innovative video choice to more Wisconsin consumers in the years ahead. Since we've launched U-verse TV here, we've introduced new interactive features, grown our HD lineup to offer more HD channels than the local cable providers, and added sports networks that are important to Wisconsin fans -- like Big Ten Network and NFL Network."

The growth of U-verse TV and the passage of the Wisconsin Video Choice Act has resulted in the creation of hundreds of new AT&T jobs in Wisconsin. The company is currently seeking to fill 200 premises technician positions across the state, including openings in the northeast Wisconsin and south central Wisconsin areas. These positions are responsible for the installation and customer care of U-verse service. Additional information about the job opportunities, including an online application, is available at AT&T's career site located at http://www.att.jobs/.

The continued expansion of U-verse TV and the need for Wisconsin employees to service these customers is in part the result of state legislation passed in December 2007 that encouraged video competition. The Wisconsin Video Choice Act, passed overwhelmingly by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Jim Doyle, created a statewide video franchising process that is bringing real video choice to more Wisconsin consumers.

Scott VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin, said the leadership of the bill's co-authors -- Rep. Phil Montgomery and Sen. Jeff Plale -- and Gov. Doyle in creating the new state law has made it possible for AT&T to accelerate the spread of U-verse services to more Wisconsin residents and create jobs.

"Consumers and AT&T employees are seeing the benefits of the bill," said VanderSanden. "Video choice will be a reality for increasingly more Wisconsin consumers in the future thanks to the new Wisconsin video law."

AT&T is the only national provider to offer a 100 percent Internet Protocol-based television (IPTV) service, making AT&T U-verse TV one of the most advanced television offerings available anywhere. AT&T is deploying next-generation video services, including AT&T U-verse TV, as part of its mission to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work, and do it better than anyone else.
