iFinix Corp. Files Equivalent SEC Form 8-K

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- iFinix Corp. (Pink Sheets: INIX), a provider of real-time financial information and services to active traders and to the securities industry, announced today it has filed the equivalent of the SEC Form 8-K on Pink Sheets.

Resulting from communications which we recently had with the SEC, during which iFinix was advised by the SEC that it could not file its completed 8K with the SEC due to the fact that iFinix is not as yet a reporting company. We were advised that in lieu of filing an 8-K with the SEC it would be in our best interest to post our 8-K information on Pink Sheets.

The filing can be reviewed at http://pinksheets.com/pink/quote/quote.jsp?symbol=INIX

iFinix CEO Benhope Munroe stated, "Although I am disappointed that the SEC advised us that we cannot formally file the 8-K with the SEC, I am still very pleased about the recent progress of the company. iFinix has taken great strides in the last few months by completing the acquisition of ProActive Futures, a company with a three year history of fully audited revenues and profits, in the fast growing commodities and futures industry. ProActive Futures is the basis for what we believe can be the foundation of exponential growth for iFinix.

"Additionally, ProActive Futures is currently in negotiations to acquire a trading group which could result in revenue growth far beyond our original expectations from when we first acquired ProActive Futures."

Lebanon and Hanover, New Hampshire Residents and Visitors to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center to Benefit from Verizon Wireless Network ExpansionInvesting to Stay Ahead of Growing Demand for Wireless Voice, Multimedia and Internet Access

LEBANON, N.H., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Grafton County, Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site. The new site increases wireless voice and data coverage and capacity along Route 120 in Lebanon and Hanover, New Hampshire. The site also provides coverage in and around the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $45 billion since it was formed to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services like BroadbandAccess and V CAST. Regionally the company has invested over $2.2 billion into its New England network, including over $100 million during the first six months of 2008. As a result of these investments, every Verizon Wireless cell site in New England provides wireless broadband connectivity.

"We've always believed that even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said director for Network Systems Performance for Verizon Wireless, Richard Enright. "We continue to aggressively invest into our wireless networks across New England to increase coverage and capacity for our customers."

BroadbandAccess offers computer users the nation's most reliable high- speed wireless mobile broadband network, operating at average upload speeds between 500 and 800 kbps, and download speeds between 600 kbps and 1.4 mbps over Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Revision A network. V CAST brings video clips of TV shows, music on demand and other multimedia services to wireless phones.

Strong demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the second quarter of 2008 as the company added 1.5 million net new customers and, for the fifteenth consecutive quarter, reported the lowest customer turnover (highest customer loyalty) rate in the wireless industry.

The company's 'nation's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country who inspired the "can you hear me now" national advertising campaign. Nationally, these test men and women drive nearly 100 specially equipped vehicles almost 1,000,000 miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high- population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

About Verizon Wireless Verizon Wireless operates the nation's most reliable wireless voice and data network, serving 68.7 million customers. Headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J., with 70,000 employees nationwide, Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone (NYSE and LSE: VOD). Dimension Data Survey Shows 30% of IT Users and Decision Makers Report 'Frequent' System Crashes and Slow-Moving SoftwareProblems result in 3 workdays down the drain per year; Issues compounded by ill-defined remediation processes and failure to calculate ROI

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Frozen screens, eternal hourglasses and a litany of error messages: According to research released today by Dimension Data, a $3.8 billion leading IT solutions and services provider, they're common frustrations -- with 30% of end-users and IT decision makers (ITDMs) bemoaning 'frequent' computer crashes and sluggish software. According to the company's Network Performance Frustration Research Report, more than half of all users and ITDMs encounter these issues at least 'occasionally,' which can negatively impact everything from worker productivity to employee satisfaction to the bottom line. These issues are also causing users to lose roughly three workdays per year -- time spent waiting for their networks to pick up the pace.

The report contains responses from 267 ITDMs responsible for network management and 957 IT users across North America, Europe, Australia, Central and Latin America, the Far East, Middle East and Africa. Results indicated that, although the above issues are no doubt detrimental, worse yet, their effects are often overlooked. More than 20% of the ITDMs surveyed don't take network performance into account when calculating return on investment (ROI); in fact, 23% don't calculate ROI on network investments at all.

"Without the ability to look at ROI, a company leaves itself open to losses and costs that cannot be quantified," said Gary Middleton, business development manager for Network Integration at Dimension Data. "What's more, the ROI business case for performance-improving technology is both compelling and easy to prove -- with a typical payback period as low as seven months."

The report indicated other worrisome trends:

-- Ill-defined processes -- Just under a third of IT departments have complete, defined processes for handling network performance issues.

-- Worth the money? -- 48% of ITDMs do not consider network infrastructure a 'continuous budget spend' -- and almost one in five see it as a 'non-essential expense.'

-- Problems today, problems tomorrow -- Only half of ITDMs think their networks are already future-proofed.

-- Tick, tock -- The average IT user wastes roughly two hours per month on network-induced delays. Top gripes for users were slow-running software, while ITDMs complained most frequently about system crashes.

-- Biggest Bottlenecks -- The biggest culprits include network account log-in delays, which cause IT users to lose roughly 35 minutes per month, e-mail delays (25 min/month) and file transfer delays (23 min/month).

"If employees are -- even momentarily -- unable to access a certain application or technology, they are apt to avoid using it altogether," Middleton said. "Not only is the original investment negated, but users are unable to enjoy any productivity benefits that the technology was supposed to give. And while lost employee productivity is a substantial drain on resources, it can be mitigated by implementing defined processes and making strategic network investments."

CTIA and NeuStar Commemorate Fifth Anniversary of Common Short Codes with Three 'Pioneer' Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CTIA -- The Wireless Association (R) (CSC Administrator) and NeuStar, Inc. (CSC Registry) celebrate the five-year anniversary of the U.S. Common Short Code (CSC) program today by presenting the third annual "CSC Pioneer" award to three innovative companies -- all of which have experienced exceptional growth in leased CSCs over the past year. Special recognition is given to repeat winner HipCricket, the leader in leased short codes with 358 active codes and annual growth of 126 percent through its work with broadcasters and brands.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080310/NEUSTARLOGO )

CSCs catalyzed the launch of the mobile marketing and advertising industry and are the primary mobile direct response method in use in the U.S. today. CSCs are short five and six-digit numbers that mobile phone users can use to send and receive text and multimedia messages using the messaging capabilities that come standard with virtually every handset made today. CSCs are accessible to more than 95 percent of mobile phone users, and provide marketers the greatest opportunity for reach when compared to other marketing mediums. This is because CSCs are "common" and work across mobile service providers -- meaning brands can reach mobile subscribers regardless of what mobile provider or what type of mobile device the subscriber has.

Winners of the 2008 Pioneer Awards are:

-- Applications provider: Repeat winner HipCricket Inc., a Kirkland, Washington, based marketer that drives new revenue and customer loyalty for broadcast stations and consumer brands through strategic and measurable mobile marketing interactivity. HipCricket has delivered successful campaigns for customers including Clear Channel Radio, Premiere Radio Networks, Sandusky Broadcasting, NBC, Coca Cola, Staples, Hershey's and Jameson.

-- Aggregator: OpenMarket Inc., a Seattle-based provider of mobile messaging and financial payment processing systems for direct-to-consumer (D2C) mobile commerce; and

-- New Customer: Philadelphia-based M3 Mobile Marketing, a provider of mobile technology used to communicate with customers of large companies in order to raise brand awareness, drive revenue and stimulate greater return on advertising. M3 Mobile Marketing creates and integrates brand-specific mobile advertising campaigns and leverages its technology to execute and support them.

"These three companies have shown true innovation and leadership in taking the mobile marketing revolution to the next level," said Steve Largent, president and CEO of CTIA. "They are clearly expanding the market for CSCs by demonstrating to new clients the marketing power of CSCs to create new business opportunities." The Pioneer awards are being presented at 12:30PM PDT, Wednesday, September 10th immediately before the "Marketing - The Mobile Channel" session in Room 2008 at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008.

The first CSC was leased in October 2003, and since then, the CSC business has continued to enjoy phenomenal growth. In its second quarter ending June 30, 2008, the CSCA (http://www.usshortcodes.com/), saw the quantity of common short codes under management grow to more than 3,100, a 28% growth from the same quarter last year and a 10% increase from the first quarter ending in March.

"The jump in demand for CSCs is coming from a variety of sectors," said Diane Strahan, NeuStar vice president of Mobile Services, "including retail, entertainment, government, political campaigns and non profits. Advertisers are increasingly shifting their spending from conventional venues to capture the attention of the mobile customer."

Optimum Voice Again Receives Top Honors in J.D. Power and Associates Residential Regional Telephone Customer Satisfaction StudyOptimum Voice Named Top Residential Phone Product in Cablevision's Service Area for Second Year in a Row, in Comprehensive Study Focused on Performance, Reliability, Customer Service, Billing and Other Key Attributes

BETHPAGE, N.Y., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp., today announced that its Optimum Voice digital voice-over-cable service won top honors in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Residential Regional Telephone Customer Satisfaction Study(SM). In the comprehensive study, which ranks residential phone providers based on customer satisfaction across a wide range of product attributes like performance and reliability, customer service, billing and cost, Optimum Voice was named the highest ranking residential phone service in the Eastern Region for 2008.

In the 2007 J.D. Power and Associates' study, Optimum Voice received the highest ranking in residential telephone customer satisfaction in the Mid-Atlantic region. Last month, Optimum Voice was named the top voice-over-IP service for the fourth year in a row in PC Magazine's annual Readers' Survey, while winning a fourth straight Readers' Choice Award.

"Less than five years after the introduction of Optimum Voice across Cablevision's service area, our residential phone service has been embraced in more than 37 percent of the homes passed by our fiber optic network, and has continued to receive awards and rave reviews from the most important constituency of all -- our customers," said Joe Varello, Cablevision's vice president of digital voice product management. "We wanted Optimum Voice to completely redefine expectations for how good, functional and valuable a phone service could be, with unlimited calling and a great array of included features -- and without the extra fees and hidden charges consumers had come to expect from the phone company -- which makes today's recognition from a firm as respected as J.D. Power and Associates particularly meaningful."

Cablevision offers residential customers up to four lines of Optimum Voice, up to 12 lines for small and medium-sized business customers, all without the contracts or hidden add-on fees that are common among old-line phone companies.

Optimum Voice is available exclusively to Optimum Online(R) high-speed Internet customers. The service includes unlimited calling across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, and a superior array of advanced features like enhanced voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, caller ID blocking (*67), call return (*69), three-way calling and call forwarding, free directory assistance (411), VIP ringing, find me, caller ID on call waiting, busy redial, anonymous calling and anonymous call blocking -- all at no additional cost. The service's "My Optimum Voice" web portal allows customers to easily activate account features, listen to voicemail messages through any Web browser, review and sort calling history and manage other settings.

Optimum Voice provides the security of enhanced 911 access (E-911) for every customer and provides a local number portability option, so new customers who switch from other telephone companies can keep their existing phone number. Optimum Voice service is carried over Cablevision's fiber optic network, not the public Internet, and offers customers a highly reliable voice service with superior value.

For customers who make international calls, Cablevision offers an innovative flat-rate international calling plan, Optimum Voice World Call, giving customers up to 250 minutes per month of calling anywhere in the world from their Optimum Voice phone, including up to 30 minutes of calls to Cuba, for a flat monthly fee of $19.95, delivering more value to customers than any other international calling plan.

/C O R R E C T I O N -- Hotwire.com/In the news release, "Hotwire.com Keeps Travelers in the Know During Shoulder Season," issued earlier today by Hotwire.com over PR Newswire, we are advised by the company that the URL in the fourth sentence of the second bullet point should read as "http://www.hotwire.com/destination/travel-value-index2.jsp" rather than "http://www.travel-ticker.com/" as originally issued inadvertently. The complete, corrected release follows:Hotwire.com Keeps Travelers in the Know During Shoulder SeasonHotwire Shows How Consumers Can Save Money after the Summer Rush

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Just back from your summer vacation, but feel ready for another one? According to Hotwire.com(R), a leading discount travel site, consumers can get the best bang for their travel dollars during the off-peak shoulder season when travel demand typically declines and the travel industry is trying to fill empty rooms, flights and cars. Shoulder season runs from September through November, between the peak summer season and winter holidays, when the weather is still good and travelers can score real bargains.

"Shoulder season is a great time to beat the crowds and high rates at many popular destinations," said Clem Bason, vice president and travel expert at Hotwire(R), a leading discount travel site. "There's no need for travelers to spend half their vacation waiting in line, and pay high season rates. Traveling during shoulder season is a relaxing and great way to stretch your vacation dollars. Take a getaway this Fall before prices start rising towards the holidays."

For consumers wanting to book a shoulder season escape, Clem offers the following tips:

-- Enjoy warm weather destinations. Resort destinations, especially those focused on families, generally see slower demand just after the summer season. Great deals can be found in Orlando, Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix can also be good. -- Try mid-sized cities. The biggest cities will be hosting conventions and it may be harder to score a deal when business travelers are in town. But mid-sized gems like Dallas, Orlando and Denver have a lot to offer. Check out the Hotwire Travel Value Index http://www.hotwire.com/destination/travel-value-index2.jsp for a list of some mid-sized cities that are a great value year-round. -- Check out markets with an excess of new hotels. Cities like Washington DC, Las Vegas and San Diego are expected to remain inexpensive for the remainder of 2008. Fewer conventions are planned in these markets during the coming months and there are empty rooms to fill in many of the new hotels. -- Hit the road. After Labor Day, car rental rates typically fall because companies have excess summer inventory to unload. In fact, car rental rates on Hotwire.com are as low as $13.95 a day.

Below are examples of hotel deals available on Hotwire during the shoulder season:

$79 per night - 4-star beachfront resort hotel, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico $89 per night - 4-star beachfront, resort-style condo, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico $94 per night - 3.5-star hotel, Miami - Central South Beach $64 per night - 4-star resort, North Scottsdale $66 per night - 4-star hotel, North Fort Lauderdale $86 per night - 3.5-star resort, Bahamas - Nassau and Paradise Island $64 per night - 4-star hotel, Las Vegas near Strip East $69 per night - 4 star hotel, Orlando About Hotwire.com

Verizon Offers Customers Tips to Prepare for Hurricane Ike's ArrivalAs Verizon Preps Facilities, Customers Should Run Check Lists, Too

BAYTOWN, Texas, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon teams across central and southern Texas are running check lists of the many tasks required to prepare the Verizon telecommunications network for the challenges of Hurricane Ike, whether wind, rain or flooding. Consumers can also prepare for possible impacts as well.

"The Verizon network is a massive complex of assets, from buildings to transmission facilities to vehicles and people," said Trinidad Aguirre, senior vice president and general manager for Verizon's Central region. "We've learned over the past 100-plus years what we need to do to minimize the impact of Mother Nature on our network so that service is maintained and we can respond quickly and effectively when problems do develop."

According to Aguirre, Verizon's regional control center has begun preparing for possible flooding, power outages and downed trees and wires.

"Verizon's phone service is renowned for its reliability," he said. "When other services go down, the Verizon-powered landline phone works. That's what we work to assure."

For example, sandbags are being readied where needed and portable equipment like trucks and specialized gear is being moved from low-lying areas where possible. Building sump pumps are being tested, and drains and gutters cleared.

The telecommunications network requires power. If commercial power goes out, back-up batteries and generators embedded in company central offices or field facilities keep it flowing so customers' phones ring even when the lights go out. Fuel tanks for the generators, vehicles and other equipment are being topped off. Portable generators are being tested and fueled as well.

Verizon teams are reviewing the inventory of supplies like utility poles, cable and other equipment and are planning for staffing of essential positions.

"When threatening weather approaches, it's our job to batten down," Aguirre said. "Verizon was ready for Dolly and Gustav, and we'll be ready for Ike as well."

    Customer Check List

Electric power is often a key issue for customers, as well. Verizon suggests the following:

-- If you have a cordless phone, get an inexpensive corded phone that plugs directly into the wall. If the power goes out, cordless phones won't work even though the line is still active. Corded phones will work. In addition, answering machines won't work, but Verizon voice mail service - which is powered by the network - will work and can serve as a convenient family message board.

-- Make contact lists and create communications plans for loved ones before the storm comes. If you are evacuated or are otherwise unreachable, make plans to communicate via wireless calling, text messaging, the Internet or other alternatives available at relocation sites.

-- Charge up all battery-powered devices you might be able to use, from wireless phones and PDAs to laptop computers, flashlights and radios. And check your supply of batteries.

-- Check your local emergency-readiness authorities for their recommendations and advisories about the situation in your area. Be sure to check back with them if things get worse.

-- If you live in a flood-prone area, protect sensitive equipment like computers and TVs by getting them as high above ground as you can so when service comes back up, you'll be back in business quickly.

Verizon Communications Inc. , headquartered in New York, is a leader in delivering broadband and other wireline and wireless communication innovations to mass market, business, government and wholesale customers. Verizon Wireless operates America's most reliable wireless network, serving nearly 69 million customers nationwide. Verizon's Wireline operations include Verizon Business, which delivers innovative and seamless business solutions to customers around the world, and Verizon Telecom, which brings customers the benefits of converged communications, information and entertainment services over the nation's most advanced fiber-optic network. QVC(R) Debuts New Mobile ServicesQVC Customers Can Now Complete An Entire Shopping Transaction, Text For Product Information And/Or Add Items To Their Wish List Using Their Mobile DevicesNew Services Include The Launch Of QVC's Mobile Web Site: m.QVC.com

WEST CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- QVC, Inc., announced today the customer rollout of a suite of mobile services, including "QVC Text Ordering," a new service that enables its customers to use text messages to find and buy products sold on QVC. The launch of these services also marks the unveiling of QVC's new mobile Web site: m.QVC.com, where customers can browse QVC product and show information, as well as make purchases. QVC's mobile services have been in limited availability since July 2008.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20070923/NESU001LOGO )

"With the launch of QVC's mobile services, we're continuing to deliver our customers an enhanced shopping experience. They can now virtually shop QVC anywhere, at any time," said QVC's Senior Vice President of Platforms and Broadcast Technology Bob Myers. "Once registered with the service, our customers can purchase an item in just two text messages, making shopping even more fast and convenient than ever."

QVC Text Ordering - Make Purchases Anywhere, Anytime, From Any Mobile Device

In just three easy steps, QVC customers can complete registration for QVC Text Ordering. Those customers interested in accessing the service should text the words "JOIN" and their QVC customer number or e-mail address on file to 78246 ("QVCGO"). Once this information has been sent, the customer will receive a text message back from QVC to verify the account. After verification, QVC will send the customer back a final text message, informing the customer that he/she is now ready to place an order.

Purchasing an item is just as simple: customers interested in purchasing an item should send a text message to 78246 ("QVCGO") with the QVC item number (e.g. "A17025"). QVC will then send back a text message confirming the item number, its price and a request for verification. If the account is valid, QVC will send back a text message confirming the order and providing an estimated delivery date.

Standard text messaging rates apply to all QVC mobile text services. There are no additional premium charges imposed by QVC for usage of the service.

Keyword Texts Provide Information in an Instant, Add Items to Wish Lists

Customers can also use select keywords to expedite their purchase. For example, customers can text "TSV" to 78246 ("QVCGO") to order the Today's Special Value(R), an item offered at an exceptionally low price -- good for that given day, until 11:59 p.m. (ET), unless it sells out sooner. Other keywords available include "OTO" for QVC's One Time Only(R) item (an item offered at an exceptionally low price, for a limited amount of time, after the Today's Special Value(R) sells out) or "ONAIR" to purchase the item currently featured on the live broadcast.

Updating a wish list has also been simplified with QVC's new mobile services. Customers can simply text message various keywords to have items added to their wish list. These keywords include: "WISH TSV" (to add the Today's Special Value(R)), "WISH ONAIR" (to add the item currently being featured on the live broadcast) and "WISH Item Number" (e.g. WISH A17025) (to order the item of his/her choice).

QVC Mobile Web site Makes Shopping on the Go Easier, Faster

With the unveiling of these new mobile offerings, QVC is also concurrently launching its mobile Web site, m.QVC.com. "Our new mobile Web site, m.QVC.com, allows our customers to access information in one convenient place, and the site's mobile design makes searching fast," said Myers.

At m.QVC.com, customers can find out the Today's Special Value(R), items on-air, items "new today," etc. They can also view QVC's program guide, search for products by item number or make a purchase. Those interested in accessing the site should simply open an Internet browser on his/her mobile device and enter in the URL "m.QVC.com" (mobile.QVC.com also works). Once the connection is made, the QVC Mobile Web page will be displayed. The customer can then scroll through the various options.

Customers interested in ordering an item with multiple attributes (e.g. size, color) can do so via m.QVC.com. QVC is working to add this feature to QVC Text Ordering in the near future. It also plans to extend this feature to the Wish List application. Additionally, customers will be able to sign-up to receive text alerts for information pertaining to order and shipping confirmations, Today's Special Value(R), One Time Only(R) items and special promotions.

AVT, Inc. Announces Guaranteed Monthly Payments on Digital Signage Based Vending Systems

CORONA, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AVT, Inc. (formerly Automated Vending Technologies) (Pink Sheets: AVTC), announced today that it has formed a joint venture with UDM (United Digital Media), located in Palm Springs, Ca., to guarantee monthly payments to vending operators who have purchased and placed AVT digital signage equipped vending systems at qualified locations.

"Those deploying an AVT manufactured vending system equipped with AVT's Digital Advertising Signage Equipment can each be eligible to be part of the AVTi Media Network, which involves payments starting at $50 per machine per month," states AVT founder Shannon Illingworth. "We are so confident that our PC based advertising vending systems will increase the awareness and marketing ability of products, services and branding that AVT and our advertising partners are willing to prove it by paying for it."

Curtis Pickering, CEO of United Digital Media, confirms the merits of the joint venture with AVT to offer guaranteed payments to qualified vending operators, saying that "the joint venture between AVT and UDM is unique because we have merged specific core digital signage attributes into the deployment of a nationwide network of close-up and personal message centers called vending machines!" He stressed that "as the network grows and reaches critical mass, national advertisers will now be able to reach measured specific demographics on a personal level, something that has been difficult to do with any real success." He concluded by stating that "this defines a new type of media marketing and should prove to be an exciting and effective vertical within the out of home advertising industry."

The joint venture taps into current AVT server hardware and UDM's mission critical application software which controls, updates and changes format as needed on any DSE (Digital Signage Equipped) vending systems at the push of a few keystrokes. This software is capable of administrating control from a PC located anywhere a connection to the internet can be made.

"This joint venture and solidification of core competencies between AVT and UDM further characterizes the continued efforts and execution of AVT's dedicated management team to maintain a position in the vending machine industry as a competitive and innovative company in pursuit of originality, state-of-the art technology, and increased revenues," Mr. Illingworth said.

    ABOUT AVT:

(Pink Sheets: AVTC) is a vending solutions provider based in Corona, California that has developed several significant vending machine technologies that yield a more efficient and reliable yet technically advanced system. More TV Choice and Competition Near for Residents of Millbury, Mass.Town Approves Video License for Verizon; Thousands More Households Soon Can Get FiOS TV

MILLBURY, Mass., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Residents of Millbury are a major step closer to having another choice for their cable television services, thanks to a newly approved agreement authorizing Verizon to offer its FiOS TV service via the most advanced all-digital, fiber-optic network straight to customers' homes.

The Board of Selectmen in Millbury granted a cable franchise to Verizon Tuesday (Sept. 9), paving the way for video choice for thousands more Massachusetts households.

The board's vote brings to 79 the total number of Massachusetts communities where Verizon's FiOS TV is or will soon be available.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring FiOS TV to residents in Millbury," said Donna Cupelo, Verizon region president for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. "Since the launch of FiOS TV in Massachusetts last year, we are continuing our efforts to meet the consumer demand for cable TV choice."

FiOS TV is the company's new fiber-optic television service, which offers a better-quality picture, more high-definition and on-demand programs, and more reliable service at competitive prices.

"As a result of this new franchise, consumers in Millbury will be able to choose their cable provider as easily as they choose their phone company," said Cupelo. "Competition drives innovation, value and service quality, and it puts the consumer in control."

Verizon is currently in negotiations with several other communities in Massachusetts to obtain additional franchises. For more information on the Verizon franchise process in the state, log on to http://www.verizon.com/ma.

Verizon research indicates 87 percent of Massachusetts residents favor more competition and choice for video services. Independent studies have shown that competition in the video market brings enormous benefits to consumers in the form of reduced prices, better packages and improved service.

Garmin Selects NAVTEQ for First Advertising Supported Real-Time Traffic DeliveryNAVTEQ Traffic Radio Data System (RDS) and the NAVTEQ Interactive Advertising Service Enable Ad-Supported Lifetime Traffic for Drivers

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- (CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008, NAVTEQ Booth #323) -- NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, announced today that Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , the global leader in satellite navigation, has selected NAVTEQ Traffic's RDS delivery service and the NAVTEQ interactive advertising service for the nuvi 755T, 765T and 775T and nuvi 2x5 family. With Garmin, NAVTEQ will be the first to bring an advertising supported, real-time traffic service to market in North America.

NAVTEQ Traffic RDS delivers data via FM radio to power Garmin's lifetime traffic alerts allowing drivers to steer clear of traffic accidents, road closures and construction. The Garmin nuvi 755T, 765T and 775T and nuvi 2x5 family come standard with a traffic receiver that will provide alerts in traffic covered areas with no subscription fee required.

NAVTEQ delivers advertising, along with the traffic content, over its RDS network. The advertising is designed to complement the drivers' experience and is contextually relevant. For example, a driver can click on an ad to view specific restaurant information and route to the restaurant's location.

Research indicates consumers accept and even expect advertising if there is a clear value exchange and if the advertising is relevant and unobtrusive. According to research commissioned by NAVTEQ and carried out by Ipsos Understanding UnLtd in early 2008, traffic information has the highest perceived value and the greatest impact on consumers of all dynamic content types including gas prices, parking information, movie listings and times, and flight status information.

"By providing customers like Garmin an advertising-based revenue model in conjunction with RDS traffic data delivery, we believe that more drivers will have access to the most up-to-date traffic information to better manage their daily commutes," commented John MacLeod, executive vice president for NAVTEQ. "Drivers benefit by receiving free traffic while offering advertisers a new location-targeted environment to engage consumers."

CDT Systems, Inc. Invites Interest in Carbon Aerogel to Generate Hydrogen as Fuel for Small Engines

ADDISON, Texas, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CDT Systems, Inc. (Pink Sheets: CDTN) has invited expressions of interest in the use of its proprietary carbon aerogel material to generate a hydrogen/oxygen mix as a fuel source for small engines.

The invitation is extended to companies with expertise in hydrogen or electrolysis technology. It is open until October 22, 2008. Details are on the company's website at http://www.cdtwater.com/.

At in excess of 3 volts, carbon aerogel electrodes perform electrolysis, or the separation of a hydrogen/oxygen mix from water. The mix may be used to augment and enhance conventional fuels in internal combustion engines, with potential benefits of improved fuel economy and reduced harmful emissions.

The electrolysis source of hydrogen offers a path for transition to a non-oil fuel source at lower cost than stripping hydrogen from natural gas. Since carbon aerogel is non-sacrificial, it does not release contaminants into the water or atmosphere as metal electrodes do.

CDT proposes to sell carbon aerogel to developers of electrolyzers and fuel delivery systems for engines.

Meanwhile, CDT is holding discussions with its outsourcing partners about the pilot resumption of carbon aerogel production.

CDT has also received a letter from its intended joint venture manufacturing partner in Japan, Air Water Inc., confirming interest in moving forward the commercialization and manufacture of water treatment cells in Japan using capacitive deionization technology(R).

CDT Systems, Inc. is a licensee of the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLNL) for carbon aerogel material and for capacitive deionization technology(R).

STMicroelectronics Introduces Silicon Tuner and Single-Channel DVB-S2 Demodulator to Enable Cost-Effective HDTV Satellite Consumer EquipmentHighly-integrated two-piece 'front-end' set-top box chipset aimed at fast-growing DVB-S2 HDTV satellite standard

GENEVA, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STMicroelectronics , the world's leading supplier of silicon chips for set-top boxes (STBs)*, today announced it is bolstering its leadership in DVB-S2 digital satellite broadcast solutions with the launch of a new STB 'front-end' chipset for digital satellite high-definition TV equipment. The new STV6110A silicon tuner and the STV0903 single-channel satellite TV demodulator meet all the requirements of the DVB-S2 standard for broadcast applications. The use of DVB-S2 by consumer equipment manufacturers is strongly increasing in a wide range of applications, including Pay-TV and free-to-air STBs, integrated digital TVs (iDTVs), PC TV cards and the emerging high-definition Blu-ray (BD) equipment.

The DVB-S2 standard increases the capacity of satellite communications links by 30% compared to DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast for Satellite), which has been in use for many years by satellite operators worldwide. In combination with other new coding and satellite technologies, DVB-S2 enables the effective deployment of high data-rate applications such as HDTV, broadband Internet and interactive services, as well as a significant increase in the number of standard channels that can be broadcast in a conventional transponder. Major satellite operators covering Europe, North Africa and the Middle-East are now in the process of accelerating the migration of all their satellite transponders to the more efficient DVB-S2 standard. The use of the standard is also increasing outside of the US and Western Europe, toward emerging markets such as Russia, India and Brazil, as well as Eastern Europe.

"ST has shipped more than five million DVB-S2 chipsets to leading makers of high-definition set-top boxes and integrated digital TVs and has, by far, the industry's widest portfolio of silicon IP and field-proven digital TV solutions," said Philippe Lambinet, Executive Vice President and General Manager of ST's Home Entertainment Group. "ST is able to offer leading operators and consumer manufacturers a wide choice of advanced platforms including this new stand-alone tuner and demodulator solution or complete fully integrated set-top box platforms, including tuner and single-chip integrated demodulator and decoder."

The new STV0903 demodulator, which operates seamlessly with ST's new STV6110A silicon tuner, is implemented in a cost-optimized process technology and allows easy upgrade to ST's dual-channel STV0900 demodulator, which was launched in early 2007. The STV6110A silicon tuner is a replacement for ST's STB6000 and STB6100 tuners, which have shipped a cumulative volume of more than 30 million units since 2004. The STV6110A is also suitable for use in markets outside of the DVB-S2 standard, such as Japan, and China, in which new satellite standards are emerging. Importantly, this new STV6110A tuner and STV0903 demodulator combo provides manufacturers with a significant reduction in power consumption offering 600mW and 1.2W, respectively, which is approximately 50% of the combined power consumption of ST's previous chipset.

Full software support is available via ST's application program interface (STAPI), enabling ease of use with ST's extensive family of standard- and high-definition H.264/MPEG-4/VC-1 decoders. Both new devices support QPSK (quadrature-phase-shift-keying) and 8PSK modulation, as well as both DVB-S and DVB-S2 processing. The STV0903 demodulator is packaged in a 14 x 14mm 128-pin LQFP and is priced at $9 in quantities of 10,000. The STV6110A tuner is packaged in a 5 x 5mm 32-pin QFN and is priced at $1.5 in quantities of 10,000. Both devices are available now in production volumes.
