New FARO Gage Online Video Showcases QC Technology

LAKE MARY, Fla., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FARO Technologies, Inc. the world leader in portable computer-aided measurement hardware and software, announced today that it released an online video demonstration of its highest-accuracy device, the FARO Gage-PLUS.

    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080701/CLTU070 )

"Our customers -- machinists and shop floor personnel -- are accustomed to using rulers, micrometers, and calipers," said FARO Technical Product Manager Robert Sanville. "The video walks them through the process of how the FARO Gages are just as user-friendly as those devices, but with advanced capabilities that help them do their jobs faster with less scrap, re-work and labor costs."

The .0004"-accurate FARO Gage or the .0002"-accurate FARO Gage-PLUS are portable CMMs (coordinate measuring machines) that enable users to measure across a wide range of industrial applications. Instead of using inferior hand tools or taking a part to an expensive, traditional CMM in a climate- controlled room, Quality Control personnel can mount the FARO Gage directly to the machine producing the part.

"It gives customers the power of a stationary CMM, but with the simplicity and portability of a hand tool," Sanville said.

The video illustrates that, as the user guides the Gage's tip over the surface of a part, the system's laptop computer records all of the object's measurements in order to verify that it has been made correctly or needs modifications. The Gage then generates detailed, ISO-traceable reports to prove that outgoing and incoming parts are up to spec.

Additional videos will follow for FARO's entire product line, including application-specific demonstrations on how to resolve common quality control, reverse-engineering and inspection issues.

To see the five-minute video, visit http://www.faro.com/gageDemoVideo. About FARO

With approximately 17,000 installations and 7,600 customers globally, FARO Technologies, Inc. designs, develops, and markets portable, computerized measurement devices and software used to create digital models -- or to perform evaluations against an existing model -- for anything requiring highly detailed 3-D measurements, including part and assembly inspection, factory planning and asset documentation, as well as specialized applications ranging from surveying, recreating accident sites and crime scenes to digitally preserving historical sites.

FARO's technology increases productivity by dramatically reducing the amount of on-site measuring time, and the various industry-specific software packages enable users to process and present their results quickly and more effectively.

Principal products include the world's best-selling portable measurement arm -- the FaroArm; the world's best-selling laser tracker -- the FARO Laser Tracker X and Xi; the FARO Laser ScanArm; FARO Photon Laser Scanners; the FARO Gage, Gage-PLUS and PowerGAGE; and the CAM2 Q family of advanced CAD-based measurement and reporting software. FARO Technologies is ISO-9001 certified and ISO-17025 laboratory registered. Please visit http://www.faro.com/ for more information.

Verizon Adds 22 New Channels to FiOS TV Lineup - Including 15 in HD - for Fort Wayne, Ind., CustomersFirst in Series of Content Additions Will Include Multicultural and Sports Programming, Big Ten Network

FORT WAYNE, Ind., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon FiOS TV is now even better for customers here as the company has launched 22 new channels, including 15 additional high-definition (HD) channels. FiOS TV customers in Fort Wayne now have more than 440 HD choices available at any time, with a total of 41 HD channels and more than 400 HD video-on-demand (VOD) titles offered each month.

The first in a series of channel additions coming this year, new content includes sports favorites like the Big Ten Network and new HD channels like CNBC, Bravo and USA. The next series of content additions will include more HD channels, including CNN, TBS, Lifetime, three new Starz channels and two new Showtime channels, as well as 16 new multicultural channels.

[Note: A list of all the new channels can be found below.]

Verizon will continue expanding its FiOS TV channel lineup this year, with a major focus on HD content. By year-end, Verizon will offer all available major HD programming.

"High-definition and sports content are among the most popular TV programming, and we're bringing the best of both to FiOS TV," said Terry Denson, vice president - FiOS TV content and programming. "The addition of new HD and sports channels, along with the new multicultural content and more, is part of our commitment to lead the industry in the scope and quality of our programming."

Fort Wayne customers are the first to receive the new FiOS TV channel lineup. During the next few months, Verizon will roll out the new content, region by region, in other areas where FiOS TV is available.

Verizon Leads the Way With 15 New HD Channels, More to Come in July

FiOS TV customers in the Fort Wayne area will now have a total of 41 HD channels. As Verizon previously announced, customers will get to see some of their favorite channels in HD, including Animal Planet, TLC, Science Channel and Smithsonian Channel. Other new HD programming that FiOS TV customers in Fort Wayne now receive includes CNBC, Bravo, USA, Cinemax, HBO, History Channel, Weather Channel and SCI FI.

Those customers who subscribe to FiOS TV's Movie Package - which already includes more than 40 channels from Showtime, Starz, The Movie Channel, Encore, Sundance Channel and IFC, as well as access to hundreds of free movies on VOD - will soon have access to five new HD channels from Starz and Showtime: Starz Edge, Starz Comedy, Starz Kids and Family, Showtime and Showtime 2.

Big Ten Network and More Sports Content

For sports fans, Verizon is launching three new HD sports channels. Verizon has always placed a high priority on providing all major sports programming and offering as much as possible in HD.

The company has now added top college basketball and football action with the Big Ten Network, which will be available in both standard- and high- definition. In addition, Verizon has launched two other new HD sports channels - Versus/Golf Channel, which features live events and original programming from Versus as well as PGA Tour and additional golf coverage; and the Outdoor Channel 2, which provides programming that promotes traditional outdoor activities like fishing, hunting and shooting sports.

As previously announced, Verizon will also soon offer Setanta Sports, a premium channel dedicated to bringing European and International soccer and rugby to U.S.-based fans. When the channel launches in July, no other cable provider will offer Setanta.

New Multicultural Content for Diverse Audiences

Verizon has been focused on bringing a range of diverse, multicultural content to its FiOS TV customers. Within the next month, Verizon will begin offering Fort Wayne customers 16 new multicultural channels, including leading channels for Arabic, Portuguese and Russian audiences, among others. These new channels continue to make FiOS TV an outlet for emerging and independent networks to showcase their diverse programming.

Much of the multicultural content comes from WorldTV, a division of content management and delivery company GlobeCast, which previously signed a distribution deal with Verizon for top-tier international channels. The new GlobeCast WorldTV international television channels include MBT (Arabic), RTPI (Portuguese) and RTR Planeta (Russian). In addition to the WorldTV content, Verizon will offer South Asian channel ZEE TV and Filipino channel GMA Pinoy TV. Verizon also recently added Spanish language network Univision to the Fort Wayne lineup.

Verizon's FiOS TV service offers a broad collection of all-digital programming, with more than 400 total channels and 10,000 video-on-demand titles, 70 percent of which are free. The VOD library also includes an increasing number of HD titles, with 1,000 HD VOD titles per month by the end of the year. FiOS TV is currently available to more than 6.5 million homes in 13 states. In the little more than two years since the service first launched, the company has signed up more than 1.2 million FiOS TV customers who enjoy hundreds of digital video and music channels, high-definition linear and on-demand programming, the nation's largest collection of video-on-demand content, a robust interactive media guide, and other advanced features. TV Choice and Competition Near for Residents of the Villages of Rockville Centre and Northport, N.Y.Long Island Communities Approve Video Franchises for Verizon

NEW YORK, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Residents of the Long Island villages of Rockville Centre and Northport are a major step closer to having a real choice for their cable television service, thanks to newly approved agreements authorizing Verizon to offer its FiOS TV service, delivered over the most advanced fiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.

The Rockville Centre Village Board granted a video franchise to Verizon Monday (June 30), paving the way for video choice in the community. The Village of Northport granted a franchise for Verizon on June 17.

The two new franchises bring to 124 the total number of New York municipalities that have approved video franchises for Verizon.

"This is great news for residents of Rockville Centre and Northport, who now will have a new choice for their video entertainment," said Monica Azare, Verizon senior vice president for New York and Connecticut.

AT&T Files First Statewide Video Services FranchiseAnnounces Planned $400 Million Investment to Bring Tennessee Consumers New Video Services, Choice and Competition

NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- As a direct result of a new state law that encourages statewide video competition, AT&T Inc. has announced plans to offer video services in communities across Tennessee and to invest approximately $400 million during the next several years in fiber network upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies to bring new services, including cutting-edge IP based television, to Tennessee consumers.

These upgrades are a direct consequence of House Bill 1421 passed by the Tennessee Legislature and signed into law in May by Gov. Bredesen.

"The Legislature and the governor have created a competitive environment for video services, and consumers are the real winners," said Gregg Morton, president, AT&T Tennessee. "We commend Gov. Bredesen, Speaker Naifeh, Lt. Gov. Ramsey, Comptroller Morgan, Chairman Curtis, Chairman Jones, Rep. McDaniel, Sen. Ketron, Sen. Jackson, Sen. Finney and all of the members of the Tennessee Legislature for their vision."

The Competitive Cable and Video Services Act of 2008, HB 1421, brings a new world of communications and entertainment for consumers. HB 1421 will also encourage investment in next-generation broadband network infrastructure and will help bring new technology to Tennessee. On the first day that HB 1421 became effective, AT&T filed its initial application for a state-issued certificate of franchise authority to offer video services in communities across the state.

"We look forward to bringing Tennesseans not only choice and competition but also advanced video, voice and Internet service technology," said Morton. "It will take time to enhance our network to offer these exceptional services, but we will move as quickly as possible to compete for Tennessee customers."

AT&T's planned infrastructure and investment will include a new world of communications and entertainment through AT&T U-verse(SM) services. AT&T is the only major U.S. provider to offer a 100 percent Internet Protocol (IP)-based television service, and that makes AT&T U-verse TV one of the most robust and feature-rich services available today.

We expect to commence silicon production within the next three months and have 1,000 MT annualized capacity installed by December, 2008.

"Our plant construction and equipment installation remains on schedule. The next major milestone is the plant process commissioning phase, which is expected to proceed over the next three months. We are on track and confident in our ability to produce 100 to 350 MT of polysilicon in 2008," said Mr. Peng.

"LDK Solar remains confident in its 15,000 MT polysilicon plant construction progress, and the first phase of plant construction and equipment installation for up to 6,000 MT capacity is expected to be complete by the end of 2008," Chairman Peng concluded.

Verizon Business Recognized for Outstanding VoIP InnovationReceives INTERNET TELEPHONY's 2008 TMC Labs Innovation Award for IP Trunking With Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (BEST)

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- A new on-demand networking service that enables Verizon Business IP Trunking customers to improve the efficiency of their voice-over-IP (VoIP) networks has been recognized by Technology Marketing Corporation's (TMC) publication INTERNET TELEPHONY as a 2008 TMC Labs Innovation Award winner.

The Verizon Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (BEST) service enables IP Trunking customers in the U.S. to use idle VoIP trunk capacity in one location to accommodate an increase in traffic from another location. The BEST service capability helps customers better manage their local and long-distance traffic by sharing capacity on demand. This offering, introduced in December 2007, is currently available in 350 U.S. metropolitan markets to customers with select IP Trunking plans.

"IP Trunking with BEST is one of the hottest products being requested by our customers undergoing an IP transformation," said Nancy Gofus, Verizon Business senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "Companies that have initiated VoIP are quickly recognizing the value of replacing their traditional telephony with the efficient and cost-effective communications management capabilities that BEST has to offer."

Verizon IP Trunking, a service that connects switching systems, uses Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling and an IP private branch exchange to translate VoIP to time division multiplexing (TDM) and TDM to VoIP calls. This flexibility allows customers to harness the power of VoIP by easily replacing traditional TDM trunk lines provided through the public-switched telephone network.

"Verizon has demonstrated to the staff of TMC Labs that BEST for IP Trunking is indeed truly innovative in the IP communications industry," said TMC President Rich Tehrani. "BEST for IP Trunking has made contributions which have resulted in significant advancement to the industry."

Tom Keating, chief technology officer and editorial director of TMC Labs, added, "The Innovation Awards exemplify the best and the most unique products and services that this industry has to offer. Verizon Business has proven its commitment to quality and the further development of the IP communications industry through its BEST for IP Trunking. I look forward to seeing more innovative solutions from Verizon Business as it continues to contribute to the future of IP communications."

The TMC Labs Innovation Awards honor products that display innovation, unique features, and significant contributions toward improving communications technology. The TMC Labs Innovation Awards are granted not necessarily to the best-selling products, but instead to those demonstrating ground-breaking contributions to the industry.

The INTERNET TELEPHONY TMC Labs 2008 Innovation Award highlights will be published in the July and August issues of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.

Verizon Business offers an extensive VoIP portfolio comprised of IP Flexible T1 (available only in the U.S.), IP Integrated Access, IP Trunking, Hosted IP Centrex and Managed IP PBX. These services enable high-quality voice communications in a converged network environment, leveraging Verizon Business' vast national and international footprint and a wide range of innovative features. Multinational companies can take advantage of Verizon VoIP services in the U.S., France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, with further expansion planned over the next two months to Italy, Spain, Sweden and Ireland.

Verizon Business is a leader in developing and delivering IP solutions that help large businesses and government agencies transition to VoIP on their own path and pace. By offering new and advanced capabilities such as BEST, Verizon Business can help customers more simply adopt VoIP while making their IP networks work harder and smarter to meet their business objectives.

Endeavors Technologies Named a CRN Emerging Tech Vendor for Application Jukebox Virtualization and Streaming Software

IRVINE, California and LONDON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ --

Endeavors Technologies, the pioneer in application streaming and virtualization technology today announced it has been selected by Everything Channel as a CRN Emerging Tech vendor for its Application Jukebox product. CRN's Emerging Tech list captures companies that are delivering high margins for solution providers with innovative and easy-to-use technology that undercuts industry giants.

Application Jukebox is the next-generation application virtualization and streaming solution that simplifies the end-to-end application delivery cycle by streaming applications from their source in the corporate datacenter or other hosted environment, to any user, across a WAN or LAN, on-demand. Users are provided application access, on any PC, from any location, without the need to download or install the application. Applications perform as if natively installed, creating a positive user experience.

"Our channel program enables managed service providers, resellers and other solution providers to capitalize on today's rapidly expanding virtualization market," said Peter Bondar, CEO at Endeavors Technologies. "Partners have shared their enthusiasm over the opportunities Application Jukebox provides, both in the enterprise and in hosting applications for on-demand delivery."

According to the CRN Emerging Tech Survey, the top reasons solution providers add emerging technologies include: the technology is superior to other products in the market segment, the technology complements a solution providers' existing practice areas, emerging vendors provide better services opportunities, emerging vendors pay better attention to partners, emerging vendors offer higher margins, customers want alternative product choices and emerging vendors have better joint marketing programs. In addition, 61 percent of solutions providers surveyed plan to increase the number of emerging technology vendors they partner with in the next 12 months.

"New and innovative vendor partners can help spur profitable new ideas that Solution Providers can use to build revenue and customer loyalty, and the CRN Emerging Tech list is where Solution Providers go to find these vendors," said Robert C. Demarzo, senior vice president and editorial director, Everything Channel editorial.

Vendors who make the CRN Emerging Tech list must have an established solution provider program and formal guidelines for recruiting channel partners. They must demonstrate that its direct sales mix is trending down as evidenced by the company's revenue history, a channel positive or channel neutral strategy for internal sales compensation, and not be a dominant market share player. Final selection to the Emerging Technology list was made at the discretion of the CRN editorial team after a review of the submitted information and conversations with current or targeted partners.

    NextPhase Wireless Shareholder Annual Update

ANAHEIM, Calif., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NextPhase Wireless, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: NPHS) , Fiscal year 2008, which ended March 31, was a very important year for NextPhase Wireless Inc. It represents a year of solid execution and growth in almost all aspects of our business. In the last six months of 2007, we achieved significant growth in core product offering and announced we had refocused our efforts into the licensed WiMAX market while attaining several important milestones in our corporate mission. Successful execution of our plan to position NextPhase in this market with updated technology and licensed spectrum holds the opportunity for us to satisfy the demands of the sector.

With the increasing challenge of the U.S. economy, our efforts to raise substantial capital was a handicap but our continued focus on key growth opportunities, geographic coverage, product and technology development -- including a complete core network replacement to WiMAX technology and routing and switching upgrades -- we have uniquely positioned NextPhase as a leader in the WiMAX sector.

Two technological advances were made; we secured licensed 3.65 GHz spectrum from the Federal Communications Commission and acquired 29.065 GHz spectrum from NextLink. This licensing has allowed us to service more customers than ever before and to decrease the cost per megabit deliverable to the end user. We are leveraging our spectrum and network technology to drive a first-of-its-kind WiMAX network in Southern California.

July 2007 brought us our first acquisition of an east coast operation. With offices in New Jersey we are able to duplicate our efforts on the west coast and continue to grow the WiMAX sector. NextPhase East has taught us the proper way to develop and transition a small ISP to a full service company. We anticipate a new WiMAX network similar to California's to be installed 2nd quarter 2009.

These significant events are enough to mark the beginning of Fiscal Year 2009 as an important time in our future. With the deployment of new and upgraded technologies, the formation of strong business development and sales departments and an increase in marketing efforts, NextPhase is positioned well. No other micro-cap technology company has the breadth of technology platforms, the range of strong brands, the audience reach or the quality of products offered by NextPhase.

In addition to our brands and platforms, stand our most talented and dedicated people. Our employees represent many of technology's best and brightest developers, technicians, marketing and sales professionals, support staff and executive management. In this information driven society, a company is only as good as its employees and NextPhase has some of the best.

While we cannot expect to forecast the near term behavior of the wireless market, we are confident that in the coming months, technology will continue to benefit and pace the global economy's recovery. No other small company is better positioned than NextPhase to take advantage of this time and profit from the emergence of WiMAX.

Our ultimate goal is profitability in the second half of 2008. Attaining this goal will allow NextPhase to eliminate the need for operating capital raising events. Shareholder stock dilution will be in line with expectations. Currently, the company has less than 5 million common shares outstanding. Future issuances will be based on Company needs, acquisitions or internal employee needs once we feel once we feel the company's stock has reached the proper valuation.

As we approach our first full year of being a WiMAX company, we at NextPhase are confident in our ability to build a solid return on investment for our shareholders.

Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Thomas C. Hemingway Chairman About NextPhase Wireless, Inc.

With a mission to build a device-agnostic, WiMAX-ready, wireless broadband connectivity/content delivery platform serving all 48 contiguous U.S. states, NextPhase Wireless is focused on providing connectivity services and solutions to businesses, public school systems and local government agencies. Using licensed WiMAX and LMDS spectrum bands, the Company offers fully-integrated solutions with the highest levels of reliability, security, flexibility, scalability and price-performance. AT&T Plans Roughly $250 Million in Network Investments in 2008Company Expands Mobile Broadband Footprint, AT&T U-verse Service to New Areas in the State

NEW HAVEN, Conn., July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. has announced a planned investment of roughly $250 million in its Connecticut wireless and wired networks in 2008, marking the largest investment since 2005 and bringing the four-year planned state investment total to more than $1 billion.

"AT&T is making a substantial commitment to Connecticut and continues to deliver significant benefits to consumers and businesses across the state -- a direct result of the company's efforts to expand and enhance its network operations and the synergies that come from being part of the world's leading communications company," said Ramona Carlow, president for AT&T in Connecticut. "Our 2008 technology investment is a tangible measure of our desire to provide our customers with unsurpassed service and delivers on our promise to further innovation that will help grow the state's overall economic well being."

"Our robust wireless and wired networks in Connecticut let our customers talk, surf and view content across devices and mediums, from televisions to computers to some of the industry's most cutting-edge wireless devices -- like the upcoming next-generation iPhone," added Steve Krom, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless operations in the six New England states.

As part of the 2008 investment plan, AT&T recently expanded its high speed third-generation (3G) network to 210 additional cell sites in the state. Within the Hartford area, this brings mobile broadband capability to customers in Tolland, Manchester, Vernon, Southington, Enfield, Middletown, Simsbury and Bristol. In the Bridgeport and New Haven areas, AT&T customers will see more robust wireless speeds in areas of Waterbury, Meriden, Oakville, Southington, Berlin, Wolcott, Middlebury, Watertown, Cheshire, Beacon Falls, Woodbridge, Branford, Hamden, Shelton, Naugatuck, Guilford, Southbury, Ansonia, New Canaan, Danbury, Derby, East Haven, Bethany, Stamford, Orange, Westville, Monroe and Prospect. AT&T first introduced its 3G network in Connecticut in 2006. All of the state's major population centers are now covered by the company's high-speed network, with continued expansion to meet ever increasing bandwidth demands planned for the future.

The enhanced wireless network speed lets customers download a 5 MB file in 25 seconds, a three minute song (about 3MB) in 15 seconds and a ringtone that might take one minute and 45 seconds over slower mobile technologies -- only takes an average of 25 seconds on AT&T's 3G network. Equally as important as the network, which is now available in 280 U.S. major metropolitan areas, is the device through which a customer experiences it. AT&T's handset portfolio in company-owned stores is more than 75 percent 3G-capable.

    Expanded Wireless Coverage:

In addition to this year's mobile broadband investment, AT&T plans to build 21 new cell sites in the state. Five of these sites have already gone live, including a new cell site in Hartland, two sites in Ledyard, boosting coverage in and around Foxwoods Resort Casino, and two sites in Greenwich -- one of which provides enhanced in-building coverage at the Greenwich Hospital.

    Competitive Advanced Television and Internet:

AT&T also continues to invest heavily in its wired network in Connecticut, expanding the reach of its AT&T U-verse(SM) services, a triple-play of phone, TV and Internet services that run over a fiber-rich network to neighborhoods in more than 80 cities and towns across Connecticut today.

The company intends to continue expanding U-verse availability, offering unmatched features including the ability to:

-- Browse personal photos and slide shows right on the TV with AT&T Online Photos from Flickr.

-- Manage home and AT&T wireless voice mail messages from any PC or phone line with AT&T U-verse Voice.

-- Watch more than 40 High Definition (HD) channels with HD service and choose from programming packages with popular channels like NFL Network.

-- Get free Wi-Fi Internet access at more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, including 7,000 Starbucks locations.

AT&T is uniquely positioned to serve consumers in Connecticut with all their communications needs -- be it a new wireless phone, faster internet access or advanced television, at its 43 company owned retail locations and 25 authorized dealers in the state. AT&T's wireless products and services are also available through the company's authorized dealers and national distribution outlets including Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack and Wal-Mart. Pricing and Eligibility

AT&T is making it easy for customers to prepare for their iPhone 3G purchase by posting "Get iReady" tips and frequently asked questions at http://www.att.com/iphone. The site also will include a link for customers to check their upgrade eligibility and other wireless account information.

iPhone 3G will be available for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model. These prices require two-year contracts and are available to the following customers:

For example, AT&T has developed YELLOWPAGES.COM Mobile for iPhone, which takes local mobile search to a new level by allowing users to discover businesses and local events based on their popularity among other iPhone users, get directions and access business reviews.

** iPhone 3G is available to customers who are currently prepaid customers; however, there is no prepaid plan for iPhone 3G. Additionally, customers' accounts must be in good standing. About AT&T

DRACUT, Mass., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Middlesex County, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site. The new site increases wireless voice and data coverage and capacity along Mammoth Road, Nashua Road, and Lakeview Avenue in western Dracut, Massachusetts, as well as the surrounding area.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services like BroadbandAccess and V CAST. Regionally the company has invested nearly $2.2 billion into its New England network, including over $292 million in 2007 alone. As a result of these investments, every Verizon Wireless cell site in New England offers wireless broadband connectivity.

BroadbandAccess offers computer users the nation's most reliable high- speed wireless mobile broadband network, operating at average upload speeds between 500 and 800 kbps, and download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps over Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Revision A network. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones.

Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the first quarter of 2008 as the company added 1.5 million net new customers and, for the fourteenth consecutive quarter, reported the lowest customer turnover (highest customer loyalty) rate in the wireless industry.

The company's 'nation's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "can you hear me now" national advertising campaign. Nationally, these test men and women drive nearly 100 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high- population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

    About Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless operates the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network, serving 67.2 million customers. Headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J., with 69,000 employees nationwide, Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone (NYSE and LSE: VOD). (Pink Sheets: MEDQ.PK) announces that Noble Hospital, a community hospital located in Westfield, Mass., has selected and begun implementation of MedQuist Enterprise technology solutions to provide hospital-wide dictation, transcription and speech recognition capabilities. MedQuist's Enterprise Platform and its embedded speech recognition capability will be used throughout the hospital to help Noble's Health Information Management department progress with technology and provide a more timely, efficient, and most importantly, reliable capture of data.

Noble Hospital creates more than 19,000 clinical reports annually. In recent years, the hospital has seen its transcription volume grow significantly, and has also hired several hospitalists who are generating a significant volume of reports. Currently, Noble employs four full-time transcriptionists and has found it necessary to identify a solution to manage the increased workload.

According to Donna Wallace, RHIT, director of Health Information Management at Noble Hospital, "After visiting another hospital in the area that implemented the MedQuist solution several months ago, the other members of the selection team and I were very impressed, and all agreed that we wanted to proceed immediately with implementing this solution, too. We are especially excited and looking forward to leveraging speech recognition, as we are convinced this technology will allow us to be much more efficient as our organization continues to grow."

Noble Hospital takes pride in being a progressive and innovative institution, and staying current with high-tech and cost-effective solutions that facilitate exceptional patient care. In 2006, Noble earned the Massachusetts Hospital Association Excellence in Patient Safety award as a result of its efforts to prevent medical errors. "The MedQuist Enterprise solution will allow us to provide faster clinical documentation service to our physicians and clinicians, who need this information to ensure they provide the best patient care possible," says Wallace.

Scott Bennett, MedQuist senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, comments, "Noble has been a MedQuist customer for many years, and we are pleased that they again have selected MedQuist for a new generation of speech-enabled transcription solutions. Our local service and sales personnel, who know the hospital and its staff quite well, will allow Noble to easily transition from its legacy system to the Enterprise solution."

Worldstock Offers to Ship 400-Pound Rug for $2.95Unusual item demonstrates Overstock.com's generous shipping terms

SALT LAKE CITY, July 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Overstock.com, Inc. today announced that Worldstock, its socially responsible division that sells handmade items from artisans around the world, is offering a large antique rug for immediate purchase on its site.

Overstock.com is an online retailer known for discounts and its $2.95 per-order shipping policy. The tens of thousands of items it offers for sale range from electronics to clothes. Although Overstock.com also offers indoor and outdoor furniture, most items are considerably lighter than the Persian rug which weighs at least four hundred pounds.

The rug measures 26.9 feet by 37 feet and was hand-woven in the 1920s by a semi-nomadic group of people living in the village of Meshkabad, near Arak in northwestern Iran. It is unusual for tribal people to weave such a large rug. The rug's rareness and excellent condition were factors in its $149,999.99 price.

"This item is indicative of the flexibility of the Worldstock site. Almost all of the handmade items we sell are newly made. This rug is an unusual offering, both in general and for our site," said Patrick Byrne, Overstock.com's chairman and chief executive officer. "Of course you can't ignore the offer to ship the rug for $2.95. That policy keeps our customers coming back and clearly, the person who buys this rug will enjoy great value."

The rug came to Worldstock through a vendor who sells the recently fashioned wares of the nomadic tribe's current members.

"Our incentive to sell the rug on our site includes the hope that it will go to an owner who appreciates its historical and cultural value and will care for it accordingly. It would be an ideal purchase for a museum, a grand hotel, or maybe someone who has fine taste and a large home," said Worldstock Director Angela Ramirez.

To find the rug go to http://www.overstock.com/Worldstock/Persian-Antique- Mesh.kabad-Rug-269-x-37/3168624/product.html or go to Overstock.com and search "Meshkabad."

TI introduces new analog front end with best-in-class power optimization for portable ultrasound systemsSecond device in popular product family consumes more than 30 percent less power than competition

DALLAS, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today introduced a new fully integrated analog front end (AFE) for portable ultrasound equipment. The second device in TI's AFE58xx family for the medical ultrasound market, the AFE5804 is specifically designed for ultrasound systems that require low power and small size. The eight-channel AFE consumes more than 30 percent less power than the closest competitive device, which will help proliferate portable systems with longer battery life and better image quality (see http://www.ti.com/afe5804-pr).

Advanced features for portable ultrasound system designs

Featuring 102 mW/channel at 1.25 nV/rtHz at 40 MSPS, the fully integrated AFE5804 offers best-in-class power performance while maintaining superior image quality in portable equipment. The eight-channel device contains a low- noise amplifier (LNA), a voltage controlled attenuator (VCA), a programmable gain amplifier (PGA), a low-pass filter (LPF) and a 12-bit, 10 MSPS to 50 MSPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with LVDS data outputs.

The gains of the LNA, VCA and PGA fine-tune the image quality being received for processing, thus enhancing the user experience. The LNA is set for 20 dB gain and has excellent noise and signal handling capabilities, including a 280 mVpp input range and fast overload recovery. The gain of the VCA can be varied over a 46 dB range with a 0-V to 1.2-V control voltage common to all channels of the AFE5804. The PGA can be programmed for gains of 20 dB, 25 dB, 27 dB and 30 dB. The LVDS outputs of the ADC reduce the number of interface lines to the ASIC or FPGA, thereby enabling the high systems integration densities desired for portable systems.

Programmable mode control for power/noise optimization

The AFE8504 features mode control to give designers the flexibility to program the level of noise and power performance needed to optimize their system.

    Low-noise -- 0.92 nV/rtHz (TGC-Mode I) -- 1.25 nV/rtHz (TGC-Mode II) -- 1.1 nV/rtHz (CW and PW mode) Low-power -- 112 mW/Ch (TGC-Mode I) -- 102 mW/Ch (TGC-Mode II) -- 105 mW/Ch (PW mode) -- 65 mW/Ch (CW mode) Full portfolio for easy, high-quality ultrasound system design

TI's AFE58xx family allows the design of innovative ultrasound systems with superior image quality and reduced power consumption. The first device, the AFE5805, was introduced in March 2008, targeting the portable to mid-range ultrasound market. The new AFE5804 is pin-to-pin compatible to ease migration to an even lower power solution, should a design require it. For more information on TI's AFE58xx family, please visit http://www.ti.com/ultrasound.

In addition to the AFE58xx family, TI offers a full portfolio of integrated circuits for ultrasound systems and other medical imaging equipment, including high performance digital signal processors (DSPs), DaVinci(TM) digital media processors, OMAP(TM) application processors, high- speed data converters and amplifiers, power management, clocks and interface devices as well as wireless connectivity solutions. To download TI's latest Medical Applications Guide and view a broad range of system block diagrams, please visit http://www.ti.com/medical.

    Pricing, packaging and availability

The AFE5804 is sampling today in a 15 mm x 9 mm, 135-pin BGA package. Volume quantities are scheduled for September 2008, at a suggested retail price of $62 each in 1,000-unit quantities. Evaluation modules are also scheduled for September 2008.
