Verizon Wireless Expands High-Speed Wireless Broadband Network in Pennsylvania to Portions of Mifflin CountyHigh-Speed Network Gives Verizon Wireless Customers Access to Fast Wireless Internet, E-mail, Full-track Songs, Videos and More
LEWISTOWN, Pa., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless has expanded the national rollout of its high-speed wireless network to portions of Mifflin County including the towns of Lewistown, Burnham, McVeytown, Milroy and Reedsville. Additional coverage includes portions of U.S. Routes 322 and 522.
"Our high-speed wireless network gives our customers three key advantages in wireless communication -- speed, mobility and security," said Roger Tang, president -- Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia region, Verizon Wireless. "With these advantages, business customers and mobile professionals can increase productivity and see bottom-line business benefits. In addition, our V CAST services, such as V CAST Music with Rhapsody, help keep customers entertained while on-the-go -- on the same devices they carry with them every day."
BroadbandAccess
The network expansion in Mifflin County offers Verizon Wireless' business customers a truly mobile office experience with BroadbandAccess, giving them access to their calendars, the Internet, e-mail and critical business information residing behind their companies' firewalls. BroadbandAccess was developed with a range of users in mind, and it enables large enterprises, small- to medium-sized businesses and mobile professionals to conduct business anytime, anywhere in the BroadbandAccess coverage area via a secure, true high-speed data connection.
Customers in wireless broadband coverage areas can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. That means they can download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment -- the equivalent of a small PowerPoint(R) presentation or a large PDF file -- in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds. To help customers stay connected, BroadbandAccess seamlessly switches to the company's NationalAccess service if they travel outside the BroadbandAccess coverage area.
V CAST Music with Rhapsody
The company's wireless broadband network powers its V CAST Music with Rhapsody service, which combines Verizon Wireless' world-class, over-the-air mobile music service with Rhapsody's leading desktop solution. V CAST Music with Rhapsody delivers unlimited monthly access to music on up to three Rhapsody-compatible mobile phones and players, and online on multiple PCs and Web browsers. With V CAST Music with Rhapsody, customers who purchase music over-the-air can download the master copy of the songs or albums to their PCs free of digital rights management (DRM) software that restricts how and where music can be played.
V CAST
The company's V CAST service gives customers the ability to play cutting-edge 3D games and stream video clips straight to their handsets. V CAST offers content updated daily so customers can watch dozens of on-demand videos, including breaking news, weather updates, sports highlights and the hottest entertainment clips.
Network Technology and Investment
Verizon Wireless' broadband network is based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology and provides customers in the area with speeds significantly faster than the company's NationalAccess service.
The multi-million dollar expansion includes the installation of high-tech wireless hardware and software in wireless transmission sites throughout the region. It is part of an ongoing network investment by Verizon Wireless, which has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed -- $5.5 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. Last year, the company invested more than $235 million in its Pennsylvania network improvements.

Next Inning Technology Previews Earnings for SanDisk, PMC-Sierra, Skyworks Solutions, and Anadigics
PRINCETON, N.J., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Next Inning Technology Research (http://www.nextinning.com/), a subscription service focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has updated outlooks for SanDisk , PMC-Sierra , Skyworks Solutions and Anadigics .
In a series of reports released in March, Editor Paul McWilliams advised readers it was time to buy specific tech stocks. His selections went up considerably with one very near doubling. However, in May and early June, he warned readers it was time to take some profits and prepare for the summer swoon he saw coming. Now that tech stocks have taken a significant hit, is it time to start buying again? Click to read his updated thoughts and enjoy a 21-day free trial of Next Inning:

In his earnings previews, McWilliams wrote: "The fact is there was no good reason earlier this year for the price of Skyworks to fall so significantly in sympathy with Anadigics, which was suffering from company-specific problems..."
McWilliams also looks at these topics:
-- What does McWilliams think Wall Street is missing in the SanDisk story?
-- We all know that Skyworks has a design in the iPhone. What other hot new phone design has McWilliams learned we'll hear about Skyworks winning?
-- Last week, McWilliams debunked rumors that Broadcom was about to take PMC-Sierra out in the GPON space. This week he picked up some valuable news about PMC-Sierra's largest GPON customer. What was the news and how might it affect PMC-Sierra's Q3 guidance?
-- McWilliams encouraged readers to buy Anadigics when it dipped into the $7s on Monday. What's McWilliams' fair value target for Anadigics?
Founded in September 2002, Next Inning's model portfolio has returned 226% since its inception versus 76% for the Nasdaq.

Dutchess County Residents to Benefit From Verizon Wireless Network ExpansionInvesting to Stay Ahead of Growing Demand for Wireless Calling, Data Access, and Music
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Dutchess County, Verizon Wireless has expanded its network with a new cell site in Poughkeepsie. The new site improves coverage and capacity along New York State Route 44 from Pleasant View Road to Cherry Hill Road, and on Route 115 from Fanelli Drive to Pehl Road.
This network expansion is part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services. The company has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed - on average, $5.5 billion every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services.
Services include wireless data services such as picture messaging, text messaging, V CAST and V CAST Music, ESPN MVP and BroadbandAccess, the company's high-speed wireless broadband network geared toward mobile professionals and business customers. It provides average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second (mbps), and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps.
Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the first quarter of 2008 as the company added 1.5 million new customers. Verizon Wireless, the wireless company with the highest customer loyalty, reported the lowest customer turnover (highest customer loyalty) rate in the industry -- 1.2% in the first quarter -- for the 14th consecutive quarter.
The company's 'nation's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "Can you hear me now" national advertising campaign. These engineers drive nearly 100 specially equipped vehicles over 240,000 miles on average each quarter on Interstate, US and state highways, as well as major roads and surface streets. Test vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 750,000 voice call attempts and more than four million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
Last year, Verizon Wireless introduced its 30-day Test Drive, an industry first that lets customers experience its network virtually risk-free for 30 days. If customers are not satisfied with their experience and take their number to another carrier, Verizon Wireless will refund their money for calls, equipment, activation fee and taxes. Five Million Phones Collected by Verizon Wireless' HopeLine ProgramPhones Turned Into Support for Domestic Violence Agencies and Survivors
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Every no-longer-used wireless phone that consumers donate to Verizon Wireless' HopeLine(R) national phone recycling and reuse program helps a victim of domestic violence. Verizon Wireless collected its first used wireless phone through HopeLine in 2001, and the company said today it has now passed the 5 million phones collected mark.
"The 5 million phones we have collected add up to millions of minutes of freedom for domestic violence victims," said Lowell McAdam, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless. "We know there are many options for disposing of wireless phones, and we appreciate those customers who have chosen to support victims of domestic violence through HopeLine. These phones really do make a difference."
One Million Phones Collected In Nine Months
Last October, Verizon Wireless announced it had collected 4 million phones through HopeLine. Now, in just nine months, HopeLine has collected an additional 1 million phones to pass the 5 million phone plateau. Five million is the number of people who live in the state of Minnesota or one phone for every person in Metro Atlanta. It also represents the distance in miles between Los Angeles and New York -- multiplied 922 times.
180 Million Minutes of Service Donated
The 5 million phones collected by HopeLine were either refurbished for reuse with the proceeds benefitting domestic violence victims or were recycled in an environmentally sound way. HopeLine has provided wireless phones with the equivalent of 180 million minutes of service and cash grants totaling more than $5 million to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention and awareness.
About HopeLine
HopeLine puts the nation's most reliable wireless network to work in communities by turning unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence. Wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider can be donated to HopeLine at any Verizon Wireless Communication Store across the country.

Raytheon Miniature Air Launched Decoy Set to Enter Low Rate Initial ProductionMALD(TM) will help protect aviators during combat operations
TUCSON, Ariz., July 17, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. and allied aviators will soon have additional protection when flying in harm's way.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080717/NETH019 )
Thanks to a June 18 decision by the U.S. Air Force, Raytheon Company will begin low rate initial production of the Miniature Air Launched Decoy.
"The LRIP decision means warfighters will soon have another tool to shape the battlespace," said Ken Watson, director of the U.S. Air Force's 692nd Armament Systems Squadron. "MALD protects aircrew and their aircraft by duplicating the combat flight profiles and signatures of U.S. and allied aircraft. This enhances the warfighter's ability to accomplish the mission and return home safely."
Raytheon anticipates a contract to begin full rate production later this year. The company will produce 150 decoys in the first production lot. This will meet a required asset availability date of fourth quarter 2009.
"Thanks to the teamwork with our Air Force partners and our suppliers, we rapidly moved from the first test flight to an LRIP decision," said Harry Schulte, Raytheon Missile Systems vice president of Air Warfare Systems.
In addition to protecting valuable aircraft, MALD offers counter air operations to neutralize air defense systems that pose a threat to U.S. and allied pilots. The low cost, air-launched programmable craft weighs less than 300 pounds and has a range of approximately 500 nautical miles (about 575 statute miles).
Raytheon Company, with 2007 sales of $21.3 billion, is a technology leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. With a history of innovation spanning 86 years, Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services. "Our bandwidth costs are very high as we need to support a large number of concurrent downloads, and this will inevitably increase during the Olympics," says Mr. Shan Xiaolei, Director, Technology Management Commission, CCTV.com. "On2 has helped us quickly address this problem by contributing the Flix Engines we need to publish our sports coverage in TrueMotion(R)-based Flash video."
By using On2 technology, CCTV.com is able to reduce the bandwidth needed to deliver high quality web video by as much as 40%. Following this initial collaboration, CCTV intends to expand the use of On2's solutions to deliver video across multiple screens.
"We are pleased to provide CCTV.com with the technologies they need to deliver a high quality VOD service in time for the Olympics," says Eero Kaikkonen, Chief Marketing Officer, On2 Technologies. "We see this as the beginning of a long term partnership that will see our two companies working together to lay the foundation of web TV in China."
Flix Engine is a leading server side platform for encoding and publishing Flash video. The On2 VP6 video compression scheme is used by many of the leading UGC sites, CDNs and content owners including Facebook, Daum, Eurosport, Akamai and Brightcove to encode all genres of video targeted for web delivery in Flash format. Coupling high quality with low datarates and supporting cue points and alpha channel in Adobe Flash, VP6 is proprietary to On2 Technologies, and as such does not bear content royalties like those levied by MPEG-LA. COLT and COW Will Enhance Network for RAGBRAI Riders at Four Stops in IowaVerizon Wireless' Portable Cell Sites Will Boost Network Capacity in Missouri Valley, Jefferson, Ames and North Liberty
DES MOINES, Iowa, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless company with the most reliable voice and data network, will boost network capacity with portable cell sites at four cities along this year's route for the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI(R)) July 20-26.
The company announced it will activate a Cell on Light Truck (COLT) for tour stops in Missouri Valley on July 19, Ames on July 22 and North Liberty on July 24; and bring a Cell on Wheels (COW) to Jefferson on July 21. These temporary cell sites are equivalent to the highest capacity stationary site presently in Iowa and are able to process thousands of calls every hour.
"As the official wireless provider for RAGBRAI, we are committed to serving our customers as well as the ride organizers along this year's route," said Nancy B. Clark, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless. "Based on our research, we anticipate each of these Iowa communities will experience double the usage during the ride's tour stop than would occur during an average summer day," Clark said.
Heading into its 36th year, RAGBRAI is the longest, largest and oldest touring bicycle ride in the world. RAGBRAI's 10,000 riders will attract an estimated 10,000 viewers at most stops along the route.
Verizon Wireless' fleet of COLTS and COWS provides service at special events, such as RAGBRAI, that demand additional network capacity. They also are designed for use when natural disasters or other unplanned events interrupt wireless voice and data service. The company recently deployed a COLT at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids for flood recovery efforts and also has used these temporary cell sites to increase capacity at the Iowa State Fair and in Iowa City for the Iowa-Iowa State football game.
Verizon Wireless continues to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Iowa and across the country. The company has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed-more than $5.5 billion on average every year-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. More than $202.5 million of this investment was spent in Iowa over the past seven years on network improvements.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today's top video games use complex programming and rendering techniques that can take months to create and tune in order to get the image quality and silky-smooth frame rates that gamers demand. Thousands of developers worldwide including members of Blizzard Entertainment, Crytek, Epic Games, and Rockstar Games rely on NVIDIA development tools to create console and PC video games. Today, NVIDIA has expanded its award-winning development suite with three new tools that vastly speed up this development process, keeping projects on track and costs under control.

The new tools which are available now include:
-- PerfHUD(TM) 6 -- a graphics debugging and performance analysis tool for DirectX 9 and 10 applications.
-- FX Composer(TM) 2.5 -- an integrated development environment for fast creation of real-time visual effects.
-- Shader Debugger -- helps debug and optimize shaders written with HLSL, CgFX, and COLLADA FX Cg in DirectX and OpenGL.
"These new tools reinforce our deep and longstanding commitment to help game developers fulfill their vision," said Tony Tamasi, vice president of technical marketing for NVIDIA. "Creating a state-of-the-art video game is an incredibly challenging task technologically, which is why we invest heavily in creating powerful, easy-to-use video game optimization and debugging tools for creating console and PC games."
More Details on the New Tools
PerfHUD 6 is a new and improved version of NVIDIA's graphics debugging and performance analysis tool for DirectX 9 and 10 applications. PerfHUD (http://www.perfhud.com/) is widely used by the world's leading game developers to debug and optimize their games. This new version includes comprehensive support for optimizing games for multiple GPUs using NVIDIA SLI(R) technology, powerful new texture visualization and override capabilities, an API call list, dependency views, and much more. In a recent survey, more than 300 PerfHUD 5 users reported an average speedup of 37% after using PerfHUD to tune their applications.
"Spore relies on a host of graphical systems that support a complex and evolving universe. NVIDIA PerfHUD provides a unique and essential tool for in- game performance analysis," said Alec Miller, Graphics Engineer at Maxis. "The ability to overlay live GPU timings and state helps us rapidly diagnose, fix, and then verify optimizations. As a result, we can simulate rich worlds alongside interactive gameplay. I highly recommend PerfHUD because it is so simple to integrate and to use."
FX Composer 2.5 is an integrated development environment for fast creation of real-time visual effects. FX Composer 2.5 (http://www.fxcomposer.com/) can be used to create shaders for HLSL, CgFX, and COLLADA FX Cg in DirectX and OpenGL. This new release features an improved user interface, DirectX 10 Support, ShaderPerf with GeForce(R) 8 and 9 Series support, visual models and styles, and particle systems.
As longer, more complex shaders become pervasive, debugging shaders has become more of a challenge for developers. To assist developers with this task, NVIDIA introduces the brand-new NVIDIA Shader Debugger(TM), a plug-in for FX Composer 2.5 that enables developers to inspect their code while seeing shader variables applied in real time on their geometry. The Shader Debugger (http://www.shaderdebugger.com/) can be used to debug HLSL, CgFX, and COLLADA FX Cg shaders in both DirectX and OpenGL.
The NVIDIA Shader Debugger is the first product in the NVIDIA Professional Developer Tools lineup. These are new tools directed at professional developers who need more industrial-strength capabilities and support. For example, the NVIDIA Shader Debugger will run on leading GPUs from all vendors. In addition to the free versions available for non-commercial use, some of the new tools are subject to a license fee, but are priced to be accessible to developers. Existing free tools (such as FX Composer, PerfHUD, Texture Tools, and SDKs) will not be affected -- they will continue to be available to all developers at no cost. Shader Debugger pricing information is available at http://www.shaderdebugger.com/.
NVIDIA encourages developers to visit its developer web site (http://developer.nvidia.com/) and its developer tools forums (http://developer.nvidia.com/forums).
