Semiconductor Software Product Brief

ITU Group 3 FAX Modem

DSP56300GRP3P/D (Motorola Order Number) Rev. 0, 09/99

Introduction
Motorola and Signals + Software have jointly developed DSP software that implements the ITU V.21, V.27ter, V.29, and V.17 modem standards for use in Group 3 facsimile.

Features and Performance
This software operates under the T.30 and T.4 protocols using one of the following: · · · V.27ter, which provides data rates of 2400 bps and 4800 bps V.29, which provides data rates of 7200 bps and 9600 bps V.17, which provides data rates up to 12,000 bps and 14,400 bps.

Interpolator
Included with the software package is an 8/9.6 kHz sample interpolator to enable modem operation over ISDN or other applications that require 8kHz sampling.

Interface Details
The FAX modem is implemented as a subroutine, which is called at a predetermined frame rate. Samples and data are passed to and from the FAX modem at frame rate. Control words are used to select the FAX modem type, manage the Input and Output buffers, and set other operating modes. Status word provide a range of information, including clear to send, carrier detect, and signal quality.

C Code Model

C Code Model
A fixed point C code model is available for V.21, V.27ter, V.29 and V.17 standards. A C code model for T.30 is also available which can be used with the Group 3 fax data pumps

DSP Requirements
The FAX modem is available as three main packages. Given below is the memory requirement for each package. Program memory and Y data memory requirements are a one off, and does not increase with the number of channel required.
