ACS759 High Current / High Temperature Hall-Effect Based Linear Current Sensor IC Optimized for 3.3 V Operation Hall-Effect Sensor ICs Positioning Statement

The ACS759 is exactly the same device as the ACS758 programmed and tested 3.3 V. The device will be branded ACS759 and has the same product offerings 150 A, and 200 A bi-directional PFF (power leadframe and signal leadfame both formed). Future options can be offered if needed and volumes justify. Selling Advantages· Smaller footprint than current transformers· Single component in a factory trimmed micro-system· Lower board space and streamlined supply chain compared to high current shunt op-amp solutions· Ultra-low power loss: 100 uOhm internal conductor resistance· Voltage isolation without the need for transformers or opto-isolators· Programmed and tested for 3.3 V operation

Description

The Allegro® ACS759 family of current sensors provides economical and precise solutions for or DC current sensing 3.3 V supply applications. For 5 V applications use the ACS758 family of parts. Typical applications include motor control, load detection and management, power supply and DC-to-DC converter control, inverter control, and overcurrent fault detection. The device consists of a precision, low-offset linear Hall sensor circuit with a copper conduction path located near the die. Applied current flowing through this copper conduction path generates a magnetic field which is sensed by the integrated Hall IC and converted into a proportional voltage. Device accuracy is optimized through the close proximity of the magnetic signal to the Hall transducer. A precise, proportional voltage is provided by the low-offset, chopper-stabilized BiCMOS Hall IC, which is programmed for accuracy at the factory. High level immunity to current conductor dV/dt and stray electric fields, offered by Allegro proprietary integrated shield technology, guarantees low ripple at output and low offset drift in high-side, high voltage applications. The output of the device has a positive slope (>VCC / 2) when an increasing current flows through the primary copper conduction path (from terminal 4 to terminal 5), which is the path used for current sensing. The internal resistance of this conductive path is 100uOhms typical, providing low power loss. The thickness of the copper conductor allows for 200A continuous current sensing applications and survival to much higher transient currents. The terminals of the conductive path are electrically isolated from the sensor leads (pins 1 through 3). This allows the ACS759 family of sensors to be used in applications requiring electrical isolation without the use of opto-isolators or other costly isolation techniques. The device is fully calibrated prior to shipment from the factory. The ACS759 family is lead (Pb) free. All leads are plated with 100% matte tin, and there no Pb inside the package. The heavy gauge leadframe is made of oxygen-free copper.

Features and Benefits· Industry-leading noise performance through proprietary amplifier and filter design techniques· Integrated shield greatly reduces capacitive coupling from current conductor to die due to high dV/dt,

and prevents offset drift in high-side, high voltage applications

Optimized test and programming 3.3 V Small package size, with easy mounting capability Monolithic Hall IC for high reliability Ultra-low power loss: 100 uOhm internal conductor resistance Galvanic isolation allows for economical, high-side current sensing in high voltage systems 4 uS output rise time in response to step input current Output voltage proportional or DC currents Factory-trimmed for accuracy Extremely stable output offset voltage Nearly zero magnetic hysteresis

Product Roadmap· to ACS759 for 3.3 V operation 200 A sensing systems Competitive Comparison· Shunts, current transformers, and opto-isolators and larger and more expensive devices offered by LEM

Selling Challenges· Shunts, current transformers, and opto-isolators and larger and more expensive devices offered by LEM
