    AT&T Government Solutions Wins $45 Million Award From the Department of State for Managed ServicesAT&T Award Under the General Services Administration Networx Universal Program

    OAKTON, Va., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The AT&T Government Solutions business unit has announced an award from the Department of State estimated to be worth approximately $45 million if all options are exercised.

    The award was issued via the General Services Administration's Networx Universal program, a contract vehicle that allows AT&T to provide a full range of communications services to federal government agencies.

    Selected by the State Department as the sole provider of telecommunication services ordered from the Networx Universal contract for the Cabinet-level agency, AT&T will provide Managed Services including Private Line, Multi-Protocol Label Switching, Frame Relay, Voice and IP Telephony. AT&T will deploy these services at more than 100 State Department locations, supporting systems and applications for its 13,000 employee work force.

    Electric Transmission Texas Signs Contract for Largest Utility-Scale Battery in the U.S.

    AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Electric Transmission Texas LLC (ETT) has completed a contract with NGK-Locke, Inc. for a state-of-the-art, sodium-sulfur 4-megawatt NAS battery system, which will be installed in Presidio, Texas. ETT is a joint venture between American Electric Power and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company (MidAmerican).

    The NAS battery will be the first in Texas and the largest in the United States and represents part of a $67 million overall commitment by ETT to improve transmission reliability in Presidio and surrounding areas.

    The battery, along with construction of the Gonzales substation, is currently scheduled to be completed by first quarter 2010 in time for summer peak usage. Cost of the battery and substation is estimated at approximately $23 million. A 60-mile, 69- kilovolt transmission line from Marfa to Presidio is targeted for completion by 2012 with an estimated cost of approximately $44 million.

    The NAS battery system uses sodium-sulfur battery technology. This technology proposed by ETT for Presidio will provide the following benefits:

    -- Due to its quick response, the battery will address voltage fluctuations and momentary outages. -- In the event of an outage on the radial transmission line providing power to Presidio, the battery can supply four megawatts of uninterrupted power for up to eight hours. -- The battery will allow Presidio's electrical load to receive uninterrupted power from Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) during emergency situations. -- The battery will allow for maintenance on the new transmission line being built to from Marfa to Presidio without loss of electric service.

    AEP pioneered the use of the NAS battery in the United States. Following testing at its Dolan Technology Center near Columbus, Ohio, AEP became the first U.S. company to deploy NAS batteries in 2002 when it installed and operated a demonstration unit in Gahanna, Ohio.     Raytheon Unveils Several Firsts at Empire Challenge 09Intelligence demonstration shared vital reconnaissance information among joint and coalition operations

    CHINA LAKE, Calif., Sept. 1, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company unveiled several firsts while playing a significant role in Empire Challenge 09.

    A recent joint military demonstration, Empire Challenge 09 highlighted how U.S. and coalition forces can better work together to collect, share and analyze intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) information.

    Raytheon's technology, including the U.S. Air Force's Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) Block 10.2 and the DCGS Integration Backbone (DIB), was prevalent in several key systems during the demonstration. Raytheon also unveiled a new multi-intelligence tool called MULTI-INT Exploitation Tool, or MIETool.

    Raytheon used its rapid High-Speed Guard cross-domain solution to share secure data between enclaves. The service enabled ISR information exchanges between U.S. and coalition partners at sites worldwide via the DIB and Raytheon's Multi-sensor Aerospace-ground Joint ISR Interoperability Coalition system.

    For the second year, Raytheon High-Speed Guard transmitted multiple, simultaneous high-definition and standard-definition video feeds while supporting thousands of cross-domain DIB queries and product retrievals. High-Speed Guard moved hundreds of imagery files and a half-million cursor on-target messages every day. The High-Speed Guard supported more than five times as much traffic as previous Empire Challenge events while using the same legacy hardware.

Raytheon leveraged the open standards DIB v1.3 by seamlessly integrating the key imagery exploitation, National Imagery Transmission Format (NITF) data and multi-intelligence visualization aspects of DCGS 10.2 provided by the scalable DCGS service.

    Raytheon and the Air Force achieved another significant first when fourth-generation fighter "TWENTYGLOW ELINT" data was successfully ingested and cataloged by the scalable DCGS system and displayed in near-real time in unison with other intelligence data using the DCGS Block 10.2 multi-intelligence visualization capability provided from Langley Air Force Base, Va.

    Raytheon also unveiled its new MIETool, which successfully produced an exploitation product depicted on Google Earth containing electronic intelligence information overlaid on a Global Hawk NITF image. This application provides analysts with a single integrated application for multisource exploitation and fusion with a detailed DIB query capability, an automated image and video retrieval mechanism and a user-controllable overlay system.

    The MIETool allows analysts to spend more time on the exploitation and fusion process and less time on the information infrastructure, allowing them to complete their tasks quicker and with greater accuracy. The MIETool also boasts retrieval and exploitation capabilities, video stream playback with frame capture, and image retrieval and creation of moving target indicators and tracks from motion imagery and full-motion video.

    Ford's Strong Lineup Drives Retail Sales Up 21 Percent

    Ford , Lincoln and Mercury dealers reported a 21 percent increase in retail sales in August as customer demand for Ford's fuel-efficient cars, crossovers and trucks enabled the company to post its second consecutive increase in monthly sales. Total sales - including fleet customer deliveries - were 176,323, up 17 percent versus last year.

    Ford now has gained retail market share in 10 of the last 11 months. Plus, internal and external studies continue to show a positive trend in favorable consumer opinion about Ford, and a growing number of consumers are shifting consideration to Ford vehicles.

    August Sales Highlights -- Ford Focus sales totaled 25,547, an August record and up 56 percent versus a year ago. The Focus is among the most fuel-efficient compact cars in America with an EPA highway rating of 35 mpg. -- Ford Fusion sales totaled 21,010, a sales record for any month and up 132 percent versus a year ago. Mercury Milan sales were 3,844, up 112 percent. The Fusion and Milan and their hybrid versions are the most fuel-efficient mid-size sedans in America. -- Ford Escape sales totaled 20,933, a sales record for August, and up 49 percent versus a year ago. Mercury Mariner sales were 3,921 (also a record for August), up 50 percent.     Early signs of economic recovery are suggested by this month's sales results for Ford's pickup trucks and the all-new Transit Connect van. Sales of the Ford F-Series - America's best-selling truck - were 45,590, up 13 percent. Sales of the Ford Ranger - the most-fuel-efficient pickup in America - were 7,746, up 57 percent. Sales for each truck were the highest in more than a year, and it was the first sales increase for F-Series since October 2006.

    The Transit Connect, a small, fuel-efficient purpose-built van, is the first ONE FORD global vehicle to be sold in the United States. August sales for the Transit Connect were 2,220 versus 417 in July, and sales were 70 percent higher than the company's goal for the month.

With limited availability as production continues to ramp up, Taurus retail sales nearly matched year-ago levels and more than double the company's goal for the month. Favorable third-party reviews are putting Taurus on the shopping list of even long-time foreign car owners, who cite the Taurus' design, technology and interior luxury and comfort as reasons for purchase.

    Also gaining momentum is Ford's new EcoBoost engine - with dealer orders for EcoBoost-equipped models exceeding company expectations. EcoBoost uses gasoline turbocharged direct-injection technology for up to 20 percent better fuel economy, 15 percent fewer CO2 emissions and superior driving performance versus larger displacement engines. It is now on sale in the Ford Taurus SHO and Flex and Lincoln MKS, and soon on the MKT crossover vehicle. In these vehicles, EcoBoost provides the fuel economy of a six-cylinder and the performance of a V-8.

    Monsanto Licenses Use of Cellectis' Innovative Genome Modification Technology

    ST. LOUIS and ROMAINVILLE, France, Sept. 1, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Monsanto Company today announced a non-exclusive research and commercial license agreement with France-based Cellectis S.A. (Alternext: ALCLS), a biotechnology company specialized in genome engineering, for broad use of its meganuclease technology in plants.

    Meganucleases are molecular scissors that can be directed to a single site in the genome of a plant cell, thereby allowing a wide range of precise genome modifications, including gene stacking, gene knock-out as well as modulation of gene function to develop new traits. Under the agreement, Monsanto will have access to Cellectis' intellectual property on meganucleases and its custom meganuclease production platform.

    Cellectis will receive an upfront payment of euro 3 million, and subject to the approval of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Cellectis' shareholders, Monsanto will make an equity investment of euro 1 million to allow Cellectis to scale the technology for agriculture. Cellectis will also be eligible to receive fees for the development of each meganuclease, success-based milestones and may receive royalties on certain traits commercialized by Monsanto. Further financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

    Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported August sales of 17,112 vehicles. Although August volume was slightly off by 7.5 percent versus August 2008, August sales were MBUSA's strongest so far this year and marked the fourth month of increasing sales momentum.

    The volume leaders for the month were the E-, C-, and M-Class with sales of 4,671, 4,253, and 2,577 respectively. The all-new 9th generation 2010 E-Class continues to exhibit strong sales performance, topping August 2008 by 74.2%.

    On a year-to-date basis, the company sold 118,428 new vehicles, a decrease of 25.3 percent over the comparable period last year.

    smart USA recorded 1,622 sales in August 2009, an increase of 14.3% versus July 2009, and its best month since March of this year and second consecutive month over month sales increase. He assumed additional responsibilities as Executive Vice President, Operations, in 2001 and served as Secretary until February 2005 and Treasurer until July 2007.
