ClearPoint iLabor Unveils New Platform, Fresh Look at GlobalShop 2009
CHALFONT, Pa., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- E-procurement management company ClearPoint Business Resources, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CPBR) , has excitedly introduced the highly-evolved iLabor 5.0 - the most functional, flexible and scalable staffing portal on the market- accompanied by its brand-new look and 3,200 Provider branch locations in the United States and Canada.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090401/LA92443)
iLabor 5.0, which went live just last week, is the number-one point-of-entry into North America's largest, most competitive marketplace for buying and selling temporary labor.
The new portal, which can act for iLabor Clients and Providers as a Vendor Management System, offers the same basic functionality as its predecessor, but has several added features that amplify its overall value and performance.
"The first-in-class technology built into the smartly-designed, robust iLabor 5.0 gives our Clients and Providers a more encompassing solution to their staffing needs," said ClearPoint Chief Technology Officer Ray Little. "The new version increases visibility into company operations and tightens control on company spend."
New core iLabor 5.0 features include Requisition Approval and Document Management, and the new add-on feature package includes Selective Services with the option of Financial Controls.
The Requisition Approval function allows Clients to control what their managers can and cannot do relative to job requisitions by setting permissions on each user's account.
The Document Management feature eliminates paper trails by working as a digital storage center for all staffing-related files.
The Selective Services function offers Clients complete control over the individual hired for the job by giving them the opportunity to choose their candidates based on resumes, phone calls and interviews.
The Financial Controls feature, which is optional to Clients who have Selective Services, gives Clients the ability to manage their project and department budgets by letting them set a budget that caps once the money is spent. With Financial Control, Clients can also set up Individual Monetary Approval, which specifies how much a specific manager can spend on what and with whom.
The new portal also has more in-depth, detailed reporting than the original version so that Clients can visually monitor their staffing process as soon as they log in.
"These added features truly boost iLabor's value as a one-stop-shop staffing solution for our Clients' and Providers' needs," Little explained.
The 5.0 system also tiers user access with a hierarchical, role-based security setup tailored to each client's self-set preferences. For example, someone assigned a Client Admin role may have access to everything ranging from Requisition Approval to Document Management to Financial Controls, whereas a Hiring Manager may only have the ability to approve job requisitions.
New product training on iLabor 5.0 began March 9 for ClearPoint Providers and March 16 for ClearPoint Clients. As of last week all of iLabor's Clients and Providers had been moved over to the new portal.

New VideoSphere VMS and 1080p Camera Latest Additions to High-Performance Portfolio from March Networks
OTTAWA, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- March Networks(R) (TSX:MN), a leading provider of intelligent IP video and business analysis applications, today announced the next release of its Video Management System (VMS) software and a new addition to its family of high-definition IP cameras. These integrated products are the latest enhancements to the Company's VideoSphere(TM) Intelligent Video Management portfolio, which continues to deliver the high performance, control and efficiency required by commercial and government organizations in a wide range of applications.
VideoSphere VMS Release 2.1 provides customers with the flexibility to deploy a centralized or highly distributed IP video solution by taking advantage of affordable, industry-standard host and storage platforms. The powerful server software supports up to 128 IP cameras per server, as well as analog cameras connected to VideoSphere Edge and third-party encoders. Its support for devices utilizing advanced H.264 compression technology maximizes bandwidth and storage efficiency, making it ideal software for customers seeking the benefits of multi-megapixel video quality and resolution.
Fully integrated with VideoSphere application software, VMS 2.1 enables organizations to proactively monitor and maintain the health of their entire IP video infrastructure, including servers, cameras and encoders, through health alert monitoring conducted remotely over the network. In addition, the software helps streamline user access controls. Administrators can group devices by function, geography or customer hierarchy to simplify user permission creation and management. They can also integrate access controls with existing IT user authentication systems for further efficiency.
The enhanced management capabilities of VMS 2.1 are further complemented by the latest addition to the VideoSphere family of award-winning IP cameras. The powerful MegaPX 1080p Camera combines multi-megapixel resolution and an HD format with H.264 compression. The resulting savings in bandwidth and storage allow the 1080p to stream at up to 30 frames per second and record video independently to an integrated SDHC card for critical backup in the case of a network outage. Its compact, lightweight design and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support make it simple to install in almost any indoor location.
"March Networks remains focused on delivering solutions that make it easier and more cost-effective for organizations to manage their IP video infrastructure and take advantage of real-time operational intelligence optimized for critical infrastructure security," said Fabrizio Colciago, Chief Technology Officer, March Networks. "These strategic additions to our VideoSphere portfolio achieve that objective and I look forward to demonstrating their capabilities to new and existing customers."
March Networks will demonstrate its VideoSphere portfolio, including VMS 2.1 and the new MegaPX 1080p Camera, in Booth 23068 at the ISC West International Security Conference & Exhibition, happening April 1-3 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Hole Nos. 15 and 16 from the Augusta National Golf Club have provided many unforgettable moments in Masters Tournament history. In 1935, Gene Sarazen hit the "shot heard 'round the world" when he holed a 4-wood from 235 yards for a double eagle on the Par 5 15th in the fourth round of the event. The shot propelled Sarazen on to victory in just the second Masters Tournament.
While the Par 3 16th has seen 11 holes-in-one in Masters Tournament history, perhaps no shot on this hole was more memorable than Tiger Woods' chip-in in 2005 en route to securing his fourth Green Jacket.
The name Amen Corner refers to hole Nos. 11, 12 and 13. Amen Corner was first coined in a 1958 Sports Illustrated article by Herbert Warren Wind. Wind was searching for an appropriate name for the location where the critical action had taken place that year. He borrowed the name from an old jazz recording, "Shoutin' in that Amen Corner." (Courtesy masters.com)
The Masters, the most renowned tournament in golf, will be broadcast on CBS for the 54th consecutive year, a record for the longest-running sporting event broadcast on one network. This year marks the 73rd Masters Tournament, one of the most highly anticipated sporting events of the year.

"How Sweet the Sound is an opportunity to celebrate the unique ways that music connects people," said Mike Lanman, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. "Gospel is a genre that attracts people from all walks of life which is what makes this competition so exciting. We look forward to meeting and recognizing the many volunteers who make church choirs such an important part of the community."
Last year, Chicago's Acme Missionary Baptist Church was named the overall winner for the 2008 How Sweet the Sound tour. According to church pastor, Reverend Bernard Sutton, the choir used their prize money to help build the congregation a new sanctuary.
Entry and Selection Process
How Sweet the Sound invites choirs affiliated with a church or other church organizations (as defined by the organization's tax-exempt ID number) within one of the 11 tour cities to enter (visit http://www.howsweetthesound.com/ for specific geography). Choirs interested in a chance to perform onstage in their cities must submit an application and audition video no longer than three minutes. All registration forms and audition videos must be received by June 15. To register online, visit http://www.howsweetthesound.com/. The audition video may be submitted by mail, uploaded online, or dropped off at participating Verizon Wireless Communications Stores. To enter by mail, send tapes to How Sweet the Sound, 125 E. Broad Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
Small and large choirs are eligible to enter the competition. The Few Voices category is for choirs consisting of six to 35 participants, while the Many Voices category is for choirs with 36 to 100 participants. Audition videos will be reviewed by professional music producers or Gospel radio personalities from each city. The judges will select up to 16 choirs -- eight from each category -- from each stop of the tour. The video submissions of the 16 choirs will be posted on http://www.howsweetthesound.com/ where members of the community can vote for their favorite choirs.
Once the online voting is complete, four choirs from each category will be selected to perform onstage in the regional event where two winners, one from each category, will win $10,000 for their choir. One overall winner will be selected at each regional concert, and each choir member from the overall winning choir will also receive a Verizon Wireless phone and a $50 gift card. The overall winning choir from each city will also advance to the grand finale where they will compete to win more than $25,000 in cash and prizes.
In addition, the Verizon Wireless V CAST People's Choice Award will be given to the choir that captures the heart of the audience at each regional performance and at the grand finale performance. The V CAST People's Choice Award winners will receive $5,000.
2009 Tour Highlights
Donald Lawrence, GRAMMY(R)-winning, songwriter, producer, arranger and music director, will emcee the tour for the second full year, and award-winning gospel artist, Marvin Sapp, will also be back as a judge. Once again, Verizon Wireless will select a local artist in each city to create a fine art piece to reflect the competition in their home city.
To entertain concert-goers again this year, Verizon Wireless will bring back the green screen at each tour stop for Gospel Karaoke. Participants can sing along with a gospel choir in front of a green screen so that their projected image is displayed onstage with the participating group. A copy of their performance can be sent to their mobile phones or uploaded to a Web site to be shared with friends and family.
Additional details will be announced as the selection process gets underway. All details about the entry and selection process and the official rules can be found by visiting http://www.howsweetthesound.com/ or by calling 800-230-0053.

Spirent Communications Brings the Real World into the Wireless Test Lab
SUNNYVALE, California, April 1 /PRNewswire/ --
- Flexible 'Virtual Drive Test' and 'Fading Lab' Features Deliver Cost
Efficiencies over Field Testing
Spirent Communications plc (LSE: SPT), a global leader in wireless
infrastructure, devices and application testing, today introduced Virtual
Drive Test and Fading Lab functionality on Spirent's SR5500 Wireless Channel
Emulator (http://www.spirent.com/go/sr5500), the award-winning solution for
wireless receiver performance testing. Virtual Drive Test allows rapid
re-creation of RF conditions to bring real-world field testing of mobile
devices into the lab. Fading Lab enables the creation or replay of
highly-detailed, advanced radio environments from a wide range of data
sources.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090220/SPIRENTLOGO )
Wireless operators and manufacturers traditionally rely on fleets of
drivers to perform mobile field testing, also referred to as drive testing,
to verify the operational and performance capabilities of mobile devices and
services. This approach is neither repeatable nor cost-efficient.
"Virtual Drive Test reduces the amount of physical field testing required
in a product's life cycle resulting in significant cost savings," said Rob
VanBrunt, vice president of Spirent's CDMA and Physical Layer market segment.
"It also offers some clear technical advantages over field testing, enabling
the same precise scenario to be repeated across multiple test runs,
eliminating much of the uncertainty inherent to field testing."
Virtual Drive Test uses Spirent's exclusive Dynamic Environment Emulation
(DEE) feature to provide a more rigorous and sustainable alternative. Virtual
Drive Test generates a set of controlled dynamic RF channels based on channel
parameter data. Complex radio mobility scenarios can be created without
deploying scores of vans, and the RF environment remains consistent between
test iterations.
Spirent's new Fading Lab supplements the SR5500's existing real-time
engine with a new "Fading Data Playback" engine. The Fading Lab engine
converts data into a sample-accurate wireless RF environment. The Fading
Lab's universal interface accepts data from a wide range of sources including
channel-sounding tools and software packages. Virtually any mathematical or
ray-tracing software package can be used to synthesize the input data, as can
custom software packages or scripts. The text-based template allows the user
to create any customized fading model imaginable.
"For wireless operators and device manufacturers, the Spirent SR5500 has
been there to eliminate the risk of missing a critical RF issue," added
VanBrunt. "Now Fading Lab's flexibility eliminates the risk of running up
against a channel model your equipment can't address."
The Fading Lab includes Fading Studio, a software package that creates
advanced channel scenarios for testing MIMO and other multiple-antenna
systems. These already include Spatial Channel Models (SCMs/SCMEs), with
models defined by the European Wireless World Initiative New Radio (WINNER)
consortium to follow shortly.
Demonstrations of the Spirent SR5500 and the company's wide range of
other wireless device, application and infrastructure testing solutions will
be showcased at Booth #744 at CTIA Wireless 2009, April 1-3 in Las Vegas

BT Demonstrates 'Finder' Application on Microsoft's Unified Communications PlatformFinder shifts the burdens of 'presence' and 'preference' to the system, not the user
ORLANDO, Fla., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BT today demonstrated a new unified communications application it has developed on Microsoft's unified communications platform. The demonstration took place at VoiceCon Orlando 2009 during Microsoft Corp.'s keynote address today.
BT's Finder application, which is currently used internally at BT, is one of many applications the company is developing on Microsoft's unified communications platform to enable its customers to increase their operating efficiency and effectiveness. BT is helping its customers understand how to integrate Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2 functionality into their other systems and platforms to add innovative capabilities to their existing business processes.
Finder enables users to determine how and when essential messages reach them. For example, a traveling executive can establish parameters within Finder's settings to ensure that communications on critical topics are sent to specific team members for handling. In turn, critical emails from team members to the executive can be converted from text to speech and sent to the executive's mobile phone. In this way, Finder accelerates delivery of critical information to the right person at the right time. It allows users to focus on business issues while the system handles presence, preference and device attributes in the background.
"Finder shows how Office Communications Server 2007 R2 functionality can easily be integrated into existing business process automation initiatives to provide cost and time savings for our customers," said Randy Schrock, BT vice president of corporate alliances, during his presentation with Gurdeep Singh Pall, corporate vice president, Unified Communications Group at Microsoft. "Delivering Microsoft related unified communications services is a key strategy for BT as we help our enterprise customers maximize their return on investment in Microsoft technologies," Schrock said.
"BT is a great example of a Microsoft partner innovating and introducing new capabilities on the Microsoft unified communications platform," said Gurdeep Singh Pall. "BT's Finder solution benefits customers because it helps achieve greater efficiency, lower cost and more choice in the ways people communicate."
Through its relationship with Microsoft and other partners, BT provides solutions that help enterprise customers improve communication and collaboration. By providing a portfolio of capabilities and services, including unified communications and collaboration consultancy and professional services, BT can help customers:

Developed by NanaOn-Sha, the game marks the return of the creative team from the PaRappa the Rapper series -- legendary game designer and multimedia musician Masaya Matsuura and famed New York artist Rodney Alan Greenblat. In this Wii(TM) exclusive, players use the Wii Remote(TM) as a bandleader baton to recruit new band members, pick up special items, and most importantly, keep the tempo!
Players assume the role of Major Minor, a courageous young cat who inherits his great-great grandmother's magic baton and ultimately realizes his leadership potential at the front of the parade. Using the baton, players recruit 30 original characters to build their band as they march through seven whimsical locations. Twenty different instruments, including brass, woodwinds, and percussion, alter the resulting composition and challenge players to maintain the tempo with each new addition. Players are scored on how well their band maintains its rhythm and halts for obstacles that could otherwise throw the procession into disarray. Major Minor's musical menagerie plays more than 20 classic marching band songs that Masaya Matsuura's team has composed into original medleys for the game's variety of colorful environments. A unique Drill Mode also lets aspiring leaders dazzle the crowd with baton-twirling displays and a range of motions to match cheerleader commands. Waters Corporation Announces the Purchase of UPLC/MS Systems by the National Cancer Institute for Advanced Metabolomics ResearchACQUITY UltraPerformance Liquid Chromatography Paired With Xevo TQ and Synapt HDMS Mass Spectrometers Target Small Molecule Biomarkers Linked to Disease
MILFORD, Mass., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Waters Corporation announced today that the National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research in Bethesda, Md., purchased Waters(R) ACQUITY UPLC(R)/Synapt High Definition MS (HDMS(TM)) and Waters ACQUITY(R) UPLC/Xevo(TM) TQ MS Systems for its metabolomics research programs. The research is aimed at discovering small molecule metabolites, or biomarkers, associated with cancer susceptibility and diagnosis, treatment efficacy and the adverse effects of medicines and other chemicals. Researchers are confident these tools will lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms of the disease and its diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Identifying and quantifying the thousands of metabolic biomarkers present in a complex sample such as urine can be a daunting task. Only with the most sensitive of instruments and most powerful of software can researchers uncover and pinpoint the important biomarkers that may be present even in the smallest of quantities. This level of advanced research requires analytical tools with exceptional separations and confirmatory power, and the speed and reliability to analyze thousands of samples per month. Since purchasing an ACQUITY UPLC/Q-Tof Premier(TM) mass spectrometer in 2005, the Center has tested 80,000 samples using this system in support of various research studies.
Waters ACQUITY UPLC System employs 1.7 micron particles in analytical columns that permit higher chromatographic resolution, shorter analysis times, and the use of less solvent per sample. Paired with tandem quadrupole and quadrupole time-of-flight/ion mobility mass spectrometry, the sharper chromatographic peaks, increased peak heights, and better signal-to-noise performance of UPLC(R) technology improves the mass spectrometer's ability to ionize molecules. This capability leads to greater all-around MS sensitivity and the ability to accurately identify vanishingly small concentrations of individual analytes. UPLC separations typically take only 10 minutes versus nearly 50 minutes for traditional HPLC to get the same answer leading to dramatically better throughput. UPLC consumes up to 95 percent less solvent than HPLC, a major consideration given the current shortage and rising cost of acetonitrile and the amount of solvent that metabolomics studies consume.
Waters Xevo TQ MS System is an advanced tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer that tackles the most demanding quantification applications for target compounds at low concentrations in highly complex and diverse samples. The Xevo TQ MS System uses ScanWave(TM), a unique collision cell technology based on a novel use of Waters' proven T-Wave(TM) technology that improves duty cycle and significantly enhances the full scan capability to meet the demands of today's complex analyses. This allows scientists to more easily confirm the identities and structures of targeted analytes.
The Synapt(TM) HDMS system combines quadrupole time-of-flight with ion-mobility technology and software to enable the analysis of sample ions differentiated by size and shape, as well as mass. This additional dimension of separations fidelity leads to improved specificity and sample definition, meaning scientists can extract more information about their samples and detect previously unseen constituents.
Together with bioinformatics software tools incorporated in Waters MassLynx(TM) software, researchers using UPLC/MS/MS can analyze tens of thousands of data points per analysis, ultimately creating a more informed picture of the mechanisms of toxicity and carcinogenicity in human patients.
About Waters Corporation (http://www.waters.com/)
Waters Corporation creates business advantages for laboratory-dependent organizations by delivering practical and sustainable innovation to enable significant advancements in such areas as healthcare delivery, environmental management, food safety and water quality worldwide.
Pioneering a connected portfolio of separations science, laboratory information management, mass spectrometry and thermal analysis, Waters technology breakthroughs and laboratory solutions provide an enduring platform for customer success.
With revenue of $1.58 billion in 2008 and 5,000 employees, Waters is driving scientific discovery and operational excellence for customers worldwide.

Most Reliable Wireless Network
The company's 'America's most reliable wireless network' reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country. By traversing more than one million miles annually on Interstate, U.S. and state highways, as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas - the equivalent of two roundtrips to the moon or 40 trips around the world - the test men and women confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

Lockheed Martin Selected for Role on U.S. Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Contract Vehicle
ORLANDO, Fla., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin Corporation has been selected by the U.S. Army to compete for future training and simulation tasks under the Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Omnibus Contract (STOC II). One hundred and forty one other companies also were selected to compete for STOC II tasks.
STOC II is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contracting vehicle with a ceiling of $17.5 billion and a total potential ordering period of 10 years. The 141 companies selected to compete for tasks must submit proposals to vie for each portion of the overall contract.
STOC II is designed to quickly get simulation and training products and services into the hands of U.S. and coalition service members.
"Lockheed Martin's selection for STOC II allows us to further enhance our partnership with PEO STRI helping them train their warfighters," said Jim Craig, vice president of Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training & Support Ground, Maritime and Civil Solutions. "The continuation of the STOC concept gives the Army the flexibility it needs to rapidly respond to changing training requirements that are brought about by a changing battlefield."
Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training & Support works with the Army to reinvent how it trains soldiers for today's battlefield and for future conflicts. Focusing on Human Performance Engineering, STS is developing training solutions that are student-centric, enabling soldiers to master tasks at a pace that focuses on the individual, rather than the traditional group environment. This provides a greater return on the training investment often reducing the time needed to train troops.
STOC II is a follow on contract to the STOC I, awarded in 2000, an eight-year $4 billion contract. Among the products Lockheed Martin delivered under STOC I were the Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT), CCTT Reconfigurable Vehicle Simulator, Advanced Gunnery Training System, Reconfigurable Vehicle Tactical Trainer, the Virtual Combat Convoy Trainer, the Warfighter Simulation (WARSIM), MILES XXI, Combat Training Center-Objective Instrumentation System and the Common Training Instrumentation Architecture.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 146,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2008 sales of $42.7 billion.

AT&T Reaches Major Michigan Investment Milestone; Announces Plan to Add More Than 40 New Cell Sites in 2009AT&T Continues to Expand Nation's Fastest 3G Wireless Network Across Michigan
DETROIT, April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T* today announced its total capital investment in Michigan exceeded $2 billion from the time the current Michigan Telecommunications Act went into effect and video franchise reform legislation was passed and signed into law in 2006, through 2008. As it continues to work to keep Michiganians connected, AT&T also unveiled its wireless network expansion plans, including investment in wireless broadband and the addition of more than 40 new cell sites throughout Michigan in 2009.
"By expanding critical wireless access, providing consumers faster and better options for everything from reaching emergency services to conducting business to sharing information with family and friends, AT&T is creating economic opportunity across Michigan," said Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm. "Expanding wireless infrastructure is a valuable service to Michigan that will help grow the economy and improve the quality of life."
The investment in its 3G wireless broadband network - the nation's fastest, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms - is part of AT&T's ongoing effort to build the broadband networks that will create jobs and fuel economic growth, and enable AT&T's customers to access the content, applications and services that matter most to them.
As part of its Michigan 2009 investment, AT&T plans to add more than 40 new cell sites throughout the state in areas including: Metro Detroit, Cheboygan, East Jordan, East Lansing, Elk Rapids, Fenton, Flint, Howell, Mount Pleasant, Muskegon, Port Huron, Rogers City and Saginaw. In addition, AT&T plans to introduce 3G service in Bay City, Holland, Midland, Mount Pleasant, Muskegon, Port Huron, Saginaw and Traverse City, which will expand its 3G footprint into Bay, Grand Traverse, Isabella, Midland, Muskegon, Saginaw and St. Clair counties.
"Over the last few years, the state legislature has worked to create an environment in Michigan which invited investment and expansion in the telecommunications market," said Gail Torreano, president, AT&T Michigan. "We continue to make significant investments to deliver dependable, high speed wireless access in more places across Michigan for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends and our ongoing investments in Michigan will help us ensure that our state has access to the advanced wireless broadband services that help drive economic growth."
From 2006 to 2008, AT&T's total capital investment in Michigan was more than $2 billion. During that time, more than 60 new cell sites were activated and more than 500 sites were upgraded with technology that improves in-building coverage and enhances voice quality and data speeds. In addition, AT&T seamlessly transitioned over the former Dobson network in the Upper Peninsula and completed 3G network builds in Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing.
AT&T also created hundreds of new positions around the state, expanded facilities to bring high-speed Internet access to every central office it operates in Michigan and deployed its AT&T U-verse(SM) services, including U-verse TV, U-verse High Speed Internet and U-verse Voice, in parts of several communities including Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Saginaw areas.
"A top priority in 2009 is to continue to enhance the wireless network so our customers have a top-notch experience every time they make a call, check an e-mail or surf the Internet on their AT&T device," said Brian Ducharme, vice president and general manager for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets in Michigan. "We continue to make significant investments to deliver dependable, high speed wireless access in more places across Michigan for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends."
AT&T's wireless network is based on GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) technologies, the most open and widely used wireless network platform in the world. As a result, only AT&T can offer 3G data roaming in more than 70 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 200 countries, in addition to AT&T's continuous 3G expansion in the U.S. AT&T's 3G network is now available in nearly 350 U.S. major metropolitan areas.
AT&T operates more than 60 AT&T-owned retail locations in Michigan. AT&T's products and services are also available at a number of other authorized dealers and national retail locations.

Verizon Wireless and Itron Combine Forces to Harness the Power of Wireless Technology in Advanced Metering and Smart Grid MarketJoint Marketing Agreement Allows Utilities to Leverage Energy Communications Solution on the Nation's Most Reliable 3G Wireless Network
LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., April 1
/PRNewswire/ -- From CTIA WIRELESS 2009(R), Verizon Wireless and Itron Inc. today announced a joint marketing agreement for development of secure, two-way communications that support utilities' access to energy usage data and advance their smart grid projects. Operating on Verizon Wireless' network, the Itron OpenWay(R) Cell Relay now allows utilities to more quickly collect, measure and manage energy data, while providing a reliable and affordable supply of power without having to build and operate proprietary communications networks.
A primary component of Itron's advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution, OpenWay by Itron, the OpenWay Cell Relay is the router for the Itron radio frequency local-area network (RFLAN). The relay, which has passed the Verizon Wireless open development compliance process, solidifies integration between the OpenWay RFLAN and the wide-area network (WAN) provided by Verizon Wireless' nationwide, high-speed CDMA (1x EV-DO and 1xRTT) wireless data network. The Verizon Wireless network is now available as a WAN backhaul connection option in the OpenWay architecture. Ultimately, this provides a secure approach to data collection and communications with the meter or other smart grid devices.
"AMI is a key foundational component of the smart grid. And given recent legislation that provides $4.5 billion in funding for smart grid investments, this is a big initiative," said Philip Mezey, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Itron North America. "Working side by side with Verizon Wireless, harnessing the expertise of both companies, we're more effectively expanding the power of wireless technology, thus, broadening smart grid opportunities for our customers."
The OpenWay Cell Relay is available either incorporated within the OpenWay CENTRON(R) meter or in pole-mounted, ruggedized housing. The OpenWay architecture delivers operational efficiency, empowers all customers to participate in energy management and conservation, and serves as a cornerstone in connecting utilities to the smart grid.
"As the demand for smart grid technologies continues to grow, we recognize that our utility customers need the latest technology to better serve their customers," said Mark Bartolomeo, vice president of enterprise data at Verizon Wireless. "Our joint marketing agreement with Itron helps Verizon Wireless provide customers with an important part of their smart grid platform. Combined with the speed and reliability of the Verizon Wireless network, this offers utilities a cost-effective advanced metering infrastructure solution."
The communications architecture of OpenWay is fully compliant with the American National Standards Institute C12.22 protocol for transport of device data over a network and remains independent of any particular communications technology. This means multiple transport technologies, including mobile networks, can be seamlessly integrated into a single architecture to deliver the best combination of reliability and cost effectiveness.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Educators needing special education and intervention materials for Tier 2 and Tier 3 can now access tailored solutions on the new InterventionResources.com, developed by SRA and Wright Group -- both divisions of McGraw-Hill Education.

Spirent Communications Brings the Real World into the Wireless Test LabFlexible 'Virtual Drive Test' and 'Fading Lab' Features Deliver Cost Efficiencies over Field Testing
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Spirent Communications plc , a global leader in wireless infrastructure, devices and application testing, today introduced Virtual Drive Test and Fading Lab functionality on Spirent's SR5500 Wireless Channel Emulator, the award-winning solution for wireless receiver performance testing. Virtual Drive Test allows rapid re-creation of RF conditions to bring real-world field testing of mobile devices into the lab. Fading Lab enables the creation or replay of highly-detailed, advanced radio environments from a wide range of data sources.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090220/SPIRENTLOGO )
Wireless operators and manufacturers traditionally rely on fleets of drivers to perform mobile field testing, also referred to as drive testing, to verify the operational and performance capabilities of mobile devices and services. This approach is neither repeatable nor cost-efficient.
"Virtual Drive Test reduces the amount of physical field testing required in a product's life cycle resulting in significant cost savings," said Rob VanBrunt, vice president of Spirent's CDMA and Physical Layer market segment. "It also offers some clear technical advantages over field testing, enabling the same precise scenario to be repeated across multiple test runs, eliminating much of the uncertainty inherent to field testing."
Virtual Drive Test uses Spirent's exclusive Dynamic Environment Emulation (DEE) feature to provide a more rigorous and sustainable alternative. Virtual Drive Test generates a set of controlled dynamic RF channels based on channel parameter data. Complex radio mobility scenarios can be created without deploying scores of vans, and the RF environment remains consistent between test iterations.
Spirent's new Fading Lab supplements the SR5500's existing real-time engine with a new "Fading Data Playback" engine. The Fading Lab engine converts data into a sample-accurate wireless RF environment. The Fading Lab's universal interface accepts data from a wide range of sources including channel-sounding tools and software packages. Virtually any mathematical or ray-tracing software package can be used to synthesize the input data, as can custom software packages or scripts. The text-based template allows the user to create any customized fading model imaginable.
"For wireless operators and device manufacturers, the Spirent SR5500 has been there to eliminate the risk of missing a critical RF issue," added VanBrunt. "Now Fading Lab's flexibility eliminates the risk of running up against a channel model your equipment can't address."
The Fading Lab includes Fading Studio, a software package that creates advanced channel scenarios for testing MIMO and other multiple-antenna systems. These already include Spatial Channel Models (SCMs/SCMEs), with models defined by the European Wireless World Initiative New Radio (WINNER) consortium to follow shortly.
Demonstrations of the Spirent SR5500 and the company's wide range of other wireless device, application and infrastructure testing solutions will be showcased at Booth #744 at CTIA Wireless 2009, April 1-3 in Las Vegas. For more information visit http://www.spirent.com/go/sr5500
