NI LabVIEW 8.6 Meets Parallel Programming Challenge to Drive PerformanceNew Version of Software Empowers Users to Take Advantage of Multicore, FPGA and Wireless Technologies

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 4, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NIWeek -- National Instruments today announced LabVIEW 8.6, the latest version of the graphical system design software platform for control, test and embedded system development. Building on the inherent parallel nature of graphical programming, LabVIEW 8.6 delivers new tools to help engineers and scientists take advantage of the benefits of multicore processors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and wireless communication.

    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080804/LAM510)

To take advantage of these technologies, engineers currently are forced to work with multiple tools which are not designed for parallel programming. By using the latest version of LabVIEW, engineers now have a single platform to increase test and control system throughput with multicore processors, reduce the development time of high-performance FPGA-based advanced control and embedded prototyping applications and more easily create distributed measurement systems to acquire data remotely.

"To meet the performance and efficiency demands of cutting-edge applications such as controlling robotic systems, testing wireless devices and designing hybrid vehicles, users must have the ability to quickly incorporate the latest technologies such as multicore processors, FPGAs and wireless communication," said Dr. James Truchard, president, CEO and cofounder of National Instruments. "LabVIEW offers the shortest path to apply these technologies using parallel programming while providing users the flexibility to define their solutions with application-specific optimizations."

    Achieve Supercomputing with Multicore Processors

The opportunity for breakthrough performance in test and measurement systems increases as standard systems gain more processing cores. Expanding on the built-in multithreading technology of the LabVIEW platform, LabVIEW 8.6 offers supercomputing performance through multicore-optimized features which can help engineers process increasing amounts of measurement data to meet advanced control application challenges and increase test system throughput.

To increase performance, LabVIEW 8.6 includes more than 1,200 advanced analysis functions optimized for faster math and signal processing on multicore systems for control and test applications. Vision applications can benefit from multicore systems by using innovative image processing functions included in the NI Vision Development Module for LabVIEW 8.6 that automatically distributes data sets across multiple cores. Also using new multicore features, test engineers can develop applications to test wireless devices up to four times faster with the latest version of the NI Modulation Toolkit for LabVIEW, and control system engineers can execute simulation models in parallel up to five times faster with the LabVIEW 8.6 Control Design and Simulation Module. Additionally, engineers now can better identify parallel sections of code using a new feature that reorganizes LabVIEW diagrams.

Add FPGA Technology to an Application -- No Digital Design Expertise Required

With the intuitive dataflow paradigm of LabVIEW, engineers can use the LabVIEW FPGA Module and FPGA-based commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware such as NI CompactRIO to customize measurement and control systems for increased performance in applications such as semiconductor validation and advanced machine control. LabVIEW 8.6 continues to make FPGAs more accessible to domain experts without experience in low-level hardware description languages or board-level design.

LabVIEW 8.6 further reduces FPGA-based development time with new features that engineers can use to program CompactRIO programmable automation controllers (PACs) directly without having to separately program the FPGA. In addition, new simulation features reduce the number of time-consuming compilations by validating an FPGA application on the desktop. LabVIEW 8.6 also offers new IP development and integration features including the new fast Fourier transform (FFT) IP core to offload spectral analysis functions which increases the performance in applications such as machine condition monitoring and RF test. Engineers easily can import existing or third-party IP into LabVIEW FPGA using the new component-level IP (CLIP) node.

Acquire and Analyze Data From Remote Systems With Wireless Technology

As wireless technology advances, engineers have the opportunity to take measurements in isolated locations. Using wireless technology with LabVIEW 8.6, engineers can extend applications into new areas of data acquisition, such as environmental and structural monitoring. The flexibility of LabVIEW graphical programming and the ubiquity of Wi-Fi network infrastructure make it easy to incorporate wireless connectivity into new or existing PC-based measurement and control systems.

With support for the latest wireless data acquisition devices and drivers for 22 third-party wireless sensors, LabVIEW 8.6 simplifies programming of distributed measurement systems with a single software platform. Engineers now can configure data acquisition applications easily to use NI Wi-Fi data acquisition (DAQ) hardware without making code changes in LabVIEW 8.6. New 3-D visualization tools in LabVIEW 8.6 help engineers integrate remote measurements with design models to accelerate design validation.

Interact with LabVIEW Applications Using Any Web-Enabled Device

As constant connectivity between people and systems becomes more prevalent, engineers are using the Web to interact with systems from any location on a variety of devices. With LabVIEW 8.6, engineers now can convert LabVIEW applications into Web services on desktop and real-time hardware that they can access from any web-enabled device such as smart phones and PCs. With this feature, engineers can develop remote user interfaces for their LabVIEW applications using standard web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript and Flash.

Readers interested in learning more about LabVIEW 8.6 and downloading the evaluation software can visit http://www.ni.com/labview86. LabVIEW platform now comes on DVD for easier installation and includes an evaluation mode for the entire LabVIEW platform. Members of the LabVIEW service maintenance and support program will automatically receive LabVIEW 8.6 in the mail or can download the new version at the Services Resource Center at http://www.ni.com/src. Readers whose software is part of a company-wide Volume License Agreement (VLA) should contact their VLA administrators for installation instructions.

Mikros Systems and Ocean Power Technologies to Exhibit New Ocean Powered Buoy

PRINCETON, N.J., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mikros Systems Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: MKRS) , teamed with Ocean Power Technologies, Inc., completed an SBIR contract for a Phase I study for a communication buoy, self powered by ocean waves. The SBIR was sponsored by SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command) and related to communications at speed and depth.

Mikros Systems and Ocean Power Technologies successfully completed an engineering study that proves small PowerBuoys(R) can generate sufficient energy from wind waves and low sea states. Both companies invested their own funds to design, build, and demonstrate in the ocean a prototype buoy based on the results of the study. The power output from this prototype exceeded the design goals of the project.

PowerBuoys(R) have the advantage of longer life in the water over those powered by batteries or diesel generators, in that they require less maintenance and do not need to be refueled periodically.

The company plans to market this new product, together with Ocean Power Technologies, to the US Navy, Coast Guard, and Department of Homeland Security. The company will exhibit the buoy at the Office of Naval Research Science and Technology Partnership Conference at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC on 12-14 August, 2008.

"This exposure to corporate and government executives provides us with a tremendous opportunity to showcase this new and original technology," said Thomas J. Meaney, President of Mikros.

TII Network Technologies Reports Q2 2008 ResultsOperating Income Improvement Continues

EDGEWOOD, N.Y., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TII Network Technologies, Inc. , a leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing network products for the communications industry, today reported improved operating income and net income for the three and six months ended June 30, 2008.

Net sales for the three months ended June 30, 2008 were $9.9 million compared to $13.7 million in the comparable prior year period, a decrease of $3.9 million or 28.1%. Net sales for the six months ended June 30, 2008 were $18.7 million compared to $22.2 million in the comparable prior year period, a decrease of $3.4 million or 15.5%. The decrease was primarily due to a lower level of sales of the Company's HomePlug(R) products in the second quarter of 2008 than in the same period in 2007, when the Company began initial shipments of those products under a contract won in 2007.

During the three months ended June 30, 2008 and 2007, gross profit was $3.5 million, while gross profit margin improved to 35.7% from 25.8%. During the six months ended June 30, 2008 gross profit was $6.8 million, compared to $6.3 million in the prior year period, an increase of $440,000 or 6.9%, while gross profit margin improved to 36.2% from 28.6%. The improvement in gross profit margin in the 2008 periods over the 2007 periods was primarily due to (a) cost savings resulting from the consolidation of our Puerto Rico operations into our facility in Edgewood, New York, (b) the absence of related severance charges recorded in the prior year periods. There were no such severance charges recorded in the current year periods and (c) a change in product mix.

During the three months ended June 30, 2008, operating expenses were $2.9 million compared to $3.1 million in the prior year period, a decrease of $291,000 or 9.3%. During the six months ended June 30, 2008, operating expenses were $5.9 million compared to $6.2 million in the prior year period, a decrease of $343,000 or 5.5%. The decrease in operating expenses in the 2008 periods from the 2007 periods was primarily due to decreases in salary and related benefits expenses resulting from a decrease in headcount.

Net income was $369,000 for the three months ended June 30, 2008 compared to $169,000 for the comparable prior year period, an improvement of $200,000. The current period results included a tax provision of $309,000 compared to $267,000 in the prior year comparable period. Earnings per share on a basic and diluted basis for the three months ended June 30, 2008 was $0.03 compared to $0.01 for the comparable prior year period.

Net income was $519,000 for the six months ended June 30, 2008 compared to $12,000 for the comparable prior year period, an improvement of $507,000. The current period results included a tax provision of $399,000 compared to $181,000 in the prior year comparable period. Earnings per share on a basic and diluted basis for the six months ended June 30, 2008 was $0.04 compared to $0.00 for the comparable prior year period.

Kenneth A. Paladino, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We are very pleased with the sequential improvement in sales and earnings over the first quarter of this year, as we continue to realize the benefits of the operational changes we made last year, evidenced by higher margins, lower expenses and, most importantly, increased operating income. While inventories are higher than normal, with presently anticipated sales, inventories should be back at traditional levels by year end.

We are seeing the effects of the economic slow-down on our markets, but we believe the investments we have made in our business model over the last year and the continued successful execution of our strategy will enable us to continue to realize improved financial results."

Satyam Selects ChangeBASE AOK to Accelerate Application Deployment and Migration

HYDERABAD, India, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Satyam Computer Services Ltd. , a leading global business consulting and information technology services provider, announced today that it has partnered with ChangeBASE, the London-based maker of the AOK suite of compatibility products. The agreement calls for Satyam to integrate ChangeBASE AOK within its existing services, to provide customers with an accelerated Application Compatibility Testing, Remediation and Packaging solution.

The world-class software, coupled with Satyam's extensive expertise, will automate many of the tasks required to make applications work seamlessly on a chosen platform. The result is a more rapid process for application compatibility reporting and repair issues across a range of platforms, including Microsoft XP and VISTA, as well as a broad range of virtualization environments. It is especially useful in the early phases of a project, because it assesses migration program requirements very quickly and accurately.

"By leveraging ChangeBASE AOK, we can provide a detailed report on the status of a complete application suite before a migration project," said Nick Sharma, the global head of Satyam's Infrastructure Management Practice. "When incorporated into our service suite, the ChangeBASE tools remove many obstacles associated with application deployment, which is a considerable challenge for many organizations. They also solve complex business and technology problems very rapidly, so companies can focus on strategic initiatives."

AOK has enabled Satyam to reduce the time required to package applications for a new environment by 70 percent. Additionally, Satyam is launching several new services that incorporate AOK. These include an application portfolio assessment that produces results in days, rather than months. It also determines applications' readiness to run on new platforms, such as VISTA or Virtualization. Several Satyam clients have reduced the time of such programs by 90 percent. At the same time, service quality and consistency have improved.

Satyam is the first Microsoft Applications Compatibility Factory partner to deploy AOK. At first, it will deploy the tool in its packaging factory, and then on-site operations, enabling clients to benefit from infrastructure management services more quickly and at less cost.

"Satyam is revolutionizing several traditionally manual processes for application compatibility testing and packaging, and creating a new benchmark in application estate management services," Sharma added. "These efforts are resulting in practical, real-world advantages for customers."

"Several organizations have benchmarked our software, and the services Satyam has built around it, and found that it provides significant cost, accuracy, consistency and quality benefits," said ChangeBASE Managing Director John Tate. "We look forward to helping Satyam's ever-growing list of global customers increase their efficiency and serve customers better by managing their applications and taking advantage of optimal OS and virtual platforms with ease."

Playboy.com and Holly Madison From E!'s 'The Girls Next Door' Select Six Sexy Winners Through Nationwide Casting Call on YouTube

NEW YORK, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In commemoration of its 55th anniversary, Playboy recently selected six winners of its first-ever YouTube(TM) online talent search. The competition, which launched in April, invited hopeful Playboy models to post their videos on Playboy's casting channel on YouTube, the world's most popular online video community, allowing millions of people to discover, watch, and share originally created videos. Videos relating to the search generated millions of views on YouTube and Playboy.com and, now, pictorials of these six talented beauties will appear exclusively on Playboy.com beginning today -- with new features running every Friday for the next six weeks.

The six YouTube-search winners were honored with a trip to Los Angeles where they stayed at the world-renowned Playboy Mansion. During their stay, they participated in a Playmate test shoot, a fashion pictorial featuring Playboy's autumn/winter apparel collection, and a nude pictorial that will appear online. The test-shoot could result in one of the online winners being selected as a Playmate, perhaps even the prized 55th Anniversary Playmate for Playboy magazine's January 2009 issue. With this unprecedented online search, Playboy was able to receive submissions from all over North America rather than being limited to traditional on-location casting calls. Playboy.com and Holly chose the following online-video submissions as winners:

    1. Jaime Bradford, 18, Phoenix, AZ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SVsToJgVBc 2. Autumn Adele, 25, Amelia Island, FL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho98DghPq2s 3. LaToya Howard, 21, Tulsa, OK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I1h3iBg-d8 4. Amy Lynn Grover, 24, Toronto, ON http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH-b8BpLqYg 5. To enter the contest, women visited Playboy's YouTube(TM) Channel (http://www.youtube.com/PlayboyCasting) to post a two-minute, non-nude video response to Holly's digital invitation. Then, the best videos appeared on Playboy.com where they were ranked by Playboy fans before Holly and Playboy's editorial team selected the winners. Full details, an FAQ, and rules for video submission can be found at http://www.playboy.com/pm55.

TechWeb's Advanced Trading Magazine Names Top Ten Quantitative Analyst SchoolsIndustry Veterans Rank Financial Engineering Programs Based on Wall Street Recruitability

MANHASSET, N.Y., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TechWeb's Advanced Trading, the premiere source for objective industry-specific content for trading executives, today announced the Top Ten schools for quantitative analysts. Working closely with Wall Street veterans, Advanced Trading chose the top schools in terms of financial services recruitability. Published in the August issue, the article entitled, "The Top 10 Quant Schools, According to the Street" was written by executive editor, Cristina McEachern. The feature story can be found online at: http://www.advancedtrading.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=209102204.

Quantitative analysts -- known in the industry as "quants" -- use complex algorithms to trade more effectively and grow portfolios. Quants are increasingly in high demand on Wall Street, driving more universities to establish educational programs for critical financial services positions. Programs typically run one to two years with a heavy concentration in math and programming.

Many quant schools offer a Master in Financial Engineering (M.F.E.) degree, while others offer similar degrees, including a Master of Science in Financial Engineering (M.S.F.E.), a Master of Science in Financial Math (M.S.F.M.), a Master of Science of Mathematics in Finance (M.S.M.F.) and a Master in Mathematical Finance (M.M.F.).

The Top Ten schools are: -- Carnegie Mellon University -- Columbia University -- Cornell University -- New York University -- Princeton University -- Rutgers University -- Stanford University -- University of California at Berkeley -- University of Chicago -- University of Michigan

For the first time, Advanced Trading assembled a board of Wall Street veterans to help compile the university list, including: Robert Almgren, cofounder of Quantitative Brokers, adjunct faculty member at New York University Courant Institute's Mathematics in Finance program and former director of the Mathematical Finance program at the University of Toronto; Ian Domowitz, managing director of networking and analytical and research products at ITG; Steven Janowski, head of financial engineering at FX Solutions; and Leo Murphy, manager of Trading Technologies' University Relations Program.

The top schools were chosen based on the following criteria: Students level of experience coming into the program; program age; program structure; specific program classes relating to financial services; Wall Street faculty; student preparedness for financial services positions post program; alumni success on Wall Street, and overall financial services recruitability of students graduating.

"Quants are making an essential contribution to the financial services industry," said McEachern. "The top ten quant schools are actively preparing students for Wall Street, by providing the necessary demanding skills sets required for achieving success in this evolving new career."

    - New Version of Software Empowers Users to Take Advantage of Multicore, FPGA and Wireless Technologies

NIWeek -- National Instruments (Nasdaq: NATI) today announced LabVIEW 8.6, the latest version of the graphical system design software platform for control, test and embedded system development.

NI LabVIEW 8.6 relève le défi de la programmation parallèle pour accroître les performances

    AUSTIN, Texas, August 4 /PRNewswire/ --

    (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080804/LAM510)

TI unveils next-generation 3-A DDR termination regulatorLinear regulator supports DDR3 power requirements for low-power-mode memory termination

DALLAS, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) introduced today a sink/source double data rate (DDR) termination regulator that supports all power management requirements for DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 low-power memory termination. The new easy-to-use regulator requires only 20 uF of ceramic output capacitance, nearly 80 percent less capacitance than competitive solutions. Designers can therefore use the device to achieve smaller and lower-cost DDR memory termination in modern, high-memory content electronics, including digital TVs, Set-Top boxes, VGA cards, telecom, datacom, notebook and desktop computers, and an increasingly wide range of consumer electronics. See: http://www.ti.com/tps51200-pr.

The wide-bandwidth internal transconductance, Gm amplifier and integral dynamic voltage positioning enables ultra-fast transient response with minimal external output capacitance. In a typical application with a -1.5-A to +1.5-A load step, the output voltage variation is less than 25 mV. TPS51200 is designed to work with bias voltage between 2.375 and 3.5V, which makes it very attractive in the systems where only 2.5 or 3.3V rail is available. Additionally, the device includes the S3 sleep-state control during suspend to RAM.

The TPS51200 can also be used as a general-purpose, high-performance low dropout (LDO) regulator with an input range of 1.1 to 3.5V. The device supports tracking start-up and shutdown features when the enable pin is connected to the system bus voltage, which simplifies the design process by allowing the designer to easily implement sequencing in multi-rail systems.

The TPS51200 enhances TI's broad portfolio of DDR memory power solutions, including the TPS51100 DDR termination regulator, TPS51116 DDR Power Switcher with integrated sink/source LDO and TPS40042 low-voltage tracking switching regulator for DDR termination. The TPS51200 also complements TI's broad portfolio of DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 phase-locked loops (PLLs) and LDOs for memory technologies, including the SN74SSQE32882, PLL integrated DDR3 register for registered dual in-line memory modules, which is available in full production.

    Pricing and availability

TPS51200 is currently available in volume from TI and its authorized distributors in a thermally-enhanced SON-10 PowerPAD(TM) integrated circuit package. Suggested resale price is $0.90 in quantities of 1,000 units. Evaluation modules are $49 each and can be ordered through http://www.power.ti.com/.

Motorola PremierOne(TM) Public Sector Applications Portfolio Optimizes New Technology PlatformKeeping communities safer and improving response time with new public safety and public service applications, Motorola's PremierOne portfolio transforms the way government responds to the community

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- APCO 2008 (Booth 1414) -- Motorola, Inc. announced its new public sector applications portfolio -- PremierOne (http://business.motorola.com/PremierOne) -- the next evolution in public safety and service solutions, which transforms the way agencies operate, collaborate and share information. As a long-standing partner to the public sector, Motorola designed PremierOne to help agencies respond to citizens through operationally intuitive applications with a common platform to access centralized information and tools. Motorola is showcasing its next generation PremierOne computer aided dispatch (CAD), Mobile Data, and 3-1-1 customer service request (CSR) applications at the 74th International APCO conference.

Until now, most government public safety and service agencies have used separate applications on different platforms and formats, leading to high administrative costs, disparate information sources and duplication of information. Motorola's next generation PremierOne portfolio is comprised of two suites of applications each using a shared services approach to centralize application management and consolidate information sharing. Ultimately, PremierOne provides agencies with a streamlined, cost-effective approach to managing government-wide operations.

Additionally, PremierOne's location-centric design identifies appropriate resources to promote rapid assignment of personnel and tasks and automate collaboration between agencies. With PremierOne's common platform approach and feature rich applications, agencies have the tools they need to improve citizen response, optimize services and effectively mobilize response teams within their communities.

"Motorola understands the changing, dynamic environment of public safety and public service and continues to invest in robust, intuitive applications through new architecture and emerging technologies," said Girish Rishi, vice president and general manager Motorola Applications and Data Solutions. "We're proud to announce PremierOne as the latest solution in an already industry leading government portfolio, which enables our customers to deliver best in class service."

PremierOne gives agencies a more flexible, scalable and robust common technology platform enabling information sharing and integration across the government enterprise to improve responses in both day-to-day and emergency situations. Access to PremierOne solutions, both in the office and in the field, ensures information is always available for mission-critical tasks. PremierOne applications include an updated intuitive user interface to create seamless interactions and rapid situational response. The application portfolio also includes workforce automation to streamline government operations for more cost-effective citizen response, resource allocation and incident management.

With nearly 80 years of experience in the government and public safety market, Motorola has a keen understanding of the unique needs of agencies. Motorola is committed to ensuring that communicating with technology becomes second nature (http://www.motorola.com/secondnature) to government and public safety officials. With the help of user-centric design, Motorola has updated the CAD, Mobile Data and CSR applications to optimize response efficiency. The PremierOne application portfolio is another way that Motorola provides mission critical (http://www.motorola.com/missioncriticaldesign) Solutions to government and enables a real-time view for the communities it serves.

Motorola's Project 25 APX(TM) Multi-Band Two-Way Radios Deliver Interoperability on DemandWorld's first Project 25 multi-band portfolio to provide seamless interoperability, backwards and forwards compatibility to deliver enhanced solutions to mission critical users

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- APCO 2008 (Booth 1414) -- Motorola, Inc. today announced the industry's first Project 25 (P25) multi-band subscriber family, APX(TM), (http://www.motorola.com/apx) portable and mobile radios -- enabling instant multi-agency interoperability for mission critical first responders. Motorola's 4th generation P25 subscriber is multi-band (700/800 MHz and VHF), communicates with current and future networks (FDMA and TDMA) and has integrated GPS.

Designed specifically for first responders by applying the science of High Velocity Human Factors (HVHF), (http://business.motorola.com/publicsafety/missioncritical/index.asp) the dual-sided portable radio has both an audio and data side providing optimal functionality and loud and clear audio in a compact rugged form factor, which amplifies public safety officials' ability to keep their communities safer than ever before.

Part of Motorola's MOTOA4(TM) portfolio, APX is the first multi-band radio to meet and exceed public safety specifications for mission critical communications and is 15 percent smaller and 50 percent louder than existing Motorola P25 radios. A custom-designed microphone on both the audio and data sides independently suppress most background noise, detects male and female voices and uses a digital vocoder to process and enhance the remaining speech after it is filtered from harsh background noise.

"Multi-agency communication is essential for mission critical operations. APX offers true interoperability and delivers advanced technologies and superior audio quality in one device allowing organizations to streamline the expense of installing, maintaining and operating multiple radios," said Bob Schassler, corporate vice president of Motorola's Radio Products and Solutions Group, Government and Commercial Markets - Americas. "APX radios are both backwards and forward compatible working in FDMA and TDMA, which is a testament to Motorola's commitment to P25 Phase 2."

    Interoperability on Demand

To protect the communities they serve, public safety officials' success relies on their ability to communicate across federal, state and local boundaries. Instead of requiring two radios to communicate in different agencies' respective frequencies, APX's multi-band capability allows first responders the freedom to seamlessly connect between multiple frequencies for better communications with agencies, improved mobility, officer safety and response time. APX will enable first responders to be better prepared for emergencies as it's designed to be second nature (http://www.motorola.com/secondnature) to them.

    Mission Critical Form Factor

Designed with input from public safety officials, social sciences, and on-site testing under severe physical conditions, the APX radio is rich with applications including integrated GPS, text messaging, intelligent lighting and user controlled radio profiles. The APX portable's slip-free T-Grip form factor with raised slanted knobs and buttons is made especially for gloved hands.

"Public safety agencies have been requesting interoperability and enhanced features from their two-way radios," said Jeff Vining, vice president, Gartner, Inc. "They require mission critical features to take them into the future."

    Future Ready Investment

APX two-way radios are backward and forward compatible working on both Motorola's FDMA and TDMA radio systems, which is a testament to Motorola's commitment to P25 Phase 2 and interoperability for first responders. When available, TDMA systems will double the voice capacity. APX radios will also support future applications including Bluetooth(R) as they become available.

Motorola will have a live demonstration of APX at APCO 2008, August 4-7 at the Kansas City Convention Center, Booth 1414. For more information please visit http://motorola.com/APX.

California Micro Devices Sells LED Driver Assets

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- California Micro Devices today announced that it has sold the assets related to its line of LED drivers for mobile handsets to a third party buyer for a cash payment of $1.3 million to CMD. The transaction includes existing products, products under development and related patents. Two engineers who had worked on this product line for CMD have also joined the buyer.

CMD expects to record a gain of approximately $1.1 million in the second quarter of its fiscal 2009 that was not reflected in its recent outlook for the quarter and to see a modest reduction in R&D expense going forward compared to what it would have otherwise been. That reduction has been reflected in its recent guidance.

ChoicePoint(R)'s MARI Introduces Enhanced Mortgage Fraud Tool: MARI Loan Fraud Alert Service Pro

RESTON, Va., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Mortgage Asset Research Institute (MARI(SM)), a ChoicePoint company, today announced the release of the MARI Loan Fraud Alert Service Pro (LFAS Pro). MARI LFAS Pro, with its patent pending technology, assists lenders in discovering fraudulent loan applications prior to funding through a combination of comparative loan application analysis and Identity Risk Management tools. Lenders will now have the ability to have a more comprehensive view of their loan portfolio, not previously available in the market.

MARI's original LFAS is a comparative loan tool that helps uncover patterns of common mortgage fraud schemes during origination. LFAS Pro takes that process one step further, providing valuable insight into both the identity of applicants and information about industry professionals that comprise the loan transaction, such as the mortgage broker, appraiser and closing attorney. LFAS combines the industry-leading MIDEX credentialing database with ChoicePoint's Identity Verification tools (widely used in the banking industry for account openings) and adds the advanced capabilities of a comparative analysis loan tool.

"We are extremely excited about LFAS Pro for lenders since many common fraud schemes such as chunking, flipping and multiple closings would be much more evident to lenders in pre-funding," said Tom Chmielewski, vice president, ChoicePoint Financial Services. "Lenders now have a tool that helps them ensure the loans they are about to make are not tainted by fraudulent activity and detect patterns indicative of fraud within their loan pipeline and other contributed lender pipelines."

MARI's enhanced mortgage fraud solution provides a single view into industry-contributed loan transactions through an intuitive user interface. The transparency provided by LFAS Pro helps identify hidden patterns of fraudulent loan schemes perpetrated by applicants, industry insiders and their co-conspirators. By helping identify risk at the earliest stages, lenders can improve overall loan quality, reducing loan processing costs and increasing loan profitability as a result.

LFAS Pro integrates several components of an effective Identity Risk Management program that help determine if a loan transaction may expose a lender to risk by combining services for:

-- Identity Verification: ChoicePoint's Identity Verification Service helps authenticate and verify the identity of a borrower, and determine if a borrower is using synthetic aliases or Social Security numbers.

-- Licensing Verification: The Mortgage Industry Data Exchange (MIDEX(R)) - the industry standard for licensing and credentialing, and the only industry-contributed repository used for initial and ongoing verification and credentialing of professionals and companies - helps users quickly identify whether brokers, appraisers and realtors are appropriately licensed and if they have been licensed in a different profession or state.

-- Professional Credentialing Verification: MIDEX can also help discover adverse activity, public disciplinary and other derogatory information about professional third parties.

"According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation based on existing investigations, a staggering 80 percent(1) of all reported mortgage fraud losses are committed by industry insiders," said Merle Sharick, vice president and national manager of business development for MARI. "The mortgage industry is going through a dramatic transformation, as standards are tightened and processes are changed, so must the tools that detect and prevent fraud. By incorporating a holistic solution like LFAS, lenders can ensure that the loans they make have less risk involved, which contributes to more predictable revenue in the long run."
