RS-120 Product Brief
The PrimaGate RS-120 is a special purpose n e t w o r k processor for remote bridging applications. It is designed to be integrated into a variety of broadband access devices. Ethernet Processing at up to 100 Mbps The RS-120 provides Ethernet processing at full wire-speeds of up to 100 Mbps full-duplex. Layer-2 Bridging with 10,000 MAC Addresses T h e PrimaGate provides wire-speed layer-2 br idging by automatically learning the MAC addresses of the LAN on which it is connected and forwarding only those packets destined for the remote side. It can forward at 300,000 pps a n d filter at 150,000 pps without dropping packets. The LAN table can support up to 10,000 MAC addresses.
Broadband Ethernet
MII LAN and HDLC WAN Interfaces The RS-120 has an industry standard MII interface which enables connection to a variety of physical layer interfaces such as IEEE 802.3, Ethernet V.2, HPNA, HomeRF, etc. On the WAN side a standard HDLC controller can operate at speeds of up to 100 Mbps making the RS-120 ideal for a variety of broadband access devices such as DSL, cable, wireless local loop, fiber and satellite modems. `Drop-in' Solution The PrimaGate is a `drop-in' solution, with no software development required. PrimaGate operates independently without the need for a host processor. The RS-120 works with industry standard SDRAM. It uses low power 0.18µ CMOS technology and is available in two package options: 240-pin PQFP or 208 miniBGA.

Block Diagram
The PrimaGate has two interfaces: an HDLC or MII interface for the Ser vice Network and an MII for the Subscriber Network. The HDLC controller operates at up to 100 Mbps while the MIIs operate at standard Ethernet speeds of up to 100 Mbps. The RS-120 works with industry standard SDRAM.
