Oticon Tapes Out Innovative Hearing-Aid DSP Using Synopsys IC CompilerIC Compiler Enables Extremely Low-Power Design for Innovative Medical Device

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Synopsys, Inc. , a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced that Oticon has taped out part of its next-generation digital signal processor (DSP) chipset for hearing-aid devices using Synopsys' IC Compiler design planning and place-and-route product, which is part of the Eclypse(TM) Low Power Solution. Enhanced design productivity, small form factor, and low power consumption were key requirements for Oticon's design. Oticon leveraged IC Compiler within Synopsys' Pilot Design Environment, delivering predictable low-power results and enabling faster time to tapeout.

"Battery life is one of our customers' major concerns. Taking advantage of IC Compiler's automatic multi-voltage, MTCMOS shutdown, and multi-threshold capabilities, we were able to meet our extreme low-power requirements and deliver new innovation to our hearing aid users," said Mogens Balsby, director of IC Design at Oticon. "Because we were moving to a new, advanced technology node and time-to-market was critical, we used Synopsys' Pilot tapeout-proven design environment, which includes full implementation, formal checking, and physical verification and leverages best-in-class tools. We were extremely satisfied with the results achieved with IC Compiler and the Pilot Design Environment on our complex design."

Oticon is the world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of hearing aids that embed sophisticated integrated circuits (ICs) that deliver massively parallel, digital audio signal processing and wireless communication. The new DSP's breakthrough real-time wireless technology enables two hearing aids to work together to process sound, similar to the way the brain receives input from two ears, to deliver three-dimensional auditory information that enhances the user's listening experience.

"IC Compiler's automated low-power optimization technology was instrumental in helping Oticon meet its low-power requirements, and Synopsys' Pilot Design Environment enabled them to complete their tapeout on schedule," said Antun Domic, senior vice president and general manager of Synopsys' Implementation Group. "As Oticon continues creating innovative products for their customers, it can leverage more of the advanced capabilities in IC Compiler, such as concurrent hierarchical design, for further product differentiation and faster time-to-results."

    About IC Compiler

IC Compiler is Synopsys' comprehensive physical design solution. It provides superior results and faster time-to-results by extending physical synthesis to full place-and-route, and by enabling signoff-driven design closure. Older solutions have a limited horizon because placement, clock tree, and routing are separate, disjointed operations. IC Compiler's XPS technology breaks down the walls between these steps by extending physical synthesis to full place-and-route. IC Compiler has a unified, TCL-based architecture that implements innovations and harnesses some of Synopsys' best core technologies. It is a comprehensive physical design system with the features necessary to implement next-generation designs, including physical synthesis, design planning, placement, routing, timing, signal integrity (SI) optimization, power reduction, design-for-test (DFT), and yield optimization.

IC Compiler is part of the Eclypse Low Power Solution, which is a comprehensive alignment of low power design and verification technologies, IP, methodologies and services built on industry standards.

    About Synopsys

Synopsys, Inc. is a world leader in electronic design automation (EDA), supplying the global electronics market with the software, intellectual property (IP) and services used in semiconductor design and manufacturing. Synopsys' comprehensive, integrated portfolio of implementation, verification, IP, manufacturing and field-programmable gate array (FPGA) solutions helps address the key challenges designers and manufacturers face today, such as power and yield management, system-to-silicon verification and time-to-results. These technology-leading solutions help give Synopsys customers a competitive edge in bringing the best products to market quickly while reducing costs and schedule risk. Synopsys is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and has more than 60 offices located throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Asia and India. "At Verizon, we pride ourselves on being a great place to work, but this scholarship program is more than a great benefit to our employees and their children," said William R. Roberts, Verizon's regional president in Maryland and Washington, D.C. "It's a significant investment in our future leaders and in the future of our communities."

The Verizon Foundation awards the scholarships in partnership with Scholarship America, the nation's largest nonprofit, private sector scholarship and educational support organization, which was founded in 1958.

A list of Verizon scholars is available on the Verizon Foundation Web site, at http://www.verizon.com/foundation.

The Verizon Foundation supports the advancement of literacy and K-12 education through its signature program, Thinkfinity.org, and fosters awareness and prevention of domestic violence. In 2007, the foundation awarded more than $67.4 million in grants to nonprofit agencies in the United States and abroad. The foundation also matched the charitable donations of Verizon employees and retirees, resulting in $25.1 million in combined contributions. Through Verizon Volunteers, one of the nation's largest employee volunteer programs, Verizon employees and retirees have volunteered more than 3 million hours of community service since Verizon's inception in 2000.

Tundra PCI Express Bridge and Alogics PCI One Chip Decoder Selected by I-View Communication for High Performance Video Surveillance Capture CardTundra Semiconductor's Tsi381 PCI to PCIe Bridge Combined with Alogics APC-915 PCI Decode and Bridge Offers Superior Performance and Video Quality for I-View's Capture Card

OTTAWA, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX: TUN), a global leader in System Interconnect, and Alogics, a leading video security and surveillance solution provider, have been selected by I-View Communication Inc. (I-View), a leader in digital video recording (DVR) for security and surveillance systems, to provide PCI Express(R) (PCIe) Bridges and PCI One Chip Decoders to enable I-View's PCIe DVR video capture cards for next generation surveillance systems.

The I-View PCIe video capture card combines the high performance APC-915 from Alogics, and the reliable x1 PCIe bridging capability of Tundra's Tsi381(TM) PCIe Bridge. The combined APC-915/Tsi381 solution offered I-View maximum video throughput performance over the PCIe interface, enabling I-View's video capture card to produce the highest video quality for their customers.

"We evaluated a number of PCIe to PCI bridges for the DVR capture card and selected the Tundra Tsi381 for its superior performance, quality and reliability," said James Ou, Sales Manager, I-View. "We were able to easily integrate the Tsi381 with Alogics APC-915, enabling us to achieve significantly better performance than any other solution. This performance advantage allowed us to quickly bring to market a product that provides our customers the best video quality and frame rate."

When combined in video capture card designs, Tundra's Tsi381 and Alogics APC-915, improve system performance by maximizing the video data bandwidth over the PCI Express bus. This in turn increases the frames per second ratio and results in optimum image resolution and frame rates in the surveillance system.

"Working closely with Tundra's world-class support team allowed us to ensure that the combined Alogics APC-915 and Tsi381 PCIe Bridge provided the highest quality, best performance solution to get I-View's video surveillance design to market quickly," said Jung Sam Park, Vice President, Alogics.

"Tundra has built its long-standing reputation on the quality and reliability of the products we deliver, and on the world-class customer support that accompanies every interconnect product we ship. I-View's use of our new Tsi381 PCIe Bridge demonstrates both the quality of this high performance part under demanding operating conditions, and the support of our expert technical team," said Tracy Richardson, Vice President Marketing, Tundra Semiconductor. "Our customers continue to confirm that our high performance Tsi381 PCIe Bridge is both low-risk and easy to integrate into their existing designs."

BNY ConvergEx Group Launches New ConvergEx CrossBoard to Bring Enhanced Liquidity to Its Block Crossing System

NEW YORK, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BNY ConvergEx Group, LLC, a leading provider of global agency brokerage and investment technology solutions, today announced that it has introduced new functionality to its block crossing system. The new ConvergEx CrossBoard(SM) uses symbol-only indications (SOIs) to give clients trading in the ConvergEx Cross(SM) a dynamic new approach to finding block liquidity, thereby increasing the probability of finding a match.

The ConvergEx CrossBoard is a graphical user interface (GUI) that displays ticker symbols in order to give clients a snapshot of the unique liquidity available in the Cross. As executions occur and/or new liquidity becomes available in the Cross, the CrossBoard symbols are updated dynamically to help clients focus on changes in activity.

Clients can easily connect to the Cross via a basic FIX destination on their OMS or EMS. In addition, the ConvergEx Cross designated order allows the client to proactively rest their trade in the Cross in order to find a natural cross for a given amount. The longer a client rests an order in the Cross, the higher the likelihood of a match.

Joseph M. Velli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BNY ConvergEx Group, commented, "Our commitment to helping clients achieve excellence in reaching their investment objectives is the reason why we continuously strive to perfect the execution capabilities that we offer them. The new enhanced functionality now available for the Cross is a perfect example of the kind of results that this commitment can provide."

"Our primary responsibility to the ConvergEx Cross trading community is to continually improve their ability to execute against the natural, agency-only block order flow that they have come to expect. The creation of the CrossBoard increases this likelihood through its ability to help clients quickly locate the liquidity that they are looking for," stated Andrew P. Levine, Managing Director and ConvergEx Cross product manager.

Launched in 2007, the ConvergEx Cross is a block crossing system that brings together unique institutional, agency-only order flow to provide anonymous execution at the mid-point with natural buy-side contraparties and zero market impact. The ConvergEx Cross provides a cost-effective, enhanced liquidity management environment that gives traders access to domestic equity shares traded by ConvergEx's institutional, transition, program/portfolio and wholesale desks as well as Eze clients, Pershing order flow and other electronic trading clients to create natural crossing opportunities for some of the largest and most diversified financial institutions.

Verizon Wireless and Country Music Star Mica Roberts Combine Talent and Resources to Help Raise Awareness About Domestic ViolenceCountry Artist to Host Cell Phone Collections at Summer Concerts and Make Store Appearances at Select Verizon Wireless Communications Stores

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, long dedicated to domestic violence awareness and prevention, is teaming up with up-and-coming country songstress Mica Roberts to address this social ill. Roberts, who is represented by Toby Keith's Show Dog Records label and is currently on tour with the legendary star, begins this effort at her upcoming Charlotte concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on June 20.

Roberts first teamed up with Keith in 2003 as a backup singer. Now a headlining solo act for the 'Biggest & Baddest' summer tour, Roberts' single "Things A Mama Don't Know" conveys some of the trauma experienced through domestic violence, an issue of personal interest to the artist. Roberts will perform during the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) annual conference in July.

"Domestic violence is a form of abuse felt by women of all walks of life across the country that often remains unspoken or kept secret," says Roberts. "I believe in the strong principles behind Verizon Wireless' pledge to eradicate domestic violence and look forward to contributing to the company's efforts to bring more attention to this national epidemic."

Verizon Wireless' efforts to help end domestic violence include the company's longstanding HopeLine(R) phone recycling program that uses wireless services and equipment to assist victims of domestic violence. HopeLine(R) collects used wireless phones, regardless of carrier, make, model, or technology and either refurbishes, recycles or sells these phones. Verizon Wireless then uses the proceeds from the sale of any donated phone to fund non-profit agencies and to purchase wireless phones for victims of domestic violence.

Verizon Wireless' HopeLine(R) program also makes financial grants to regional and national domestic violence organizations, such as the Family Violence Prevention Fund, the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and other select non-profit community interest groups and agencies. The grants fund workshops, classes and other initiatives to aid victims and help raise awareness of domestic violence.

Roberts and Verizon Wireless are teaming up to promote domestic violence prevention and awareness efforts through cell phone collections at several concerts along the 'Biggest & Baddest' tour and select Verizon Wireless communications store appearances by Roberts. Local shelters will receive HopeLine(R) grants in conjunction with Mica's concert stops.

"Verizon Wireless admires artists who use their musical talent to connect with fans and address the devastating and heartbreaking cycle domestic violence takes on women, children and families," says Carly Culbertson, Verizon Wireless' Carolinas/Tennessee region HopeLine(R) manager. "We are excited about the endless opportunities our collaboration will bring to this cause."

Today, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 4.5 million old cell phones and distributed more than 60,000 HopeLine(R) phones with the equivalent of 180 million minutes of service and other features for use by victims, survivors and organizations.

Turbodyne Addresses Rising Diesel Fuel Costs by Launching Its Fleet Services Unit to Help Lower Diesel Fuel Consumption and Emissions

    VENTURA, California, June 2 /PRNewswire/ --

Turbodyne Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: TRBD, TUD-Frankfurt) announced today that it is launching its Fleet Services unit in an effort to offset the consumption of diesel fuel and emissions for operators of fleets of diesel vehicles in the US and Europe. The biggest challenge for operators of diesel fleets with fewer than 500 vehicles is coping with skyrocketing diesel fuel costs and compliance with ever increasing emissions standards. This problem is greatly magnified in Europe with the price of diesel in some cities reaching as high as euro 1.57 per litre (approximately US$9.25 per gallon) and as the European community phases in stricter emissions standards over the next 3 years.

The Fleet Services Unit will certify diesel service centers and supervise the installation of Turbodyne's patented TurboPac(TM) to help solve this major global problem. The TurboPac(TM) provides an electrically powered and digitally controlled supply of boost air on demand that increases the efficiency of diesel fuel burn during the initial low RPM spectrum where a significant amount of fuel is used in high traffic, stop and go operating conditions. This critical mode of operation is increasingly problematic for school buses, refuse vehicles and short run transportation and delivery services in urban areas where fuel usage and compliance with emissions standards are a rapidly growing threat to profitability.

As newer, smaller displacement powerplant technologies give rise to the problem of driver operability in these urban operating conditions the electrically powered, digitally controlled TurboPac(TM) applies air boost when it is needed most, offering increased drivability, significantly reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption.

    About Turbodyne Technologies, Inc.

Turbodyne Technologies, Inc. (TRBD.OB) is a developer of patented electrically powered air movement and propulsion components that are engineered to promote lower fuel consumption and address higher emission standards for hybrid, gas and diesel internal combustion engines.

The patented TurboPac(TM) design reduces diesel pollution, eliminates turbo-lag in gas and diesel engines and increases fuel economy through both engine downsizing for hybrid, gas and diesel applications as well as low-RPM fuel burn optimization for diesel trucks and buses.

The TurboFlow(TM) design provides computer-controlled, variable pressure, high volume air movement in a small, lightweight, low power package for forced air induction for internal combustion engines.

Verizon Wireless Expands Wireless Broadband Network Across More of Western KentuckyHigh-Speed Network Gives Customers Access to Fast Wireless Internet, Email, Mobile Music and Videos in More Places

PADUCAH, Ky., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today that it has expanded the national rollout of its high-speed wireless network to include all of its western Kentucky coverage area. The expansion encompasses Burna, Benton, Draffenville, Eddyville, Fulton, Kuttawa, La Center, Marion, Sturgis and Wickliffe.

"The expansion of our wireless broadband network across the remainder of our western Kentucky coverage area provides our customers with access to the very latest wireless technology," said Greg Haller, president- Kentucky/Indiana/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless.

With the wireless broadband network now available throughout western Kentucky, Verizon Wireless customers can enjoy two prime services:

-- BroadbandAccess, the enhanced high-speed wireless service that equips Verizon Wireless' business customers with a truly untethered mobile office experience, enabling them to wirelessly access their calendars, the Internet, email and critical business information residing behind their companies' firewalls; and -- V CAST, a consumer-oriented multimedia service that gives customers access to the most comprehensive selection of downloadable music, high-quality videos and the coolest 3D games found anywhere. BroadbandAccess

Based on Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A (EV-DO Rev. A) network technology, BroadbandAccess provides mobile workers with the ability to access their corporate information as if they were attached to this data via a high-speed wired connection but with the freedom of true mobility. Developed with a range of users in mind, the service enables large enterprises, small to medium-sized businesses and mobile professionals to conduct business anytime, anywhere in the BroadbandAccess coverage area via a secure, true high-speed data connection.

With BroadbandAccess, business customers, residents and visitors can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500 kbps to 800 kbps. That means they can download a 1 megabyte email attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.

BroadbandAccess also enables Verizon Wireless customers to download files significantly faster than customers of wireless service providers that use different broadly deployed network technologies. Furthermore, customers who travel outside the enhanced BroadbandAccess coverage area with an EV-DO device will switch seamlessly to the company's NationalAccess service.

"Our enhanced BroadbandAccess service gives our customers three key advantages in wireless communication -- speed, mobility and security," Haller said. "With these advantages comes an increase in productivity and bottom-line business benefits."

    V CAST: Video and Music

The company's wireless broadband network also enables its V CAST multimedia services, which offer customers the ability to download full-song tracks, play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to the handset with top transmission speeds. With content updated daily, customers can watch dozens of on-demand videos, including breaking news, weather updates, sports highlights and the hottest entertainment clips.

With V CAST Music, Verizon Wireless has built a massive full-song mobile music store that contains more than 3 million songs -- from well-known as well as independent artists -- that customers can download over-the-air, directly onto their V CAST Music-enabled wireless phones.

    Investment

The multi-million dollar expansion includes the installation of high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the area. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed -- $5.5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. More than $221 million of this investment was spent in Kentucky since 2000.

Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States. In Kentucky, Verizon Wireless' broadband network is also available in Louisville Metro, Lexington, Paducah, Owensboro and southeast Kentucky (London, Somerset, Corbin and other surrounding communities).

Vector Intersect and Cyalume Reports a 23% Increase in First Quarter Revenue and 36% Increase in Adjusted EBITDA

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cyalume Light Technologies Inc. ("Cyalume"), a private company that is a leading provider of safety, security and training products for the US military and other militaries announced preliminary unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2008.

For the period ending March 31, 2008, Cyalume reported adjusted EBITDA results of $3.0 million on revenues of $10.1 million. This compares with adjusted EBTIDA of $2.2 million on revenues of $8.2 million for the first quarter of 2007. The increase was driven by growth in the core business as well as growth in training ammunition and infrared products.

On February 14, 2008, Cyalume Light Technologies agreed to be acquired by Vector Intersect Security Acquisition Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: VTRQ) , a special purpose acquisition company. Upon consummation of the acquisition, Derek Dunaway, CEO of Cyalume will become Chief Executive Officer of Vector Intersect. Yaron Eitan, currently CEO of Vector Intersect will become Vice Chairman of the Board. It is expected that, upon consummation of the acquisition, Vector Intersect will change its name to Cyalume Technologies Holdings On May 23rd, 2008 Vector filed a proxy statement with the SEC in anticipation of a shareholders vote to approve the acquisition of Cyalume by Vector.

Speaking of the first quarter, Derek Dunaway said, "Cyalume experienced strong top line growth in the first quarter due to the growing acceptance of our training ammunition products as well as strong demand for our infrared products. We experienced a compounded annual growth rate in revenues of just under 18% from 2006 through 2007 without the benefit of our new ammunition vertical, which we believe can generate approximately $21 million of revenue alone in 2010. Combined with other product sales during that time we believe total revenues will grow to approximately $77.1 in 2010 million from the $39 million of revenues we generated in 2007."
