Performance Technologies Delivers Core Signalling Solution With Network Upgrade to FINTEL
ROCHESTER, New York, August 26 /PRNewswire/ --
- Aggressive Three Week Deployment Schedule Brings Advanced,
International Signalling Capabilities to Fiji
Performance Technologies (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading developer of
communication platforms and systems, today announced that Fiji International
Telecommunications Limited (FINTEL) has implemented the company's SEGway(TM)
STP Signalling Solution with Point Code Emulation(TM) (PCE) technology to
meet its high-growth, international signalling requirements. FINTEL,
partially owned by Cable & Wireless, provides international
telecommunications service to and through the South Pacific Island of Fiji.
Driven by the increased signalling demands of worldwide VoIP and wireless
traffic, FINTEL undertook an aggressive expansion of its network capacity by
adding the advanced STP technology. In just three weeks the next generation
international signalling solution was engineered, installed, and placed into
service.
"We were very impressed with Performance Technologies' approach," said
Ioane Koroivuki, network manager at FINTEL. "They offered us an alternative
to costly upgrades of legacy systems; instead we invested in feature-rich,
next generation network gear that grows with our needs."
Using SEGway's PCE feature, FINTEL will have the ability to manipulate
SS7 nodes transparently, configuring new SS7 nodes or rolling out new
services efficiently, without interruption to service. By avoiding the need
to schedule ongoing network changes with all interconnect partners, the
operator is able to continually reconfigure its network for maximum
performance. Point Code Emulation gives network operators optimal control
over their networks, and is the most cost effective solution for expanding
networks.
"We are delighted to participate in FINTEL's timely network expansion as
they play a pivotal role in international telecommunications," said Cory
Grant, vice president of international sales for Performance Technologies.
"We continue to extend our reach in the Pacific Rim through this successful
business partnership that builds upon our 'Simply Smarter Signalling(TM)'
philosophy."
Performance Technologies offers a broad spectrum of signalling solutions
that enable telecommunications providers to deliver value added services that
quickly and cost efficiently drive new revenue opportunities, while
preserving and leveraging existing network infrastructure. The
next-generation SEGway SS7 Signalling Solutions are scalable and flexible and
offer full routing, address translation, and gateway screening, using
standard protocols including SS7-TDM, ATM, SIGTRAN-IP, allowing service
providers any-to-any connectivity.

AnalogicTech's High Current WLED Flash Drivers Offer Smaller Alternative to Xenon LampsHighly Flexible Converters Allow On-the-Fly Output Current Correction to Enhance Photo Quality
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Analogic Technologies, Inc. (AnalogicTech) , a developer of power management integrated circuits for communications, computing and consumer electronics devices, announced today two new additions to its growing family of high current White LED (WLED) flash drivers. Supporting either two WLEDs at up to 750 mA each or one WLED at up to 1.5A and coming in a compact 3x3-mm TDFN package, the AAT1271 and AAT1272 dual-channel boost converters are the first devices of their type in AnalogicTech's WLED driver product line to feature the company's proprietary AS(2)Cwire and industry-standard I(2)C interface respectively. The additional addressing capability of these two buses offers designers tremendous flexibility to modify drive current, and therefore WLED brightness. At the same time, the boost converters' high drive current and small 3x3-mm footprint delivers a highly attractive alternative to bulky xenon lamp solutions.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050829/SFTU089LOGO)
"Many digital still cameras and phone cameras today maximize photo quality by compensating for ambient light deviations," explains Phil Dewsbury, Product Line Director for Lighting Products at AnalogicTech. "By taking advantage of the additional control capabilities in the AS(2)Cwire and I(2)C bus, the AAT1271 and AAT1272 allow designers to modify flash brightness or movie mode brightness on-the-fly across multiple levels and thereby improve picture quality."
Increased Current Control
Both the AAT1271 and AAT1272 are high efficiency, high current boost converters designed for LED photo flash applications. Operating off a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range, the two new devices are targeted at single-cell Lithium-ion battery powered mobile systems. Both converters use a high 2 MHz switching frequency which helps reduce system footprint by allowing the use of smaller external inductors and capacitors. The two new converters can achieve up to 85% efficiency with 1uH inductors.
The AAT1271 and AAT1272 feature two channels capable of driving two high current WLEDs at up to 750mA each. Alternately, the two channels can be combined to drive a single WLED at up to 1.5A. The AAT1271 features AnalogicTech's proprietary single-wire AS(2)C interface, while the AAT1272 offers the industry-standard two-wire I(2)C interface.
Both converters supply separate flash enable and movie-mode enable inputs to control flash and movie-mode operation. Designers use a single, external resistor to set full-scale flash LED current. A default 7.3:1 flash-to-movie-mode current ratio is provided. Designers can adjust the movie-mode current level from the default setting to any of 15 other levels using either the AS(2)Cwire or I(2)C interface. The AAT1271 also adds a flash inhibit input that can be used in GSM mobile applications to reduce the flash current during PA transmission to avoid a system reset due to excessive battery droop in high battery current conditions.
Given their high drive current capability, both converters also feature input current limit capability and a true load disconnect switch that reduces supply current in shutdown to < 1uA.
The new converters also include a user-programmable flash safety timer. This function can be used to protect the flash LEDs from thermal damage in the event of a software failure by terminating the flash pulse regardless of the FL enable signal condition. Using the AS(2)C or I(2)C bus, the safety timer can be programmed across 16 different levels.
Price and Availability
Both devices are qualified across the -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C temperature range and come in a 3x3-mm 14-pin TDFN package. The AAT1271 and the AAT1272 sell for $1.49 in 1K quantities.

Linksys Helps Make Home Networking GreenerEco-Friendlier Packaging and ENERGY STAR Certified Power Adapters Help Set Standards for Home Networking Products
IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Linksys(R), a division of Cisco, the leading provider of VoIP, wireless and networking hardware for consumer and small business environments, announced today, enhanced efforts in helping to save resources and reduce waste. Linksys has begun rolling out eco-friendlier packaging for its consumer networking products, and it has received ENERGY STAR(R) certified ratings on power adapters included with more than thirty of its home networking products.
"We have taken the most important steps in our continuing efforts to help become a more green company: changing packaging and reducing the energy used by our products," said, Marna Bullard, vice president of world wide marketing. "Linksys is conscious of the environment, actively participating in waste take-back programs and reducing hazardous wastes in our products. We are now redoubling our efforts with the new packaging and have received ENERGY STAR ratings on select routers, modems, gateways and adapters."
What is so "green" about the packaging?
1. Linksys has removed the "sleeve" (outer packaging that contains all the
printing and information about the product). Instead of having a
"sleeve," Linksys plans to print all the information on the box itself,
eliminating the extra "sleeve" material.
2. Linksys also reduced the size of the box its products come in.
3. All packaging and internal documents are printed on paper that is made
from 80% recycled content and we now use vegetable and soy inks.
4. Internal packaging is transitioning to more recyclable material.
5. The use of plastic bags is being eliminated where possible.
The new eco-friendlier packaging and materials provides more than 40% reduction in waste materials compared to the previously offered packaging. Linksys believes this is estimated to be equal to the following based on the sources we quote:
-- Saving 790 acres of pine or fir forest trees (per year)*
- 1.3 million trees planted in a 5 ft by 5 ft space configuration**
-- Taking 3,000 cars off the road (per year)*
The eco-friendlier packaging will be available this month throughout select retailers such as Best Buy, Circuit City and Wal-Mart and online retailers on the Wireless-N Routers (skus: WRT310N, WRT160N, WRT610N, WRT110, WRT54GS).
Bullard said, "This change is driven by our responsibility to better how we manage the environmental impact of our products and operations. Our overall use of paper is significantly less than what we were using but the cost of using recyclable products and bio-degradable inks is about the same costs as what we were using. We hope our efforts will encourage other companies to take a look at their packaging and do what they can to reduce resource usage and waste."
How does Linksys comply with Energy Saving Standards?
Linksys received ENERGY STAR certification on more than thirty of its consumer networking products including wired and wireless routers, gateways, game adapters and modems. This means these products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy.
The energy consumed by the power adapters has been cut almost in half. For example, a router used 4.6 watts of power and a new router with one of the ENERGY STAR certified power adapters can use as little as 2.6 watts of power.**** This equates to a power reduction estimation between 14MW and 17MW (based on Linksys' top 10 shipping product volume, which is approximately 11,000,000 units). That is enough power to light 14,000 houses for one full day.***
The ENERGY STAR certified products will be rolling out this month. Customers should look for the ENERGY STAR logo on the packaging of the products.
Green going forward
Linksys will continue to evaluate its product lines to implement better practices for our environment through design, materials and logistics.

télécommunications internationales >>, a déclaré Cory Grant, vice-président

Alison Sweeney Auctions Off Celebrity Jeans in Times Square for CharityClothes Off Our Back Partners With GE Profile(TM) to Launch Its New SmartDispense(TM) Frontload Washer and Dryer
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Alison Sweeney, "The Biggest Loser" host and 15-year "Days of our Lives" actress, kicks off the High Profile Pair in the Square auction of jeans worn and donated by celebrities. The auction, which benefits the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation, begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Military Island at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue at 44th Street. In celebration, Times Square will be decorated with hundreds of jeans and shirts hanging like laundry from clotheslines above the streets.
For those unable to attend the event, the celebrity jeans will be available for auction at http://www.clothesoffourback.org/ immediately following the live auction, with all proceeds benefiting the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation. With more than 50 pair of celebrity jeans available for auction online, some include Ryan Seacrest, Miley Cyrus, Nick Lachey, Ashlee Simpson, Lauren Conrad, Rachael Ray, Minnie Driver, Debra Messing , Brittany Snow, Terrence Howard, Forest Whitaker and the cast of "How I Met Your Mother" (Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders). In addition, a sweepstakes for a washer and dryer will be held online at http://www.washingmyjeans.com/
As a busy TV actress and mom, Alison Sweeney treasures her free time at home. "With a 3-year-old and a new baby on the way, laundry is the last thing I want to worry about; so of course I was excited that the new GE Profile set holds six months of detergent and washes 17 pair of jeans in one load," said Sweeney. "But more importantly, I'm glad to be part of this event today auctioning 17 pairs of celebrity jeans to benefit charity. In fact, I'm donating one of my favorite pair of jeans that I've worn to several movie premieres today," said Sweeney.
The event marks the launch of the GE Profile frontload washer and dryer boasting the first-ever SmartDispense laundry technology that holds up to six months of detergent and fabric softener and dispenses just the right amount -- saving loads of time. In fact, if every household in New York City had a Profile frontload pair, the city could wash the entire nation's jeans in just 34 days.
"With the popularity of jeans today, we're excited to offer a revolutionary frontload washer and dryer that can clean 4,420 jeans before needing a refill," says Lynn Pendergrass, Vice President of GE Consumer and Industrial. "The secret is the SmartDispense technology. It knows exactly how much detergent to dispense so your clothes come out perfect without wasting detergent or water. It's a win-win situation for Americans and the environment."
This innovative washer and dryer features state-of-the-art clothes care with advanced technology exclusive to GE Profile, including:
-- SmartDispense(TM) Technology pedestal system that holds up to 6 months of detergent and fabric softener then dispenses just the right amount based on soil level, load size, water hardness and fabric type
-- Stain Inspector(TM) technology that recognizes and treats more than 40 different tough stains
-- Reverse Tumble and DuoDry(TM) System that provides exceptional results in a fraction of the time of traditional models
-- CleanSpeak(TM) communication where the washer electronically tells the dryer what items to expect, so you'll have fewer interruptions and extra time to enjoy your life

Annual Study From Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com Reveals Tale of Two Job Markets- Survey Shows Both Employees and Employers Face Challenges in Tough Economy -Key Findings:- More than half of employers said it is challenging to find skilled professionals today; Generation Y workers are the most difficult to recruit.- Closely mirroring responses from employers, more than half of workers said it is challenging to find a job today.- Nearly two-thirds of workers are more likely to try to negotiate a better compensation package today than last year.- A lack of qualified workers and the higher cost of gas/commuting were among the top factors impacting companies' ability to recruit skilled labor.- Many employers are likely to offer reduced work schedules, "bridge" jobs and consulting arrangements as an alternative to retirement.- The time to fill open positions ranges from four to 14 weeks, with senior-level roles demanding the most time.- Six-in-10 employers estimate at least a quarter of applicants who contact them are not qualified.
MENLO PARK, Calif. and CHICAGO, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- While many workers are having a tough time finding suitable employment in today's uncertain economy, companies also face challenges finding highly skilled people. According to the fourth annual Employment Dynamics and Growth Expectations (EDGE) Report by Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com, employees rated the level of challenge in finding a job at 3.56 on a one-to-five sliding scale; similarly, employers rated the level of challenge in finding qualified candidates at 3.47.
"A dual hiring environment seems to be taking shape," said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International. "Job seekers in some fields are competing aggressively for open positions, giving employers the edge in those segments of the hiring market. At the same time, however, companies continue to face a shortage of highly skilled professionals in fields such as technology and accounting. These in-demand workers may not be willing to leave secure positions unless firms extend very attractive job offers."
The Employment Dynamics and Growth Expectations (EDGE) Report is an annual survey on employment and compensation trends by Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com. The survey includes responses from more than 500 hiring managers and 500 workers, and was conducted from May 7 to June 1, 2008 by International Communications Research in Media, Pa. It was designed to compare the perspectives of hiring managers and workers on the state of the current employment market.
The Challenge of Recruiting Qualified Staff
The shortage of qualified workers has grown more acute, with 59 percent of hiring managers citing it as their primary recruiting challenge, up from 52 percent in 2007. Six out of 10 employers estimate that at least a quarter of the applicants who contact them are not qualified. Thirty-one percent report more than half of applicants are not qualified.
Complicating the task of finding qualified talent are spiraling energy costs, hiring managers said. Twenty-nine percent said the rise in fuel prices and commuting expenses has negatively impacted their ability to attract skilled candidates who may want to limit their travel distance to and from the office.
As employers manage through these challenges, recruiting has become increasingly time consuming, taking anywhere from four weeks to 14 weeks to fill open positions. More than half of hiring managers (56 percent) said Generation Y employees (born between 1979 and 1999) are the most difficult to recruit, perhaps because of high expectations around pay, career advancement, flexible schedules and overall work environment.
The Compensation Question
When they find qualified professionals, firms appear anxious to win them over. Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of hiring managers said they are willing to negotiate compensation for top candidates; 19 percent are very willing.
Despite not feeling overly confident in job prospects, professionals are increasingly inclined to negotiate better compensation levels as fuel, food, healthcare and other expenses grow. Sixty-three percent said they are more likely to try to negotiate a better compensation package with a new employer compared to 12 months ago. This contrasts with 58 percent in 2007.
"Businesses are operating on leaner resources and are competing to secure the intellectual capital that will drive productivity and new revenue streams. Companies are also replacing lower-performing employees to strengthen their talent bench to prepare for a time when the economy shifts into higher gear," said Matt Ferguson, CEO of CareerBuilder.com. "Recruiting highly skilled professionals may require a greater financial commitment or special perks that provide a more attractive work environment, however. Nearly three-quarters of employees surveyed said the availability of flexible schedules may cause them to choose one job over another."
Holding on to Top Performers
While employee retention may be less of a concern in a tougher economy, many employers have nonetheless taken measures in the last 12 months to prevent good workers from leaving their organizations, including:
-- Allowing flexible work schedules -- 63 percent
-- Providing funding for additional training/certification -- 62 percent
-- Increasing salaries -- 56 percent
-- Instituting telecommuting options -- 29 percent
Companies also expressed an interest in retaining employees nearing retirement age to manage through the exodus of the baby boomers from the workforce. Forty-seven percent are likely to offer reduced work schedules as an alternative to retirement. Thirty-nine percent are likely to offer "bridge" jobs, while 37 percent are likely to offer consulting arrangements.
Survey Methodology
This survey was conducted by International Communications Research on behalf of Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com among more than 500 employers (employed full-time; not self employed; with at least some involvement in hiring decisions), and more than 500 employees (employed full- time; not self employed; with no involvement in hiring decisions) ages 18 and over within the United States between May 7 and June 1, 2008.

ESPOO, Finland, August 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia today unveiled the Nokia N79, the latest addition to the Nokia Nseries range that combines intelligent and customizable design with a fully-loaded multimedia computer. Behind its sleek exterior, the Nokia N79 is a technology powerhouse. It offers a full range of multimedia experiences including integrated navigation, music with FM transmitter, high-speed connectivity, superior web browsing, at least 10 pre-loaded N-Gage games and an advanced 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The Nokia N79 is expected to begin shipping in October 2008, with an estimated retail price of EUR 350, before taxes and subsidies.
"The Nokia N79 packs cutting-edge technology into a compact design - a characteristic of the iconic Nseries - that allows people to discover, create and share their passions with others," said Juha Kokkonen, Director, Nokia Nseries. "It has been designed for those who want a device that is as appealing as it is powerful and comes with interchangeable covers that have automatically matching screen themes. This balance of performance and style means that it is a powerful and defining step forward from the popular and very successful Nokia N72 and Nokia N73."
Perfect for the style conscious, the Nokia N79 comes with Xpress-on smart covers that are available in five cool colors: Light Sea Blue, Espresso Brown, Olive Green, White and Coral Red. A combination of three of these comes with each Nokia N79.
The convergence of photos, music and navigation in the Nokia N79 combines with high-speed 3.5G HSDPA and Wi-Fi to make it quick and easy to share experiences on websites, blogs or online communities.
Experience new discoveries
The innovative technology packed into this colorful offering means that accessing a rich pool of services to further enhance individual experiences is seamless. Log on to online communities like Friendster, Flickr or YouTube or click through to Nokia services such as the Nokia Music Store, N-Gage, Nokia Maps and Share on Ovi, an online service that enables consumers to share personal pictures and videos from their mobile devices.
The 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and video light captures sharp, clear images and video that can be edited immediately, without the need for a PC. Images can also be geotagged to specific locations. What's more, the Nokia N79 comes packaged with a 4 GB microSD memory card that makes it possible to store around 3,000 songs, approximately 2,500 pictures and up to four hours of DVD-quality video clips that can be organized by albums or tags and uploaded directly to Share on Ovi or third party services. The addition of a sliding lens cover helps protect the top-quality lens when not in use.
Nokia Maps makes it easy to explore and navigate new surroundings by accessing more than 15 million points of interest (POI). In-built A-GPS providing turn-by-turn navigation - for walking or driving - comes with a three month integrated license on the Nokia N79.
A Friendster widget will also be made available for the Nokia N79 via the WidSets service. This will allow people to browse Friendster friends' profiles, view and post shoutouts, upload pictures taken with their handset, and browse their own and friends' photo albums. All this enables more effective communication with friends while away from a computer using the Nokia N79. New users can even register for Friendster directly on their device via a link to Friendster's mobile site (m.friendster.com), create an account, and instantly begin participating in the Friendster global community.
To ensure each device is as distinctive as its user, customizable features are available at the Nokia Download! store, a one stop personalization shop, already embedded in Nokia Nseries devices. It lets consumers create a unique experience for themselves by offering easy access to a multitude of popular ringtones, branded entertainment content, the latest in mobile gaming and dynamic applications for personalizing mobile devices to the user's own preferences.

Autonomy's FRCP-Compliant Pan-Enterprise Search Selected "2008 Trendsetter" by KNWorld Magazine
CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN FRANCISCO, August 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autonomy Corporation plc , a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that its pan-enterprise search platform, Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL), has been selected by KMWorld magazine as a "2008 Trendsetter" for its ability to simultaneously meet an organization's litigation and knowledge management requirements. This has become a critical need as information officers, knowledge officers, and corporate librarians look for ways to manage their electronically stored information (ESI) in compliance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP). Autonomy's technology makes this possible by automating the retrieval, processing, and management of all information throughout a global organization, including text, data, voice and video, to find relevant information for litigation with auditable and repeatable results.
Hugh McKellar, KMWorld's editor in chief, said, "This year's edition has been compiled through briefings with vendors themselves, along with conversations with analysts, users and system integrators. Our mission selecting this year's products has been deceptively simple: select those that deliver robust customer value. We are proud to acknowledge Autonomy for its industry-leading pan-enterprise search platform."
Autonomy's IDOL performs conceptual and contextual analysis and probability matching on information to find the meaning within and the inter-relationships between and among disparate pieces of content. This unique approach allows global organizations to find and access the most pertinent content for business value or risk management, irrespective of languages, operating systems, and file types. By supporting more than 1,000 different data formats, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, located across 400 different content repositories, Autonomy can search all categories of information repositories in an organization, enabling companies to maintain compliance with FRCP. It is fault-tolerant using load balancing and mirroring, highly scalable, secure, and has sub-second performance on billions of files.
"We are honored to be recognized by KMWorld magazine," said Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "Autonomy's IDOL offers more than 500 advanced functionalities to process all forms of digital information based on a single platform. It is relied upon by thousands of public and private organizations across the globe to effectively manage and access their data."

AT&T U-verse Arrives in JacksonvilleJacksonville Customers Benefit From Advanced Technology, Compelling Features and Video Choice
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacksonville-area residents have a new -- and better -- choice for their television and communications services. AT&T Inc. today announced the launch of AT&T U-verse(SM) TV and AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet in the area.
AT&T U-verse brings together your TV, broadband and AT&T wireless services with unique features that provide a new level of integration, convenience and control. AT&T U-verse TV and High Speed Internet services are delivered over AT&T's advanced Internet Protocol (IP) network.
Customers can currently order AT&T U-verse services in various communities throughout Jacksonville. AT&T will make U-verse services available to more homes throughout the area on an ongoing basis.
"Cable has been the only game in town for too long. We know Jacksonville customers want a better choice to break free from cable, and AT&T U-verse TV is the answer," said Rob Bentley, AT&T vice president and general manager for the Southeast region. "We're offering an extensive channel lineup, unmatched features and the latest technology, all at a competitive price and great value. It's all about delivering a better TV experience."
AT&T is the only national service provider to offer a 100 percent IP-based television (IPTV) service. IP technology helps make AT&T U-verse TV one of the most dynamic and feature-rich services available today, with advanced capabilities that customers don't get from other providers and access to more than 45 High Definition (HD) channels.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer AT&T U-verse services to more Florida customers," said Marshall Criser III, AT&T Florida president. "Our customers have asked for more choices in television service and AT&T is providing that choice through an extensive channel lineup, innovative features and the exceptional value found in U-verse TV."
Where available, local AT&T U-verse customers can enjoy numerous TV benefits, including:
-- An attractive selection of TV packages. You can choose from a variety
of subscription options that feature up to 320 channels, including
digital music, local, movie and sports programming, as well as premium
Spanish-language and international packages. All packages include
HD-capable equipment, and most packages include an HD-capable digital
video recorder (DVR). (More receivers can be added for $5 each a
month.)
-- A Spanish-language package, Paquete Espanol, which features novelas,
movies, news, sports, children's programming, talk shows and more, for
$10 a month.
-- More HD channels than the major local cable providers, with an
extensive lineup of more than 45 HD channels. U-verse TV supports both
720p and 1080i formats. Access to HD service is $10 a month with any
U-verse TV package.
-- The ability to set your DVR from any location. With AT&T Yahoo! Web and
Mobile Remote Access to DVR, you can schedule recordings from any
Web-connected PC or compatible AT&T mobile phone (wireless service
charges apply) by using your AT&T High Speed Internet account.
-- The ability to record up to four programs at once using a DVR (up to
four standard definition programs or two HD and two standard definition
programs) -- another feature that is exclusive to AT&T U-verse TV. You
can store up to 37 hours of HD content or up to 133 hours of SD
content, which is more storage than cable providers' DVRs.
-- AT&T Online Photos from Flickr, which allows you to simply and
conveniently browse the photos you've uploaded to flickr.com and watch
slide shows on your U-verse TV screen from the comfort of your couch.
-- AT&T U-bar, which brings customizable weather, stock, sports and
traffic information to the U-verse TV screen, without interrupting the
current program. AT&T High Speed Internet subscribers can personalize
the U-bar from the AT&T portal to display weather at specific
locations, your personal stock portfolio and scores for your favorite
sports teams.
-- Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football, which allows you to track the progress
of your fantasy team -- including current team matchups and league
standings -- directly from your TV screen through the AT&T U-bar.
-- YELLOWPAGES.COM TV, for fast and easy searches to find local businesses
and other information via your TV screen.
-- AT&T Yahoo! Games, so you can now play your favorite online games --
including Sudoku, Solitaire, JT's Blocks, Mah-jongg Tiles and Chess --
on the TV screen.
-- Built-in Picture-in-Picture, which lets you channel-surf on any
television without leaving the program you're watching.
-- Fast channel-changing, reducing the delay experienced with other
digital video services.
-- A growing Video On Demand (VOD) library with one-touch access to movies
and events.
-- Advanced search to find upcoming linear or VOD programs by using the
title or an actor's name.
-- Easy-to-use parental controls to block live or recorded programs or
on-demand videos by specific channel or ratings.
-- Specially designed U-verse receivers. All U-verse receivers are
HD-capable and include universal remote controls with backlit buttons
and one-touch access to VOD, recorded TV and other popular U-verse
features.
AT&T U-verse offers multiple combinations of TV and Internet packages to customize your experience. U-verse TV offers five programming packages -- U100, U200, the popular U300 and U400 packages, plus U-family, a market-leading family-friendly programming option. Current AT&T U-verse TV pricing starts at $44 a month, depending on the selected programming package (taxes, fees and other monthly charges apply).
Professional installation is included for new U-verse TV customers, and you also get a 30-day money-back guarantee. Customers who order a qualifying programming package by phone through Sept. 20, 2008, are eligible to choose a free month of the U200, U300 or U400 package or a $50 cash-back redemption by gift check. Customers who order a qualifying TV package online will receive a free month of the TV package. Additional cash-back offers are available to qualifying customers who bundle Internet service.
AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet offers more bandwidth and faster available speeds to meet the needs of every consumer or small business broadband user, including four package options:
-- Max: Downstream speeds up to 10.0 Mbps, upstream speeds up to 1.5 Mbps
-- Elite: Downstream speeds up to 6.0 Mbps, upstream speeds up to 1.0 Mbps
-- Pro: Downstream speeds up to 3.0 Mbps, upstream speeds up to 1.0 Mbps
-- Express: Downstream speeds up to 1.5 Mbps, upstream speeds up to 1.0
Mbps
All AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet packages include wireless home or office networking at no extra cost, giving customers the freedom to access online photos, receive and send large data files, view streaming video and access other high-bandwidth applications from a wireless-enabled laptop or other device. Subscribers also receive virtually unlimited e-mail storage, powerful anti-virus and anti-spam software and access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi network with free unlimited connectivity at more than 17,000 hot spot locations.
AT&T is introducing U-verse services in Florida as a result of legislation supported by Representative Trey Traviesa and state Senator Mike Bennett that was signed into law by Governor Crist. The Consumer Choice Act of 2007, House Bill 529, provides an environment that encourages new video providers, such as AT&T, to invest in Florida to compete against incumbent cable providers.
AT&T is deploying next-generation AT&T U-verse services as part of its mission to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work, and do it better than anyone else. Through AT&T U-verse and the company's 100 percent IP platform, consumers will benefit from integrated AT&T services across the three screens they value most: the TV, the PC and the wireless phone.
