Raytheon Completes Captive Carry Test of Joint Standoff Weapon Extended RangeProves ability to perform on newly awarded US Navy JSOW-ER demonstration contract
TUCSON, Ariz., July 16, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company has completed captive carry testing of the Joint Standoff Weapon Extended Range. The test proved Raytheon will be able to deliver on a recently awarded $4.1 million U.S. Navy contract to conduct a free-flight demonstration of the JSOW-ER in 2009.

JSOW-ER will provide the warfighter a weapon with a range of 300 nautical miles (345 statute miles) for approximately $350,000 in 2007 dollars.
During the Raytheon-funded test, a JSOW-ER was loaded onto an A-4 Skyhawk fighter aircraft, and the weapon's engine was ignited at 25,000 feet. The aircraft then flew the same mission profiles the missile might experience during a combat mission. The test subjected the weapon to many of the same stressors -- wind, vibration and extreme temperatures -- the JSOW-ER would face during an operational mission.
"This test proved our flush-inlet design provides the JSOW-ER's engine with enough air to ignite and operate under extreme conditions," said Harry Schulte, vice president of Raytheon Missile Systems' Air Warfare Systems' product line. "With this test under our belt, I am confident we will be able to meet our contractual obligations to the Navy and conduct a free flight demonstration in spring 2009."
The captive carry test came on the heels of a series of Raytheon-funded functional ground tests of the JSOW-ER engine in April. The tests verified that newly developed software could adequately control the flow of fuel to the engine's weapon. The test also ensured the fuel system was properly integrated into the weapon.
The JSOW-ER is a powered variant of the combat-proven glide JSOW. It takes the proven GPS/Inertial Navigation System reliability of earlier JSOW models and combines it with the network-enabled, maritime-interdiction capabilities currently under development for the JSOW C-1. By adding a 150-pound thrust class engine without violating JSOW's outer mold lines or mass properties, the JSOW-ER gains a range of approximately 300 nautical miles. Boeing, Malaysia Airlines Announce Order for 35 Next-Generation 737s
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing and Kuala Lumpur-based Malaysia Airlines today announced the airline has ordered 35 Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes. The order is valued at more than $2.6 billion at current list prices. The airline also has acquired purchase rights for an additional 20 Next-Generation 737-800s.
Today's announcement was made at the Farnborough International Airshow by Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Scott Carson; Malaysia Airlines Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer Tengku Azmil Zahruddin; and Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President, Sales, South and Southeast Asia Dinesh Keskar.
The order, which brought the total number of Boeing 737s ordered past the 8,000th mark, was recently posted on the Boeing Commercial Airplanes Orders and Deliveries Web site attributed to an unidentified customer.
"Today we celebrate Malaysia Airlines as the newest member of the Next-Generation 737 family of operators, and we welcome this occasion to strengthen our long-term relationship with a valued partner," Carson said. "The selection of the Next-Generation 737 to support the airline's strategic fleet modernization plan reinforces the superior economics of the most fuel efficient single-aisle airplane operating in today's market."
The 737s will be fitted with Blended Winglets, which improve fuel efficiency by up to four percent, increase range, and reduce CO2 emissions and takeoff noise.
"This new fleet of Next-Generation 737-800s will replace our existing 737-400 fleet, allowing Malaysia Airlines to expand to points which were not previously economically viable and will create a strong platform for the airline to profitably grow," said Azmil. The digitally designed Next-Generation 737 is the most technologically advanced airplane family in the single-aisle market. The 737-800, which can seat from 162 to 189 passengers, is 680 kilograms (1,500 pounds) lighter, can fly 481 kilometers (260 nautical miles) farther and 335 meters (1,100 feet) higher while carrying 12 more passengers than the competing model.
As of June 30, 2008, the 737 has logged more orders than any other commercial jet model in history with more than 8,000 orders. Boeing has more than 2,200 unfilled orders for the Next-Generation 737 with a value of more than $160 billion at current list prices. Boeing currently produces Next-Generation 737-600s, -700s, -800s and -900ER (Extended Range) airplanes.

Six factors are used to determine overall satisfaction: performance and reliability; sales representatives/account executives; billing; cost of service; offerings and promotions; and customer service.
With a score of 635 on a 1,000-point scale, Verizon leads the small/midsize business customer segment, performing particularly well in all six factors. AT&T follows Verizon in the segment rankings with 617.
AT&T ranks highest in the large enterprise segment with 678, performing well in all six factors. Verizon follows in the segment rankings with 658.
Among customers who "definitely will" or "probably will" switch providers in the next 12 months, the study finds that just 5 percent of small/midsize business customers say they are "pleased" with their local telephone voice service, compared with 21 percent in the 2007 study. In the large enterprise segment, 12 percent of customers indicate that they are "pleased," down from 21 percent in 2007. In addition, the proportions of "indifferent" and "disappointed" customers have increased in both segments in 2008.
"The decline in the percentage of 'pleased' customers in both the small/midsized and large enterprise segments is not unexpected, given the lower satisfaction levels experienced in areas such as cost of service and offerings and promotions," said Frank Perazzini, director of telecommunications at J.D. Power and Associates. "Customers continue to want more services and features for less money in these tough economic times and believe that their service providers have not necessarily met their needs and expectations."
The study also finds that among small/midsize business customers who contacted their provider via telephone with an issue or problem, 73 percent said their issue was resolved in a timely manner, compared with 79 percent in 2007. Large enterprise customers who said their issue was resolved in a timely manner increased to 82 percent from 79 percent in the 2007 study.
"As pricing among all providers converges, it becomes difficult for providers to differentiate themselves from the competition," said Perazzini. "Providing superior customer service, specifically the timely resolution of issues, is essential to the retention of existing customers."
The 2008 Major Provider Business Telecommunications Voice Services Study is based on responses from 1,794 business customers with telecom services at small, midsize and large U.S. businesses and includes evaluations of their data and voice service providers. The study was fielded in April 2008.

This interest was held by EADS Sogerma -- a business unit of EADS -- since it entered into a joint venture agreement with Hamilton Sundstrand in 2004.
REVIMA APU is now a wholly-owned Hamilton Sundstrand overhaul and repair facility, which will service aircraft Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) systems and accessories for customers worldwide. REVIMA APU is located in Caudebec-en- Caux, near Rouen, France. It employs 230 people and offers more than 35 years of turbine engine repair experience.

Trina Solar Announces Concurrent Offerings of $120 Million of Senior Convertible Notes and Borrowed American Depositary Shares
CHANGZHOU, China, July 16 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trina Solar Limited ("Trina Solar" or the "Company"), a leading integrated manufacturer of photovoltaic products from the production of ingots, wafers and cells to the assembly of PV modules, founded in 1997, today announced it intends to offer, subject to market and other conditions, $120 million aggregate principal amount of senior convertible notes due 2013 and American depositary shares ("ADSs"), which are being borrowed by the joint bookrunners of the notes offering or their affiliates ("ADS Borrowers") pursuant to ADS lending agreements with Trina Solar. Trina Solar intends to grant to the underwriters of the notes offering an option to purchase up to an additional $18 million aggregate principal amount of notes to cover over-allotments.
The notes will pay interest semi-annually and mature in July 2013. The notes will be convertible into ADS at a rate that is subject to adjustment under certain circumstances.
Holders of the notes may require Trina Solar to repurchase all or a portion of the notes in 2011. Holders of the notes may also require Trina Solar to repurchase all or a portion of the notes upon certain fundamental changes.
Trina Solar intends to use the net proceeds of the notes offering for the expansion of manufacturing lines for the production of silicon ingots, wafers, solar cells and solar modules, the purchase of raw materials, research and development and other general corporate purposes.
In connection with the notes offering, Trina Solar will enter into ADS lending agreements with the ADS Borrowers, pursuant to which Trina Solar will lend ADSs to the ADS Borrowers. Concurrently with the notes offering, the ADS Borrowers will sell the borrowed ADSs pursuant to a separate prospectus supplement. The sale of the borrowed ADSs is intended to facilitate privately negotiated transactions or short sales by which investors in the notes will hedge their investment in the notes. Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems Names Del Checcolo Vice President, Engineering
TEWKSBURY, Mass., July 16, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company's Integrated Defense Systems has named Michael Del Checcolo vice president, Engineering, reporting to IDS President Dan Smith. He is also the IDS business representative on the Raytheon Company Engineering Leadership team, reporting to Mark Russell, Raytheon Company vice president of Engineering, Technology and Mission Assurance.

Del Checcolo's responsibilities include leading all engineering activities within IDS, including the development and management of technology, execution of advanced programs, coordination of strategic architecture initiatives, and continuous improvement of processes and tools.

Del Checcolo's most recent assignment was vice president of the IDS Engineering Advanced Technology Directorate. He holds a master's in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a bachelor's from Northeastern University where he began his career with Raytheon in 1989 as a "Co-op" student. He has authored numerous papers and holds more than 20 patents.

X2 TECHNOLOGY(TM) Demonstrator Approaches First Flight

The X2 TECHNOLOGY Demonstrator has accomplished more than 14 hours of ground run testing and is progressing toward first flight.
"The Demonstrator has completed Phase 2 of ground run testing with blades on, and is in final build-up for first flight," Kagdis said. "Customer feedback since tells us that X2 TECHNOLOGY has the potential to be applied to a broad range of missions. We are excited at the prospects of transforming vertical flight through this innovative technology."
Sikorsky's Schweizer Aircraft Corp. rapid-prototyping facility in Horseheads, N.Y., is preparing the X2 TECHNOLOGY Demonstrator for its first flight.
The X2 TECHNOLOGY Demonstrator combines an integrated suite of technologies intended to advance the state-of-the-art, counter-rotating coaxial rotor helicopter. It is designed to demonstrate a helicopter can cruise comfortably at 250 knots, while retaining such desirable helicopter attributes as excellent low speed handling, efficient hovering and autorotation safety, and a seamless and simple transition to high speed.
Among the innovative technologies the X2 TECHNOLOGY Demonstrator employs are:

-- Counter-rotating rigid rotor blades
-- Hub drag reduction
-- Active vibration control
-- Integrated auxiliary propulsion system

DALLAS, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today introduced the industry's highest integrated 2.4-GHz radio frequency (RF) front end for low-power and low-voltage wireless applications. The CC2591 increases the range (link budget) in wireless systems by integrating a power amplifier for increased output power of +22 dBm and a low-noise amplifier for improved receiver sensitivity of +6 dB. The CC2591 is a high-performance and cost-effective front end for all 2.4-GHz wireless systems, such as ZigBee(R) networks, sensors and industrial, consumer and audio equipment. The device provides a seamless interface to all of TI's existing and future 2.4-GHz RF transceivers, transmitters and system-on-chip products for faster development time and improved RF performance.
