Redline and Tranzeo Collaborate on WiMAX Interoperability

    TORONTO, Canada, July 2 /PRNewswire/ --

    - Tranzeo's WiMAX Subscriber Units Achieve Silver Status in Redline Ecosystem Verification(TM) Program

Redline Communications Group Inc. (TSX and AIM: RDL), a leading provider of WiMAX broadband wireless products, today announced the addition of the Tranzeo Wireless Technologies' (TSX:TZT) WiMAX subscriber units to the Redline Ecosystem Verification(TM) ('REV') program. The Tranzeo products have achieved Silver status in the REV program which is designed to accelerate the deployment of interoperable WiMAX networks around the globe.

"Redline is a recognized leader in the WiMAX industry, for its technology, system performance, and commitment to furthering interoperability among the WiMAX ecosystem," said Dave Gelvin, President Tranzeo Wireless, USA. "We are excited to be part of Redline's REV program and to offer operators a greater selection of interoperable WiMAX subscriber units that support their customers' requirements, and enable a strong return on investment."

REV interoperability testing confirms that carriers can incorporate Redline's RedMAX(TM) AN-100U and AN-100UX WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) base stations and Tranzeo's 3.5GHz WiMAX TR-WMX-3.5 outdoor modems in their WiMAX networks. The REV program augments the testing for WiMAX Forum Certification, verifying that carriers can achieve connectivity between both the Redline infrastructure and Tranzeo devices in their network.

"Redline is one of the first companies to develop a program to test the interoperability of WiMAX products. This program really focuses on offering a much broader range of WiMAX certified products to carriers. It also helps to drive down the price of WiMAX, making it a more cost effective option to carriers worldwide," says Kevin Suitor, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Redline Communications.

    The Redline Ecosystem Verification Program

The Redline Ecosystem Verification program verifies connectivity and performance between Redline's RedMAX and RedMAX 4C Mobile WiMAX products and other WiMAX devices, enabling carriers to accelerate the deployment interoperable networks. The program also includes Redline's RedCONNEX and RedACCESS families, which are used by carriers around the world to support high-bandwidth voice, video and data services. Several WiMAX equipment companies, including base station, customer premise equipment and chip manufacturers, as well as WiMAX peripherals vendors, are now taking part in the REV program.

    Redline's RedMAX(TM) Family

Redline's RedMAX(TM) family of WiMAX solutions includes the world's first complete system to receive the WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) mark for conformance to the WiMAX standards for performance and interoperability. Redline's carrier-class RedMAX(TM) Base Station (AN-100U) supports voice, video, and prioritized data traffic, enabling long-range, high-capacity wireless broadband networks. Redline's WiMAX products also include the RedMAX(TM) Indoor Subscriber Unit (SU-I) and Outdoor Subscriber Unit (SU-O) designed for enterprise and residential services. The RedMAX(TM) Management Suite enables operators to monitor and control the network, ensuring high service availability. Redline is maintaining its WiMAX leadership with the expansion of its RedMAX(TM) family to include products for additional frequency bands, applications and standards.

    RedMAX 4C(TM) Mobile WiMAX

The RedMAX 4C(TM), which is based on the WiMAX industry's 802.16e-2005 standards for mobile WiMAX, supports a wide range of fixed, portable and mobile wireless services including support Voice and Video over IP, broadband Internet access used to support highly valued education, medical, transportation and municipal applications, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and other advanced communications services. The RedMAX 4C(TM) Mobile WiMAX platform is designed to enable operators to maximize the reach and customer density required for a profitable carrier business model. The RedMAX 4C(TM) includes a modular, standardized (micro)TCA (micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture) chassis base station that is small, lightweight and easy to deploy. RedMAX 4C(TM) will also include a suite of indoor and outdoor fixed and portable end-user devices including laptops, mobile handsets and PDAs. Redline's new WiMAX offering is also designed to facilitate the integration of its existing RedMAX(TM) products with its RedMAX 4C(TM) technologies, providing operators a path to true mobility.

Optimus Selects NeuStar to Bring Converged Instant Messaging Services to Portugal

LONDON, July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NeuStar today announced that Portuguese mobile operator Optimus has selected NeuStar's Next Generation Messaging (NGM) services to power Optimus' multi-community converged instant messaging (IM) service and new IP-based services.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080310/NEUSTARLOGO )

Optimus will be the first mobile operator in the world to deliver both an "own-branded" IM service that can be accessed from the PC and the mobile through NeuStar's industry-leading Instant Messaging Service Centre (IMSC) and to offer the popular Windows Live Messenger service through NeuStar's Mobile Messaging Gateway (MMG). Optimus also has invested in both NeuStar's Interconnect Platform (ICP) in order to interconnect to other mobile IM services across Portugal, and NeuStar's Presence Platform (PSP) to provide powerful presence capabilities across the Optimus network.

NeuStar's converged IM and Presence solutions enable Optimus to launch and roll out engaging and feature-rich services to its customer base of more than 2.6 million users. Optimus' IM and Presence services give subscribers new choices in communications, enabling people to instantly share experiences and express themselves at any time.

Jose Pinto Correia, CTO at Optimus, said: "We have a huge belief in IM, which is why we are launching an ISP and an Optimus-branded service simultaneously. NeuStar was the obvious partner for us because of its vast experience in the market and its ability to deploy IM and new IP services -- both operator-branded and ISP solutions together -- quickly and successfully."

"We have seen mobile IM become the third 'core service' after voice and text," said Allen Scott, general manager of NeuStar NGM. "Having delivered IM solutions to operators across the world that have a collective customer base of more than half a billion users, NeuStar is confident that we can provide Optimus with an advanced service that will generate significant revenue for them and enable Optimus subscribers to 'communicate in context.'"

The service provided to Optimus will incorporate the following additional functionality within NeuStar's solution:

NeuStar's Mobile Messaging Gateway (MMG): Mobilising ISP IM

NeuStar's MMG now supports Microsoft Service Protocol 3.0, enabling more functionality for the user. Users can experience avatars, send and receive nudges, and enhance their profiles with status text within Microsoft Windows Live Messenger.

Furthermore, Microsoft has agreed to use MMG for native client enablement. This will allow users of devices with a Microsoft client embedded in them to more easily access operator mobile IM services, and will allow operators to enable easier access and billing to the Windows Live Messenger services.

NeuStar's Presence Platform (PSP): Delivering Presence Services to Operators

The PSP, NeuStar's market-leading presence solution, provides horizontal Presence and Group Management capabilities and is fully compliant with OMA XDM 2.0 standards -- thus enabling network address book deployment. This enables users to see much richer profile information from within the phone's address book. Furthermore, the PSP enables operators to more easily establish, manage, and control access to specific content (e.g., using age profile information).

NeuStar's Instant Messaging Service Centre (IMSC): Delivering Operator Mobile IM

NeuStar's IMSC solution now has an enhanced SMS continuity service that enables full two-way continuity between SMS and mobile IM. A user of SMS can now send a message to an IM user -- and if the IM user is online, he or she will receive the message as an IM that identifies the sender. This development instantly enables every mobile user to enjoy the benefits of mobile IM; it also supports the GSM Association's Personal IM initiative.

IMSC is also GSMA 2.0-compliant. In addition, the deployed release of IMSC is capable of IMS (SIP) and legacy (IMPS) network interoperability, providing a "future-proof" solution for operators delivering an IP network in the future.

EPA recognizes Texas Instruments as a Clean Air Excellence Award WinnerTI earns recognition for Clean Air Technology

DALLAS, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) was among 11 winners named to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's eighth annual Clean Air Excellence Awards for outstanding accomplishments in improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The awards were presented recently at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

There are four categories of awards: clean air technology, community action, education/outreach, and regulatory policy innovations. TI and Matros Technologies Inc., (MT) were recognized for innovative clean air technology they developed jointly, which improves abatement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in semiconductor manufacturing.

"This year's Clean Air Excellence Award winners' dedication to creating a cleaner tomorrow is truly a breath of fresh air," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "From local to state governments, companies to citizen groups, these award-winners are helping EPA deliver healthier air and healthier lives to all Americans."

TI and Matros Technology initially collaborated to reduce emissions at three of TI's semiconductor manufacturing facilities. As a result of the joint research and development, the companies discovered added environmental benefits.

The installation of the Matros copper-chromium catalyst reduced NOx emissions and improved VOC performance. The catalyst installation made it possible to combine the low temperature of catalytic oxidation with the high thermal efficiency of regenerative heat exchange, providing three primary environmental benefits.

First, due to the much lower oxidation temperature, the regenerative catalytic oxidizer operates using 50 to 60 percent less fuel and generates approximately 40 percent less NOx. Second, due to the nature of the catalyst, greater than 99 percent destruction efficiency can be maintained longer, improving energy recuperation and reducing maintenance activities. Finally, using MT's catalyst reduces the volume of packing material disposed annually.

Additionally, this technology reduces the use of natural gas as well as materials and labor and disposal costs. The collaboration of TI and Matros Technologies has successfully reduced air emissions and material disposal at TI and can be applied globally to similar facilities in the industry.

The Clean Air Excellence Awards recognize and honor outstanding, innovative efforts that make progress in achieving cleaner air. The Awards were established in 2000, at the recommendation of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee (CAAAC), a senior-level policy group that advises EPA on implementing the Clean Air Act. AT&T Answers the Need for Speed in Suffolk CountyCompany Delivers Supercharged Wireless Access to Mobile Applications and Interactive Content to More Places on Long Island

DEER PARK, N.Y., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Watch video on the go. Surf the wireless Internet at DSL-like speeds. Share live video during a cell phone call. AT&T announced today these services and more are available on the third-generation (3G) mobile broadband network in Suffolk County which will also include the iPhone 3G launching on July 11. The AT&T 3G network on Long Island now extends from New York City through Nassau, Suffolk Counties out to Montauk Point and covers Fire Island, Shelter Island and Fisher's Island.

"AT&T is committed to delivering a superior network experience every time our customers make a call, send a text message or read an e-mail on their AT&T wireless device," said Jay Summerson, vice president, AT&T External Affairs for New York. "In 2008, AT&T plans to spend more than $200 million to enhance, expand coverage and capacity and grow the 3G network. Since 2005, AT&T's planned investment in the state has exceeded more than $1 billion."

With the addition of 3G technology to over 100 cell sites, AT&T's fastest wireless data network is available in Babylon, Huntington, Islip, Smithtown, Brookhaven, Riverhead, East Hampton, South Hampton and Southold. The network upgrade also gives students, faculty and visitors to Stony Brook University, Suffolk County Community College, Polytechnic University, and Southampton College of Long Island University fast and dependable wireless access to entertainment, news, e-mail and the Internet.

The 3G network was also been beefed up along the Long Island Expressway, Northern State Parkway, Southern State Parkway, Sunrise Highway, Sagtikos/Sunken Meadow Parkway and Routes 25 & 25A and along the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Montauk branches of the Long Island Railroad.

Benefits of the AT&T 3G Network

AT&T's 3G network provides the simultaneous delivery of voice and data -- a capability not offered by all wireless providers. With a compatible 3G device, consumers connect to razor-sharp clips through CV, an on-demand streaming video service, and can quickly download games, pictures and the latest music, entertainment, news and weather through MEdia(TM) Net, the company's mobile Internet portal. The 3G network can also allow customers to take advantage of groundbreaking services such as AT&T Video Share which allows users to share live video over wireless phones while carrying on a voice call. Road warriors can use their device as a wireless modem for their laptop and dial into a conference call at the same time.

"Mobile business users can increase productivity with quick access to large files, corporate applications or the Internet with AT&T's LaptopConnect," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T's wireless division in New York and New Jersey. "All that's required is a LaptopConnect card or a laptop with embedded 3G service, software and an AT&T data plan."

AT&T uses HSPA/UMTS (High Speed Packet Access/Universal Mobile Telephone System) technology, which is based on the world standard GSM (Global Systems for Mobile Communications).

HSPA is the most advanced GSM data technology, providing average downlink speeds between 700-1700 kilobits per second (Kbps) for advanced devices. These enhanced speeds allow AT&T customers to download a 5 MB file in 25 seconds, a three minute song (about 3MB) in 15 seconds and a Ringtone that might take one minute and 45 seconds over slower mobile technologies -- only takes an average of 25 seconds on AT&T's 3G network.

With the new addition of HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) technology, AT&T customers can enjoy uplink speeds between 500 and 1.4 Mbps. The new upload speeds complement AT&T's 3G download capabilities, which currently offer up to 1.7 Mbps across all markets for customers who have capable devices, such as AT&T's LaptopConnect wireless modems.

Equally as important as the network is the device through which a customer experiences it. AT&T's handset portfolio in company-owned stores is more than 75 percent 3G-capable -- and will be even more enticing with a fresh selection of 3G-enabled smartphones in the summer and fall of 2008.

AT&T's 3G network is now available in 280 U.S. major metropolitan areas. The company will deliver 3G service to nearly 350 leading U.S. markets by the end of 2008.

Customers who use a GSM phone, such as those offered by AT&T, can take their device and browse the Web and perform other data functions in more than 145 countries. They can make a wireless phone call in 200 countries and territories or on 75 cruise ships worldwide.

AT&T Expands Wireless Network for Syracuse CustomersNetwork Upgrade is Part of a Planned $80 Million Investment in Upstate New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. is supporting its continued commitment to Syracuse area customers with the largest wireless network investment in the region since 2005. The company's planned $80 million investment in the upstate/western New York area this year will bring the planned four-year territory investment total to more than $250 million.

AT&T has delivered dramatic change to the network experience for customers in the Syracuse area -- a direct result of the company's ongoing efforts to expand and enhance its network operations and the synergies that come from being part of the world's largest communications company.

Part of the 2008 investment plan calls for more than 50 new cell sites in upstate. Locally, AT&T plans to double the size of its high speed mobile broadband footprint in the Syracuse area. AT&T's high speed 3G wireless network currently brings mobile broadband capability to customers in Clay, Cicero, East Syracuse, Fayetteville, Liverpool, Manlius, Minoa, North Syracuse, Solvay and Syracuse in Onondaga County. Later this fall, AT&T will bring its 3G network to additional cities and towns in Onondaga County, and expand to parts of Oswego County as well.

"AT&T's wireless network in Syracuse is better than ever. We aren't the same AT&T that you might have known years ago. Our planned network investment this year underscores our dedication to consumers and businesses in upstate New York," said Jay Summerson, vice president, External Affairs for AT&T in New York.

"We have not only enhanced voice quality and boosted our in-building coverage -- but we've also enabled our customers to work faster without wires -- and enjoy more robust speeds on their laptops and mobile phones," added Bob Holliday, vice president and general manager of AT&T's wireless operations in upstate New York.

The enhanced wireless network speed lets customers download a 5 MB file in 25 seconds, a three minute song (about 3MB) in 15 seconds and a ringtone that might take one minute and 45 seconds over slower mobile technologies -- only takes an average of 25 seconds on AT&T's 3G network. Equally as important as the network, which is now available in more than 280 U.S. major metropolitan areas, is the device through which a customer experiences it. AT&T's handset portfolio in company-owned stores is more than 75 percent 3G-capable. By year-end, the company plans to offer 3G service in nearly 350 major metropolitan U.S. areas.

Nokia Wireless Loopset Enhances Mobile Communications for T-coil Equipped Hearing Aid Users

ESPOO, Finland, July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia today announced the Nokia Wireless Loopset, an accessory designed specifically for improved mobile communications for people with hearing aids. With a T-coil equipped hearing aid or cochlear implant, this practical device can help hearing aid users enjoy premium audio quality and hands-free operation of their mobile devices and other compatible audio devices. The Loopset is expected to start shipping worldwide in the first quarter 2009, with an estimated price of less than 200 Euros, before applicable taxes or subsidies.

"The Nokia Wireless Loopset provides hearing aid users with a hassle-free and hands-free connection to their mobile phones," said Peeta Piiparinen, R&D Specialist, Nokia. "Sound is amplified more efficiently, while the distance between the phone and hearing aid means that the possibility of interference is greatly reduced. The loopset filters out background noise, which increases speech discrimination, and offers excellent audio quality in a range of environments such as the car, office, or even in windy conditions outdoors."

Compatible with handsets that use Bluetooth connectivity, the Loopset enables mobile calls to be accessed wirelessly through the hearing aid. Key features of the Nokia Wireless Loopset include a vibrating alert, user adjustable sidetone level for enhanced clarity and control of own voice, and optimized volume range and frequency response. With ease of use in mind, it comes with a comfortable neck loop and a single button for call handling.

The design and development of all Nokia loopsets has been inspired and developed by Nokia employees who are hard of hearing. Nokia introduced the first loopset, the Nokia LPS-1, more than a decade ago. Prior to this, people with hearing aids had faced difficulties in using digital mobile phones in noisy environments or due to interference picked up from the radio transmission of the phone. The Nokia LPS-1 loopset was the first product of its kind in the world, enabling people with T-coil equipped hearing aids to use a digital mobile handset.

"At Nokia, we continuously study how we can better address the needs of people with physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments, so that also they have full access to mobile technology," said Mikko Haho, key engineer behind the Nokia Wireless Loopset, who himself is hard of hearing. "My favorite story was from the early days - probably 1998 or 1999. We were at a conference demonstrating the first Nokia loopset. A lady came up who seemed a bit dubious about the device, but we hooked her up with it. Next thing we know, her eyes are tearing up as she has a conversation with her daughter. When she hung up, she told us that this was the first time she had been able to have a phone conversation with her daughter in three years. That kind of response really motivates us to continue to focus on making mobile technology accessible for all."

Nokia has a range of products and related accessories to help improve accessibility for people with disabilities. A full listing of available solutions and support can be found at http://www.nokiaaccessibility.com/.

New TI amplifiers reduce audio solution cost for flat panel TVs15-W Class-D amplifiers operate from 24-V backlight supply and drive single-ended outputs

DALLAS, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today introduced its second-generation, 15-W, stereo analog-input Class-D amplifiers with single-ended outputs. These highly-efficient devices eliminate components to reduce total solution size and cost in HDTVs and other consumer audio electronics. Innovative features address single-ended design challenges to ensure robust and reliable audio performance in LCD, plasma and DLP(R) TVs and other home audio products. (For more information see http://www.ti.com/tpa3121d2-pr.)

Eliminating components to enable cost-efficient and compact designs

As industrial design and increasingly smaller form factors become standard in the HDTV market, manufacturers face increasing price and size pressures. The TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2 address these challenges. Single-ended architectures reduce bill of material (BOM) costs and save board area by eliminating two LC output filters. To further reduce cost, both devices can run off the existing +24-V backlight rail in a LCD HDTV, eliminating the need for a dedicated power rail. The BOM for an audio solution based on these devices is extremely clean when compared to the competition, with OEMs typically seeing up to 25 percent lower cost. With greater than 90 percent efficient operation, the new amplifiers also eliminate the need for a heat sink. Eliminating costly components reduces overall system cost and allows for a sleeker design.

Providing robust and reliable audio performance

The TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2 reduce the BOM and save board space while providing robust performance. The devices leverage TI's field-proven technology to solve the click and pop challenges typically associated with single-ended solutions. Along with single-ended stereo support, the TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2's outputs can be configured in BTL mode to support 30-W mono applications, such as wireless speakers or subwoofers. In addition, the TPA3124D2 features a fast mute time of 30 us. Depending on the video processor, a faster mute may be necessary to reduce power-loss pop. To ensure reliability, both devices are fully protected with integrated self-protection circuits against faults, including over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature and short circuit.

Extending TI's portfolio of home audio offerings for HDTVs

The TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2 join TI's offering of single-ended audio solutions for HDTVs and consumer audio electronics. In addition, to address the market shift toward I2S inputs, TI offers digital-input, closed-loop Class-D solutions such as the recently-released TAS5706. For customers requiring more sophisticated audio processing, TI also provides a complete line of high-performance processors. For more information, see http://www.ti.com/tas5706 or http://www.ti.com/tas3308.

    Pricing and availability

The TPA3121D2 and TPA3124D2 are available today from TI and its authorized distributors. The table below summarizes the feature set, packaging and suggested resale price of these devices and the entire TPA312xD2 family.

    Stereo Mono Power Fast Mute 1KU Device Power Power Supply Support Package Price TPA3122D2 15W 30W 10-30V No 20-DIP $0.99 TPA3121D2 15W 30W 10-26V No 24-TSSOP $1.45 TPA3124D2 15W 30W 10-26V Yes 24-TSSOP $1.45 TPA3123D2 25W 50W 10-30V No 24-TSSOP $1.75

The TPA3121D2 is pin compatible with the TPA3124D2 and the TPA3123D2. Pin-to-pin compatibility enables manufacturers to leverage a single-board design across multiple product lines. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services like BroadbandAccess and V CAST. Regionally the company has invested nearly $2.2 billion into its New England network, including over $292 million in 2007 alone. As a result of these investments, every Verizon Wireless cell site in New England offers wireless broadband connectivity.

BroadbandAccess offers computer users the nation's most reliable high-speed wireless mobile broadband network, operating at average upload speeds between 500 and 800 kbps, and download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps over Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Revision A network. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones.

Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the first quarter of 2008 as the company added 1.5 million net new customers and, for the fourteenth consecutive quarter, reported the lowest customer turnover (highest customer loyalty) rate in the wireless industry.

The company's 'nation's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "can you hear me now" national advertising campaign. Nationally, these test men and women drive nearly 100 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

CSI Reports Record Results for First Quarter Fiscal 2009

PADUCAH, Ky., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Services, Inc. (CSI) (Pink Sheets: CSVI) today reported record revenues and net income for the first quarter ended May 31, 2008.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080418/CSILOGO )

First quarter revenues rose 4.1% to $35.7 million in fiscal 2009 compared with $34.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2008. Net income rose 5.2% to $4.5 million, and net income per diluted share increased 7.8% to $0.55 compared with the prior year.

"CSI's record results reflected higher sales from CSI Data Services, ATTUS Technologies, McCoy Myers and Heartland Communications," stated President and Chief Executive Officer Steven A. Powless. "We also experienced growth in margins due to improved product mix that benefited net income. The acquisitions completed over the past few years have significantly expanded our client base and have been major contributors to our growth in sales and margins."

    First Quarter Results

First quarter consolidated revenues rose 4.1% to $35.7 million compared with $34.3 million for the first quarter ended May 31, 2007. Processing revenues increased 1.8% to $25.3 million compared with $24.9 million in the first quarter of last year. Other revenues rose 9.9% to $10.4 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 compared with $9.5 million in the same quarter of fiscal 2008.

"Our outlook for fiscal 2009 is for revenue growth to slow in the near future as many banks take a more cautious outlook on IT spending," continued Mr. Powless. "We believe CSI will be insulated somewhat from a softening economy by our long-term data processing contracts that account for the majority of our revenues. In addition, we expect that our expanded suite of products and services acquired over the past few years have diversified our revenue base and will provide CSI with some resiliency in a soft market."

First quarter operating income rose 7.5% to $7.4 million compared with $6.9 million in the first quarter of the prior year. Operating margin improved in the first quarter to 24.0% compared with 23.6% in the first quarter of fiscal 2008. The increase in operating income and margin benefited from higher sales and improved product mix.

Net income rose 5.2% to $4.5 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 compared with $4.2 million in the prior-year period. Net income per fully diluted share increased 7.8% to $0.55 compared with $0.51 in the same quarter last year.

"CSI's cash position rose to $4.1 million at May 31, 2008, up from $2.2 million at February 29, 2008," continued Mr. Powless. "We continue to benefit from strong cash flow from operations. During the first fiscal quarter, we used cash to pay down long-term debt, increase our cash dividend and repurchase CSI stock. We bought 93,485 shares of CSI stock for a total of $3.0 million during the first fiscal quarter. In addition, we purchased $3.2 million in software and equipment, up from $1.1 million in the same quarter of last year."

Zune Arts Unveils Graphic Novel Written by Steve NilesPaperback editions of 'The Lost Ones' available in July at select stores nationwide.

REDMOND, Wash., July 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zune Arts, a creative collective curated by Zune, Microsoft Corp.'s integrated digital entertainment brand, today released "The Lost Ones," a graphic novel written by celebrated writer Steve Niles. For the Zune-commissioned novel, Niles was paired up with visual artists Dr. Revolt, Gary Panter, Kime Buzzelli and Morning Breath to take the reader on an epic journey through time and space. Each artist illustrated a different chapter of the novel, resulting in a blend of artistic styles that is emblematic of the unique creative collaborations for which Zune Arts has become widely known.

    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080702/AQW041) (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)

A preview of the novel is currently available at http://zune-arts.net/lost. Two digital formats of the novel (PDF and RAR) are available free for download today, and visitors can watch the graphic novel trailer and previously released behind-the-scenes podcasts documenting the artists in action. In early July, 42,000 paperback editions of the novel will be available free at select comic book and retail boutiques nationwide. In addition, 1,250 signed limited-edition collector's copies with silk-screened covers packaged with artwork from the novel will be produced for select distribution.

"Working with these four talented artists on this project was a delight," Niles said. "Zune Arts was the gateway that allowed us to show what's possible when artists of different backgrounds and unique styles collaborate to create something larger than the sum of its parts."

"The Lost Ones" chronicles the adventures of four friends -- Duncan, Roxy, Rasheed and Cynthia -- whose seemingly harmless day of extreme planet jumping turns into a mind-blowing, white-knuckle race for their lives to get back home. They find that home is no longer where they left it and the alien race, hell-bent on destroying them, isn't getting any friendlier.

The graphic novel merges five distinct creative points of view to bring the story to life:

    * Dr. Revolt, an original member of the historic New York City graffiti crew the Rolling Thunder Writers * Gary Panter, an illustrator known for his surreal and raw style * Kime Buzzelli, an emerging painter and fashion designer * Morning Breath, a Brooklyn-based art and design duo blending a graffiti style reminiscent of early '80s street art * Steve Niles, celebrated author of "30 Days of Night"

"We are excited to bring together a collective of like-minded individuals who are innovators in the artistic community and come from a diverse set of backgrounds," said Robert Schaltenbrand, brand manager for Zune at Microsoft. "The unique result of this collaboration is a genre-bending concept that transcends traditional graphic novels and delivers something new and exciting to readers and fans."

Continuing its tradition of connecting artists and their fans, Zune Arts will also be hosting several book signings throughout the United States during the summer. Tour dates and featured artists are outlined below.

From a program that started more than a year and a half ago with a simple animated sketch of a man and a bunny, Zune Arts (http://www.zune-arts.net/) has grown to spearhead dozens of collaborations with world-renowned and emerging artists such as M. Ward, Lily Allen, Bitstate, PandaPanther and FriendsWithYou to blur the lines between art, technology, commerce, marketing and entertainment. On two separate occasions, films from the program have been inducted into the permanent film collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which speaks to the talented artists and high-quality work being curated for the program.

In addition, Zune Arts offers weekly podcast feeds through Zune Marketplace, providing customers with access to some of today's most cutting-edge cultural artists expressing themselves through film, music, design, illustration and everything in between. The podcasts are available for free download, and fans can subscribe to automated feeds so the series is synced with their Zune devices.

Book Signing Tour Dates * July 16, Boston, Bodega: Dr. Revolt, Gary Panter * July 17, New York, Midtown Comics: Dr. Revolt, Gary Panter, Kime Buzzelli, Morning Breath, Steve Niles * July 18, Philadelphia, Brave New Worlds: Gary Panter, Steve Niles * July 19, Baltimore, Atomic Books: Dr. Revolt, Gary Panter, Steve Niles * July 20, Washington, D.C., Big Planet Comics: Gary Panter, Steve Niles * July 31, Los Angeles, Meltdown: Kime Buzzelli, Steve Niles * Aug. 2, Chicago, Chicago Comics and Quimby's Bookstore: Dr. Revolt, Gary Panter * Two dates and locations to be determined, San Francisco: Gary Panter About Zune Arts
