Stinger Systems Stun Wave Form Radically Different Than Taser's$6M liability verdict against Taser not indicative of all stun gun technology

TAMPA, Fla., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Stinger Systems, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: STIY) , the leader in electro-stun technology, today announced a statement confirming that its advanced stun technology is radically different than Taser International's.

A California federal jury in U.S. District Court in San Jose held Taser International responsible for the death of a Salinas man, and awarded his family more than $6 million in punitive and compensatory damages.

Bo Dietl, former NYPD detective and current member of Stinger's Board of Directors commented: "In light of the recent verdict against Taser International, Stinger Systems wanted to ensure the law enforcement community and the public that its technology is safer from a current input than Taser with validated immobilization ability. Stinger has made considerable efforts to study the older waveform technologies such as that used by Taser, that put considerably more amounts of current in the body than Stinger TruPulse products. Scientific analysis has confirmed that Stinger's technology places less current into the body per pulse than the older Taser technologies. Additionally, Stinger has a microcomputer that controls the pulse output, allowing a controlled flow of energy into the subject. Therefore, Stinger's first initial 'burst' of current is considerably less into the subject than these older technologies.

Mr. Dietl continued: "The public needs to be aware that the Stinger stun technology is radically different than that of Taser. When Stinger Systems began its efforts to develop a more effective and more humane stun product, our mission was to create a technology that would not dump as much energy into the body as the Taser products. A stun gun is supposed to provide members of the law enforcement community with an alternative to deadly physical force. If people are dying as a result of being stunned, then the stun gun does not serve its purpose. Police departments across the globe are beginning to realize that they have an alternative that, in my opinion, would be less likely to bring on lawsuits at the rate Taser has experienced."

Further, the Stinger S-200 projectile stun device is classified by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as a "firearm" and therefore falls within the realm of the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (codified as 15 U.S.C. Section 7901 - 7903), which protects the company and its distributors from the misuse of its products.

Stinger to Move for Dismissal of Patent Infringement Claims Filed Against it by Taser. Taser Early in Suit Sought Technical Info on Stinger's Less Current Tru Pulse (TM) Shock Waveforms.

TAMPA, Fla., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Stinger Systems, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: STIY), the leader in electro-stun technology, today announced that the "claims construction" or "Markman" bench trial in Taser v. Stinger (U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona Case) had concluded, and that the federal judge in the case will now be rendering her rulings interpreting as a matter of law the meaning of the patent claims that Taser alleges Stinger has infringed. Absent the judge's ruling, Stinger has, as a practical matter, been unable to move under federal procedures for dismissal of Taser's allegations. Stinger will however now move for dismissal, as soon as reasonably possible after it receives the judge's rulings.

In pleadings, Stinger System's, Inc. has requested that Taser be ordered to pay Stinger fees for an egregious case, implying that Taser's suit is both specious and dubiously motivated. Taser moved early in the case to discover information on the technology used to produce the Stinger S-200's new less power TRU PULSE (TM) shock waveforms, and agreed to an unusually restrictive protective order to obtain the information. Taser is no longer even asserting any of the allegations of patent infringement that it originally filed against Stinger, though the patent case continues.

Nationally recognized authorities on stun weapon technology consider Stinger's new TRU PULSE (TM) waveform to be the first fundamental advance in stun weapon technology since John Cover's invention of the Taser over thirty years ago. The S-200's new patent pending TRUE PULSE (TM) waveform shocks more efficiently (less current) than the waveforms of prior art Tasers. Therefore, the S-200's shock violent assailants with less electrical power to achieve comparable disabling effects with less pain. H.P. White Laboratory, Inc. analyzed Stinger System, Inc.'s S-200 projectile stun gun and confirmed its take down abilities, yet studies conducted by Dr. Wayne McDaniel of the University of Missouri found that the peak current of the X-26 (Taser) shock was on average 75% greater than the peak current of the S-200 TRU PULSE (TM) shock.

Commenting on the $6M verdict against Taser International, delivered on June 6th, Ron Bellistri, C.E.O. of Stinger Systems, Inc., and James McNulty, acting in house counsel for Stinger System's, Inc., made the joint statement. "No one has ever died proximate to being shocked by Stinger System, Inc.'s S-200 or any other Stinger product. Stinger System's, Inc., has never been sued for product defect or wrongful death."

"Stinger Systems, Inc. will continue to protect itself and its shareholders investment with socially responsible sales and advertising practices and by continuing to lead in the research and development of stun product safety innovations.

Stinger Systems, Inc. responsibly produces and sells its S-200 projectile stun gun as a firearm and dangerous weapon only for use by trained and experienced law enforcement officers. Stinger makes no warranty that its projectile stun guns cannot kill, but only that they are less likely to kill than conventional firearms, and therefore can be of life saving benefit when used responsibly by trained and experienced officers. Furthermore, manufacturers of firearms, like the S-200 projectile stun gun, have the protections of the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, that is codified as 15 USC Section 7901 - 7903. The act prohibits the bringing of certain suits against firearms manufacturers for "damages, punitive damages" "in any Federal or State Court." Taser International, Inc.'s X26 and M26 weapons and its consumer weapons are not classified as firearms. Moreover, in pleadings filed in federal court as recently as last year, Taser International, Inc. has continued to argue that it is justified in having characterized its Taser weapons as "non-lethal." Stinger Systems, Inc. sees no reason for placing its shareholders investment at potential risk with such, in its opinion, totally unnecessary warranties and failures to warn.

In its safety designs, Stinger Systems, Inc. will continue to follow a research model that emphasizes the systemic effects of stun device shocks upon the human body and the demands placed upon the human heart by such shocks. Stinger Systems, Inc. is of the opinion that just shocking the heart in an insolated environment is not a thoroughly informative test.

These marketing and research approaches have been part of an early deliberated and encompassing legal and marketing strategy for both the increase and protection of the investment of Stinger Systems, Inc.'s shareholders."

Diebold and VALID Systems Create Growth Opportunities by Streamlining Check Cashing for Non-CustomersUnderbanked Financial Services Forum Today Addresses How Banks Can Use Diebold and VALID's Products to Optimize Their Teller and ATM Channels

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Holding true to its long-term strategy to enhance the cost effectiveness of the retail delivery channel, Diebold, Incorporated has entered into an agreement with VALID Systems to help the financial services industry streamline check-cashing services for non-customers. The addition of the VALID check-cashing solution to the Diebold portfolio of managed services provides financial institutions with a low-risk, low-cost-of-entry solution for broadening check-cashing services in their communities and improves current lobby management issues when cashing checks for non-customers.

VALID's groundbreaking Internet-driven identity verification system allows tellers to quickly enroll non-customers for check-cashing services, which can then be performed at the teller or through the convenience of a deposit- capable automated teller machine (ATM). Its unique, powerful decisioning engine provides fast, secure check-cashing services in either environment. Flexible rules allow each financial institution to dictate check-cashing criteria and fee-structures appropriate to its strategies and goals.

"This new check-cashing solution opens the door to a realm of new consumers, many of whom were turning to check-cashing businesses," said Charles E. Ducey, Jr., senior vice president of global development and services, Diebold. "Offering this service at the branch and ATM can generate a consistent revenue stream for the financial institution, while presenting a much more cost-effective, check-cashing option to the consumer. This solution can also be the platform for developing deeper customer relationships and expanded, profitable use of additional bank services."

In addition to enhancing the teller interaction, the VALID check-cashing solution leverages existing deposit-automated ATM infrastructures and provides an additional cost justification for those financial institutions that are still considering the value of deploying that technology, which can provide an immediate return on investment. Implementation of this new solution will enhance a financial institution's existing self-service channel offering and direct additional transaction volume to its ATM network.

"Our teller application software is rapidly becoming the industry standard for speed, ease of use, fraud management and customer satisfaction," said John Templar, chief executive officer, VALID Systems. "This agreement allows Diebold and VALID to answer the industry's need for driving additional transaction volume to the ATM by enhancing existing technology."

Margaret Bost, director financial industry marketing, Diebold, will be joining VALID at the Underbanked Financial Services Forum today in Miami to discuss how banks can use Diebold and VALID's products to optimize their teller and ATM channels usage and profitability. Those attending the conference can visit booth 12 for more information.

LivePerson Debuts Third-Generation Chat Solution for Online Retail and E-CommerceProactive Live Chat Solution Delivers 400% More Incremental Revenue

NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LivePerson, Inc. , a provider of online engagement solutions that facilitate real-time assistance and expert advice, today announced the availability of LivePerson Enterprise for Retail, a new product offering designed specifically for online retailers. Incorporating e-commerce best practices with LivePerson's proven online conversion methodology and retail industry domain expertise, this third-generation chat solution transforms online stores into a proactive sales channel.

    The Next Generation of Chat

LivePerson Enterprise for Retail leverages the company's propriety third- generation engagement platform enabling retailers to proactively engage website visitors who are most likely to benefit from live assistance. Analyzing a visitor's propensity to buy based on browsing behavior (such as click-through paths, time on page and previous visits or purchases), the hosted, rules-based platform automatically invites targeted visitors to chat with a sales representative. Interactions resulting from effective targeting and proactive engagement drive the incremental orders and revenue that distinguish LivePerson's third-generation approach.

"In today's Internet age, it is critical that your online presence be compelling and effective so that customers can easily engage in commercial transactions with your company," wrote William Band, Vice President, Principal Analyst for Forrester in the January 2008 report titled eCommerce Best Practices Adoption. "The Internet is the fastest growing sales channel for many companies. Failure to enable full commercial interactions with customers over the Web risks closing the door on new growth opportunities."

    Live Chat Value Proposition

Online retailers who have implemented LivePerson's third-generation chat platform have achieved measurable results as compared to first- and second- generation chat solutions, including:

-- 400% increase in incremental orders and incremental revenue -- 30% increase in average order value -- 85% customer satisfaction rate

"Since launching the company twelve years ago, we've never wavered in our commitment to humanize the online experience," said LivePerson CEO Robert LoCascio. "As online retail and e-commerce matures, consumers will continue to shift their spending away from stores to the online channel, and we're dedicating to partnering with our customers to benefit from this channel shift."

NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Atari, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: ATAR), one of the world's most recognized brands and a third-party video game publisher and distributor, today announced that development is complete on the highly anticipated action survival game Alone in the Dark(R), and the game is on track to ship June 20th Europe and June 24th in North America for Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Games for Windows(R), Wii(TM) and PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system. The PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system version is scheduled for autumn 2008.

Central Park is hiding a secret. Over the course of one apocalyptic night trapped in Manhattan's vast parkland, hero Edward Carnby must fight the unimaginable to survive and uncover the earth-shattering truth. New York will never be the same again.

Developed by Eden Games, Alone in the Dark for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows aims to change what gamers expect from action games with a ground-breaking reinvention of the classic franchise which debuted in 1992 and created the survival horror genre. Continuing the legacy of innovation of that first game, the new Alone in the Dark re-imagines the genre with engrossing cinematic presentation, compelling gameplay challenges and a thrilling narrative story arc.

The richly-detailed, contemporary setting of New York's Central Park is the host for a challenging mix of gameplay experiences, unprecedented environmental interaction and combat all based on real-world rules and physics. A seamless on-character inventory and health recovery system combine to maintain the immersion as the player drives the story through the free-roaming expanse of Central Park.

Inspired by the story-telling twists and turns of many blockbuster TV series, Alone in the Dark innovates once again with a DVD-style chapter select menu which lets players of all abilities reach the game's dramatic, riveting climax and get the full value out of the game.

"With its genre-busting mix of gameplay, wide-screen presentation style and DVD chapter select feature putting the player in control, Alone in the Dark will thrill all gamers," said Phil Harrison, President of Infogrames Entertainment. "It's a game which will challenge the player but also reward them with a one-of-a-kind video game experience and a huge amount of fun."

The Wii and PlayStation 2 system versions of Alone in the Dark have been developed by Hydravision Entertainment in parallel with the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows games created by Eden Studios. The PlayStation 2 system game pushes the hardware to maximize the gameplay experience, while the Wii game has been especially adapted to make use of the unique controllers in a variety of gameplay situations from driving to the real-time manipulation of objects.

In addition to the standard game, Xbox 360, Games for Windows and Wii Limited Editions will be available at launch from selected European retailers featuring exclusive items including hero figurine, art book and 'making of' documentary DVD.

MadCap Software Adds Silverlight Support to State-of-the-Art Software SimulationMadCap Mimic 2.0 Native XML Software Simulation Application Expands Online and Print Output Options, Enables Translation Via MadCap Lingo

LA JOLLA, Calif., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- MadCap Software, the leader in multi-channel content authoring and a showcase company for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft XPS, today announced the availability of Mimic 2.0. MadCap's native XML, state-of-the-art software simulation application adds new online and print output options, as well as support for MadCap Lingo to facilitate translation.

"Last year, Mimic set a new standard for enriching business communications through Web-based movies," said Anthony Olivier, MadCap Software CEO. "With Mimic 2.0, we've raised the bar by making our best-in-class features for simulation, recording, and editing available to the broader range of output formats and languages used by enterprises around the world."

Central to Mimic 2.0 is support for Microsoft Silverlight, the cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET-based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. Now content authors and trainers can generate Mimic output in Silverlight to take advantage of the smaller file size for delivering rich Internet content. Additionally, the preloading capability available with Silverlight gives users a more real-time experience.

"Microsoft is very excited with the Silverlight integration that MadCap Software has added to Mimic," said Tim Sneath, group manager for Client Platform Evangelism at Microsoft. "The combination of Silverlight and MadCap Mimic, which takes advantage of the Microsoft .NET Framework, enables a rich, Web-enabled delivery vehicle for eLearning, technical support, online Help, and sales and marketing."

In addition to Silverlight, Mimic can generate online software simulation movies in Mimic's proprietary movie format, Adobe Flash -- and new to Version 2.0, the Adobe Integrated Runtime, Adobe Air, for rich Internet media. Mimic 2.0 also for the first time can generate print output in the Microsoft XML Print Specification (XPS) and Adobe PDF.

Like all MadCap documentation and authoring solutions, Mimic offers Unicode support for all left-to-right languages, so access to these XML files is especially useful for translating movies into a range of Western and Asian languages. Mimic 2.0 adds integration with MadCap Lingo, the industry's only fully integrated translation memory system and authoring tool. As a result, users can remain in their Mimic projects while using MadCap Lingo to facilitate translation and preserve important content and formatting.

"The growth in global business is driving the demand for localized content to support the needs of customers, partners and employees, but translating the rich content of simulation movies presents special challenges," said Patricia Dear, product manager for MadCap Mimic. "The integration of Mimic 2.0 with MadCap Lingo helps bring down barriers to localization by simplifying the translation process and eliminating file transfers that lead to errors."

    Mimic Offers Flexible, Integrated Editing

Mimic follows in the footsteps of Flare, MadCap's flagship multi-channel content authoring software. Like Flare, Mimic is a flexible, open-architecture application that produces XML files. This allows users to open movie files -- before or after generation -- and edit text in individual movie frames.

Mimic also is tightly integrated with Flare, making the software simulation application particularly user-friendly for authors of online content. Mimic can be launched from within the Flare interface, and Flare authors can quickly insert links to Mimic movies from topics, tables of contents, and browse sequences.

A powerful feature of Mimic's integration with Flare is the use of variables (content that can be customized as needed for delivery to different audiences). A user can, not only directly insert a variable into Mimic, but also create a link to a Flare project, so that the Flare project's variables can be inserted into the Mimic movie. Using this feature, which is unique to MadCap's software, an author can modify a definition for the linked variable in Flare, and it will change in Mimic movies simultaneously, resulting in true single-sourcing across the two products.

The smaller size of movies generated in the Mimic movie format means authors can include instructional movies while ensuring that the overall size of a Help or training system does not become bloated. Additional key Mimic features include automatic or manual recording, a wide variety of recording options, a visual timeline, audio integration, palettes for re-using buttons and other frame objects, input boxes, animated typing boxes, and various special effects.

    Pricing and Availability

Mimic 2.0 is available today both separately and as part of the MadCap MadPak, the industry's first single-source suite for multi-channel publishing. A standalone Mimic package is priced at $299 per license. The MadPak, which also includes MadCap Flare, Capture, Echo and Analyzer, is available for $1,299 per license. Annual support starts at $149 per year.

AT&T U-verse Voice Launches in Oklahoma CityNext-Generation Voice Service Offers Convenient Integrated Wired and Wireless Features, Reliable Call Quality

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. today announced the availability of AT&T U-verse(SM) Voice in parts of Oklahoma City, bringing consumers a next-generation digital voice service delivered over the AT&T U-verse Internet Protocol (IP) network. U-verse Voice brings together your AT&T wireline and wireless voice, broadband and TV services -- all on one bill -- with unique features that provide a new level of integration, convenience and control.

AT&T U-verse Voice completes the company's IP triple play and is available to all new and existing U-verse TV customers in the Oklahoma City area. With U-verse Voice, customers receive new features that highlight the benefits of having advanced video, broadband, wireless and wireline voice services from a single provider.

AT&T U-verse Voice is a managed IP-based service that is delivered over AT&T's fiber-rich network, unlike many Voice over IP (VoIP) providers that offer best-effort digital phone services over the public Internet. This allows U-verse Voice customers to enjoy great sound quality and reliability, as well as unmatched calling features that combine with your AT&T U-verse TV, broadband and wireless services from AT&T.

"AT&T U-verse Voice is one more way we're making all of our AT&T services work together for you and connecting you to your world," said Ryan Stafford, general manager, AT&T Oklahoma and Arkansas. "U-verse Voice uses the power of IP to enhance the calling experience. Just like U-verse TV has changed the way people watch television, U-verse Voice will change the way people use their home phone."

AT&T U-verse Voice has advanced features that go beyond traditional phone service and many competitors' offerings, including:

-- Combined AT&T U-verse Voice and AT&T wireless voice mail with U-verse Messaging, which provides a single voice mailbox that can be accessed from any phone line or PC. -- U-verse Central, an online management portal that gives you the option to easily and conveniently manage your call preferences, voice mail, contacts, call history and more from any PC, in addition to the ability to control call preferences from your home phone. -- An online voice mailbox to check, manage and forward voice mail from the online portal, much like an e-mail inbox. -- Call History, which enables you to view your most recent incoming and outgoing calls online or to view your most recent incoming calls on your AT&T U-verse TV screen. -- Click to Call, which will initiate a call from your home phone to any number in your Call History with one click of a mouse or the U-verse TV remote control. -- An online Address Book that is accessible from any PC and allows you to Click to Call from your home phone, to create and share contact groups with other U-verse Voice customers or to set up distribution lists for voice messages. -- Locate Me, a feature that provides simultaneous ringing on up to four wireless or landline numbers so that you never miss an important incoming call. -- Traditional calling features, such as Call Screening, Call Blocking, Do Not Disturb and privacy settings.

All U-verse Voice customers will have 911 service. Where available via the local 911 network, U-verse Voice customers will have Enhanced 911 (E911) service.

U-verse TV customers can choose from two flexible U-verse Voice calling plans:

-- U-verse Voice Unlimited, which includes unlimited local and nationwide minutes to any location in the U.S., Canada or U.S. territories for $40 a month. -- U-verse Voice 1000, which includes 1,000 Call Anywhere minutes to any location in the U.S. or U.S. territories for $30 a month.

A second phone line, which shares the primary line's calling plan, can be added for $20 a month, and each plan features competitive international rates with no recurring monthly charge. Professional installation is included for new AT&T U-verse TV customers.

AT&T's wireless customers who subscribe to an AT&T Unity(SM) plan can call any AT&T U-verse Voice number from their mobile phone as part of the nation's largest free calling community without using any wireless Anytime Minutes.

Synopsys Supports OSCI SystemC TLM-2.0New API Standard Opens SystemC to Pre-Silicon Embedded Software Development and Virtual Platform Model Interoperability

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Synopsys, Inc. , a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced support for the newly ratified Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI) SystemC(TM) TLM-2.0 standard in its Innovator and DesignWare(R) System-Level Library products. Synopsys was active in the development of this new standard, which unlocks the potential of SystemC as the virtual platform infrastructure for pre-silicon embedded software development. Designers use components from the TLM-2.0 compliant DesignWare System-Level Library to develop, verify and deliver interoperable SystemC-based virtual platforms for pre-silicon embedded software development using Synopsys' Innovator. The results can be natively executed in every SystemC TLM-2.0 compliant simulator without sacrifice in performance.

"We recognize the need for system-level solutions that improve the efficiency of pre-silicon software development as well as complete system verification, and interoperable models are key," said Takashi Hasegawa, director, ESL & Verification Department, SoC Design Engineering Division of Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited. "The TLM-2.0 compliant SystemC models delivered in Synopsys' DesignWare System-Level Library are a valuable piece of an ESL design methodology enabling the rapid development of virtual platforms."

Virtual platforms built in Synopsys' Innovator are fast, fully functional simulation models of hardware that enable development and integration of software months before hardware is available. More than 50 commercial platforms developed in Synopsys' Innovator are being used by embedded software developers today. SystemC TLM-2.0 compliant transaction-level models are the basic building blocks required to build virtual platforms for early software development, hardware/software co-design, architectural exploration and system verification. The DesignWare System-Level Library is the industry's most comprehensive portfolio of tool-independent, standards-based TLMs, and its models can be used in any SystemC TLM-2.0 compliant simulator.

"Model interoperability across simulators protects the designer's investment in TLM-2.0 models," said Mike Meredith, president of OSCI. "The newly ratified capabilities of the TLM-2.0 standard enable simulation performance previously seen only in proprietary solutions and mark the removal of an important obstacle for widespread adoption of SystemC-based virtual platforms for pre-silicon embedded software development."

The OSCI SystemC TLM-2.0 standardization has been focused at fulfilling the key user requirements of increased performance, flexibility and interoperability. Synopsys was an active participant in the development of the standard in order to ensure that it addresses the need for a high-performance interface standard. The company's efforts in the working group have included development work on the proof-of-concept implementation, examples and collateral material.

"In our 2007 ESL Market Trend Report, we predicted more rapid growth for virtual platforms once the standards issues get resolved," said Gary Smith, president of Gary Smith EDA. "Standardization of TLM-2.0 removes an important hurdle for virtual prototyping to enter mainstream adoption and to more closely link embedded software and hardware development."

Synopsys will showcase the TLM-2.0 compliant DesignWare System-Level Library and the Innovator virtual platform development tools featuring TLM-2.0 compliant component authoring and component import at the Design Automation Conference in Anaheim (June 9 - 12, 2008 in booth #1349).

"The roll-out of our SystemC TLM-2.0 compliant commercial tool and library offerings marks an important milestone for our users, and we believe that we are the first to offer a TLM-2.0 compliant tool and library," said John Koeter, senior director of marketing for IP and Services at Synopsys. "Openness and interoperability are the key triggers for SystemC-based virtual platforms to finally move from early adoption of proprietary solutions into broad mainstream adoption."

    Availability

TLM-2.0 compliant versions of the DesignWare System-Level Library and Synopsys Innovator currently expected to be available in Q3 2008. For more information, see http://www.synopsys.com/virtualplatform and http://www.designware.com/sll.

New Microsoft HealthVault Applications and Devices UnveiledMore than 40 new HealthVault-enabled applications and devices introduced to improve patient-doctor data sharing, fitness, wellness and family health management.

BELLEVUE, Wash., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At the second Microsoft HealthVault Solutions Conference today, a wide range of health technology companies introduced more than 40 new online health applications and devices designed to improve information sharing between patients and physicians; promote fitness, wellness and workplace productivity; and give people innovative online tools to manage their health and the health of their families more effectively than what is available today. These applications and devices take advantage of new features in HealthVault, Microsoft's consumer health platform.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO )

"Every day health organizations approach us with new ideas to improve the health of individuals and families," said Peter Neupert, corporate vice president, Health Solutions Group at Microsoft. "We're excited to see so many of those ideas brought to market using HealthVault."

    Improved Patient-Doctor Data Exchange

Several participating companies -- including Allscripts LLC, CapMed, CitiusTech, Eclipsys Corp., HealthUnity Corp., Kryptiq Corp. and Vital Data Technology LLC -- are introducing new health technology solutions that transfer information between a patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or clinical record and the patient's HealthVault account. This connection opens new channels of online communication between patients and physicians and provides greater opportunity to share a patient's complete health information for more informed care decisions.

Through HealthVault, for example, patients of physicians using the free e-prescribing product Allscripts ePrescribe (formerly known as eRxNOW) will be able to receive an electronic copy of their medication history, conditions and allergies, which they can then make available to their own personal health record or other connected applications. Any updates made to the patient record by a physician using Allscripts ePrescribe can be automatically updated in the patient's HealthVault record with the patient's consent.

New digital-signature functionality in HealthVault can further enhance information sharing by verifying whether data sent to a HealthVault account has been altered. With digital-signature support, HealthVault allows an initial creator or source of information to virtually sign it, enabling clinicians to check whether a piece of patient health data has been changed by patients or others authorized by them to access the data. This means physicians can have confidence in the integrity of patient data that they are not the source or provider of.

    New Personal Health Records, Applications

New personal health records and applications introduced by ActiveHealth Management Inc., CapMed, Healthy Circles LLC, Medikeeper Inc., NoMoreClipboard.com and WorldDoc Inc. will work with HealthVault to allow people to consolidate, store and use personal health information to better manage their own health and the health of family members.

ActiveHealth Management introduced the ActivePHR program, an online personal health record that stores information in consumers' HealthVault records. ActivePHR provides an electronic home for a person's health information and generates actionable alerts when opportunities to improve care are identified.

WorldDoc Inc. announced the connection of its consumer care management system with HealthVault, allowing a user to pull personal data from HealthVault into WorldDoc's systems, as well as make updates to personal data in HealthVault from the WorldDoc system. WorldDoc's consumer care management system will enable users to evaluate symptoms, understand their health issues, assess health risks and take steps to decrease those risks. Connection with HealthVault increases the relevance and effectiveness of the interventions and decision support that WorldDoc users receive.

New HealthVault-Enabled Devices and New Device Types

WorldDoc, ActivePHR and other personal health applications become increasingly useful to individuals and family health managers as the ecosystem of applications and devices that work with HealthVault continues to grow. Several new devices and device categories -- including weight scale, body composition scale, pulse oximeter and pedometer -- have been enabled for HealthVault from A&D Medical, Home Diagnostics Inc., HoMedics Inc., LifeScan Inc., Microlife Corp., Nonin Medical Inc., OMRON Corp., Polar and Tanita Corp. Individuals using HealthVault can monitor blood pressure, blood glucose levels, peak flow, oxygen saturation of blood, weight, body fat percentage, body mass index, aerobic steps, calories and distance traveled, for example, and share this information with ActivePHR, WorldDoc and other applications that can use that data to form recommendations for improving care and health.

HealthVault users also can provide this personal data to their primary care physician, specialists, designated family health manager or anyone else they authorize. HealthVault allows for adding custodians of accounts, giving family health managers the ability to help manage the care and health of loved ones more easily and effectively than what is available today.

    New Fitness and Wellness Solutions

New solutions for fitness, wellness and employee productivity also feature prominently at the HealthVault Solutions Conference. Podfitness Inc. introduced a new HealthVault-connected application that can recognize when an individual has certain conditions (such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes), illustrate the expected impact of an exercise program on that condition, and provide condition-specific information with workouts.

PureWellness Inc. has connected its online wellness platform with HealthVault to provide consumers with easy access to their nutrition plans, fitness programs, and a wide range of health-tracking tools and reporting options.

Limeade Inc.'s new Wellness Bundle integrates with leading wellness solutions including biometric health screening and fitness tracking, provided by partners Physicians Wellness Network, Polar Electro and Omron Healthcare Inc. With HealthVault, users can share private health and fitness data from these services with Limeade, enabling targeted improvement plans, easier goal-tracking, and ultimately improved wellness and workplace productivity for employees.

More information on HealthVault and third-party applications and devices can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/events/healthvault/default.mspx.

Honeywell Sending 345 Teachers From 18 Countries and 45 States to Participate in Astronaut TrainingScholarship Program Addresses Declining Interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Among Students

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Honeywell announced today that it has awarded 345 scholarships to its Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program. The teachers, from 18 countries and 45 states, will attend the programs at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from June 11 to June 30, 2008. The program is one element of the company's science and math initiative.

Over the next decade, job opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math will grow five times faster than other sectors, while the number of U.S. students pursuing those fields continues to decline, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Created in partnership with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in 2004, the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy program is designed to address these shortages by helping to inspire math and science teachers with real-life astronaut training and unique educational tools.

"One inspired teacher influences hundreds of future scientists, engineers and technicians," said Thomas Buckmaster, President, Honeywell Hometown Solutions. "After the Space Academy experience, teachers can bring science and math to life in a new way for students with the talent and passion to pursue these careers."

Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy participate in 50 hours of professional development as well as an intensive educator curriculum focused on space science and exploration. Activities include classroom, laboratory and field training which are linked to science and math teaching standards. Each teacher will also have the unique opportunity to participate in real-life astronaut training exercises including a high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, land and water survival training, and a state-of-the-art flight dynamics programs.

"We are thrilled to welcome additional teachers to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center this year and applaud Honeywell's ongoing commitment to science and math education," said Larry Capps, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. "Through this program, thousands of students around the world benefit from the unique experiences, activities, and learning materials provided to their teachers by Honeywell."

Each Honeywell Educator receives a full scholarship following a rigorous application and selection process involving competing teachers from around the world. myPhotopipe.com Launches bestbustedbroken.com Website to Help Customers VentDo you have a story to tell about a package that was delivered bent, busted or broken?

ATLANTA, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- myPhotopipe.com, Inc. (Pink Sheets: MPPC), a web-based online provider of digital photo processing and related services, today announced the launch of a community web site that is available to all who have received packages from any of the common carriers that were delivered but were bent, busted or broken. The new web site, http://www.bentbustedbroken.com/, welcomes submissions of photos of broken packages, stories of odd experiences, and user comments. Like YouTube or http://www.flickr.com/, the site is community administered.

"We decided to inject a little humor into a frustrating situation that sometimes disappoints our customers but affects a much broader community," commented L. Douglas Keeney, Chief Executive Officer of myPhotopipe.com, Inc. "When we see pictures of some of the packages our customers have received, we have to wonder why the carrier delivered them at all. This new web site was designed as an 'I'm-not-going-to-take-it-anymore' place to vent a little, and it allows our customer service personnel to vent some, as well."

myPhotopipe.com is an online photo processor of digital images. The Company has more than 19,900 customers and has been growing rapidly. As with all Internet retailers, a small but relatively constant percentage of its customers' packages are delivered bent or broken. Because the volume of packages has expanded at myPhotopipe.com, the number of damaged packages has increased, as well. "The Company considered a call for regulatory reform, but instead felt that a light touch might be more effective," continued Keeney. "We don't want to look like that crazy man on a street corner standing on a stump and waving his fist, so we launched this site and we'll let the community speak for itself."

This web site accepts advertising and features images and videos. "We like to see things pay for themselves and if this gains some revenue traction, all the better," said Keeney.

Atmel Introduces 800/900 MHz IEEE 802.15.4 Compliant Transceiver for ZigBeeThe radio chip enables long range, low power, wireless connectivity for IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel(R) Corporation announced today the availability of the AT86RF212 800/900 MHz IEEE 802.15.4(TM) RF transceiver for low power wireless applications, including ZigBee(R).

The AT86RF212 offers an industry best RF performance with a link budget of up to 120 dB in the 800 MHz and 900 MHz ISM bands available in Europe and North America, respectively. The link budget is the result of the -110 dBm sensitivity offered by the device and the maximum output power of +10 dBm. The extremely high link budget combined with the reduced path loss in the 800/900 MHz enables long range wireless communication without the use of costly external LNA or PA.

Designing products with the AT86RF212 chipset enables battery operated devices to run for many years on a single battery because of the AT86RF212's low current consumption in both active and in sleep mode. The current consumption in receive mode is 9 mA and the consumption in transmit is 17 mA at a power output level of 5 dBm. The sleep mode current consumption is down to 0.2 uA.

"Selecting a 800/900 MHz radio chip for your wireless applications gives you a range benefit of nearly 3 times compared to a 2.4 GHz device due to the reduced path loss on the lower frequencies," said Magnus Pedersen, Director of Wireless MCU Product Marketing at Atmel. "Adding the benefit of the extremely high link budget of the AT86RF212, the device outperforms most solutions available in the industry today by as much as 10 times the range. This has been confirmed by initial range tests performed by our partner MeshNetics, showing an outdoor range of about 6 km without the use of any external LNA's or PA's," he added.

"Atmel is our long-standing silicon partner, and we are pleased to pair their best-in-class AT86RF212 transceiver with our BitCloud ZigBee PRO Feature Set software on our ZigBit 900 RF module for sub-1 GHz band," said Alexey Rybakov, Managing Director of MeshNetics' ZigBit Business Unit. "MeshNetics is a ZigBee House that offers easy-to-integrate RF modules, ZigBee software and engineering services for OEMs and system integrators. By using the industry-leading silicon from Atmel, we can offer our customers high quality ZigBee modules and development tools."

To support the wide range of wireless applications requested by the market, AT86RF212 handles multiple data rates. The 20/40 Kbit/s and 100/250 Kbit/s supported by the device is compliant to IEEE 802.15.4-2006. High speed data rates such as 200/400/1000 Kbit/s are also supported enabling wireless applications demanding more bandwidth.

Security is handled by an AES 128-bit onboard hardware engine. The security engine improves the overall system power efficiency and timing. The stand-alone 128-bit AES engine can be accessed in parallel to all PHY operational transactions and states using the SPI interface. Atmel wireless solution is made of radio devices and microcontrollers such as AVR(R) offering the best-in-class combination of performance and low power consumption required for such applications. A set of firmware and applications notes has been prepared for AT86RF212 to shorten time to market for the Atmel customers. This includes low-level drivers for simple wireless applications, IEEE 802.15.4 MAC for standard compliant solutions as well as solutions for ZigBee. Updated firmware and documentation are available from the web pages of Atmel and partners.

    Availability and Pricing

Samples of the new AT86RF212 are available now in Pb-free QFN32 packages, measuring only 5mm x 5 mm. Pricing starts at US $3.21 in 10k-piece quantities.
