Broadcom's BCM3380 Cable Modem Silicon Family Becomes First and Only to Receive Both EuroDOCSIS(TM) 3.0 and DOCSIS(R) 3.0 CertificationsThe BCM3380 silicon family becomes the first and only certified product that supports eight downstream channels
IRVINE, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Broadcom Corporation , a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its BCM3380 family of channel bonding cable modem silicon solutions has received EuroDOCSIS(TM) 3.0 certification in EuroCertWave 34 and DOCSIS(R) 3.0 certification in CertWave 65 with customer submitted data and voice modems. With the Euro certification, the BCM3380 family becomes the first and only silicon solution certified as both EuroDOCSIS(TM) and DOCSIS 3.0 compliant. The BCM3380 silicon family becomes the first and only certified product that supports eight downstream channels, with download speeds of more than 300 megabits per second (Mbps), doubling the download speeds of all previously certified DOCSIS(R) 3.0 devices.
In addition to the Broadcom(R) BCM3380 being certified for both DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 specifications (representing traditional data modem applications), the product family also received PacketCable(TM) 1.5 and EuroPacketCable(TM) 1.5 certification, which is applicable to DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 3.0 embedded multimedia terminal adapter (eMTA) and voice gateway solutions.
"Broadcom's eight channel downstream DOCSIS products represent a huge step forward for the cable industry," says Jeff Heynen, Directing Analyst of Infonetics Research. "With Broadcom's latest technology, cable operators can raise the bar to 300Mbps and beyond as the competition between service providers and the increasing consumer appetite for on line video continues to accelerate demand for increased download speed."
"Our goal with the BCM3380 silicon family of data and voice modems is to enable the highest performing and most cost-optimized DOCSIS 3.0 and EuroDOCSIS 3.0 solutions," said Jay Kirchoff, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Broadcom's Cable Modem line of business. "As the only globally compliant solution, we see operators around the world taking advantage of the significant increase in download speeds offered by our eight channel solution."
According to Infonetics, the wideband modem segment is projected to become the fastest growing volume segment with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 133 percent from 2008 through 2013, substantially ahead of standard DOCSIS2.0 cable modems. The Broadcom BCM3380 family of fully integrated cable solutions is capable of bonding up to eight downstream channels and up to four upstream channels, allowing consumers, for example, to download a two hour HD video in about two minutes, eight times faster than over a standard cable modem. Due to its unmatched level of performance and cost optimization, Broadcom has already begun shipping production volumes of its BCM3380 silicon family. In addition to the BCM3380 silicon family, Broadcom has been shipping BCM3381 channel bonding silicon since 2007. In total, Broadcom has shipped more than three million silicon solutions with channel bonding capability to date.

Renaissance Learning, Inc. Announces First Quarter, 2009 Results
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis., April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Renaissance Learning(R), Inc. , a leading provider of technology to support personalized practice, differentiated instruction, and progress monitoring in reading, math, and writing for pre-K-12 schools and districts, today announced financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. Revenues for the first quarter of 2009 were $28.9 million, a decrease of 1.8% from first quarter 2008 revenues of $29.4 million. Net income was $3.9 million, or $.13 per share, compared to net income of $2.6 million, or $.09 per share, for the first quarter last year.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20001108/RENAISSANCELOGO)
"We are pleased to report solid financial results for the first quarter, especially given the serious recessionary environment," commented Terrance D. Paul, Chief Executive Officer. "Revenue held up at close to last year's level due to the recognition of deferred revenue from the strong orders in last year's second and third quarters, and we achieved higher earnings due to improved gross margins and lower operating costs. On the negative side, orders declined by 16% compared to last year's first quarter. Schools reduced their purchases because of shortfalls in state revenues and also because they are waiting to determine what they will receive from the government stimulus programs, particularly the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
"ARRA includes significant funding for education, targeting initiatives which many of our products support. In the last 30 days we have seen an increase in quote activity, which suggests schools are preparing to deploy some of their stimulus funds," added Paul. "The near term benefit of the stimulus funds, combined with our long track record of providing products that accelerate learning, leads us to believe we are well positioned to achieve improved growth in the future."
Renaissance Learning added approximately 500 new customer schools during the quarter, bringing total schools worldwide that are actively using the Company's products to over 74,000. Of these, more than 27,000 are actively using at least one product running on the Renaissance Place platform.
The Company will hold a conference call at 5:00 p.m. EDT today to discuss its financial results, quarterly highlights and business outlook. The teleconference may be accessed in listen-only mode by dialing 888-293-6953, ID number 8991574 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Please call a few minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure a proper connection.
A digital recording of the conference call will be made available on April 16, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. through April 23, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. The replay dial-in is 888-203-1112. The conference ID number to access the replay is 8991574.

This press release contains forward-looking statements made pursuant to the safe harbor provision of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, including statements regarding growth initiatives, growth prospects, cost reductions and management's expectations regarding orders and financial results for 2009 and future periods. These forward-looking statements are based on current expectations and various assumptions which management believes are reasonable. However, these statements involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from any future results encompassed within the forward-looking statements. Factors that could cause or contribute to such differences include the failure of AR and AM Enterprise and laptop orders to achieve expected growth targets, a decline in quiz sales that exceeds forecasts, risks associated with the implementation of the Company's strategic growth plan, dependence on educational institutions and government funding, our ability to successfully implement cost savings measures and achieve cost reductions, and other risks affecting the Company's business as described in the Company's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the Company's 2008 Annual Report on Form 10-K and later filed quarterly reports on Form 10-Q and Current Reports on Form 8-K, which factors are incorporated herein by reference. The Company expressly disclaims a duty to provide updates to forward-looking statements, whether as a result of new information, future events or other occurrences.

Court Finds No Evidence Supporting Genius Products and Numark Industries Allegations Against Activision
SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The following statement was released today by Activision Publishing, Inc. in response to media and other inquiries related to the Genius Products and Numark Industries lawsuit:
Activision Publishing strongly denies the allegations made by Genius Products and Numark Industries and believes that the claims are disingenuous and lack any merit. Yesterday, the L.A. Superior Court found that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing by Activision and refused to grant any restraining order against Activision.
These allegations are nothing more than an attempt by Genius to place blame for the game's delay, as well as to divert attention from the cash flow, liquidity and revenue challenges Genius detailed in its March 30, 2009, SEC filing. By their own admission in October 2008, the game had fallen behind in production, which was well before Activision had any involvement with Genius, Numark or California 7 Studios regarding the game.
The lawsuit will have no impact on Activision's upcoming DJ Hero(R) game, a turntable-based music game that the company has been independently developing.
Activision purchased 7 Studios on April 6, 2009 to bolster its development capabilities. 7 Studios had continued to develop Scratch: The Ultimate DJ and Activision did not interfere with or delay their efforts to complete the game. In fact, Activision provided the fledgling developer with much needed financing during these difficult economic times.

dollars US.
Cable & Wireless, MTN, Telecom Namibia, Portugal Telecom, Sotelco, Tata
