Next Inning Technology Previews Earnings for Alvarion, Silicon Laboratories, United Microelectronics, and Applied Micro Circuits

PRINCETON, N.J., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Next Inning Technology Research (http://www.nextinning.com/), a subscription service focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has updated outlooks for Alvarion , Silicon Laboratories , United Microelectronics and Applied Micro Circuits .

In a series of reports released in March, Editor Paul McWilliams advised readers it was time to buy specific tech stocks. His selections went up considerably with one very near doubling. However, in May and early June, he warned readers it was time to take some profits and prepare for the summer swoon he saw coming. Now that tech stocks have taken a significant hit, is it time to start buying again? Click to read his updated thoughts and enjoy a 21-day free trial of Next Inning:

    https://www.nextinning.com/subscribe/index.php?refer=prn697

In his earnings preview, McWilliams wrote: "In an interesting twist, Nortel, which also reports earnings this week, shelved its internal WiMax effort to spend more time on the LTE standard and inked a deal with Alvarion to cover its WiMax needs. This created some speculation that Nortel would buy Alvarion, but so far nothing but rumors have materialized..."

McWilliams also looks at these topics:

-- Is Alvarion well-placed to overcome competition in key WiMax markets? Is the company a likely acquisition candidate?

-- Is McWilliams expecting a good earnings report from Applied Micro Circuits? At what price would McWilliams consider hedging or trimming long positions in the stock?

-- Would McWilliams add Silicon Labs at current prices? What is his price target for the stock?

-- Is UMC poised to benefit from trends that McWilliams expects will favor the semiconductor fabrication sector?

Founded in September 2002, Next Inning's model portfolio has returned 230% since its inception versus 76% for the Nasdaq.

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SprayCool(R), a recognized leader in the development of advanced thermal management solutions for the military, aerospace and industrial computing customers, announced today that it has signed a global agreement with GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions. Under the agreement, GE Fanuc will source the SprayCool MPE enclosure to provide fully integrated subsystems that include GE Fanuc's commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded computing solutions for military applications. (See accompanying release issued today by GE Fanuc)

The agreement solidifies SprayCool's strategic direction to align itself with industry leading turnkey solution providers to further the adoption of its unique direct-spray technology and the environmental isolation properties embodied in their recently introduced MPE product. "We are very excited to enter into this global partnership with GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms," said Matt Gerber, CEO and President of SprayCool. "Their industry leadership in embedded computing hardware and software solutions, combined with SprayCool enclosures will facilitate the customers' sourcing of full turnkey solutions, and provide them the flexibility to choose from a wide range of electronics card options," he added.

The SprayCool enclosures provide GE Fanuc with distinct advantages, including the deployment of high performance computing electronics in harsh environments, as well as enabling GE Fanuc to offer their customers a mix of boards with various ruggedization levels within the same platform, saving both space and weight.

"We are well known for our ability to provide demanding customers with powerful, highly reliable embedded computing subsystems capable of operating in the harshest environments," said Peter Cavill, General Manager, Military & Aerospace Business, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, "and this agreement with SprayCool extends our capabilities even further, allowing us to propose very high performance solutions that would previously not have been possible."

    SprayCool Technology

SprayCool patented two-phase liquid cooling technology (see video) uses a fine mist of non-corrosive, non-conductive liquid, sprayed in a thin layer, which evaporates and cools electronics. In doing so, SprayCool products isolate the electronics from dirty, corrosive environments found in military and industrial applications resulting in cooler, higher performance, and more durable electronic devices. The technology provides an efficiently controlled and isolated environment for a broad mix of electronics in a package that is significantly smaller, lighter, and more power and cost efficient, and faster to deploy by the integrator.

Etelcharge, a Leading Web-To-Auto Payment Company, Retains TransMedia Group to Publicize Private New Way to Buy OnlineMedia Campaign to Target Some 70 Million Consumers Without Credit Cards

BOCA RATON, Fla., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Etelcharge.com (BULLETIN BOARD: ETLC) , the leader in proprietary payment technologies that is opening a vast new market for online merchants, has retained TransMedia Group for public relations. (http://www.transmediagroup.com/)

For shoppers without credit cards or banking relationships or who wish to keep personal information off the Internet, the company provides a way to charge home phone accounts for purchases made online through http://www.etelcharge.com/.

TransMedia Group will kick off a national media campaign centered on a definitive agreement the company has signed to acquire Payment One, which has billed over $2.5 billion in client transactions through telco billing, said Glen Calder, TransMedia's President.

"Our publicity will explain that with the acquisition, Etelcharge.com gets a mature company whose estimated annual revenue of $13 million will establish a significant revenue base for Etelcharge," added Calder. TransMedia's PR campaign will describe how the acquisition also will give Etelcharge nationwide telco coverage, a set of blue-ribbon merchant-customers, and access to 50 million subscribers who have already used bill-through-phone-bill services.

Etelcharge currently allows online merchants to make its payment option available through its telecom provider, AT&T Billing & Collections. Ironically AT&T was TransMedia's first client when former NBC VP Tom Madden established the PR firm in New York City in 1981. "This is an extra kick for us to be once again connected with AT&T, which we helped with PR through the grueling divestiture days when Ma Bell was split apart," said TransMedia's Founder and Chairman Tom Madden. TransMedia subsequently relocated its main offices to Florida and serves clients worldwide.

"We are confident that we have the right PR firm to represent a company emerging as rapidly as Etelcharge, which will soon dominate an emerging market comprising an estimated 25 million households in America who want to shop online, but lack the traditional means to do so until our proprietary payment technology made it possible," said Rob Howe, Chairman and CEO of Etelcharge.

Compuware Abend-AID 11 Helps IT Organizations Bridge a Workforce GapNew Web Interface Enables Next Generation Mainframe Developers

DETROIT, July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Compuware Corporation today announced the release of Abend-AID 11. This latest version features an innovative web interface that helps leading IT organizations enable new mainframe talent to support vital systems.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080605/CLTH112LOGO )

As workers with decades of experience continue to retire from the mainframe field, IT leaders must find new personnel to maintain and enhance critical mainframe technologies. "Even those applications that satisfy current business demands are often seen as difficult and expensive to operate and not agile enough," said Dale Vecchio, Gartner. "One of the greatest growing risks for these systems is not the applications themselves, but rather the skills necessary to continue to develop, maintain and operate them."(1)

Compuware Abend-AID 11 helps ease this transition through its new web-based interface, providing point and click usability for employees accustomed to a web-based world. Supplementing the traditional mainframe "green screen" interface to these systems with agile, modern technology, Abend-AID 11 helps IT organizations more quickly familiarize new personnel with their systems.

"This modernization demonstrates Compuware's ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers," said Rose Rowe, Vice President Mainframe Solutions, Compuware. "By bringing new functionality into the marketplace, Compuware meets the pressing problems of IT and business leaders who depend upon the stability and security of the mainframe for their most critical business applications."

Understanding that more than 80 percent of the world's corporate and government data is stored on mainframes(2) helps Compuware stay focused on advancing mainframe technology to consistently provide solutions for customers.

"Hands-down, our mainframe solutions are the best in the world," said Bob Paul, Compuware President and Chief Operating Officer. "We continue to invest in the mainframe platform to bring our customers functionality they cannot find elsewhere. New solutions like this demonstrate our continuing dedication to advancing the business value of the mainframe platform."

In addition to the new web interface, Abend-AID 11 also improved root-cause analysis for COBOL programs and enhanced DB2 support. These enhancements allow users to diagnose issues with greater speed and further enhance system productivity.

Shire Re-Launches ADHDSupport.com, a Virtual Road Map Providing Information, Tools and Practical Tips About Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)Newly enhanced Web site designed as an easy-to-navigate tool for consumersWeb site developed with recommendations and feedback from an expert in the field of ADHD

PHILADELPHIA, July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Shire Limited , the global specialty biopharmaceutical company, announced today the re-launch of its educational Web site, ADHDSupport.com, designed to provide families, caregivers, educators and patients with tools and resources about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The newly enhanced ADHDSupport.com provides visitors with some information about the evaluation process and management of the disorder, as well as tools and practical tips to help patients with ADHD manage their daily activities.

"ADHD is a common psychiatric disorder that can impact the lives of many people, including patients, caregivers, friends and co-workers. It has certainly impacted my own life both personally and professionally," said Michele Novotni, Ph.D., internationally recognized ADHD expert, former president and CEO of the national Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), psychologist and consultant in the development of ADHDSupport.com. "Because I have seen the pain of unrealized dreams and untapped potential first-hand among those with ADHD, I am passionate about providing information about ADHD in easily accessible formats. In fact, there are many people who do not realize that they or their children may have ADHD and many are unaware of the resources available to help individuals with ADHD find out more about the disorder. After reviewing ADHDSupport.com from a clinical and personal perspective, I can confirm that the Web site is a helpful tool for support and information about ADHD."

The re-designed ADHDSupport.com provides visitors, especially those who may be new to ADHD, with an easy-to-navigate road map to help learn about ADHD and finding daily successes while living with the disorder. The site offers information about the recognition, diagnosis and management of the disorder, assistance with how to identify and select a healthcare professional and what to expect when meeting with a physician about ADHD. The Web site will also feature a symptom tracker to help record ADHD symptoms to be used in follow-up discussions with the healthcare professional, practical tips on how to get organized, and stay organized, and the best ways to set and evaluate goals. Additionally, a teacher discussion guide and homework planner, as well as an email reminder program -- which allows users to set up various reminders for themselves or for their children, including for medical appointments, prescriptions, and social activities -- will be available later this summer in time for the back-to-school season.

ADHDSupport.com also provides detailed information about events that may be helpful to people living with ADHD, such as the 13-city mobile screening event from Shire, known as the "RoADHD Trip," which is designed to help adults who think they may have ADHD take the first step toward recognizing the symptoms of the disorder by answering the 6-question World Health Organization adult ADHD screener. Additionally, the Web site highlights conferences this year, such as the 13th annual Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA) national conference and the 20th annual Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) international conference.

"ADHDSupport.com is a useful Web site that contains all sorts of helpful information about ADHD," said ADHD patient, Heather Jenkins. "If you have ADHD like me, or think you know someone who might, ADHDSupport.com is an excellent place to go for a helpful road map on both information about ADHD and the steps you can take to help yourself or others find out more about ADHD."

    About ADHD

ADHD is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. Approximately 7.8 percent of all school-aged children, or about 4.4 million U.S. children aged 4 to 17 years, have been diagnosed with ADHD at some point in their lives, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The disorder is also estimated to affect 4.4 percent of U.S. adults aged 18-44 based on results from the National Comorbidity Survey Replication, a nationally representative household survey, which used a lay-administered diagnostic interview to assess a wide range of DSM-IV disorders. When this percentage is extrapolated to the full U.S. population, approximately 9.8 million adults are believed to have ADHD. ADHD is a neurobiological disorder that manifests as a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that is more frequent and severe than is typically observed in individuals at a comparable level of development. To be properly diagnosed with ADHD, a child needs to demonstrate at least six of nine symptoms of inattention; and/or at least six of nine symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity; the onset of which appears before age 7 years; that some impairment from the symptoms is present in two or more settings (e.g., at school and home); that the symptoms continue for at least six months; and that there is clinically significant impairment in social, academic or occupational functioning and the symptoms cannot be better explained by another psychiatric disorder.

Although there is no "cure" for ADHD, there are accepted treatments that specifically target its symptoms. The most common standard treatments include educational approaches, psychological or behavioral modification, and medication.

Siemens PLM Software Ships Version 6 of NXNew Release Provides the Power of Synchronous Technology and New Advanced Simulation Functionality

PLANO, Texas, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens PLM Software, a division of Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Version 6 of NX(TM) software is now available to Siemens customers worldwide.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070904/SIEMENSLOGO )

"NX 6 promises to do two things. First, the work done to integrate Siemens PLM Software's synchronous technology should bring on-stream an incredibly powerful way of working that's unlike anything on the market today," said Al Dean, editor, DEVELOP3D Magazine. "When you consider background in knowledge-based design, automation, and complete process coverage, the addition of synchronous technology to NX software should make it an even more compelling solution. The second promising area in NX 6 is the addition of new levels of intelligence to the simulation environment and that's something on every users mind at the moment -- how to use simulation more effectively and more efficiently."

For design, NX 6 features Design Freedom powered by the breakthrough synchronous technology delivering up to a 100 times faster design experience than ever before. Synchronous technology combines with the existing NX capabilities so data does not need to be translated or rebuilt. This combines parametric and history-free approaches to speed design. NX 6 Design Freedom works naturally within existing user workflows for faster adoption.

For simulation, NX 6 delivers more than 350 user-driven enhancements encompassing 10 different applications for pervasive lifecycle simulation. NX 6 Advanced Simulation directly leverages Design Freedom powered by synchronous technology to enable the rapid evaluation of design modifications based on geometry from any CAD system. NX 6 combines unique 3-D geometry editing, automated abstraction and FE meshing tools with in-depth bottom-up finite element (FE) modeling and meshing tools. The new assembly capability for FE models enables engineers to integrate the separate simulation modeling efforts of distributed teams, such as suppliers and global design/analysis teams. NX 6 advanced simulation handles the most demanding CAE challenges, providing a 30 percent reduction in physical prototypes.

In addition, the NX 6 CAE user interface and FE modeling options leverage "skins" to look like NASTRAN(R), ANSYS(R), ABAQUS(R) or LS-DYNA(R).

Customers with ongoing maintenance contracts can now download NX 6 with synchronous technology at no extra charge at http://support.ugs.com/ . For more information, visit http://www.siemens.com/nx .

Raytheon Completes Significant Milestones for the GPS Ground Control SegmentOn time completion lays the foundation for successful program execution

AURORA, Colo., July 29, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company has completed two significant milestones for the U.S. Air Force's Global Positioning System (GPS) next-generation Control Segment (OCX), which establishes a solid foundation and roadmap to keep the program on track and on schedule.

Raytheon completed the integrated baseline review (IBR) and subsequently completed the standard Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) appraisal method for process improvement (SCAMPI-B) in late June 2008.

"The completion of the IBR and SCAMPI-B milestones demonstrates the Raytheon OCX team's commitment, maturity and readiness to deliver a robust system for fielding," said Bob Canty, vice president and program manager of GPS OCX for Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems. "Raytheon's OCX team will deliver a superior, low-risk and on-time solution to the government."

The IBR validated the Raytheon OCX team's earned value management system, established the credibility of the technical, schedule and cost baselines and developed a mutual understanding of program risks. The SCAMPI-B was a systematic appraisal of the Raytheon OCX team's processes and the maturity level of the team executing these processes.

The completion of the integrated baseline review and SCAMPI-B is an accomplishment of Raytheon, Boeing, ITT Industries, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Braxton Technologies, Infinity Systems Engineering and SRI International. Raytheon achieved the first milestone for the OCX program, satisfying the Air Force's System Requirement Review criteria, in February 2008.

Raytheon is currently under an 18-month, $160 million contract administered by the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., for the first phase of the GPS OCX program.

Based in Garland, Texas, Raytheon IIS is a leading provider of information and intelligence solutions to the government. IIS had 2007 annual revenues of approximately $2.7 billion and employs more than 9,000 engineering and technical professionals worldwide.

Raytheon Company, with 2007 sales of $21.3 billion, is a technology leader specializing in defense, homeland security and other government markets throughout the world. With a history of innovation spanning 86 years, Raytheon provides state-of-the-art electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a broad range of mission support services. With headquarters in Waltham, Mass., Raytheon employs 72,000 people worldwide.

    Note to Editors:

The Capability Maturity Model(R) Integration (CMMI(SM)) is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes.

SCAMPI is designed to provide benchmark quality ratings relative to CMMI models.

"Personal and professional lives are becoming increasingly connected and the Nokia E71 is a stylish and powerful way to balance both, including through its unique one-click 'switch mode' function which adjusts the E71's look, feel and featured application-set from work-focused to personal- focused."

One guest at Nokia's manhattan preview event, Alan Mitchell, said, "I've been waiting for the E71 for a long time; I've followed every bit of information about its release. The reason I waited so long is that this device has everything I want my smartphone to have -- style, GPS, Wi-Fi, camera that can take video, 3G and a full keyboard -- competitors devices don't compare."

The Nokia E71 also includes a number of entertainment features and supports many of the latest Ovi services including Nokia Maps and Share on Ovi. With integrated A-GPS and Nokia Maps 2.0, the Nokia E71 can easily pinpoint locations and provide optional turn-by-turn navigation information. The device also captures high-quality images and videos with its 3.2 megapixel camera, which can be quickly uploaded and shared with friends and family around the world using the fun and easy Share on Ovi service.

Easy-to-configure email, including support for both enterprise-grade email including Mail for Exchange and Intellisync as well as the most popular consumer email services like Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail, combined with real-time access to calendar information, contacts and to-do lists make the Nokia E71 a perfect productivity tool. Built-in encryption technology for both the device memory and an optional microSD memory card is also included with the Nokia E71.

"Despite its compact size, the Nokia E71 manages to integrate an extremely comfortable and usable QWERTY keyboard. E-mail setup is also a strong point for the Nokia E71. Whether using a corporate Exchange server or a personal e- mail account, the built-in setup wizard makes setup quick and easy for both IT professionals and end consumers alike," said Andrew Brown, Director of Wireless Enterprise Strategies for Strategy Analytics.

Another guest, Dean Hamilton, shared, "I previously owned the Nokia E61i so upgrading was a natural choice. The E71 is the only device that does everything I need it to do -- VPN access, VoIP, sync my calendar and contacts. Also, I don't carry a separate camera so the 3.2 megapixel is something I needed."

The new Nokia E71 is now available for an unsubsidized retail price of approximately $500.

Sunrise Telecom(R) Traffic Analysis and Monitoring System Selected by Alice Germany for SS7 and VoIP MonitoringSunrise Telecom's flagship telecommunication surveillance system will monitor performance and troubleshoot networks for Alice, Telecom Italia's broadband access provider in Germany

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sunrise Telecom(R) Incorporated (Pink Sheets: SRTI.PK), a leader in test and measurement solutions for telecom, wireless and cable networks, today announced that its Traffic Analysis and Monitoring System (TAMS) and TAMS 7-VoIP Application Module will be deployed by Alice Germany, the German broadband access provider of Telecom Italia. Alice's network operation department will use these market-leading tools to troubleshoot and monitor its growing NGN network.

The Sunrise Telecom solution was chosen, in part, because of its advanced reporting engine, which can alert the operations department of degradations both in the network and with services. This critical function provides a better view into how customers actually experience the services, and enables significantly faster reaction times for corrective actions. In addition, the TAMS and TAMS 7-VoIP Application Module allow Alice to monitor interconnection traffic links with Other Licensed Operators (OLOs) to better measure and enforce service level agreement guarantees.

"With the new generation of interactive data services being offered over wireless and wireline networks, it is imperative that operators understand not just how the network is behaving, but how end-users are actually experiencing the services," said Michele Campriani, general manager of Sunrise Telecom's Protocol Products Group. "We are very proud of our partnership with Alice/Telecom Italia, as they represent a textbook example of how the effective use of monitoring and troubleshooting tools can ease deployment of these advanced services and actually improve their performance over time."

Sunrise Telecom's TAMS is a flexible and cost-effective network maintenance and diagnostic system for wireline, wireless, VoIP service providers and carriers. The system provides troubleshooting, reporting, alarming and call detail record (CDR) forwarding to an external billing verification application. Each probe unit supports between four and 32 E1/T1 links, up to eight LAN links and STM-1 connections, providing a complete network monitoring solution for small and large service providers, without high overhead costs. The easy-to-use system indicates network faults as well as provides tools for problem isolation, analysis, and resolution verification in one integrated platform.

The TAMS 7-VoIP system, comprised of eight probes based on NeTracker technology and one centralized server, monitors every point of interconnection as well as Softswitch interconnections to all NGN elements. With the TAMS, this application module enables customers to trace a specific call through the network regardless of the traversed protocols and easily understand if problems are on the network or coming from external sources. For more information visit the Sunrise Telecom website http://www.sunrisetelecom.com/products/tams.aspx or email the company at pre-sales.support@sunrisetelecom.it.

China Security and Surveillance Technology, Inc. to Apply for Dual Listing of Its Shares on the Dubai International Financial Exchange

SHENZHEN, China, July 29 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- China Security & Surveillance Technology, Inc. ('CSST' or 'Company'), a leading provider of digital surveillance technology in the People's Republic of China, today announced its intention to apply to list its shares on the Dubai International Financial Exchange (the "DIFX"). The Company is already listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and has a market capitalisation of over US$560 million (28 July, 2008). CSST expects to file an application for a secondary listing of the Company's shares with the DIFX and related authorities over the next few weeks and anticipates that its shares will be approved for trading on the DIFX before the end of October, 2008.

Formed in September 2005, the DIFX is a new international stock exchange, based in the United Arab Emirates. The exchange provides state of the art trading technology, servicing both the rapidly expanding Middle East region and permitting any international company to list, providing, inter alia, it has a market capitalisation of USD 50 million or more. Already boasting the largest listed sukuk (Islamic Bond) market, the DIFX has listed 15 international companies from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, India, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States of America. CSR would be joining such companies as Goldfields, Kingdom Hotels and DP World. Borse Dubai, the DIFX parent company, recently acquired 19.9 per cent of NASDAQ - OMX and simultaneously sold 33 per cent of the DIFX to NASDAQ.

"We are extremely excited about the opportunity of becoming the first Chinese company and also the first NYSE-listed company to list its shares on the DIFX. This will provide our group with wider market access and a significantly higher profile in the Middle East. While we continue with our business strategy of expanding domestically in China, we believe that a listing in Dubai will provide the group with a foothold into the rapidly expanding Middle East markets and surrounding regions, including Africa, India and Pakistan. Demand for security related products and services within these regions continues to grow significantly. The DIFX bridges the gap between the capital markets in Hong Kong, New York and London," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Guoshen Tu.

Dubai-based Investment Bank, MAC Capital Limited, has been appointed to advise the Company on its listing.

"A listing on the DIFX would extend the number of hours that CSST's stock will be able to trade in a business day, would eventually broaden its shareholder base and would boost the profile of the Company in the Middle East. New investors from the U.A.E. and the other Gulf countries would now be able to directly participate in the phenomenal growth of this company. CSST's various business lines should be in great demand in the region and a successful listing on the DIFX will certainly demonstrate its willingness to become part of the Gulf Cooperation Council's business community," added Robert W. McMillen, Chairman of MAC Capital.

NVIDIA Brings New World of Gaming to Notebook PCsIndustry-Leading Performance and Robust PhysX Advances Notebook Visual Computing

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NVIDIA Corporation has unveiled a new era of notebook PC gaming, featuring advanced rendering and physics effects that will transform gaming beyond what consumers know today. Enabling this evolution is a new generation of notebook PCs equipped with NVIDIA's newest GeForce(R) 9800M and 9700M GPUs and featuring NVIDIA's PhysX(TM) physics engine. Perhaps the most significant advancements in PC gaming since DirectX 9, the new GPUs and PhysX will let notebook gamers enjoy the latest games in all their glory, experiencing ultra-realistic graphics and physical effects that mimic the real world, transforming their gaming into a truly cinematic experience.

    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080729/AQTU074-a) (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080729/AQTU074-b) (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20020613/NVDALOGO)

GeForce GPUs, with their superior performance, are the overwhelming choice of gamers and gaming notebook makers worldwide. The improved performance and PhysX support of the new GeForce 9800M and 9700M GPUs are expected to continue this trend, powering the lion's share of the next-generation gaming notebooks from top names in the PC industry. Toshiba is the first of many top-tier notebook makers to announce notebooks using the new GeForce GPUs.

"Toshiba has been delivering superior visuals for laptops with GeForce graphics ever since NVIDIA launched its first notebook GPU. This combination helped to create Toshiba's successful line of powerful gaming laptops with GeForce and SLI(R) technology," said Yasuhisa Arabiki, Senior Manager, PC Product Planning Department, Personal Computer & Network Company, Toshiba Corporation. "Toshiba is continuing its commitment to deliver a great gaming experience by featuring GeForce 9800M GTX and GeForce 9700M GTS throughout the Qosmio X300/X305 Series."

The GeForce 9M Series GPUs, with their parallel processing design, are ushering in a new generation of ultra-realistic games by being the only GPUs to support PhysX technology. The world's most pervasive physics engine, PhysX technology is being used by more than 25,000 developers worldwide and is already delivering dynamic 3D realism to more than 140 games across multiple platforms. With PhysX technology, developers can incorporate effects such as rigid body dynamics, collision detection, and cloth simulation, dramatically changing the way the games are played and how the on-screen stories unfold, and then accelerating those effects using the processing power of the GPU.

"We are using the PhysX API in all of our 3D games including Brothers in Arms, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Borderlands," said Corrinne Yu, Director of Platform Technology at Gearbox Software. "Going forward, it just makes sense to leverage the GPU parallel architecture for physics. This enables GPU acceleration for everything from rigid body collision, vehicle physics, collision with destructible pieces, and numerous simulation effects. Gamers will be able to experience characters, objects, and effects that dynamically move and interact in their environments as they do in real life."

The advantages of a GeForce 9M Series GPU in your notebook don't stop with games. Software developers are also harnessing the architectural advantages of GPUs to speed up complex processing in commonly used, non-game applications. Tasks that used to take hours, like converting digital video for a portable video player, can now be performed in minutes. Other tasks like high- resolution photo editing, where wait times interrupt the creative flow, can be done in real time on a GPU, like one of the GeForce 9M Series.

Five versions of the new GPUs are available. At the ultra-high-end is the GeForce 9800M GTX, GeForce 9800M GTS, and GeForce 9800 GT. These are joined by GeForce 9700M GTS and GeForce 9700M GT flavors. These join the existing GeForce 9600M and 9500M GPUs for mid-range and mainstream notebooks.

The new NVIDIA GeForce 9800M and GeForce 9700M GPUs feature: -- NVIDIA's PhysX technology for real-time game physics calculations -- 112 processing cores for compute-intensive tasks like video conversion and transcoding -- New lightning-fast graphics engine for unprecedented performance, extraordinarily detailed environments, and film-quality game effects -- Support for NVIDIA SLI(R) multi-GPU configurations for the best gaming experience on a notebook PC -- Support for Hybrid SLI technology for longer battery life, cooler operation, and lower noise -- PureVideo(R) HD video processing features for improved color and contrast when playing back video -- Full support for the latest Blu-ray advancements, including BD-Live and dual-stream video playback -- Support for the new MXM(TM) version 3.0 graphics module specification

The new GeForce 9800M and GeForce 9700M Series GPUs will be available from over 20 notebook companies worldwide. In addition to Toshiba, other top-tier makers are expected to announce notebooks featuring the new GPUs in the coming months. Gaming notebooks have also been announced from regional PC companies such as Sager, Pioneer Computers Australia, Zepto, rock, Novatech, XXODD, Chiligreen, Multirama, Plaisio, Ergo, Cioce, Insys, Infinity, Cybersystem, and Cizmo.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20000822/MSFTLOGO)

The API is an extension of the MSN Direct feature initially launched at International CES earlier this year. With this updated version, MSN Direct allows any Web site to send location information to navigation devices either wirelessly or via a USB connection. The wireless delivery is compatible with MSN Direct-enabled devices that have the Send to GPS feature, including several units from Garmin Ltd. such as the nuvi 780 and nuvi 880, along with nuvi 5000, nuvi 750, nuvi 760, or nuvi 2x5 series devices with the optional MSN Direct receiver. USB delivery is also compatible with the vast majority of remaining Garmin navigators.

"MSN Direct opens up opportunities for Web sites in a variety of areas -- real estate, travel, event planning and food service -- to make it fast and simple for visitors to have access to turn-by-turn directions on their navigation device," said Joe Coco, product unit manager of the MSN Direct initiative at Microsoft. "MSN Direct helps consumers get the most out of their navigation device, while also helping businesses drive more customers to their locations."

A number of MSN Direct partners, including Garmin and Alpine Electronics Inc., plan to ship or are already shipping GPS products that are compatible with the MSN Direct Send to GPS feature.

"As more and more consumers are using their PC to locate their desired destinations and then needing to find those exact locations on their GPS device, MSN Direct is making that process easier for our customers," said Roger Jollis, Garmin's director of OEM and mobile marketing. "Garmin was the first to offer MSN Direct on an automotive GPS, and we are pleased with MSN Direct's newest innovation because it will be very helpful to our customers."

For developers, the API is free, simple to integrate and uses standard Web programming techniques. In addition to latitude and longitude, Web sites can send a phone number, address, and other information. Developers can go to http://www.msndirect.com/developer for more information.

GSI Commerce Remains a Top Choice Among Internet Retailer's Top 500 Online RetailersGSI Ranks as Second Largest Overall Provider of E-Commerce Services

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., July 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GSI Commerce Inc. is the second most frequently selected e-commerce technology and services provider across multiple categories, according to research published by Internet Retailer in its most recent Top 500 Guide. Out of the more than 500 services and solution providers mentioned in the guide, GSI is listed as the provider of choice more often than all but one other company -- nearly 200 times across the 18 e-commerce applications and service categories researched. The company listed most often is Web analytics provider Omniture Inc., which has been an alliance partner of GSI since 2005. The Top 500 Guide, which is published annually, profiles and provides comprehensive analysis of the nation's largest 500 online retailers.

"GSI has ranked as a leading provider in the Top 500 Guide for a number of years, which is a testament to our consistent delivery of a range of e-commerce solutions and services that drive business for our partners," said Fiona Dias, executive vice president of partner strategy and marketing for GSI. "Securing the number two spot this year highlights GSI's success developing deep and strategic partnerships with many of the leading online retailers. Given the breadth of services we provide, we're in a unique position to further expand our reach. For example, with our recent acquisition of leading e-mail services provider e-Dialog, we significantly expanded our e-mail marketing offerings to top retailers in the United States and Europe."

According to Internet Retailer, in aggregate the Top 500 retailers accounted for a total of $101.7 billion, of the nation's $166 billion in online retail sales in 2007 and grew their online sales by 21.6 percent. GSI provides services and solutions in nearly every one of the 18 categories measured by the guide. Of these categories, GSI is named the leader or runner up in six categories based on frequency of use among the Top 500 online retailers. They are: content management, customer relationship management, customer service, fulfillment, order management, and site design.

The top three e-commerce application and service providers will be listed by Internet Retailer in its August issue. Published by Chicago-based Vertical Web Media LLC, Internet Retailer is a monthly national business magazine, Web site conference and directory that serve the retailing community. The Internet Retailer family of products focuses on the Internet's vital role in a wide array of retailing activities, including Web merchandising, supply chain management and multichannel integration.
