Authentidate Teams with Nortel to Enhance Hospital Patient Discharge and Placement ProcessesIntegrated Discharge Communications Solution Demonstrated at HIMSS 2009

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Authentidate Holding Corp. , a worldwide provider of secure Health Information Exchange and workflow management services, today announced that it has integrated Authentidate's Inscrybe(TM) Healthcare with Nortel's Patient Discharge Solution (PDS) to improve hospital patient discharges.

"Hospitals are looking to automate and accelerate the patient discharge and placement process," explained Sanjeev Gupta, general manager, Healthcare Solutions, Nortel. "By enhancing Nortel's award winning Patient Discharge Solution with Authentidate's patient placement solution, we can help hospitals streamline the entire process, improving bed and facility utilization, and also provide a boost to the hospital's bottom line."

The integration of these two solutions provides for transparent information flow between Nortel's PDS and Authentidate's Inscrybe Healthcare using federated identities. This enables a physician or nurse in charge of the patient to initiate the discharge process at the Nortel PDS which then communicates all appropriate patient information to Inscrybe Healthcare. Now, hospital staff can complete the patient discharge placement process for post acute care placement, medical equipment, therapy and other services for patients securely over the web. The integrated solution goes far beyond a single logon for hospital staff and allows each staff member to complete their portion of the patient discharge process more efficiently and cost effectively.

The web-based portion of the service automates manual workflow processes and tracks the status of those communications, reducing the placement cycle time for post-acute care while freeing up hospital beds, equipment and staff. The streamlined workflows improve the efficiency of clinical and administrative processes, while reducing costs and reinforcing best practices.

With an extensive national database of post-acute care facilities and home care providers, Inscrybe Healthcare facilitates the secure exchange of all types of health information necessary for the authorization of post-acute care placement, medical equipment, therapy and other services for patients.

"Hospitals, patients, physicians, nursing staff, post-acute care providers and health insurers all benefit from this next-generation integration of communications and health information exchange to provide a more efficient patient discharge solution. This is an excellent example of how our entire healthcare ecosystem can improve when technology leaders like Nortel and Authentidate collaborate to solve real-world problems," said Cecilia Panozzo, Director of Business Development at Authentidate Holding Corp.

The new solution will be demonstrated for the first time to the public in Nortel's booth #4408 at the HIMSS 2009 show April 4-8, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois.

WELLINGTON, Fla., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Quantum Group, Inc. (NYSE Amex: QGP) (, a Healthcare Services Organization (HSO), announced today that PWeR(TM) (Personal Wellness electronic Record), the Quantum healthcare information platform and IBM hosted solution, is presenting in the IBM Booth at the 2009 HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference. The HIMSS09 conference is being held April 4 - April 8th at McCormick Place in Chicago.

PWeR is being introduced to conference attendees as a solution for interconnectivity for the highly fragmented healthcare industry and as a key component of Pc3 (Patient Centered Collaborative Care), IBM's Medical Home solution. The patient-centric system is a service-oriented model that meets the needs of payers (HMO/MSO/large employers), physicians, governmental health agencies and facilities (hospitals, nursing homes, long term care, etc.) as PWeR provides accessibility to comprehensive patient information that is vital to the efficiency and effectiveness of each entity.

Pete Martinez, Quantum Senior Vice President and Chief Technology & Innovations Officer, led the development of PWeR and is present at the HIMSS conference to introduce the platform to attendees. Martinez commented, "The timing to present PWeR at the world-renowned HIMSS conference is perfect. The HIMSS conference brings the best and brightest minds from the industry together to collaborate on the future of healthcare. We are engaging in new dialogues that talk of patient care in terms of prevention and wellness, rather than treatment and care. Sam's Club Launches Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Package for Practices to Help Improve Patient CareVirginia, Illinois and Georgia First States Targeted for Phased Implementation

BENTONVILLE, Ark., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To help independent medical practitioners provide more timely care, reduce medical errors, eliminate paperwork and contain costs, Sam's Club, eClinicalWorks(R) and Dell announced today details of its turnkey electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management package, ideal for small physician practices. This first-of-its-kind partnership and package eliminates the traditional barriers to entry including cost and complexity and will help to increase adoption rates and improve overall patient care.

"We have thousands of members in the medical field today that buy products and services at Sam's Club to help them run their businesses and they tell us that cost is a significant barrier to adopting EMRs," said Charles Redfield, senior vice president at Sam's Club. "Over the past year of our partnership, we developed a solution that is easy to use, affordable and will help them do a better job of taking care of their patients' needs."

EMRs have the potential to reduce health care costs while improving the quality of care delivered according to health care experts. Unfortunately, adoption rates among physicians in the U.S. have remained low. A June 2008 survey published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed only four percent of U.S. physicians providing direct patient care said they had a full EMR system, and only 13 percent said they had even a basic system.

The EMR package is available now in Virginia, Illinois and Georgia as part of a phased implementation. It is anticipated the package will be available to physicians nationwide this year.

"I am pleased that Sam's Club is working with the Virginia Department of Health to build in the ability for this system to share immunization data and mandated disease reporting with the Department," said Dr. Karen Remley, Virginia's Commissioner of Health. "These voluntary features will improve childhood immunization rates and simplify reporting of certain diseases as required by law. At a time when health needs in our communities are increasing and resources are under pressure, electronic health records and advances in health IT have enormous potential to improve the quality of public health care."

The convenient, all-in-one technology solution is scalable for growing practices. The eClinicalWorks software will be delivered through a "Software as a Service" (SaaS) model, enabling physicians to access the system via a secure Internet connection. Dell will provide necessary hardware and site assessment, onsite technical set-up and training as well as integration of the eClinicalWorks software with the operating system, along with hardware warranty support.

"eClinicalWorks has a proven track record of deploying a full-functioning EMR/PM system successfully, quickly and at an affordable price point," said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. "Through this partnership, we are helping reduce the cost of healthcare by offering our versatile software, complete with clinical decision support functionality, to aid providers in giving the best medical care possible. Working with Dell makes it even easier for practices to take advantage of the system. Initiatives like this, along with President Obama's support of electronic medical records, could be the catalyst to widespread EMR adoption."

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will pay physicians $44,000 to $64,000 over five years, beginning in 2011, for deploying and "meaningful use" of certified EMRs. This is expected to drive up to 90 percent of U.S. physicians to EMRs in the next decade, according to a Congressional Budget Office review.

The comprehensive package, which includes EMR and practice management (PM) software and hardware, is available for a small practice of one to three providers. For a three provider practice, it will cost less than $25,000 for the first provider and up to $10,000 for each additional provider. This is a fraction of the cost of traditional programs, making it more affordable for small independent healthcare practices.

"Cost and complexity have been the primary barriers to EMR adoption," said James Coffin, vice president of Dell's Healthcare and Life Sciences business. "Partnering with eClinicalWorks and Sam's Club, we are addressing both by providing an EMR solution that is easy to purchase, easy to implement and easy to manage so that healthcare providers spend less time on administration and more time serving patients."

Medical professionals can learn about the EMR package at or by calling 866-653-1933. Compliant with industry standards, eClinicalWorks EMR Version 8.0 is a CCHIT Certified(R) 08 Ambulatory EHR, additionally certified for Child Health Production, as defined by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. In addition, eClinicalWorks will provide physicians with 12 weeks of project management, data center support, e-prescribing integration, comprehensive primary care and specialty specific templates with decision support, five days of onsite training by eClinicalWorks staff, free unlimited online webinars and eClinicalWorks software support for this first year. The package hardware components include three Dell OptiPlex desktops, one Latitude XT convertible tablet, one fax server, one laser printer and applicable switches.

Nine Additional Virginia Law Enforcement Agencies Deploy BIO-key(R) and DaPro Systems SolutionBIO-key International's MobileCop(R) and DaProSystems' Public Safety System Equip Officers with Access to Mobile Data and a Link to Dispatchers

WALL, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BIO-key International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: BKYI) , a leader in finger-based biometric identification and wireless public safety solutions and its partner, DaProSystems of Roanoke, Virginia, a leading provider of Public Safety Software, announced nine recent mobile data software contract awards from existing DaProSystems customers in Virginia. Using MobileCop(R), BIO-key's wireless query and messaging solution and DaProSystems' Mobile FR field reporting tool on laptops in their patrol vehicles, officers can now communicate silently and securely with the dispatch center, query state and federal criminal justice databases, and complete and submit reports on-scene. Immediate access to criminal justice data, such as stolen vehicle reports and outstanding arrest warrants, helps protect officer safety and reduces unsecure radio traffic, and the ability to complete reports in the field improves officer productivity. Under these contracts, a total of 110 patrol units are being equipped with the new software.

The mobile data contracts awards are from the sheriff's offices in Franklin, Northampton and Patrick Counties, police departments in Blackstone, Bridgewater, Broadway, Grottoes and Timberville, and the James Madison University (JMU) Police. For the Blackstone Police Department, this is the final phase of a department-wide systems modernization program, which also included a new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management system (RMS) from DaProSystems. The JMU Police award also includes PocketCop(R), BIO-key's complementary mobile data solution that runs on BlackBerry smartphones and other handhelds.

The first of the new agencies to deploy mobile data was the Patrick County Sheriff's Office, which received federal funding through the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. "We're a small county population-wise, but the Sheriff's Office has primary law enforcement responsibility across almost 500 square miles," stated Patrick County Sheriff's Office Captain Ward Stone. "With MobileCop, our deputies and investigators can get the information they need to protect themselves and get their jobs done. We now have the same tools that larger departments have."

Since there isn't a dedicated county IT support staff, the Patrick County Sheriff's Office needed a mobile data system that would run smoothly. "What amazes me about the system is its reliability - it's truly trouble free," noted Captain Stone. "I thought a new mobile data system would be an operational nightmare for a small department like ours, but we haven't had a single problem since the initial start-up. It's unbelievable! When we did have questions the BIO-key tech support was fabulous."

These awards bring the total number of Virginia agencies using the DaProSystems/BIO-key mobile data solution to eighteen. "These law enforcement agencies are now able to benefit from the seamless integration of BIO-key and DaProSystems Public Safety Software solutions to improve their officer safety and better serve their communities" added Ken Souza, Senior Vice President and General Manager of BIO-key's Law Enforcement Division.

Union City High School Students Participate in High School Success ProgramAT&T Foundation funds peer leadership and mentoring program

UNION CITY, N.J., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Princeton Center for Leadership Training, Inc., today announced the expansion of a program to transition 9th graders in the Union City school district. Prevent Mobile 'Bill Shock' With Bridgewater's Smart Caps

    OTTAWA, Canada, April 6 /PRNewswire/ --

    - Increase Subscriber Satisfaction and Comply With Proposed EU Data Roaming Regulations

Bridgewater Systems (TSX: BWC), the mobile personalization company, today announced that mobile operators can prevent 'bill shock,' comply with proposed European Union (EU) mobile data roaming regulations, and deliver personalized services with the Bridgewater(R) Policy Controller with Smart Caps(TM).

News - Bill shock occurs when a subscriber inadvertently runs up high mobile data bills while travelling or downloading applications. The EU has proposed new regulations that cap mobile data roaming fees to alleviate bill shock. By as early as March 1, 2010, subscribers may be able to opt for a maximum personal data roaming limit and be warned when they reach 80% of that limit. If subscribers have not opted for a limit, a set limit would be imposed automatically. - Mobile operators can comply with proposed EU regulations and deliver personalized services using the Bridgewater Policy Controller with Smart Caps. Smart Caps are precise policy controls that adjust usage levels based on real-time factors such as the subscriber's data consumption during a mobile data session, roaming status, and level of network congestion. - This enables operators to: - Improve satisfaction and reduce churn by proactively notifying subscribers when they are near their data roaming charge or usage limit to prevent bill shock. Operators can also provide real-time choices like service extensions or data usage boosts to drive incremental revenues. - Deliver personalized services including applications on demand, promoting new applications with a day pass or a trial period with no usage limit, multiple flat-rate tiers, and special event based offers. - Empower subscribers to set their own policies by providing self-service portals that allow them to set data roaming thresholds and notifications, and implement these changes in real-time. - The Bridgewater Policy Controller is a PCRF-compliant policy control function that provides real-time network, application, and subscriber policies that allow operators to offer personalized services, lower operational costs, and generate incremental revenues.

David Vorhaus, Senior Analyst, Yankee Group

"As mobile operators are tasked with ensuring tight control of subscriber activity and delivering highly personalized services to each subscriber, a dedicated policy management and control solution is a must. Not only does this enable compliance with the EU's proposed regulations around roaming limits, but it can spur revenue growth through the introduction of new services, bandwidth boosts, applications on demand and other value-adds."

David Sharpley, Senior Vice President, Bridgewater Systems

"Subscribers want real-time control over their mobile experience including service plans, billing, and applications. The market leading Bridgewater Policy Controller with Smart Caps provides a unique approach to preventing 'bill shock' and enabling mobile operators to offer personalized services that improve the subscriber's mobile data experience, generate new revenues, and reduce churn."

The 3GPP standardization group, well known for specifying mobile communication systems such as UMTS, HSPA and LTE, has approved the final specifications of the eCall in-band modem standard. Évitez les factures surprises avec la technologie Smart Caps de Bridgewater

    OTTAWA, Canada, April 6 /PRNewswire/ --
