EEPROM Information:
The EEPROM on IDT's ATM NIC cards is a 2Kbit device organized as 256 x8 that is preprogrammed by IDT. A total of 52 bytes are used for configuration information on the card out of the 256 byte total. The first four bytes of the EEPROM are reserved to autoload PCI Subsystem information into the 77252's PCI configuration registers (i.e., PCI Subsystem ID, PCI Subsystem Vendor ID). The MAC address for the card is written into three locations: 0x10, 0x4A and 0x6C. For each MAC address a total of 16 bytes is allocated from the start location specified above. A description of the EEPROM memory map is provided below.

DESCRIPTION:
The IDT7M92x / 7M94x family provides reliable, high performance Asynchronous Transfer Mode connectivity for PCI Card Edge based systems. The IDT7M924 / 927 / 928 and IDT7M944 / 947 / 948 provides an optical fiber media interface; the IDT7M925 / 945 supports Unshielded Twisted Pair, Category 5 (UTP-5) cabling. All cards feature complete PCI-bus ATM NIC functionality, plugging directly into PCI bus expansion slots. The board is designed for use in any PCI based system and supports the 32 bit, 33 MHz, 5V PCI specification.
EEPROM Memory Map
0x00-0x03 - reserved for SAR autoload 0x04-0x0F - Unused 0x10-0x1F - ATM MAC address (1st location) 0x20-0x49 - Unused 0x4A-0x59 - ATM MAC address (2nd location) 0x5A-0x6B - Unused 0x6C-0x7B - ATM MAC address (3rd location) 0x7C-0xFF - Unused The MAC address is programmed into the EEPROM in sequential address locations from the start address as if the MAC address was being read from left to right. For example, if we had a MAC address of 12:34:56:78:9A:BC, the data would be loaded into the EEPROM in the following manner: EEPROM Address: 10 11 12 13 14 15 16-1F Data (MAC addr): 12 34 56 78 9A BC rsvd In the above example, the data is shown starting at location 0x10. The MAC address value will be loaded in the same manner to the two other address locations.

OVERVIEW:
The central component of the IDT ATM NIC is the IDT 77252 ABR NICStARTM Segmentation And Reassembly (SAR) controller. The IDT77252 ABR SAR connects directly to the PCI bus, a private SRAM/EPROM bus, and the Utopia PHY interface. The PHY device connects optical data link (ODL) device for the fiber optic connection (IDT7M924 / 27 / 28 / 44 / 47 / 48), or to a transciever for the UTP-5 connection (IDT7M925 / 45). The ODL incorporates its own fiber optic connectors; the UTP option includes a line interface / filter transformer and a standard RJ-45 jack.
